CMLL FSE GdR - 07/22/07 (#47)
Recapped: 08/01/07

Intro: Lots of talk about Rey's upcoming anniversary show. Rey talks about teaming with giants and his show. Announcers are joined by Ultimo, who doesn't want the fans votes (who needs the fans!) but is sure he'd beat Rey to win his belt back.

Outside the Ring: Texano Jr.

Match 1: Hirooki Goto, Hajime Ohara, Shiego Okumura (c) vs Leono (c), Stuka Jr., Valiente
Arena Coliseo, 06/24/07

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:40
Approx Rating: Okay.
Other Match Notes: As usual, we get the inters during the open of the show. Goto and Ohara have their wacky belts and wacky Mima Shimoda is with the trio.

1: Mat wrestling with Leono and Okumura to start. I could do with this being clipped. Goto/Valiente is Goto being a base for Valiente's stuff, and he does a fine job of it. Valiente finishes that with a tope, and then we're back with the captains. Leono gives Okumura flapjack, drops an elbow, goes to the apron, and hits a springboard elbow drop. That's an odd combo. Ohara takes care to step around Leono's pinfall (instead of easily breaking it up), and Stuka gives him a fireman's carry drop, and a standing moonsault. Stuka stood on Ohara's chest to land the moonsault, which is a fine idea, but the moonsault itself didn't look so good. We get a quick replay of Valiente's dive.

2: Leono showcase goes like everyone. He's doing a Sting-like yell now. Ohara is feeling especially goofy. Beatdown starts on Valiente. Okumura missile dropkick for him. Stuka gets held for an Ohara jumping - knee? I guess, though it looked like it was supposed to be more than that. Then again, Leono gets pinned by a suplex (with the usual half tease of a brainbuster), so maybe it's simple finishing move day.

El Diseno de Sombra. SEEN IT. Really, perhaps they'd like to feature a mask that's been around more than two months.

3: Tecnico are making scattered comebacks as we start the fall, but the Japon crew finally gets it back under control. Team Japon, and Ohara in particular, are acting like people who aren't Japanese act when they act like Japanese martial artists. That's probably more confusing than it needs to be, they're just doing the stereotypical gimmick. Leono evades a corner whip to get the comeback. Lots of chops. Stuka does a top rope plancha armdrag onto Ohara, Leono gets in his second superkick of the match to set up a single rotation tornillo on Okumura. Valiente gets 2 on a springboard twisting plancha, then runs into a Rock Bottom. For once, the refs know the captain has not been pinned, and point it out to Goto. Stuka dropkicks Goto out, but he gets tripped up by Ohara. Leono misses a clothesline on Okumura, and helpful stands in place for Okumura to kick him. Layout reverse DDT, one two three - Leono kicked out at 3.00000000000001, why? Ohara got Stuka with a much better running jumping knee to the head for the complete win. It looked pretty effective.

Ramstein gives his mask to the winner, Ulises, who's there with his mom.

Vignette: Negro is waiting to meet someone at the ring. Oh, it's Magadan, who's late. This is going to turn into an ad again, I bet. Oh, no, Magadan is training with wrestlers. Calthestenics and rolling bumps. Magadan skips out on a flip bump, and everyone turns on him.

Match 2: Toscano, Ultimo Guerrero (c), Universo 2000 vs Dos Caras Jr. (c), Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero
Arena Coliseo, 06/24/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:58
Approx Rating: By the numbers.
Other Match Notes: Why do they make Marco do the promo? Marco's promo sounds exactly like I'd sound, so I feel very sad for him.

No entrances, but apparently the tecnicos got punked out. I can tell you this, because Dos Caras is laying in the aisle, having been stomped down by Universo on the way to the ring. Dos and Rey seem to be doing better.

1: Tarzan looks thin. Marco and Rey help Dos up, and he wants to kill Universo, but Ultimo and Toscano keep cutting him off. This kills a few minutes. Opening exchanges are Rey/Tarzan, Marco/Ultimo (Marco doing, move for move, the same bit he did in the last match I saw him), and Dos/Universo (ending tragically with Dos trying to run up the ropes for a plancha, but completely missing the ropes and looking horrible.) Universo doesn't help out the kid, staying far enough way that Dos' makeup plancha has no change of hitting. Back in the ring, Rey gets Tarzan with the time killing hold, Corelone leaps over him with a top rope plancha, but Ultimo rolls thru for a pin, and Tarzan escapes into an inside cradle for a pin of his own.

2: Beatdown. Universo and Dos never made it back in the ring, from the look of it. Tecnicos turn it around in about a minute off a missed double clothesline on Corelone. I hate that spot with Corelone - how can they miss a double clothesline on him? He's giant! He shouldn't be able to even duck under one. Maybe if he leaped over it, it'd work, or maybe he can just break thru with his strength, but they're treating it like a none size fits all spot. Anyway, Corelone gets the springboard plancha onto everyone like always, as everyone goes out to brawl. Rey gets a top rope armdrags on Tarzan, and Tarzan starts to roll out, then stops when he realizes no one's left to fight in the ring. Corelone and Ultimo come back in, and Rey shows off his mad MMA skillz.

El Arte del Catch: Senton a la Guayina - uh, a senton? Off the ropes one, at least.

This is the Magadan/Monito ad.

3: Rey gets the showcase first, with a build towards him and Ultimo. The biggest spot is Rey clearing Ultimo Monito off the apron hard with a dropkick. Universo runs form locking up with Dos, but Dos cleans the ring with the Guerreros, catches Ultimo on a plancha, and carries him around the ring. This allows Universo to get in and got after the mask, ripping it good. Dos turns it around just enough to knock Universo out, clearing the ring for the other four. Rey dropkicks both Guerrero out, and gets Ultimo with a slingshot tope con giro. Toscano walks into a Marco flying clothesline. Dos back in, and connecting on the top rope plancha on Universo. Dos moves out of the way of an Universo charge, and he crotches himself in the corner. Dos pulls him out, one two and Universo tosses Dos off onto the only ref left in the ring. EH. Dos kicks Universo presses him up, sets him back on his feet - that's a mistake - and Universo kicks him low. Ref turns around just in time to count the pin.

Replay. Dos really shouldn't just put Universo down on his feet, that seems tactically unwise. Universo cuts a promo, but it gets edited. Ultimo asks Rey if he's his date for the 15th anniversary match, and Toscano is wondering the same thing. Rudos do the Guerrero huddle dance with Magadan, and Rey leaps off the top rope onto the pile! That was pretty random. Magadan had no idea what he got himself into.
