  1. Oh boy.

This is not good for EMLL.

Which is bad because well, the fans are really giving Mistico the John Cena treatment, and your only draws now are the Perros.

    This is not good.

  2. Worse yet, Perros don’t draw at all (Perro Jr just main evented the smallest ArMex crowd in 3 years)

I wonder if Wagner knows something the rest of us don’t… like if the new Santo Jr company is a reality…

  3. A usually reliable poster on RFC’s board is claiming there will be a mask/hair match on November 7th at Arena Monterrey w/ 5 winners: Mistico, Wagner, Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, El Averno and 1 loser: Hector Garza.

  4. That was announced last week, most likely, Wagner won’t be on that, Mistico as well, you can bet he will be injured in a couple of weeks. This also means that we won’t be seeing Garza for a while on TV… not that he has been on a lot lately.

They need to add at least 3 hair guys more, no one is buying a mask is falling here, even the archi-pro-monterrey fans can not really hope that Averno will lose, can they?

  5. This is really sad; I believe Wagner is the one really bringing crowds to Arena Mexico and not Mistico. Outside from Mexico City, maybe its Mistico… This are bad news.

  6. What crowds has Wagner brought? He’s super-over, yeah… but he’s super-over with the crowd that comes every week no matter what. The same 4-5,000 people that were in the building when that’s how many people they were drawing every week. The reason attendance gets pushed over 10,000 is because of Mistico. Not only do the regular fans come out to see him, so do the new fans.

  7. What crowds has Mistico brought? Mistico headlining without Wagner has also drawn 5000, so it’s reciprocal. Mistico drew 5000 in the Father’s day non-special facing Averno and Mephisto, while facing Wagner in a much thougher day, Sept 16 drew almost twice…

  8. The fact is Mistico has a track record of bringing in big crowds while Wagner has never spiked attendance once on his own.

  9. The fact is Mistico has a track record of bringing in big crowds
    “””””””

Track record is meaningless if he’s drawing 4000 right now.

  10. Track record is EVERYTHING in Mexico. This is why people still pay to use Cien Caras on shows.

  11. That’s in California, not in Mexico.

And the track record is debatible, Mistico falls in the same category of “it’s a lucha boom, the arenas are full, and he just happen to be the most over guy” but not the one generating the draw, certainly, not fully.

He was at his peak when he was feuding Polyester in la Hora de la Papa. But he didn’t went over with the soap opera. But the good draws have fallen in times were there are many tourist in Mexico City. April-May and Sept-December were as bad in 2006 (with Mistico) as they have been this year, him being absent because of injuries had not even affected CMLL.

  12. this is really bad for cmll and for ous, wagner is one of the best wrestler in CMLL today and also a huge draw.

now CMLL is just mistico, and not like wagner he don’t now to wrestler.

  13. I figure Mistico, Perro Jr., Wagner, and Ultimo Guerrero are the top four stars in CMLL, and draw in that order. Like Cena, HHH, Edge, and Undertaker for WWE when all are healthy.

I agree that Cien Caras is a draw especially when used as a novelty.

  14. Ultimo Guerrero is not a draw, certainly not like Undertaker. He always get booked and is one of the best paid dudes because draws ask to be booked against him.

I think what draws the most is the stips, most of them have drawn pretty well, even the 2006 cage match that had no one remotely considered a draw, and the Bucky/Tarzan vs Damian/Aguila, heck, even Halloween vs Universo. Only stip matches which drew relatively poorly were 2006 anniversary (with stupid price tags- although this year they had the same prices and sold out) and Shocker/Universo vs Corleone/Suzuki. But overall, stips sell.

UG has never been put into a position of being a draw… Aguayo is the opposite example since he’s been involved in more stip matches than most guys nowdays, but he doesn’t seem to tour that much, from the lineups we see in this blog, it doesn’t look as if he works as much as Mistico/Wagner/Guerrero, so who knows.

Right now, CMLL only has Mistico to draw, which is dangerous considering he’s not even recovered from his injuries.

I’m thinking maybe Wagner and CMLL figured out that the days of drawing 10,000+ every week are over and Wagner opted for went his way instead of seeing his paycheck reduced to 40%, since guys get paid according to their position in the card and a percentage of the gate.

Main reason I don’t see Wagner going to AAA is because AAA doesn’t really need him.

  15. Wagner is not the style of AAA, he’s more technical and wont participate on those stupid feuds this comic-show enterprise builds.

  16. Posing for 3/4 of the match and dropkicking guys for the other 1/4 is the new definition of a technical wrestler? Someone tell Negro Navarro.

  17. I’d also like an explanation about when Wagner pretends to inject his partner with steroids for a cheap pop from the crowd in a gag that takes over 2 minutes to pull off properly. Is that some special kind of technical wrestling invented by Dr. Wagner in the 70’s?

  18. It seems the real reason for Wagner leaving CMLL is that CMLL was sending him to events and he didn’t get paid. He was asked to film a commercial for Coca Cola, but didn’t show up since CMLL was the one getting paid, same happen for other promotions with Super Markets and stuff.
