Blue Demon Jr. to lose his mask?

–Steve Sims reports that as of last night, Blue Demon Jr. was scheduled to lose his mask on Tuesday night in Tijuana in his mask vs. mask match with Espectro Jr. at the baseball stadium. There was a split between the Munoz family and the man who plays Blue Demon Jr. and the family leaked out there was legal action pending to keep him from using the name from this point forward. The worst part for the Mexican fans is that Demon Jr. is not the son of Demon (it had always been said he was the adopted son)

Blue Demon Jr. having issues with the Blue Demon family has been mentioned recently – Super Luchas had a post on this last week – but they’ve seemed to be working closely together on Blue Demon related projects that I didn’t think it’d come to this, especially so quick. This is also hard to believe just for the man who’d be winning it.

Espectro Jr. is 50, and it made all the sense in the world that he’d go for the last big payday losing his mask to Demon. He’s not the guy you’d expect to win Demon’s mask, because what do you do with that from here? (Drop his own quickly to someone else, so he gets two big matches out of it while it means a lot?) But if you’re to believe this, Espectro Jr. was just in the right place at the right time. The Demon/Espectro match was pushed back from it’s original date, and plans might have changed between now and then.

It’s also a feud that’s mostly been built up by magazine coverage, because there’s no TV coverage. Rumors of one of the legendary names in the history of lucha libre actually losing will could only help the draw.

Much like with Huracan Ramirez, I wonder if Blue Demon’s family is thinking they’ll put a new guy under the mask. I don’t know what the future would be for the current Blue Demon Jr. if he can’t use that name – he’s always seemed to be a guy who needed that gimmick.

  1. I have to think it is a work also, though I was almost shocked at first at the prospect of it. I like Rob’s idea of him dropping it to Santo, but I’d much rather prefer him dropping it to an up and comer who could build his career off of it.

  2. Demon Jr went from “I’m his kid, but my mom is blond, that’s why we don’t look alike” to a foster parent, to a “paying 30% for the rights to use the name” in no time…

If the real family is fool enough to make this public and take the name out… then Wagner Jr would pretty much jump at the second top junior position ever… yes Rayo sucks.

  3. The most amazing thing of Demon Jr not being really related to Demon Sr but business wise, is… couldn’t he find someone better?

I remember when Molinaro asked us to write something about Demon Jr for the Hurricanrana! “Look at” or “Spotlight” (or something like that) feature, I was agonizing on how to put it… kindly… Bihari simply wroe “he sucks”. I can understand pushing your kid even if he sucks, but a stranger?

  4. Wow is all I can say about Demon. So what happens to the Coca-Cola/Full Throttle deal? I wonder if Demon’s family can get a last minute court order to stop him from losing the mask, which they can argue would indeed kill the gimmick.

  5. I bet that Coca Cola thing is the Apple of Discord, the drink seems to belong to Blue Demon, but the prommotion was done by Jr, so I guess that’s where each jumped at each other.

  6. I know for a fact that Coca-Cola could not use that image in Mexico, only in the United States. Not sure exactly why. I think the ad agency sent me a bunch of photos of the billboards they ran in LA. If I find them, I’ll put them up.

  7. Some fans at Luchalibre.com are saying no Mistico for FMLL tonight.

What do you guys think of this? I think Rocky and Konnan will be working together again.

  8. The place looked too small, I wonder if CMLL plugged it at the spot (although half of their guys worked- which means the other half no showed).

Lizmark Sr was asking 400 dollar per mask… I guess he’s selling his last pieces before Panther beats him too… hehehe.

With AAA airing through Gala, it would make sense for them to run LA, but there must be a reason they’re not doing so.

  9. My guess is Rocky/FMLL has his own vision of what Lucha should be, and it does not include AAA. That’s why he does not use AAA talent.

When I saw the FMLL website, I knew they were in over their heads again. Kind of sad this happened.

  10. On Mas Deporte, Arturo Rivera had Mesias, Cibernetico, and Elegido as guests. Nothing major, but Rivera did get mad and throw a pillow at Mesias. He gave away four tickets to the Pena Memorial.
