09/05: Sunday Mexico show on 09/16, anniversary lineup tomorrow, Puebla, Juarez, Monterrey, IWRG, comics, Chivas, TNA

CMLL.com has a few announcements

– they’re running another Sunday Arena Mexico show on 09/16. That’d gotta be Purpura vs Emilio. Ovaciones also floats a Stuka/Satanico feud; I don’t know if that’s it, but there surely will be another noteworthy match.

– the full card for the anniversary show will be announced at a press conference. The cage match participants will sign the contract for their match at that time

– groups of people were waiting outside the ticket booth Tuesday morning just to be the first ot buy tickets.

CMLL (MON) 09/03 Arena Puebla [hugo999]
1) Blue Center, Forajido, The Tiger DQ Mr. Rafaga, Siki Osama, Siki Osama Jr.

4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero b Averno, Lizmark Jr., Mephisto
5) Perro Aguayo Jr. b Ultimo Guerrero

Perro snuck in a low blow on Ultimo. In the opener, rudos got DQed on the “no tossing the guy over the top rope” rule.

AAA (SUN) 09/02 Poliforo Juan Gabriel, Ciudad Juarez
1) Galaxy b Hermes
2) Peluchin I & Peluchin II DQ Guerrero Escarlata & Rey Guerrero

5) El Brazo, Magno, Super Clamato b Ari Romero Jr., Cinta de Oro, Zumbido
6) Ari Romero, Hator, Mr. Niebla b El Hijo Del Santo, Mil Mascaras, Tinieblas Jr.

Romero beat Mil in the main event, and challenged him to put up his IWA Heavyweight Championship. Mil said he’s going to Japan for two weeks, and he’ll ask the IWA commission there if he can.

In the 4th match, Rocky Star destroyed El Increible, yanking off a leg. (It’s a prostetic.)

Between the 3rd and 4th matches, they did a Santo mask giveaway with a local TV personality. Hator confronted the TV person for being in the ring and tore up the mask. Ari Romero ran out for the save, but turned on on the TV guy too. This should air on local TV today.

Mini Hator was filling in for Mascarita Divina and turned on Parkita.

This group is planning on running every other week, so they’re back on September 16th running matches off these results

Ovaciones has an extended interview with Blue Panther about the cage match. He sizes up his competitors and vows to be one of the first out of the cage. He does not plan to retire, should he lose his mask.

You recall the Lucha Libre comic book, already published in Europe and being brought to the US (which, concidentally, ships tommorow?) There’s already a deal to turn it into a movie. Filming would start early next year.

Speaking of remembering things – do you recall Mike Quackenbush’s July interview on Joe Versus the World where he hinted there was some talk with AAA people? Los Chiva Rayadas are working their 09/22 Cibernetico show. That’s perfect. (Thanks to Dr. Keith) Never mind. I didn’t figure on TWO teams of soccer playing goats.

In other crossover news, the latest Figure Four Weekly says the next TNA in Mexico show are scheduled for 12/15 at Toreo de Cuatro Caminos and 12/16 at Arena Monterrey. I presume this is also in SuperLuchas, but I haven’t seen it. Anyway, AAA’s planning on running Guerra de Titanes on 12/16 at Toreo, the very next day, so there are going to be issues. TNA’s talking about using Park, Demon and Santo, but I’ll believe it when it happens.

Box Y Lucha #2834 features the four individual feuds in the cage match (which are more interesting than the cage itself), and the funeral for Karloff Lagarde.

  1. The Chivas in Chikara are not Mexican. I’m all for kayfabe in this day and age but to outright steal a gimmick from another promotion (no matter how important or unimportant it is) is kinda scummy. Especially when they are passed off as the real Chivas. What’s to stop them from bringing in Abismo Negro against Mistico on their next show? It’s no different than the fraud Super Luchas pointed out a few weeks back where someone ran a show with Santo and Demon using scrubs under the masks. Not a bright day for Chikara, a promotion I usually enjoy.

  2. Maybe they got permission by the Chivas owner? Actually, it seems as if they got some heat (I mean AAA Chivas) since they changed the look a big.

  3. I don’t believe CHIKARA created the Los Chivas characters. From what I understand, they have been around for a little while.

IIRC, they were billed as “Los Chivas Guadalajara.” (not 100% sure, since it’s been a couple weeks since the shows) Isn’t that different than the “real” Chivas workers?

CHIKARA is full of kayfabed Luchadors. Los Ice Creams are not trained by Bobby Lee. Equinox is not from Tacula, Mexico. Lince Dorado, I believe, is Hispanic, but not Mexican.

I think Skyade and Sicodelico Jr. may be the only “authentic” luchadors booked regularly in the promotion.

(I guess this is also why Cubs didn’t run the results when I sent them a few weeks ago after the shows.)

  4. Pantera as well.

I’m aware Chikara is full of kayfabed luchadors. That’s why I have no problem when they say “Equinox from Mexico” is coming in. There is no Equinox in Mexico and one look at how he wrestles and you know he wasn’t trained (or trained in Mexico for that matter).;)

I just think it’s scummy to say “Los Chivas Rayadas from AAA” are coming in. It’s just false advertising even if only 2 or 3 people really care or will notice.

Then again – I haven’t seen the actual press release or whatever Chikara did to announce the Chivas would be appearing. I’m just going by what cubs wrote. (and is now crossed out)

  5. >(I guess this is also why Cubs didn’t run the results
    >when I sent them a few weeks ago after the shows.)

Nah, I meant to, and didn’t get a chance till they I thought they were too old to be of news value.

  6. >Then again – I haven’t seen the actual press release or whatever Chikara did to announce the
    >Chivas would be appearing. I’m just going by what cubs wrote.

ha ha, “people sending me press releases.” Dr. Keith had a line in his e-mail newsletter of indy lineups

“TORNEO CIBERNETICO~!: Lince Dorado’s Technico Squad (Lince Dorado, Las Chivas Rayadas (Chiva #1 & Chiva #2) , TBA, TBA, TBA, TBA, TBA) vs. Mitch Ryder Rudo Squad (Mitch Ryder, Shayne Hawke, Chris Hero, TBA, TBA, TBA, TBA, TBA) -”

and that’s where I saw it. More research says CHIKARA is promoting the team as Chiva #2 and Chiva #3, so I think it could be possible that it’s Gran Apache II and Someone Else, though the masks look different. I probably should actually contact people to figure out what’s going on for once.

  7. Great chance the Mexican National Trios Titles will be defended on the anniversary show against either Olimpico/Sangre Azteca/Toscano or Aguila/666/Garza

  8. Oh yeah, I forgot Pantera.

The funny thing about him (and this may have been discussed here before) is that he works in his mask in CHIKARA (and I think most places outside of Mexico).\

There’s also La Parkita and Payaso del Futuro, but I’m still trying to blot out that match from my memory.

  9. La Parkita might actually be the original Parkita who works lots of indy shots in Mexico and has been to the Chicago lucha scene. I need to check on that as well.

Apache II is definitely not going to be under the Chiva hood. I did some DVDVR reading and someone said it’s two guys from VA doing a tribute gimmick although that sounds suspicious.

As for Pantera, I’m pretty sure he’s trying the old trick of thinking he can con an American into giving him money for a mask match even though he lost the mask already. If this were 10 years ago and he was working for a promoter without the internet it may have worked.

  10. The Chivas in AAA have gone through so many gimmick changes that it’d be impossible to list everyone under the masks. The most recent tag team incarnation (as late as March ’07) has been ex-unmasked futbolers Chamagol and Nino De Oro.

  11. I spoke to one of the guys currently working the Chivas gimmick after a show in the Carolinas which is where they mostly work. He is a Mexican American, I have no idea about the other guy. They were literally given the gimmicks by someone at AAA with their blessing the last time AAA ran a show in Atlanta (I think it was Atlanta – the guy I spoke to was someone involved with the show). I actually figured they bought the gimmicks off of them but according to him they just gave them to him so that there would be Chivas in the US (maybe it was old gear/masks?) So I don’t if its considered authentic or not since theres been millions of guys working the gimmick anyway. I guess as long as they don’t advertise them as the original Chivas?

  12. That story sounds awful fishy. AAA has never run Atlanta unless I’m forgetting something. Cubs?

If they did run into an ex-Chiva worker who had the gear (which is pretty much impossible so nobody under the masks works outside of Mexico), there’s always the chance they got conned into paying a ton of money to supposedly “officially” take on a gimmick. But this is like the most far out theory I can come up with.

Like I said, my problem is not with the fact they are using the gimmick. It’s that they are being advertised as from the AAA promotion. What’s stopping Chikara from running a Super Fly/Nemesis vs Pegasso/Rey Cometa match on their next show and just putting the Ants and Ice Cream dudes under Highspots-bought masks?

  13. They have never run here. Gary Juster was the only one to promote here and he used EMLL/Indy guys and definitely no Chivas.

  14. AAA TV just announced that the show at El Toreo is coming up next Oct 7!!! I wonder if this is besides Guerra de Titanes but I would say GdT will be held somewhere else.
