CMLL FSE GDR - 04/22/07 (#37)
Recapped: 04/25/07

Intros: Why is FSE so quiet? All the talk is mask/mask, including promos by Stuka and Jeque. Jesus and Juan Carlos bring up Stuka's past mask wins over Kempo Kid (Texano) and Flecha and ask Magadan how Jeque can stop this run. Magadan bluffs an answer.

Match 1: Hiroka (c), Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei vs Dark Angel (c), Luna Magica, Sahori
Arena Mexico, 04/13/07

  1. tecnicas
  2. rudas
  3. rudas

Winner: Rudas (2-1)
Match Time: 10:58
Approx Rating: Ehhhh.
Other Match Notes: Didn't we have this match last time the women were on? Wasn't it not so good? (Kinda - it's a repeat lineup of the last women's match we've gotten from Arena Mexico over on CAN52 - and it wasn't SO bad.)

1: Normal clip to start. Tecnica exhibition - Dark Angel looks best, Sahori better than Luna Magica, though Hiroka might different after Sahori dropkicked her in the face. Rudas get in nothing before being beat.

2: It's sorta odd to have ring card girls doing a women's match. Sujei has to do 99% of the work on Luna Magica's armdrags, if that was even what she were trying there. She's not so good, to the point where you're on Hiroka's side when she cranks her with a kick. Unfortunately, Hiroka faceslam herself (or I guess Luna does that to escape a powerbomb.) Crowd is not into the Luan Magica run of offense, and it turns into a beatdown from there. I think the crowd isn't into three fall women's matches right now - and why would they want this one to be three falls? Dark Angel won the first one! These rules are only making it tougher for their heroes. Jesus is putting over the Mexican Women's Cibernetico match here, which would work better if half the people in this match (and the only over people) were in the match. Rudas are very into lifting a tecnica up, and dropping them onto someone's knees or some such. They try the reverse - pressing Hiroka up and dropping her onto Luna Magica, and despite Luna being a stationary target, pretty well miss. Crowd's starting to turn on the match here. Fortunately, they're going to the fall finish anyway. Mima's German suplex is a release version, and not as wildly stiff as they've been previously. Sujei puts Dark Angel in a standing/kneeling figure for for good measure.

3: Sujei must feel the same way I do, because she demands the ring card from the card girl, mock shows it to the crowd, and wipes her backside with it. After the interlude, the beatdown continues. I like how Hiroka appears to be getting in stiff shots on Luna in revenge for Sahori kicking her in the face - it's as if even the rudas don't care to tell them apart. (It's helped this week by Sahori wearing her "Sahory" belt.)  They go for the press splash onto Dark Angel, she gets her knees up, and there starts the comeback. Sahori often seems like she's figuring out what to do a moment behind everyone else. It's a mental thing, I guess. Anyway, tecnicas run wild, all of them get a dive, and then Dark Angel tries a 'rana on Sujei and Sujei blocks it. Sujei holds her there for a Mima dropkick, and the powerbombs her down, followed by Mima doing the same thing to Luna. Sujei goes the extra bit and gets a sideways campana on Dark Angel, but whatever, it's over.

Survey: Who's going to win? Stuka. Stuka. Jeque. Jeque. Stuka.

Match 2: Jeque vs Stuka Jr. in a mask match
Arena Coliseo, 04/15/07

  1. Jeque valaguesa (2:56)
  2. Stuka abdominal stretch (:40)
  3. Stuka pin (2:52)

Winner: Stuka (2-1)
Match Time: 6:28
Approx Rating: Much more interesting for things gone wrong than the match itself, which was just okay.
Other Match Notes: Stuka has Tigre Metalico with him. Tigre's just tying his mask back on as he steps thru the curtain. Stuka doesn't say anything new in his promo. Jeque is wearing a Jeque shirt. Arkangel is wearing a DIFFERENT Jeque shirt. Like, they had two different ideas for Jeque shirts, that's crazy. The audio is way out of sync with the video in Jeque's video - makes it seem like a translator is doing a voice over his lines or something (but Magadan's words are equally running seconds ahead of his mouth.) Anyway, the idea here is Jeque has brought his family to the match, so he can present Stuka's mask to them when he wins. Uh huh. Jeque's wearing purple, Stuka's wearing his normal aquamarine.

1: Match already in progress, CHECK. Jeque chest slap Stuka out of the ring. Out to follow him, and get in another chop. Jeque throws Stuka up the ramp by his mask. Back in, and Jeque sets Stuka up on the top rope. Jeque climbs the ropes to rip at Stuka's mask and punch his head in the newly created hole. Jeque pulls Stuka down in the tree of woe, but Stuka falls free anyway. Jeque dropkicks him anyway. Whip, reversed, Stuka gets in the tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. He's fire dup, and not following up. Jeque charges, tilt-a-whirl, Jeque escapes on his feet, tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for Stuka. Now Jeque is the one walking around fired up, but at least has a move in mind - dropkick, off the ropes, diving tope con giro. Jeque was nearly headed straight down, but he still took out Stuka good. Corner men do some good towel waving, and Arkangel almost helps Jeque inside, which Tigre complains about. Tigre actually hits his own man with the towel, but perhaps that spurs Stuka to make it back in to make the count. Jeque tries a clothesline, Stuka catches it, corner whip, charge in, Jeque sees him on top, chest slap, pulling him off, valaguesa one two three. Jeque is thrilled. Replays while both guys take a break. There's a LOT of time left in the show, but we're headed to a break so there goes some of it.

2: Jeque tries rushing Stuka, but Stuka cleverly - just moves out the way, actually. Stuka takes Jeque down and gets to stomping. Off the ropes, gymnastics run for no reason, kip up and out escape from a corner charge, and Jeque just flattens him with a dropkick. Don't be dumb, Stuka. Right hand by Jeque. Whip, kick - no, uh, I guess Stuka got him in an abdominal stretch, but that mostly just looked odd. Into a cradle, one two three? That was lame. Jeque is complaining - his far shoulder might have been up there, but we didn't really get an angle of it. Replays do give us the reverse angle, and the shoulder is down as much as it ever is.

We've got 15 minutes left of the show at this point. So there was no need for that to be a 40 second fall, but there should be plenty of time for the third fall.

3: We get a shot of Jeque's wife and son (I'm assuming) standing in the crowd at the start of this fall. Better than seeing the sunset flip roll thru dropkick bit again. Other people are wearing the Jeque shirts, but I assume they're all family. Jeque dropkicks Stuka out, and goes up - plancha! Jeque would've hit the metal armrest of a seat if the fan in it hadn't blocked Jeque with his knee. Not that falling into a knee is much better. Replay of the dive. As we come back, Jeque's making it in - and Arkangel is sneaking in a stomp on Stuka! He's an evil man. Stuka takes his time coming in, not worried about the count quiet yet. Jeque charges Stuka, 'rana, one  - Stuka rolls thru one two NO. Crowd starts to chant for Stuka. Takedown on Jeque, Stuka sets up for a nudo, Jeque small packages him, one two NO. Crowd behind Stuka, but Jeque's going for his mask again. Jeque switches to biting the forehead. Arkangel's getting in close and rooting him on (and maybe grabbing Stuka's leg), and referee Tiger Hispano warns Arkangel. Jeque slams Stuka and slowly goes up. He's very indecisive, and Arkangel doesn't seem to like this idea. Half turn plancha doesn't look good, feels worse when it misses. Stuka rushes over to cover, one two Jeque kickout three?

(It's 12 till the top of the hour.)

Tigre Hispano's hands hits for a third time, that's for sure. I think, watching this finish for the 25th time, the next thing he does is wave off the count. It's not very noticeable, and it's not as if he holds up fingers to declare it was only a two count. On the broadcast, they brought up the end of fall graphic right as the three count was made (or not). Everyone not in the ring assumes that was just an odd way to end it - I'm not sure the kickout was noticeable as much live to everyone as it was on TV (where it's unmistakable) - and reacts like Stuka won and the match is over. Tiger Metalico is like those people, and rushes the ring to congratulate Stuka. Stuka (still on the mat selling) and Tigre Hispano both give him a confused look, wondering why he's in here. Camera goes to a shot of Jeque's family again, and it comes back to the ring to show the referee explaining to Metalico that he only pounded the mat twice - that's clearly wrong, but the bigger problem is he's only explaining this to Metalico, and they've completely lost the crowd.

The referee kicks Metalico out of the ring (who's protesting it was a three count) because he thinks the match is still going. Just a moment after, Stuka pops back to life and goes to the corner to celebrate his win, so he's given up on the match at this point. Jeque is up after him, and he chest slaps and punches Stuka in the corner. Tiger Hispano seems to change his mind here, telling Jeque that the match is over. Jeque opts to ignore him and stomp the heck out of Stuka, brushing off Hispano when he tries to grab him. Jeque goes for headbutts as Jeque's family start cheering for him again, and Jeque talks to Stuka. Stuka set up on the top, and pulled off for a valaguesa, which connects. The referee is very visibly talking to Jeque as Jeque grabs at Stuka's mask - it seem to be along the lines of "I don't what to do - the match is over". Jeque drags Stuka around by his mask for a moment, celebrates and wanders around the ring while referee Tigre Hispano follows him around like a lost puppy. Jeque and the referee turn to talk, we get a continentally timed cut to Stuka laying on the mat, holding his head, and by the time we get back to the hard camera, Tigre Hispano has decided to raise Stuka's arm to declare him winner. (I'm sure we missed Jeque telling him to do it.)

Jeque can't believe. Arkangel can't believe it. Jeque's wife collects her son and heads to the ring - I presume they made a half start at this, and then sat back down when things got weird. A Commission member who's name I'm blanking on is in the ring and trying to direct traffic. Jeque shoves Tigre Hispano down, which he doesn't seem totally prepared for, and Tiger Hispanic gets up and raises Stuka's arm again. Stuka and Arkangel decide they're walking out on this sham. Arkangel totally give Jeque a "We can fight this! We can protest this to the highest courts in the land! You don't have to give up your mask tonight!", but they get to the entranceway and Jeque dramatically stops, looks around, and declares that he must.

Must protest the decision a little more to the commissioner, actually. Meanwhile, Stuka is riding on Metalico's' shoulders. Jeque and Arkangel turn to leave again, but then decide to walk around the ring to the camera, where Jeque can demonstrate how he had his shoulder up. Jeque's son is sad. Jeque protests the decision some more, but the commissioner seems to have decided the referee's word is final, even if it's obviously wrong. Jeque comes back in the ring, and takes his protest to Stuka, who seems unmoved. Jeque talks over something with the commissioner. I gotta believe a discussion of "should we just do a restarted fall here?" had to take place somewhere along the line. They still have 6+ minutes of TV time, but with unmasking and such, that's not that much. Jeque gets the microphone and explains even though he knows he got screwed, he's a professional and he'll live up to his promise of unmaking.

Jeque may be waving people into the ring here, but ends up coming out to have his wife and son untie his mask. They get mobbed - between those two, Arkangel, and a ton of camera men trying to get in position for the shot, it's a ton of people in a small spot. Jeque's family doesn't want to let him go, but the commissioner says they have to go back in the ring. If they were doing the unmaking in the ring, no one told the (really young looking) ring announcer, who left the ring and now is coming back in. Jeque pulls off his mask while looking at his family, and then goes back to protesting the count. Stuka gets the mask as Jeque's son starts crying. Jeque's name is given as Martin Moreno Garcia, of DF, a wrestler for 23 years.

Jeque gets interviews on the way out, who's still complaining about the pin. He wants a rematch.

Interview: Stuka says he won one more mask for the fans, and is ready to take on Jeque in a hair/mask match anytime.

That's it. Total match time: 17:26
