10/19: AAA taping notes, Mexico, Santo/Park

the first report on last night’s AAA TV tapings aren’t totally clear about finishes but mention a whole lot of replacements. Abismo Negro and Laredo Kid (obviously) were both missing from the semimain, so that became a trios. Nicho was missing and replaced by Psicosis II (awesome – I wonder if Nicho’s done here already, to return again in 6 months.) Pegasso, who Arturo Rivera mentioned was just about ready to return, did not return on this show and was replaced with Cassandro instead.

Electroshock was the surprise rudo in the main event. It’s not clear how much Mesias wrestled (or anyone wrestled, by the sound of the match.) Meanwhile, TNA set out a message to it’s text message subscribers this past week that Mesais would be out indefinitely (so they don’t know what’s going on here either.)

CMLL (FRI) 10/19 Arena Mexico
1) Sombra de Plata & Starman vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Felino, Leono, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satánico
3) Sagrado, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Mephisto, Samurai Shiro
4) Dos Caras Jr., La Sombra, Shocker vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Místico & Negro Casas vs Atlantis & Último Guerrero

ESTO‘s preview, which includes a bit about Bam Bam wanting to make the Virus leap to full size wrestling. The push for the show is all in the main event, where we may be setting up a rematch for the titles next week. Texano Jr. is pretty high up on the card, and this is part of him being an offical Perro.

Ovaciones says the Santo “Todo X El Todo” show will include Lola Gonzalez defending her European title. Now I’m totally sold. Actually, it also says that only Santo, Park and Demon are actually signed for the show and everyone else is in talks, which means this card could change again in the next six weeks.

There’s related, but outdated stories about Santo from NotiMex and ESTO. Both are more written about Santo hitting 25 years, and talk about LA Park/Santo being expanded to a triangle or four way match. Notiver has an updated story, focusing on the boxing-like skirmmish at the press confrence. Santo here says he’s got no plans to work the TNA shows.

LA Park is interviewed in Rumbo, talking about his career and hyping up a local show on 10/27. They’ve got the wrong date for the Santo match, but Park’s real name in the first line of the story. Park is going with the “Hijo del Santo is just living off his father’s name” taunt for this feud. Park’s son wants to wrestle, but he’s not really high on the idea and is insisting the kid (who’s 19) get his law degree first.

Meanwhile, the TNA press conference was canceled, no reason given.

Sangre Chicana was telling people he was retiring soon. Sometime this millennium, I’m sure.

A Tuscon, Arizona lucha indy is running a Russian Roulette tournament next Wednesday. The show will be taped for TV Azteca (I assume just the local station.)

El Universal has a short story on the AAA VIP shows, sorta.

  1. Forgive me if I say something crazy, I am going on 3 1/2 hours sleep here.

I want to see the Santo show, only to see who comes in and works and who doesn’t.

What Intercontinental Title does Lola hold?

  2. This group is doing exactly what ENESMA and GWAS did which ran them out of business before you could blink. Much hilarity is sure to take place within the following weeks.

  3. It’s pretty sad as there is so much talent in Mexico that there is room for a third promotion, especially now that all sorts of TV channels want Lucha in their lineups and CMLL is alienating a ton of local promoters. The problem is there really isn’t anyone out there who has the brains combined with money to start up a third company. There’s a people with brains… people with money… but no one person with both. Sad.

  4. The problem is that whoever tries to open up a third company is a mark for something or someone in particular and doesn’t use common sense.

  5. I remember the ENESMA people thinking a Villano III/Signo feud would turn things around and draw the big crowd they were waiting for.

    VILLANO III VS SIGNO…

    IN 2004!!!

  6. Funny how nobody considers IWRG the “third group”. They have international tv, their own venue, and run over 100 shows a year.

Hey Robert, tln en espanol officially launches on Tuesday. They should have Toronto and Montreal covered by January at the latest. They’re getting CMLL back on the air. You’ll need digital tv to get it though.

  7. It looks like it’s launching on Bell ExpressVU which is Rogers’ main competition although Rogers is clearly winning that battle. I’m sure Rogers will pick up the channel in no time.

  8. My guess is that tnl espanol will get Toronto and Montreal affiliates first. Beyond that will be tough. When I was in Montreal last year, I was amazed at how many Mexican were up there. There is now a market for this in Canada.
