10/16: Averno/Mistico, Queretaro, IWRG, Super Astro

the impossible dream/CMLL

This is a bit rushed, so if I missed anything (like the AAA TV taping), I’ll get to it later or tomorrow.

CMLL (SUN) 10/14 Arena Coliseo
1) Bam Bam, Mini Olimpico, Tzuki DQ Mini Violencia, Mr. Aguilita, Pierrothito
2) India Sioux, Lady Apache, Luna Magica b Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Dr. X, Nitro, Skandalo b Fabian el Gitano, Leono, Neutron
4) Mephisto, Texano Jr., Toscano b Heavy Metal, La Mascara, Sombra
5) Averno, Black Warrior, Ultimo Guerrero b Marco Corelone, Mistico, Volador Jr.

Get this: it came down to Averno vs Mistico, Mistico went for La Mistica – and Averno escaped!(!!!!!!) He’s good for one of those a year and he made fine use of it here, getting away with a low blow and pinning Mistico.

Despite Ovaciones hitting in a middleweight unification direction and Averno making that specific challenge, CMLL is listing a non-title Averno/Mistico match for next Sunday. You don’t think Averno could beat Mistico twice in a row to set up a title match, do you? Naaaaaaah.

CMLL (SUN) 10/21 Arena Coliseo
1) Astro Boy & Sensei vs Polvora & Vaquero
2) Fabian el Gitano, Leono, Tony Rivera vs Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Mr. Mexico
3) Felino, La Mascara, Valiente vs Misterioso II, Skandalo, Virus
4) Black Warrior, Olimpico, Samurai Shiro vs Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero, Shocker
5) Averno vs Mistico

There’s no additional wrestlers to the card (except Polvora replacing Artillero in the opener.) The match that’s now the opener was just changed into a parajes (as most openers are) and two guys got bumped up from each match.

Mini Violencia punted Bam Bam in Sunday’s opener to end that match, as final build to their hair match tonight. You’d think CMLL would be putting the mini rudos over strong to set up Mascarita Dorada vanquishing them, but this one definitely feels like another Bam Bam win. Whatever the thought process, they’ve finally got this division unstuck the last few months, now they just need to get it on TV.

Arturo Rivera’s column says Laredo Kid will be out five more weeks (I think! – “cinco semanas”) Mesias will be out two more, which means his matches on both TV tapings this week were planned false advertisements.

Rivera also mentions Rey Bucanero and La Diabolica are having martial issues. Arturo makes a point of saying he wouldn’t mention this if it wasn’t already public, though I hadn’t heard about till this column. Is this La Diabolica not the AAA one? I always get that confused.

CMLL (TUE) 10/16 Arena Queretaro [Diario de Queretaro]
1) Perro del Ring & Sindrome vs Eragon & Zarna
2) Neurosis & Startron vs Drabek I & Drabek II
3) El Blanco & Principe Valiete Jr. vs Espiritu Negro & Lince
4) Villano III & Villano IV vs Damian 666 & Hector Garza
5) Mistico & Ultimo Guerrero vs Averno & Dr. Wagner Jr. [pi]

That semimain makes no sense, but whatever.

IWRG (THU) 10/18 Arena Naucalpan
1) Halcon Salvaje & Latin Brother vs Judas el Traidor & Rockero del Diablo
2) Ave Fenix, Goldem, Samba vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Xibalba
3) Centauro, Fabian el Gitano, Hijo de Anibal vs Black Terry, Enterrador 2000, Septiembre Negro II
4) Negro Casas vs Damian 666, Villano III, Oficial Fiero, Nitro, Ultraman Jr., Bogeman, Felino [IWRG MIDDLE, torneo, sf]

Ovaciones says this is week one of a tournament for the vacant title. Last champion was Pentagon Black, who hasn’t really been around much. Ovaciones says this is part 1 of the tournament, though the Box Y Lucha listing isn’t as clear. You gotta figure this is going to the sponsored wrestler.

the previous thought was previously left unfinished. Edited to make sense

IWRG (SUN) 10/21 Arena Naucalpan
1) Ave Fenix & Kid Tiger vs Judas el Traidor & Rockero del Diablo
2) Fabian el Gitano, Golem, Samba vs Capitan Muerte, Cyborg, Xibalba
3) Bogeman, Centauro, Negro Navarro vs Cirujano, Electroshock, Enterrador 2000
4) Fantasma de la Opera & Freelance vs Black Terry & Cerebro Negro [mask, hair, IWRG IC WELTER]

Perhaps they’re moving the title to Freelance before they blow off Black Terry/Fantasma de la Opera?

indy (WED) 10/17 Arena Emilano Zapata
1) Meteoro Kid vs Tigre Serval
2) Astro Boy & Comodin vs Comando del Aire & Macho Jr.
3) Hijo de Valiente & Valiente Jr. vs Halcon Diabolico I & Halcon Diabolico II
4) Bacteria & Halcon Salvaje vs Medico I & Medico III
5) Caramelo & Kung Fu Jr. vs Negro Navarro & Violencia

Just to point out both Valiente cousins are working here now.

CMLL (WED) 11/07 Auditorio Miguel Barragan [El Sol de San Luis Potosi]
1) Mensajero del Mal vs Coyote Jr., Danny Boy, King Flash
2) Bam Bam & Mascarita Dorada vs Mini Damian 666 & Mr. Aguilita
3) Luna Magica & Marcela vs Hiroka & Mima Shimoda
4) Alex Koslov, Dos Caras Jr., Maximo vs Black Warrior, Loco Max, Sangre Azteca
5) Lizmark Jr., Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero vs Hector Garza, Terrible, Texano Jr.

The article mentions this will be the first time the SLP people will be able to see the face of Olimpico. I presume they meant Lizmark Jr. and are not breaking news. That’s the first definite Dorada booking I’ve seen, a couple days before his announced Arena Mexico debut.

Magazines:
Box Y Lucha #2840 has Wagner’s departure from CMLL. Sounds like
Guerreros del Ring #109 has the AAA returns of Nicho, Konnan and Electroshock

Both hype “Super Astro has left AAA” stories.

Among the winners of this year’s Califa de Oro awards for outstanding work in television, radio, theater, and movies was CMLL referee Babe Richard.

Noticas-Oax has an bio of local ex-wrestler Demon Red, who reveals his real name.

  1. Arena Queretaro is taping for local Galavision in that market. I always see photos from those shows in Box Y Lucha. I would not be surprised if Arena Queretaro is on some kind of sellout streak every two weeks.

  2. “Rivera also mentions Rey Bucanero and La Diabolica are having martial issues. Arturo makes a point of saying he wouldn’t mention this if it wasn’t already public.”

Could we have another Batista and Bret Hart in the works?

  3. ACM should do what Queretaro does. Run a big show every two weeks, and that’s it.

Perros del Mal without Perro Jr. on a show is like The Four Horsemen without Flair in 1987.

  4. More than just issues, there is a full blown split with Diabolica keeping their kids during the week and Bucanero getting them on the weekends which must suck for him because he does most of his work on the weekends.
