08/31: CMLL spots shows, Japan

CMLL (THU) 08/30 Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca [Dark Atlantis @ El Martinete]
1) El Cholo & Vampiro Metalico b Antares & Linterna Verde
2) Euforia, Loco Max, Skandalo b Celestial, Robin, Stuka Jr.
3) La Mascara, Mascara Purpura, Valiente b Dr. X, Misterioso II, Nitro
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Sombra, Volador Jr. DQ Euforia, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero

Euforia worked double to replace Toscano. Ultimo fouled Wagner, and they did the deal where the referee counted the pin, then awarded the DQ. Celestial worked as a non-mini and is apparently feuding with Skandalo. Attendance was said to be not good.

CMLL Rayo de Plata (THU) 08/30 Feria Nacional Potosina [El Mojado @ el martiene]
1) Tiger Boy & Tomahawk b Camaleon & Genesis
2) ?, Black Fanatasy, Fuerza Maligna, Sabu Jr. DCO Futuro 2000, Lover Boy, Muerte Sagrada, Rayo de Plata Jr.
3) Emilio Charles Jr., Texano Jr., Virus b Felino, Leono, Super Nova
4) Blue Panther, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas b Ephesto, Mephisto, Universo 2000

There’s lots of photos at the link, and a story about everyone mocking Leono.

Both Ovaciones and ESTO do stories from the press conference. When you step back and think about it, CMLL actually booked a press conference to put out the message “most of our wrestlers are disappointed with the anniversary main event” AND they’re teasing much bigger matches they’re unlikely to deliver to drill that first point home. That’s a unique method of selling things.

ESTO’s article mentions Dr. Wagner is “totally recovered.” Elsewhere, Villano IV hopes to be back at the end of October or early November.

LUCHA IN JAPAN

Super Luchas

Mecha Mummy as Jushin Lyger

AAA in NOAH (Green Destiny)
08/31: Rocky Romero, Antifaz, Histeria b Oriental, Laredo Kid, Akihiko Ito [Romero beat Ito]

CMLL in Michinoku Pro (KrisZ, Super Luchas)
08/30: Olimpico b Super Shisa [Fukumen World League, torneo, 1st]
08/30: Atlantis b Super Delfin [Fukumen World League, torneo, 1st]
08/30: Ultimo Dragon b Great Sasuke [Fukumen World League, torneo, 1st]

08/31: Olimpico vs Yoshitsune [Fukumen World League, torneo, qf]
08/31: Atlantis vs Tiger Mask IV [Fukumen World League, torneo, qf]
08/31: Jushin Liger vs Ultimo Dragon [Fukumen World League, torneo, qf]

This seems like a wacky tournament, so I think Atlantis actually has a chance to move on. (Superluchas has video of Atlantis hanging out in Japan.) Yoshitsune is the last Michinoku Pro guy left standing and Olimpico is Olimpico, so I don’t have much hope there.

Super Luchas is in Japan for the next few days to cover this show, AAA and probably other stuff, so I’d keep an eye on their site.

Strong Style Spirit has a summary of a NJPW interview with Hirooki Goto, who talks about his time in Mexico a bit. Sounds like the NWA International Junior Heavyweight Title is dead already. I keep forgetting to note this here, but Kazuchika Okada has also started in NJPW; he worked on the Toryumon Gym shows and occasional spot shows with other members of that gym.

Silver King is on the next AJPW tour.

AAA/CMLL Friday Preview

Medio Tiempo
Ultimo Guerrero, PROfessional wrestler

Both CMLL and AAA have TV Tapings today.

CMLL (FRI) 08/31 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Tony Rivera vs Arkangel de la Muerte & Nitro
2) Fabian El Gitano, Mascara Purpura, Valiente vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Shigeo Okumura
3) Felino, Heavy Metal, Sagrado vs Ephesto, Texano Jr., Virus
4) Blue Panther, Negro Casas, Sombra vs Averno, Lizmark Jr., Mephisto
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza, Villano V vs Tozcano, Último Guerrero, Universo 2000

ESTO’s preview focuses on Universo 2000’s return. This is what passes as a major story for this card. Ovaciones just runs the lineup, writing more about the press conference.

Panther, Lizmark and Ultimo should kinda be in the same match if we’re meant to believe that’ll be the main event at the anniversary show. I guess alternate plans get set up here.

AAA is in a bullring in Moroleon.

AAA TV (FRI) 08/31 Plaza de Toros Moroleon
1) Aero Star, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Alfa, Gran Apache, Toxico AAA
2) Cinthia Moreno & Estrellita vs Ayako Hamada & Kaoru Ito
3) Alan Stone, Chris Stone, Super Calo vs ?, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido
4) Alebrije, el Ángel, Extreme Tiger, Tinieblas Jr. vs Cuervo, Escoria, Espíritu, Ozz
5) Cibernetico & La Parka Jr. vs El Mesias & Kenzo Suzuki

There’s been little buzz for Zumbido and Scorpio’s partner. I think everyone’s presuming Shocker has jumped back to AAA. He hasn’t been listed on a show since the first week of July and hasn’t been mentioned much in that time. Shocker leaving CMLL to go to AAA was a much bigger deal two years ago, and he has nowhere near the momentum after his diminished performances. Hopefully he’ll finally get back on track, but it’s smart move by AAA to not just catapult him back to the top.

Elsewise, we’ve got a lot of random filler, as everyone who’s heading to Japan besides Cibernetico (and backstage types) have been left off this card. The main event is typical, but there’s stuff on the undercard you don’t normally see: Gran Apache and crew vs the lesser Air Force, the first women’s match since June without Fabi, Tinieblas Jr.’s continued existence and so on. This may be Angel’s first match back from the Warped Tour, and it should be his first TV appearance since Feburary.
