CMLL GDR - 03/10/07 (#68)
Recapped: 03/10/07

Promos: Universo and Marco hype up the main event. Marco cuts his promo in like a high school halfway thru their first year of Spanish - this is also exactly how I'd sound, but the effort to use the right words robs any emotion behind them. I swear he looks off screen for help at one point. He switches to English at the end - "I'm going to break you. You, down, Marco Corelone, up." He's totally reading off a card at the end, because the pronunciations don't sound right. Ah, it's an effort.

En Casa De Ultimo Guerrero: Instead of the unmasked segment (gone? off for a week? who knows), our reoccurring personality feature this week is a visit to Ultimo Guerrero's house. Which ends up being more a visit to Ultimo Guerrero's trophy room. As it turns out, Ultimo Guerrero has not burned all his Rey Bucanero photos. We hear from his wife and daughter (who are only shown from the back of the head.) You get far more trophies for being a wrestling in Mexico than you do in the US. Going the other way - in a US wrestler's place like this, you'd see title belts. Not here.

Match 1: Amapola, Hiroka (c), Mima Shimoda vs Dark Angel, India Sioux, Lady Apache (c)
Arena Mexico, 02/23/07

Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 7:13
Approx Rating:
Good.
Other Match Notes: India has new, crazier, music. They totally need to work those graphic sidebars into the entrances somehow. Lady Apache has both her belts. I think we need Marcela instead of India to make this The Best Possible Match and you can argue about Hiroka too. It's a good lineup, as these things go. Amapola's music got vocals? Or did I just forget that opening? Rodolfo Ruiz and Baby Richard are your refs. Are they going to break before the fall gets started? No - so this'll be annoying when they wait two minutes to do it anyway. Primera Caida - did they forget to do a One Fall graphic?

Hey, they painted the ringpost. (Green, white and red, of course.) Apache and Hiroka start on the mat, Hiroka getting the better of it till she gets hit with a big boot. Of course Apache comes right back, including the bottom rope springboard headscissors and a bodyscissors bulldog. Tag to India, who dropkicks Hiroka square in the head. Stomp. Chest slap. India yells a lot. Whip, reverses, Hiroka charges in and boots India, though she all sorts of timing issue with that. Corner whip, India goes to the middle rope and comes back with an overhead headscissors. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Amapola in and back elbowing India down, as Hiroka rolls out and to her corner. Corner whip, India with a double jump headscissors. India headscissors (weird entry on that) and a big spinning DDT. Tag to Dark Angel - the crowd is okay with the match, but you can hear them perk up when she comes in. Plancha in Amapola, sunset flip, Amapola rolls thru, dropkick misses, Dark Angel waiting for her - springboard to Amapola's shoulders leads to a reversal leads to a reversal leads to an armdrags. Out goes Amapola, in comes Mima. Mima misses on a high kick, Dark Angel misses on a clothesline, Mima misses on a clothesline, Dark Angel whips her, dropkick, but Mima's got the ropes. Mima keeps her down with an ax stomp - she kicked her leg up before dropping it on Angel's head. YELL. Corner whip, Mima in with a back elbow, and there's that break. BOOOOOO. (3:46)

Mima is still working over Amapola in the corner. Whip out, quick reverse and Dark Angel drops her with an overhead belly to belly suplex. Splash cover one two NO. Springboard dropkick, and Mima wants to roll out (only Ruiz is the way - he moves.) Tag to Lady Apache, but the camera fixes on Dark Angel and we don't see the rudas rushing the tecnicos until Hiroka cleans Dark Angel off the apron. And then we get a ZOOM on Dark Angel's midsection, that was n odd shot. Lady Apache is whipped - she's walking all the way to the ropes and back for some reason - Amapola tries to chokelift her up, I think, I really have no idea because it doesn't work and they're standing looking at each other for two seconds before Amapola switches to a takedown. Meanwhile, Hiroka's hopped up Mima's shoulders, and Mima drops her down for a big splash on Lady Apache. Ruiz starts to make a count but Hiroka ain't covering. Rudas pose, and Amapola's on the ball enough to attack Dark Angel as she comes in. Maybe they're focusing on Dark Angel's mapleleaf? She's wearing the gold and black outfit this week. Double hiptoss, rolled back to her feet, and Mima drops her hard with a German suplex. India brought in and knocked into the corner. Mima and Hiroka set her on the top rope, and Amapola pulls her off. I think Amapola was going for a valaguesa, but loses her balance rather quick and falls backwards, so it's a suplex instead. Double dropkick to India's head. Lady Apache back in. Whip, drop toe hold, Amapola with a camel clutch, and double boot chokes by the others. Hiroka and Mima go the ropes for more, but India and Hiroka yank them out. Dark Angel in first, Lady Apache breaks free and lifts Angel on her shoulders, Dark Angel grabs Amapola's head and Lady Apache pushes her off into a spinning DDT. India Sioux in, and tossed into a double dropkick on the others. Japanese women roll out, Lady Apache fakes a dive, and India and Dark Angel get them with topes. Amapola and Lady Apache left in. Amapola charges, and gets sucked into a Atlántida - but slips out, inside cradle one two NO! She almost had it and takes a minute to complaining about. Charge, clothesline reverses into cradle by Apache one two no. Apache clothesline caught by Amapola, who turns into an armbar takedown, hooks both of Apache's arms with her legs, and rolls it into a cradle - one no Amapola rolls Apache back to a seated position and adds in a chinlock - and Lady Apache gives! Rudas celebrate. Camera fins the post of - Marcela, who's not in this match. Oh well. Tecnicas check to make sure Lady Apache is not dead, as the announcers remember that Lady Apache has all those belts. Amapola makes the I Want The Belt sign before we go to replays - we ever going to get that match? Was this to set up some match in Acapulco I'll never hear about? Perhaps.

Match 2: Olimpico, Pierroth, Universo 2000 (c) vs Satanico, Lizmark Jr., Marco Corelone (c)
Arena Coliseo, 03/04/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 8:39
Approx Rating: Short but not horrible.
Other Match Notes: Satanico's new top is rather plain. Who's this ring announcer? I should know Marco's theme song but I'm not hip enough. What a wacky combination of tecnicos. I guess I could see Lizmark Jr. and Corelone hanging out. Why Pierroth is wearing a Rich Gannon Raiders shirt? He's got new music, Pierroth should never have new music. This ring announcer really likes his job. Also liking his job is Pierroth, what with his big laugh in his promo.

1: Rudo beatdown to start. Highlight is Olimpico's new rolling corner back elbow. He kinda needs to work on his roll. Universo does something equally wacky, and then Pierroth just does a clothesline. Triple Nudo on Satanico - that's quick but I'm not complaining. A snap mare and a senton finished off Lizmark. Way to show fighting spirit! Rudos attack Marco on the outside. I believe Universo bites Marco's belly button, which is unique.

2: Rudos still in control. Double suplex for Corelone. Triple boot. Why does Corelone has the Nike swoosh on his trunks? Satanico's thrown around by his hair. Rudos huddle for no reason. Double clothesline, Lizmark kips up, Universo chest slaps him right down. Lizmark's got some amusing selling. Marco in and kicked in the corner. And they walk him over to another corner. What are they chanting? Corner whip, Universo whipped in after, Marco moves, ducks a double clothesline, and lands the springboard clothesline. He's fired up, which is funny. Stomps to Universo. They take the fight out to the floor, where it sounds like the girls approve. Inside the ring, Lizmark almost loses Olimpico on a spinning side slam but apparently does not actually kill the man. You're not supposed to fall backwards doing that. Pierroth back in, and he takes a Corelone Rock Bottom for three. Replays as rudos regroup on the outside. Universo and Olimpico mess with a side and Corelone does his hip swivel.

Vignette: Mistico talks to a young Tae Kwon Do winner. Look at all those medals. Wrestling needs more medals. Mistico and the kid talk each other up.

3: Once everyone gets settled down, Satanico and Pierroth start. Will Pierroth take a bump? Pierroth appears to be wearing jean shorts. Pierroth takes a hiptoss! Lots of chops, as you might expect. More whips is probably a good idea. Pierroth puts his head down, Satanico tries to throw him down by the head, but he can't, because Pierroth is bald. Pierroth laughs and laughs and gets clotheslined form behind. (Pierroth takes a gentle bump thru the ropes and too the floor.) Lizmark and Olimpico in. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, check. Three, this time. Olimpico ducks out, denying us of checking off the superkick for the moment. Universo and Marco. Marco wants to do this right in the middle of the ring. Or he wants to dance, I guess that's what he could mean. Universo and Pierroth fire each each other up. And back to the dance, which really distracts Corelone. Shoulderblock. Universo off the ropes, Corelone leapfrogs over, Universo is with a sunset flip, Corelone blocks, swivels, and punches Universo. Corner whip, reversed, Universo charges in, but Marco's long gone. Hiptoss, dropkick, clothesline, and out he goes. Marco takes a breath, while the other four guys are in the ring. Tecnicos are whipped into each other, and rudos try bulldogs, and they gets shoved off into each like usual. There's that superkick. Everyone spills to the floor, and the rudos trap the tecnicos in the front row chairs. Refs out to unstick them. This leaves Marco alone in the ring, and he puts up a good fight, but there's only one way for this to end, and that's with a low blow. Universo gets in a kick, and that's it.

Satanico gets the microphone and complains about the foul, but Magadan ain't hearing.  Universo gets his time, and promises to do the same when they meet in Mexico. Pierroth says, Corelone's not a hawk, he's a puppy. Olimpico says MEXICO #1. Corelone says he has no idea what he said - Universo attacks him to save us form the promo, I think. It gets broken up, and then unbroken up. Marco and Universo brawl into the ring, but this foes badly for the tecnicos, and Marco is bear up some more.
