CMLL GDR - 03/17/06 (#69)
Recap:
03/21/06

Ultimo Guerrero's house, once again. The best part of this is Ultimo trying to get his kid and his wife to say nice things just by making gestures.

Match 1: el Hijo de Pierroth, Pierroth (c), Shigeo Okumura vs La Mascara (c), Mictlan, Tigre Metalico
Arena Coliseo, 03/11/07

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 7:46
Approx Rating: Eh.
Other Match Notes: No entrances, but introductions. It'd be nice to see Metalico in a match I don't immediately dismiss, but what can you do. Hijo de Pierroth and Mictlan cut promos on each other - now that's a feud I'd pay $0.00 to see.

1: Seems like the very start of the match is cut out. We get about 10 seconds into Metalico and Hijo on the mat, and there's the beatdown. Pierroth is wearing his Rich Gannon t-shirt, which you probably can pick up for five dollars at this point. We get a super quick comeback, with La Mascara ducking a double clothesline, and - I'm not sure if that was a clothesline or a punch, but Pierroth decided to sell it as a punch and not go down. Meanwhile, Mictlan and Metalico hit missile dropkicks on the others. Metalico's roll up started as a Majistral, but instead of hoping over Hijo de Pierroth to get the cradle, Tigre hooked the arm with his legs, slid under him, and grabbed the free arm to roll him over. This confused me greatly, so much that I ignored Mictlan's dropkicking be of a one foot variety. Why is Mictlan using Cena's finisher? It isn't even a good move! Mascara got Pierroth to take a snap mare, which is incredible in itself.

2: Okumura and Mascara start, and that's just Okumura taking one backbreaker and flopping around like his break is broken. Pierroth and Mictlan next. Pierroth takes the most gentle bump off a shoulderblock. He gets more into the armdrags, but he sort has to. Pierroth looks like Pierroth always does. He takes 4 bumps! Hijo and Tigre - Hijo seems a moment behind Tigre at all times. Mictlan and Okumura, with Mictlan getting in a powerslam and an armdrags to send him out. Pierroth alone decides to start the beatdown, and that works. Hey, La Nazi is here this week. Good to know.  She crotches Mascara around the post, and holds him there while his partners get beat and Pierroth - well, Pierroth just stands around and directs. Why is Pierroth still wrestling? I guess he's got nothing better to do. PIERROTH BACK SUPLEX, He's a machine. That's the end of Mictlan. Pierroth tries to powerbomb Mascara - it takes a couple tries, and doesn't look so good. Sentons are added, and that's the fall. Mictlan gets whipped with the belt. Did they forget to pin him, or did they just want to beat Mascara?

3: Beatdown goes on for about five seconds before La Nazi takes her accidental chop, and the comeback is on. The comeback involves Pierroth standing with one arm on the ropes, while Mascara goes after La Nazi instead. Revenge belt shots - Pierroth tells them to stop hitting him in the face, so they set up the usual back stuff. They don't do the best job of it. Hijo de Pierroth gets his turn, and he's all about being slapped in the butt for some reason. Well, I can think of reasons, but I don't want to. Okumura gets a shot too, and Tiger Metalico cranks one on him. Tecnicos bring La Nazi in, but the rudos put a stop to that, and just like that, it's over - double Pierroth slams, and submissions. Surprised to see Hijo de Pierroth beat La Mascara. It takes Pierroth forever to get the Boston Crab locked in somewhat good (he switches to a half crab to make it work), and then he refuse to let it go. Like, he leaves it for thirty seconds, even getting his arm raised while still having it on. Far past the point where the refs would DQ for such a thing (but of course they couldn't actually.)  Mictlan sold it big, so maybe it was on purpose. Pierroth makes the Experience > Youth speech after the match. Promo goes on and on and I don't know why it's happening.

Match 2: Averno, Mephisto, Black Warrior (c) vs Alex Koslov, Mistico (c), Rey Bucanero
Arena Mexico, 03/02/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 16:25
Approx Rating: Good in parts, bad in parts, more notable for the reaction.
Other Match Notes: No entrances, but we do get in the in-ring introductions. This is awful random. Not complaining. Can someone get an updated picture of Rey Bucanero? Something from this century? Thanks.

1: Here's where I would write down who did what to whom, but that wasn't the story here. After Alex and Averno opened, Mistico and Mephisto had their turn, and the crowd was TICKED at Mistico just for being there. I thought maybe they were angry at Mephisto for something, but Mistico did the usual earcup for reaction spot, and what he heard was straight boos. It's seems very surely a WWE thing - the director cut a "Don't Go To WWE" sign in the crowd, but the person dropped it back down by the time the camera got there. There were Mistico fans in the crowd, but this started at 80% unrelenting boos, and I've never heard that for him before. Crowd was unwilling to get back on his side, booing after every move, and you could tell it was getting to him. Mephisto got a cheer when dropkicked Mistico on a handspring, and the rudos started the beatdown from there. Rudos looked pretty good as a team, and Black Warrior obliterated Mistico with a tope. Rey and Alex managed to boink Averno and Mephisto into each other, but a boosted up a dropkick went wrong, and it was end game from there.

Mephisto grabbed Monito on his shoulder, talked him around, and dumped him to Rey, so they both would tumble to the floor. Meanwhile, Warrior got in a jumping elbow smash on Mistico, from the apron to the floor.

2: Beatdown goes on for about 10 seconds, and then we get Rey ducking a clothesline, and Mistico hitting the springboard headscissors. Rey and Alex set up Averno & Mephisto on the ropes for a Rey double sit. Crowd still hates Mistico with a passion, but he gets some of the back with an Asai Moonsault onto Warrior. Koslov planchas the other two, and Rey and Alex pick up submissions. I haven't seen Rey's finish before - it's like a Backcracker to the side, if that makes any sense. It doesn't.

Between falls is either really short or clipped. I'm thinking clipped.

3: Tecnicos are still holding Warrior in place for Monito to get revenge. Warrior goes after Monito, and Mistico pulls him in an inside cradle for a Monito legdrop. Warrior's had enough of this. Rey/Mephisto, so they're not changing and going with the idea of Mistico/Warrior to end this match. That'll be interesting. Chop battle. Mephisto goes for a bodyscissors armdrag (!), but it completely comes apart. Was Rey supposed to reverse that into something? Mephisto falls free to the mat, and grabs his arm as if Rey did something secretively devastating. Crowd boos. Not a good night. Averno comes in, and they just start throwing crazy punches, perhaps getting some stress out. They end up rolling on the mat and fighting, which is atypical. Back to their feet, Averno gets in a kick but not a dropkick, , Rey charges again, gets backdropped to the apron, and fights to come back with a slingshot double knee chinbreaker. Crowd boos. Oh well. At least his hair is looking good for once. Alex in next, with Mephisto. They are cheering for Alex - it's funny, but he's the most over tecnico in this match. Also funny is Warrior doing the Russian hat dance on the apron. Mephisto off the ropes, over, stops - because Alex gives him the stop sign so he can blow a kiss to the crowd. The girls scream. Mephisto shoulderblock, off the ropes, another stop sign, but Mephisto is knocking down down with a chop this time. Averno is still pulling himself together from his sequence with Rey - he looks unwell. Alex tosses Mephisto around with armdrags and connect son a leg lariat. Averno's turn, and he bullies Alex into a corner, corner whip, charge into a back elbow, Alex flips out of the corner for no reason (o h no, it's catching.) Alex's kick is caught, he's flipped but lands on his feet, Averno clothesline misses, Koslov connects on a thrust kick and an enziguri. Give that man a hat! He's now asking the fans if they want to see the dance and teasing it - Dance stomps for Averno. Off the ropes, clothesline misses, spinning headscissors works for Alex (thought the hat goes off. ) Averno to the outside, and backing off Alex teases dive. Mistico springboards into the ring. Crowd is more 50/50. Mephisto in against him, but stalling. Off the ropes evasions, and once Mistico starts getting in moves, even though they're great looking headscissors, the crowd boos stronger. Mephisto sent out, and Warrior runs Mistico over with a boot. Warrior has a hardy laugh about it and does his dance. Mistico charges him, but take a drop toe hold onto the ropes - Warrior 619! PULLING THE ROPE! DOING THE HAT DANCE! GIVING THE MIDDLE FINGER! There are moments where Black Warrior is the greatest man ever. Mistico back up, ducking a clothesline and landing a superkick. He wants for Warrior to get up for the corner walkup flying spinning armdrag. Averno in, and getting the crowd to cheer or him. Camera finds people who are cheering for Mistico. It's women, mostly. Mistico with a headscissors from at torture rack, Averno goes out, and Mistico adds the slingshot headscissors. Mistico back to his corner, and it takes a moment for the tecnicos to send someone in. Alex in, and both Averno and Mephisto beat him. Alex escapes Averno & Mephisto's trademark rebound hiptoss by landing on his feet, and Mistico springboard dropkicks them both. Boos. Warrior in, missing a dropkick and gets hiptossed to the floor by Rey. Who's going to dive? Everyone - Rey with a slingshot tope con giro, Mistico and Alex with corner planchas! That looked great. We get replays. We better get a finish, there's not much time left in the hour. Warrior and Mistico stay outside as the other four find their way back in the ring. Rudos charge the tecnicos, and Alex and Rey toss them up into each other. Tecnicos get stalling submissions as Warrior and Mistico come in the ring from opposite sides. Mistico gets waved by, La Mistica - NOW there are cheers - and that's it.

It's like 80% for the tecnicos at the win, but the boos resurface after the initial reaction dies down. The rowdy tecnico section tries to will a Mistico chant, but it's just not happening.
