CMLL GdR FSE - 01/21/07 (#24)
Recapped: 07/06/07
Unmasked: Universo 2000.
Match 1: Dr. X, Mr. Mexico (c), Hooligan vs Mascara Purpura, Virus (c), Tony Rivera
Arena Coliseo, 01/14/07
Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 8:07
Approx Rating: Usual.
Other Match Notes: Rudos do a group promo. Hooligan has a Pandilla
t-shirt with anime caricatures of the guys, and it looks great. Dr. X is
sporting a "Doctor X WRESTLING" shirt and it's equally as awesome. A
lot better than generic CMLL t-shirts with a guy posing in front of a Photoshop
background.
1: Captains start on the mat for all of four seconds before the beatdown starts. Gets to teamwork spots rather quick. Dr. X is doing the same crotch dropkick as Sangre. Purpura grabbed his head after taking the powerbomb. I was going to make fun of the rudos for choosing Mr. Mexico as captain, but look at the results!
Averno, Alex and Mephisto do a FSE promo here.
2: Beatdown continues. Triple boot for Tony looks as good as it can look. Mascara Purpura's mask gets stretched, and he takes a spinebuster. Rudos could use a bit more energy. Virus is held forever to signal the comeback before it happens, and sure enough, he ducks a double clothesline, dropkicks Mr. Mexico, ducks a Hooligan boot (which gets Dr. X), and - actually misses the handspring back elbow on Hooligan. Tony eventually makes the save with a superkick, and Virus monkey flips him into a tope con giro on the floor. Virus gives Dr. X a face first powerbomb to perfectly set him up for the SSP. Dr. X looks like he rather bail than take it, but he does.
3: Tecnico showcases go Tony (vs Dr. X), Virus - who looks pretty good with Mr. Mexico, which makes him great with anyone else, than Mascara Purpura. MP sends Hooligan out with a springboard armdrag, jumps to the apron, but Hooligan yanks him off on the Asai attempt. The other four end up in the ring, with Virus and Tony turning it around. Virus gets Dr. X up on his shoulders for a Tony plancha, but Dr. X ducks into a bodyscissors cradle and Rivera crashes and burns. Submissions for the rudos quickly after.
I zoomed by a Dr. Wagner promo here.
Match 2: Averno, Mephisto, Universo 2000 (c) vs Volador Jr., Mistico (c), Dr. Wagner
Arena Coliseo, 01/14/07
Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:54
Approx Rating: Lots of dives, slightly better than average.
Other Match Notes: You still can't see Volador Jr. Hey, it's heavyweight
champion versus heavyweight champion! No one cares. I like how we're supposed to
have the big reveal of what Universo 2000 looks like with his mask in the final
segment, and what do we have here? Universo 2000 without his mask. Rudos enter
second, still jump the tecnicos.
1: Lots of brawling and mask untying. Volador's mask flies off when taking a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker from Mephisto - he's totally bald right now. Mistico's comes off as well and both guys have trouble getting them back on. And as soon as he does, Mistico gets killed
2: Mistico takes a double press slam on the apron, never fun. Wagner and Universo are left in the ring while Volador takes one, which allows Wagner to do a lot of posing and occasional selling. While Mistico is down on the floor, a female fan comes over to help him retie his mask! That's awesome. Rudos finally get to doing teamwork, and Mistico immediately wants them to stop so he can take Averno one on one. Rudos are not that dumb. Of course, Mephisto immediately gets pulled out, Universo chases after him, and that leaves Mistico alone with Averno anyway. Headscissors sends Averno out, Mistico follows with a tornillo. Mephisto takes a hamstring kick, putting him in the ropes for Volador's guillotine legdrop. Universo can take a powerbomb?
3: Volador hits the best superkick of his life on Universo. Maybe he just needs taller targets? Assassins are sent out, Volador goes to the outside of the middle rope, Mistico goes to the top turnbuckle behind him, and they land stereo planchas. Wagner gets in his dive on Universo. Mistico, Averno, and Mistico saluting the crowd for cheering him. Mistico gets in his "roll of a third guy's back" headscissors. Volador and Mistico take turns sending the Assassins out, and Mistico whips Volador into a tope con giro on Mephisto. Mistico waits for Averno to get up - or, not, I guess. He starts to head out, comes back, waits, and Universo knocks him out of the ring with kicks. Universo wants Wagner. Wagner has to tease it before getting in, and then he's immediately worked over with kicks and chops. This turns into a pose off. Universo tries corner whips, uh, no, that never works for him. Sunset flip roll thru dropkick only gets two, much to Wagner's shock. Universo charges Wagner and throws himself out, Universo puts his head down to avoid a dive, but ends up getting armdragged on the floor. Volador superkicks Mephisto out and gets in an Asai Moonsault - is that his third dive of the match? This leaves Mistico and Averno, and Averno's losing his mind. Seriously he must see Mistico in his sleep. Averno lasts tens seconds.
Mistico wants a Middleweight Title match with Averno. Yea, why don't you ask for a mask match too. He actually doesn't ask for one, for once. Oh, he does when Julio Cesar interviews him. Yea, good luck on that.
