05/26 TV notes

CMLL CAN52 GdR #79 has
05/20: Brillante, Mascara Purpura Apocalipsis, Mictlan vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
05/18: Dr. Wagner & Marco Corelone vs Atlanits & Ultimo Guerrero

AAA is airing the scheduled match, though my listed order is way off it appears. They’re very much into doing backstage skits this week.

CMLL Main Show seems to have

05/20: Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico Kid Tiger, Tony Rivera vs Dr. X, Hooligan, Nitro
05/25: Averno vs Ephesto, Virus, Texano Jr., Leono, Loco Max, Valiente, Sagrado, Heavy Metal, Black Warrior [ciber, LdP]
05/25: Dr. Wagner Jr., Lizmark Jr., Mistico vs Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Terrible

Did I get the right Tigre there? I’m tired.

Arturo Rivera is back commentating because the tapings don’t conflict this week.

Matches are just filler for the Perro Los Cinco Magnificos video packages this week, it seems.

  1. *LMAO* Only thing worse than Apocalipsis as a rudo is Apocalipsis as a tecnico. He’s just a short little fat guy who can’t even jump a foot off the ground! That oughta be hilarious to watch.:)

I’m glad they aired the main event instead of the match with the horrible Japanese guys.

  2. Well that match was quite the disappointment after the pretty good first fall.

Kid Tiger wasn’t exactly going out his way to impress – then again i suppose he doesn’t need to as his family connections will get him to wherever he wants to go.

Rivera’s attempt at a frog splash was almost embarrassing, but i’ll let him off after that somersault plancha where he almost went into orbit.

Holligan looked streets ahead of the other 2 rudos. I normally like Dr Eckees as well.

  3. Yeah, that was an awful opener. I like how Nitro doesn’t ever look to break a sweat in any match he is in. I should have been doing something else than sitting through 9 minutes of commercials during that 7 minute match.

    Momentos was crappy.

    That promo by Leono was INTENSE! “Hey Mr. Aguila… I’m gonna beat you… or something… because… uhm… *yawn*… I’m Leono… and… uhm… you’re an eagle… I’m a lion… uhhh… *yawn*”

Why are we airing the lame battle royale?

  4. So the new theme is “vote for Perrito even if Mr. Aguila is in his place!” They aren’t even asking for people to call for Aguila!

  5. The last spot of the Torneo basically sums up the entire match aside from Virus and Valiente.

Virus is making a strong run for wrestler of the year thus far. He is so worlds ahead of everyone else it’s kind of embarassing for all of them.

I’m very sad nobody who hasn’t seen the Valiente/Virus finish from the Luchas 2000 show won’t get the genius of Valiente’s elimination this week.:(

  6. “Virus is making a strong run for wrestler of the year thus far. He is so worlds ahead of everyone else it’s kind of embarassing for all of them.”

Ah fuck, you’ve stole my thunder, i was just coming on with a rant about that :( :D

    He’s downright amazing!

I actually thought the torneo was pretty good. Loads of nearfalls for a change and it kept moving at a fast pace. Airing in full and not at the first elimination helped it. If only Volador and Stuka were in with Virus and Valiente.

Did the Luchas 2000 show make tape then? or have you just saw a clip from a camera-phone or something?

  7. It’ll be out on DVD down the road but someone on the Mexican forums put up a compliation of the better moments from the show which had a bunch of stuff from the Torneo including the finish which had Virus toss Valiente into the air – he landed on the top rope, then backflipped off right into an armdrag and rolled right into his finisher! He was trying to do it again today but Virus stopped him halfway through and used his own armlock to get the win!

This is the type of psychology that the average Mexican fan wouldn’t understand even if you explained it to them. It’s also the type of thing Virus always used to do as Damiancito which led to him to be stuck in openers for all his life since he made everyone look awful in comparison.:(

  8. Yeah, i kinda figured from your description that that was the finish.

Really pleased that we’ll get a chance to see that torneo and Voladors/Misteriosos at some point!

Tell you what else was cool about that torneo (and this is just me being a geek with minor things like attires)….

    RENCOR LAVERNO~! :)

  9. hehehe Yeah that was pretty great. And Efesto wrestled 100% like Safari so he should have put on the half/half mask as well!

  10. They should do a cibernetico one of these days with everybody bringing back previous gimmicks for one night. See how many your average fan recognises :)

Man, this is going to be a farce – you can clearly see that Mistico is fucked before the match has even started, he can’t even raise or straighten his arm. Give the guy 3 or 4 months off and let him recover!

  11. I guess we’re in for a full summer of main events where Mistico has one arm and Perrito has one leg.:) Those old fans of the promotion with handicapped wrestlers from Japan will be thrilled.

  12. Haha – Dogs Legs or something. :)

Can you remember which forums that Luchas 2000 highight video was on Rob?

I’m gonna try and search for it, and hope it’s put up on something similar to youtube as opposed to one of those download sites that expire after 7 days?

  13. Fair play to Mistico, he still managed to work through it without being too limited. HE’S HARDCORE! :)

Can’t be too good for the recovery though, if he keeps that up he’ll never get over it.

    Impressive tope by Doc too.

  14. Just realised that the 3 match show went 2hrs 25 minutes.

Advertising for this game show or not, that’s just ridiculous :(

  15. Super Calo and Apache make an awesome team. Can’t wait for those matches with Fuerza Arera.

I liked the Zorro reveal. He doesn’t look like a rapist like I thought he would. It will be interesting to see him in Hell brothers.

I know hate is a strong strong word but I F’n Hate the mexican powers. I know I say it all the time but god damn. They are an embarrassment to Lucha Libre. Especially Lider. I guess he’s everyones favorite mistake.

And the japanesse guys aren’t horrible. They are just doing what CMLL’s new mission statement is. CMLL: Mail it in.

  16. You know I’m really liking the new AAA format of showing even the opening match that is usually the dark match. Right now they have the mini’s tag from 5/20 that I thought had no chance for TV.

  17. I think they’re building to a Mini Histeria/Mascarita Divina stips match there.

  18. This upcoming airforce match had better be much better than that shit they put together last week! :)

  19. The Divina/Histeria finish wasn’t really a martinete. He gave him the old Spinal Shock move (EZ Money in ECW) and nobody treated it as anything dangerous until Divina got stretchered. Didn’t seem like an angle but you never know…

Payasos Diabolicos look so cool but their debut was pretty awful. Are they the old Piratas group?

I think this Air Force match will be great just b/c Rey Cometa is in and looking to impress. Plus Super Fly can wrestle this week!

  20. Geez… that was 7 minutes of balls to the wall high flying. Might as well have called it a last man standing match. Did you guys see Aero Star tope of (literally) DEATH? How he got up from that I’ll never know. I guess Super Fly was still hurt but they covered for it nicely as at least he was still involved but didn’t do anything insane. Cometa looked awesome and so did Calo.

With 3 matches left, all of which promising in their own ways – this has the makings of one of the better TV tapings in a while.

  21. Well it was better.

Still not great, but an improvement on last week, and a decent sprint with the usual great dives.

Super Fly was obviously less than 100%. You knew right from the start when he didn’t do his usual backflip into the ring.

Trust me to miss the very week these guys were meant to have had a real blowaway, amazing spotfest.

  22. Does anybody know where the ARENA SOLIDARIDAD in MONTERREY is located? I mean, the address. Thanks.

  23. Cubs: 6/8 in Cozumel, 6/10 in Merida and 6/17 in Toluca (YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) are the next tapings. I predict right now 6/17 Toluca will have a cage match between the Fuerza Aerea/Apache’s group.

BTW Henrik, re: your Mascara Purpura hate – Maybe you just need to see some Monterrey stuff with him. He seems to step up his game there. Yesterday I was watching him as Rey Azteca and he did a CRAZY dive onto Garza where he ran so fast and lept over the top rope with a corkscrew plancha (didn’t even use the ropes for help!) overshooting Garza and almost smashing his face on the guardrail!

  24. I don’t hate him, i just hate how dull, robotic and repetitive he is in CMLL! And i don’t like how he has so much agility, but he only ever uses it for pointless shit like entering the ring, instead of actual dives. He only ever does that one shitty somersault dive that half the roster use.

And he’s got that awkward, lanky look about him like he’s always one step away from fucking up. :)

Was it an Aguila corkscrew plancha with a somersault (WM14) or just your standard Mistico/Leono/Sombra De Plata one?. He needs to be hitting more corkscrewy moonsaulty-shit :-p

I did see one spot of his a few months back that was pretty cool though – he was out on the floor and kinda ran & done a sideways roll along the ring apron to assist him in a headscissors onto his opponent who was also on the floor. hard to explain but was pretty neat.

  25. He does tornillos also! This dive was Garza style except instead of doing it off the top rope like Garza, he ran and jumped over the ropes while doing it.:P I thought it was pretty nuts.

  26. So it was almost like an over the top corkscrew tope as opposed to a ‘sideways’ dive?

    “He does tornillos also”

    Yeah – once a year :(

He needs to be hitting Aguila style top rope tornillo moonsaults and the WM14 running somersault tornillo as he’s shown he has the agility to do all that shit. :D

And they’re probably my 2 favourite dives anyway – i can’t even bring myself to totally hate Extreme Tiger so long as he’s hitting that corkscrew moonsault – and his isn’t even very photogenic :)

  27. After watching Accion, Ryan Shamrock takes a pretty sick bump with X-pac through a table. Except the table doesn’t really break and she hits the side of it. She’s still hot so that’s good. Big improvement from that man beast chyna for Pac.

What’s the deal with Suzuki pinning Intocable clean? Is this leading to a Suzuki/Intocable hair match?

  28. I’m wondering if Toluca is the building Robert is thinking about. AAA is pretty much doing everything outdoors, or in domed toreos to accommodate their lighting system. Basically they’re running venues where they don’t have to worry about “rigging points” on the ceiling to hang lighting. But I hope they are running the gymnasium, and not some bullring or baseball stadium. Didn’t AAA just have some kind of fiasco with a local promoter in Toluca?

Ryan Shamrock took a nice bump in Monterrey as well.

Sorry Miguel, no address on Solidaridad. Check the newspaper elnorte the day of the show. They cover Soli pretty good.

  29. AAA’s June taping in Toluca is at the baseball stadium instead of the usual Gimnasio Agustin Millan. Jesus Zuniga made sure to point that out when the card was announced on TV yesterday.
