12/31: Mexico, highlights

CMLL (SUN) 12/30 Arena Mexico

4) Máscara Año 2000, Pierroth, Sangre Azteca b Heavy Metal, Leono, Sagrado
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Casas, Volador Jr. b Averno, Olímpico, Último Guerrero

Wagner yanked Ultimo’s mask and cradled him for the win, turning the tables from Friday and leading into this Friday’s match.

After his straight falls win, Pierroth announced he will retire on July 9th.

CMLL (SUN) 01/06 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Fabián el Gitano, Metálico vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Skandalo
3) Luna Magica, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Hiroka, La Nazi
4) La Máscara, Máximo, Sagrado vs Black Warrior, Ephesto, Sangre Azteca
5) Heavy Metal, Rey Bucanero, Volador Jr. vs Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza

This Sunday show and the Tuesday following are back in Arena Coliseo. I believe they all go back to Arena Mexico for a while longer after that.

Accion had
CMLL: Shocker vs Hector Garza
AAA: Guapos vs Stones cage match.
It was Accion’s 1500 episode, so they were also airing classic highlights. We saw the Infernales (MS-1, Pirata, Satanico) win a match in Arena Mexico on July 18, 1989.

DeporTV was doing a Top 10 Moves Of The Year – but it really was just ten highspots from a couple shows in October. Most, though not all, was from the 10/02 Rey de Aires. La Mistica was #2, Valiente’s dive was #1.

Here’s to health, happiness and good lucha libre in the next 12 months and beyond!

    Happy New year, folks!! :)

  5. I second all of the above.

Gracias, Cubs, for your hard work and dedication to this site. GOD bless you always.

Wishing all of you a blessed 2008!

  6. Looks like there’s more Arena swapping in Monterrey again. The De la Rosa family is out of Solidaridad, and Lucha VIP is in. Next weeks Coliseo MTY show is without AAA talent. I wonder if the De la Rosa’s will try to get Coliseo MTY?

The MTY AAA promoter was on Multimedios Radio a few weeks ago saying that it was possible that AAA would once again leave Coliseo MTY. My opinion, which does not matter, is that AAA should run the market just once a month with 8-12 top stars from Mexico City plus locals. AAA just isn’t meant to run a town weekly anymore.

  7. Colieso 1/6’s top two matches look great. I’d love to see them.

Shocker v Hector Garza looked good from the clips. Hair vs Hair would be nice. Plus the guapos cage match I look forward to seeing. And the classic clips were great. I wasn’t sure if it was a tribute to a commentator or what. But nice to see that on tv.

Not sure if anyone cares but I did find out ESPN classic is going to start showing UWF episodes at like 1:00 am Tuesday morning/monday late night eastern time. Not sure what it all is but it is two 30 minute shows every night that week and looks like it may be a regular thing. Just thought I’d pass it on if anyone would like to watch this.

And cubs, thanks again for this site. It is the best source for lucha libre news from all over that I know of for sure. Keep up the great work.

  8. Geez, that’s the second time DeporTV has used those clips as filler. It would be quite something if the top 10 spots of the year came from one show, or even one match as they tried to insinuate. At least they got #1 right.:)
