11/08: Reynosa, IWRG, Tijuana, Monterrey

One of the Ovaciones headlines says Abismo Negro will be in TNA Mexico shows, while the body says Abismo and Mesias will NOT be in TNA’s Meixco shows (because AAA hasn’t given the okay.) That’s now totally confusing.

AAA (WED) 11/07 Arena Juba de Reynosa [LMdL
1) Charly Manson, Chessman, Elegido b Cuervo, Ozz, Scoria
2) Cibernetico & La Parka Jr. b Mesias & Zorro

IWRG (THU) 11/08 Arena Naucalpan
1) Filoso, Freelance, Golem vs Black Terry, Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro
2) Centauro, Fantasma de la Opera, Veneno vs Cerebro Negro, Cyborg, Yamato
3) Dos Caras, Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Navarro vs Enterrador 2000, Hijo de Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.

indy (FRI) 11/09 Auditorio de Tijuana [EX-TIGER @ Satnico’s Mansion]
1) Kendo & Thundermask vs Pandillero I & Pandillero II
2) El Dandy, Super Maquina, Zandokan vs Camaleon, Hijo de Rey Misterio, Rey Misterio Sr.
3) La Nazi & Medussa vs Metalica & Princesa Blanca
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., LA Park, Silver King vs Damian 666, Hector Garza, Terrible

The article quoted with this card suggests it’ll be a long night for 5 on LA Park, but I’d think he’d turn to help out the Perros first.

indy (SUN) 11/11 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Paty Rey vs Bandida [FILL WOMEN]
2) Hampon I & Hampon II vs Black Killer & Viernes 13
3) Mercurio & Mortal USA vs Abogado del Diablo & Azteca Warrior
4) Ejecutor, Mr. Secuestro, Sika vs Angel del Amor, Bam Bam (Monterrey), Casanova
5) Chakos, Hijo del Trueno, Relampago Azul vs Androide, Potro Jr., Rey Sagitario

AAA will be running at the Durango fair on November 18 and 19.

Atlanta Latino manages to write a bio about Blue Demon Jr. without mentioning any of the current name issues. That’s skill. Blue Demon Jr. will be in Atlanta on Sunday as part of a lucha libre exhibition.

It took Hijo del Santo and Wagner Jr a single show each to realize this building is dead. Any local arena would be ashamed of a main event like that over here…

  2. Yeah. It’s amazing that at one time, Antifaz’ mother was running the venue, and bringing in top names every week.

Just look at some of the older lineups here on cubsfan, and you can see just how much this venue has deteriorated. They say it’s in a bad neighborhood. I don’t think it’s so bad. I had no problem walking around the area, and taking the subway and bus back to my hotel. Subway is just 1 1/2 blocks from the arena.

  3. As the one person who’s suffering/converting ACM shows from VHS to DVD, they’ve been on a decline ever since that Hijo Del Santo vs. La Parka match from 2001.

From that point forward you end up with a lot of gimmicky matches, way too much Pancho Tequila, and slowly the departure of all the good local workers going to Soli and NL.

AAA’s involvement on the weekly shows (not their own televised shows) consisted of the Black Family vs. Barrio Boys and a lot of the old-timers mixed in with the crappy locals like Hator, Konan Big, etc.

I can’t really blame the fans for not showing up.

Same thing probably affected NL with all those gimmick matches. They still had good locals and brought in star talent, but those gimmick matches are confusing to the point you almost don’t want to watch them. How many times can they have 3-way trios, hair/masks on the line, relevos increibles matches? Instead of it being a special type of match, it ends up being a weekly thing that burns the crowd out. I should write a “What I don’t like in Lucha?” report.:)

On the bright side, I only have 2004 to convert and I’m done! WOO HOO!!!!

  4. I blame the Heliodoro vs Gigante Silva feud for starting it all. The neighborhood is bad, my mother grew up near there and my oldest aunt still lives in the same house (2 blocks from from Substation Felix U Gomez), which is actually near from Arena Monterrey as well, but that one has a big parking lot. I’ve never had a problem myself, but then again, I never been there with the responsability of taking care of a wife and kids…

Monumental is also somewhat near, but that is dead as well, I think the crowd has given up on those, not really because of the names they hire, but simply because the crowd is now looking for better and nicer venues.

  5. It’s not the best neighborhood, but it’s not blighted either. There’s a huge Soriana just across the street, and a bustling shopping district beginning just one block east of Coli MTY. It’s middle-class no doubt.

I think the time has come for Multimedios to sell the building, and cut a deal to televise Solidaridad. Free publicity in exchange for tv rights. I don’t think there’s room for so many weekly shows in MTY.

  6. They actually have invested a lot to improve the area, that Soriana is the oldest one there in Monterrey, but it got a liftover to resemble the newer ones, as well as some old movie cinemas which were only showing XXX movies are now back to their glory days, but the subsconcious mind will tell everyone the place is bad. Even the Coliseo itself is much nicer looking, but both Colon and La Calzada are traffic nightmares, enough to keep most away.
