CMLL GDR - 03/31/07 (#71)

Opening is great, because Magadan goes all out go give us the hard sell for the ruda women...and can't think of anything much to say. Marcela and Rosa Negra do promos which appear here; Marcela looks like she has two black eyes or something - there's these black bruises under her eyes which are very disconcerting. (She'd end up wearing sunglasses out to her match, so I guess they disconcernting to her as well.) Rosa Negra is a not a good ruda promo, in case you were wondering.

en casa de: Black Warrior. There's a photo here of Black Warrior as a normal unmasked person at a lucha show, and it's just strange. Warrior's kids and wife are shown. The kids do the Black Warrior dance, which is great/disturbing.

Match 1: Medusa, Mima Shimoda, Rosa Negra (c) vs Luna Magica, Marcela (c), Princesa Blanca
Arena Coliseo, 03/25/07

  1. tecnicas
  2. rudas
  3. tecnicas

Winner: Tecnicas (2-1)
Match Time: 10:08
Approx Rating: About as expected.
Other Match Notes: My theory is they're showing all these matches with the midcard women so we can all figure who's the worst. Oh, they showed those earlier promos so we could have promos by Princesa Blanca and Mima Shimoda too - Mima's seems anxious when doing hers (in Spanish, so that make sense), and neither her nor Rosa really seems much evil. Entrances are all very rapid or cut down. You kinda need to do entrances with this crew, because you'd have no idea who most of them were if you weren't following this closely. I don't know if Medusa's been on TV since losing her mask - the lineup photo they use still has her in a mask - but she's doing a face paint thing now.

This is a three fall match. I believe they said one fall in the opener, but this is a tryout for the three fall format with women. Maybe that's why it's airing? Or maybe it's a three fall match because it was supposed to air - the one fall ones always get broken up oddly

1: Match ups are as indicated by the promos. Rosa/Marcela is fine. Medusa/Luna looks way too rehearsed, but at least they don't screw anything up. They get extended time, with Luna sending Medusa out after a spinning headscissors, and following her with a diving headscissors from the apron - that almost goes bad, but it's good enough (on a sliding scale.) Blanca gets in a little on Mima before it breaks down to a four way with the non captains. Tecnicas send the rudas out and jump on them with sillas. Back in the ring, Marcela gives Rosa Negra a face first electric chair suplex, and a wristlock cavernaria.

2: Captains start again, which is good. Rosa Negra bumps good and has decent offense. Marcela ends up dropkicking her out and standing on the ropes to taunt her, and Mima gets in a cheap shot kick to start the beatdown. Mima gives Blanca a German Suplex - well, a German suplex with absolutely no lift. Luna takes the triple dropkick to the head. Marcela takes a corner face first powerbomb, and then is hung in the Tree of Woe for a double dropkick. She tries to roll out, but Mima pulls her back and does another low German suplex for the pinfall. I think the deal is Mima is either not telling the women what she's about to do, or they're not getting the message. Marcela was completely off guard for that, with her arms flying away from her body and her elbows striking the mat first. The other rudas are just as unaware as Marcela, as they're doing their own thing. Rosa Negra ends up giving Blanca a fireman's carry face first powerbomb, and even more after the fact, Medusa takes Luna Magica thru a five part setup into a bow and arrow. Mima beats up a bit more on Princesa Blanca in between falls.

3: Beatdown continues on Marcela. She takes a double clothesline oddly, stumbling backwards and falling out of the ring instead of takin a bump. Luna is in quickly and thrown out after a hair toss. They elect to work on Blanca instead, but have trouble getting a double hiptoss to work. Triple face slam works better. Rudas go for another triple dropkick to the head, but the tecnicas pull them out to start the comeback. Blanca's not much good here, but her double jump plancha onto Mima is fine. Marcela tries to corner whip Medusa into a missile dropkick by Luna, but Medusa reverses it and Luna dropkicks Mima anyway. Medusa and Rosa try the same spot, and it goes just as bad. Tecnicas wrap it up, and that's the match.

Marcela wants a mask/hair match with Rosa Negra. Uh, okay. And then she walks off into the crowd.

Match 2: Ephesto, Mephisto (c), Misterioso II vs Alex Koslov, Rey Bucanero (c), Volador Jr.
Arena Coliseo, 03/23/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:00
Approx Rating: Quite good - more matches should be like this.
Other Match Notes: Misterioso's playing the part of Averno because Averno's gotta deal with Mistico. Misterioso is even wearing matching gear. No entrances, though we get the pre-match introductions. Rey will be in his 50s one day, and they'll still be using the same photo of him wearing the blue Ultimate Warrior face paint.

1: Misterioso and Koslov start. Koslov has figured out Santo's head stand headscissors. Misterioso has a wacky bodyscissors cradle here too. They have a nice sequence here. Ephesto and Rey next. Rey's looking more like a refuge from a Final Fantasy game than ever. They have a chop exchange, which Rey epically sells. Rey misses on an Enziguri, but back spins to hit on the second pass. He goes for the ropes, Mephisto tries to cheap shot him, but he stops short, attacks both rudos on the apron, misses a running clothesline on Ephesto, slides out, and Ephesto surprises us all by following with a tope. The camera misses it. Koslov charges in as the other rudos get in the ring. Alex misses a clothesline on Misterioso, and runs into a Mephisto tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Volador springboards in at Misterioso, Misterioso blocks the 'rana and Volador hangs off of him, fighting to stay on him. Mephisto does a sliding dropkick thru Misterioso's legs, popping Volador back up in the air, and Misterioso powerbombs him down. Mephisto grabs Volador, Misterioso grabs Alex, and they hold both guys up for their finishing moves, waiting and executing at almost the same time. Mephisto gets the pin, which Misterioso holds onto the Gory Stretch, with Ephesto coming in, grabbing Alex's arms, and putting on a wristlock cavernaria. That's cool.

2: Beatdown. Volador gets corner charges, and the Kiss of Death. Which needs a better name. Ephesto takes the rebound double hiptoss slam on to Rey. Misterioso's working like he's a normal part of this crew, which is neat to see. Too bad the Atomico de Terror isn't alliterative. Alex gets the triple pump powerbomb, and that'd be it for him if Volador didn't rush back in to break it up. Volador turns a whip into a double handspring back elbow, knocking down both Mephisto and Ephesto, and that starts the comeback. Alex knocks Misterioso out of the ring with a top rope plancha, and then helped drop toe hold the other two onto the ropes to set up for a running assisted high sit by Rey. Volador springboard moonsault to the floor! That came out of nowhere, and he got quite a bit of height on that. Alex hooks a stretch muffler on Mephisto, and that's the fall. Rey does something to Ephesto that we don't see initially (and they don't show well on replay.)

3: After some rudo discussion, Ephesto starts fro their side against Volador. Mephisto almost immediately get in a cheap shot form outside. Ephesto adds a clothesline. Volador ducks a running chest kick, superkicks Mephisto to the apron, uses Ephesto to run up the ropes, and leaps off with a 'rana headscissors for Mephisto. Fireman's carry escape into a spinning headscissors on Ephesto. Misterioso comes in, and he take a super spinning headscissors, that's that looked better. Volador quickly adds a no hand tope con giro, which looks pretty good. Rey's turn, and he starts against Mephisto - for a second, till Mephisto knocks him down a chop, and all the rudos get in to stomp him. Rudos are doing the Guerrero huddle dance, but I guess doing it around Rey is a way of taunting him. There's one guy chanting for Misterioso. Rey's set up in the corner, but he kicks Misterioso away and jump off with a headscissors on Mephisto. Mephisto charges and gets thrown into the corner, and Misterioso gets a chokeslam into a backbreaker. Ephesto gets a powerbomb and a dropkick to send him out. Rey teases bring in Alex while the rudos regroup. Rudos discuss. Alex and Ephesto start. Well, now Alex is going to point at the crowd to get them chanting again. Ephesto takings control with a jumping shoulderblock. Off the ropes, given a stop sign by Alex, who blows the kiss. Off the ropes, under, rolling over, under a clothesline, and landing the superkick. Mephisto in, Mephisto armdragged, armdrags, and Alex ads a springboard headscissors. Misterioso's next, but he rethinks it. He's got a plan - to get the crowd chanting for him. Alex off the ropes, cartwheel and back flip for no reason, and Misterioso gets a stop sign. Misterioso turns around to say "what's the deal with this guy", and turns back around to find the kiss is actually a chop. Another kiss chop in the corner. Corner whip, Mephisto says that's it, and charges into a headscissors. Misterioso throws him off to the corner, but Alex kicks back from there and adds a springboard dropkick. Magadan goes crazy. Time for the hat. Dance - and another superkick for Misterioso as he got onto the apron. Misterioso goes to the floor, so Alex follows with a springboard plancha. Rey back in, but Ephesto kicks him down. Ephesto charges, and take a backdrop to the apron. Ephesto fights back from there, but Alex yank him off the apron and to the floor. Rey takes a look and talks to Alex as he gets to the apron. Mephisto looks, charges at both of them, Rey moves, but Alex takes a dropkick. Rey charges, and Mephisto monkey flips him out - on to his partners! Volador in, but he misses a dropkick on Mephisto. Mephisto chops Volador. Corner whip, reversed, Mephisto flips to the apron, Volador flips to the apron on the opposite side. Forearm battle is won by Mephisto, who heads up. Volador springboard up to join him, tope rope 'rana! One two THREE. Magadan: "Frankenstein! Frankenstein! FRANKENSTEIN!" Okay then. That was very fun.

And that's it.
