Okay, someone loves multi team matches a little too much. Gotta get everyone on the card!(!!!!!!!) The show is subtitled “Night of Champions”, which is why belts I’ve long considered dead are back alive here.

The main event does not give away the 11/11 title match (asusming there is one) – well played.

Chris Stone is now on the same level as Guapito. Actually, I think that’s more of an insult to Guapito. I don’t mind the alteration to get a slightly different match.

You know, what with the Japan flag and the Oriental Eagle nickname and the music that screams “TOKYO!”, I had this weird idea Kenzo Suzuki was Japanesse. Apparently, if that title match is going to happen, he’s Mexican. I was also thinking the other day that AAA was doing as many cage matches as they did bull terrier matches last year and was at least happy we didn’t get any more of those. Ha, no!

I guess Familia de Tijuna isn’t dead after all (so far.) Jack Evans and Tedd Hart, besides being Canadians with high profiles in the US indy scene, are listed here as “LX”. Maybe it’s supposed to be WSX?

Fabi and Billy have issues with all other three teams in the mixed tag match, so it kinda works. I would’ve much rather seen the straight tag they’ve been building to and then do Mari/Gran later on, but I can accept it. The great news is Gran Apache being scheduled to work a match. We can only hope it means he’s feeling much better.

Sect going from being in the main event to the opener, though it would seem to be a pretty fun match. Given the theme of the night, it’s a bit surprising they didn’t add Espiritu and Pegasso (or Nemesis) and do an Atomicos title match too.

Announced Future Tapings
– none

  1. I’m looking forward to match 2. I think and hope it leads to a double hair match with the apaches.

Match 3 looks MOTYC worthy huh Robert? Man that has Clusterfuck written all over it.

  2. If Alex Koslov can challenge for Sangre Azteca’s Mexican National Welterweight Title, then why not Kenzo for the Mexican National Tag.

  3. I think that the Javier who posted on lomejordelalucha is the AAA promoter in Monterrey.

I just don’t see the purpose of bringing in Teddy Hart to AAA at this point. It’s total internet booking. And you know Konnan is behind it, and he has already been burned by guys like Psicosis, so he’s taking a risk here.

Anyone see any photos from the FMLL dates with Santo in Stockton and Bakersfield from this past weekend?

  4. I like the card even if it stinks of Konnan stuck in ECW-1995 fandom.

I like Jack and am glad to see him coming to Mexico. Teddy will either no-show or act like an idiot ruining the match. Either way… it’s useless to have either of them on the show. They’re in a mid-card match and mean NOTHING to live attendance, TV ratings, merchandise, etc. Like Keith said, it’s internet booking which only serves two purposes:

    1) Dave can finally put faces with the names Konnan says while discussing AAA.

    2) To try and make AAA the new “smart mark hot thing” ala 1994.

Really, AAA is fine as it is. I guess it’s just too much to expect the booker to realize that.

Maybe Chris Stone will get shaved somehow in your Penatypical AAA finish.

Like I said, I like the show top to bottom.

Oh, only reason they aren’t doing Mesias/Ciber already is b/c Konnan isn’t 100%. When he is ready to actually work properly, they’ll do the match and Konnan will play a major part in Mesias losing which will lead to Konnan vs Mesias with Konnan going over of course and eventually Ciber going back rudo so Konnan can go through him as well. Ray Charles told me this.

  5. Difference between Koslov and Kenzo is Koslov was doing it at a low profile spot show, while AAA’s trying it at one of the biggest show of the year. Kenzo will be replaced or the title match part will be dropped.

I’d be okay with bringing in Evans and Hart if it was going to be treated like something special and different, since they could have a memorable enough match that it makes the idea of bringing in random outsiders MEAN something. But they’re just two more bodies in a multi-man match, being used no different than the Air Force guys would be (if they weren’t already in a match.) The match may still be interesting, but I don’t know how they’ll make AAA any money.

  6. luchalibrelive: Teddy Hart did say in an interview that Konnan contacted him personally to come to AAA, so your right in suspecting that Konnan is behind it.

You guys are hitting the nail on the head by talking about the Internet booking and Konnan trying to be seen as “cool and hip” to the dirtsheet community and “smart” fans.

  7. Found out a little about Arena El Jefe Monterrey. About a year ago, “El Jefe” promotions was the resident boxing promoter at Arena Coliseo MTY, until getting into a fight with Multimedios. El Jefe opened his own little venue to house his own boxing, so he would not have to deal with MM. Now that AAA is out of Coliseo, it seems like they’re going to do business with Jefe. Jefe also has a bar/nightclub just two blocks from Coli, and I went there last year. I expect AAA to do tv from places like DOMO CARE and maybe even the bullring.

  8. About Konnan and booking for the smarts, I don’t blame him. I’ve heard he doesn’t book the whole promotion, just some of the matches. CMLL is doing so bad right now that AAA needs to embrace the Smart fan. They will always get the causal fan because people always seem to like AAA.

  9. I’m actually looking forward to the AAA card, especially the mixed tag match, just to see Bill/Fabi Vs Mari Gran Apache.

  10. Daniel, Latin Lover was on HOY today on Galavision. He was signing autographs at a book store. No mention of AAA. He’s still over with the girls. My beef with him is that he complains about Intocable doing his gimmick, yet Lover never made a stink about Brazo doing the Latin Boiler gimmick. Selective enforcement.

  11. Kenzo, Koslov and the rest can go for the national titles if they have been granted the Mexican Citizenship, I bet they have not, but angle-wise, they can say that… didn’t Benoit won the US title a couple of times?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Zorro vs Ciber feud ends up upstaging the one with Banderas…

  12. There’s no commission overseeing WWE (or any US) titles. The WCW TV title was changed on non-TV shows, it was wacky.

I don’t think Latin felt as threatened by El Brazo. Just a guess.

  13. Commisions work acording to the angles, if the prommotions tell them they are Mexicans, they’ll let it happen -most titles matches wouldn’t be legal simply because of weight issues anyways-, the real problem would be with the immigration oficials who are not into any angle.

I don’t think the match will happen, but you never now, maybe Kenzo applied for the naturalization process (it’s pretty common with soccer players over here).

Since the AAA tag title that will also be defended at that show is billed as “extreme title”, I wonder if the Mexican has been turned turn into “AAA World Tag Title”… heck, maybe by next Spring everyone will have a title in AAA!!!

  14. Impossible. Konnan doesn’t have the time to beat the entire roster one by one when he finally does his superman tecnico run.

  15. I love bashing Konnan more than anyone around (I never liked him even during the 90’s), but, shouldn’t we bash him on things he’s actually done not hypotetical stuff like that superman tecnico run?

He just jobbed to Manson (who’s probably not even in AAA top ten stars) clean, so I don’t see any reason to expect such a thing happening… for now.

  16. Konnan was best friend with Nash and Hall in WCW and he learned everything they know. Nash lay down for Rey Jr. and Hall lay down for HECTOR GARZA of all people during their WCW runs. This was b/c when it got to the time where they would refuse to job for other people, they’d say “hey man – I jobbed for (insert Garza) once! I’m a team player!” Even though they never did a real job… they just happened to get pinned via flukes and in both cases they destroyed the guys that pinned them right afterwards. It was a joke, not a job.

I haven’t seen Konnan putting over Manson yet but I’d bet either:

    a) it was a fluke win where Konnan got up right afterwards saying he wasn’t really pinned

    or

    b) it was interference that led to Konnan being pinned.

Konnan isn’t dumb, everything he is doing now booking-wise is just to fit into his big plan when he becomes the top tecnico. I used to be a huge Konnan fan so there would be nothing more I’d love than to see him as the top AAA tecnico but he’s a broken down man and sometimes it sucks to see a promotion being booked just to get a guy over who is past his prime.

Wrestling has always been about people repeating the past mistakes of others, hence why the business is so cyclical. Konnan knows how the nWo and their “superstars” destroyed WCW but deep down he can’t help himself b/c he wants to be the big star who the promotion revolves around as he wasn’t that guy in WCW.

  17. I think Konnan will do the babyface run. That means he’ll get all jacked up again. He really should get his job back at TNA. My friend hates Konnan, and was complaining to me that he was on the radio saying AAA is coming to NY and LA next year. They’re good for a sellout at Hammerstein Ballroom(2,500), and 5,000 at LA Sports or Pico Rivera Sports. They’re also good for 3,000 in Chicago, at someplace like UIC Pavilion. They bombed in Texas, but the local promoter was clueless. It all depends on wheter or not AAA can find a local promoter to sell the shows to.

  18. So then let’s bash Konnan for Nash and Hall’s errors? It was neither a fluke nor interference produced, and was during a (possible annual) tourney, so not really fits into the mentioned types.

  19. luchalibrelive: Thanks for the update on Latin Lover. Maybe next time you can tell me about his appearances ahead of time so I can catch it. ha ha. On that note, any more word on his no-showing the Pena show?

I think the reason why he didn’t care about Brazo was that Brazo was never meant to be taken seriously. Besides his gimmic is immmitating other wrestlers. I remember when he did the Latin Boiler thing and then Latin Love came out and beat the hell out of him before the match even started. So Latin Lover already got his revenge on Brazo.

Rob: You mention how Konnan learned from Hall and Nash, but I say the guy who had the biggest(and most negative) influence on him was Vince Russo. If you want to talk about repeating mistakes of the past you will find a lot of comparisons between “Konnan’s AAA” and “Vince Russo’s” WCW.

Tim: Booking for the “smarts” always has poor results. It just never works. WCW went under when they started targeting the “smarts” and countless other feds have gone under because of that. Vince McMahon has rarely ever targeted the “smart” fans, and althought I don’t like a lot of things Vince does you can’t deny his success.

  20. I didn’t know he’d be on. I was watching the morning news, and he just happened to appear.

And as much as I bash the current AAA, I’d still put my money on them over CMLL at the box office. I hope their US tour happens. CMLL won’t get anything off the ground b/c they want too much for their guys.
