Air Date

US: 06/09

Lots of injury/missing subs.

Main event was change to a pairs tag, with other people dropping down to fill in below (Kenzo) or out selling injuries (Charly – who ended up interfering anyway to help his team win.)

Alliens filled in for Mr. Niebla in the semimain (no reason given.) Abismo beat Porky with a top rope splash.

When the title match ended, the Sect were announced as winners. One had snuck in a foul for the winning pinfall, “which all had seen, except Hijo de Tirantes”. Joaquin Roldan overturned the decision, declaring the Sect must win the titles cleanly or not at all – this counts as not as all, so the Mexican Powers are still champions (and still together.) I guess this explains why these two teams were scheduled to rematch next week, and perhaps that’ll become another title match.

Kenzo replaced Muerte, who’s left shoulder was hurt from his match last week.

Segunda was changed to a rematch of the previous week (Calo added, Pegasso and Aero Star replacing Cometa.) Apache beat Laredo Kid with a superplex. Laredo sure takes a lot of pinfalls for the pushed member of the group. Super Fly was hurt during the match.

Path Finder (II) and Takeda replaced Aero Star and Orion.

Next Tapings
05/20 Morelia
– 05/26 Minatitlan, Veracruz
– 05/30 San Luis Potosi

  1. This whole Zorro un-masks story has turned out to be a huge dissapointment. So much intest and intregue only for him to grow an ugly beard and join forces with the Hell Borthers. Wow 10 months for that.

It was Charly Manson who put that mask on him in the first place, and now he’s his buddy.

Damm Konnan and his Vince Russo style booking where all angles are just stupid and pointless

  2. What the problem Daniel? Zorro turned. If they played the angle out in a few weeks, you’d be complaining that the angle played-out too fast. Why do you have such a hard-on for Konnan? AAA has been better than it’s been in quite some time.

  3. RE:luchalibreenvivo

I’m not complaining that the angle took too long I’m complaining that all this anticipations was wasted on something stupid.

How can you say AAA is the best it’s been? It went from being a reputible and entertaining show to a trailor park, garbage wrestling indy league. Are you just praising this to go against the grain, or do you have a fetish for crappy wrestling?

Rob, I’ll agree that we should wait to see how this actually plays out on TV, as simply reading the results does not always capture the effect..

  4. Daniel,

For those in the “know”, AAA is crappy wrestling. If you watch it closely, it’s not so bad anymore. Their storylines at least make sense. They’re usually based on in-depth developing storylines, instead of guys just tearing their opponents mask until a stip match is issued. AAA built anticipation around the removal of Zorro’s mask. Of course he grew a beard-the gimmick was that he could not take the mask off. AAA followed through on a storyline for 10 months, and it makes total sense that Zorro would have an ugly beard. AAA’s undercard is not that bad these days.

Explain to us what AAA angles are stupid and pointless.

  5. Daniel,

    And furthermore………..

How can you compare AAA to an indy league? Look at those crowds. They are the best I’ve seen in a long time. Angles, workrate, and production in AAA have increased across the board.

  6. Mexican Powers/Secta is horrible and boring. I don’t really blame La Secta but Joe Lider and Crazy boy are just horrible. Same thing with Porky and the never ending feud with Los Guapos. I like the Guapos but Porky shouldn’t be allowed to wrestle.

I know the Hell Brothers are over like fuck but the matches with Kenzo and Banderas just bore me.

Of course like Robert always says, We are in america and don’t matter. Mexican’s like different things than I do so whatever. I just wish Galavision would air both CMLL and AAA.

  7. The Mexican Powers are 100% backyard crap but they’re over. Even if you hate them you have to admit that. The crowd cheers for them and anticipates their entrance. At least it’s not guys who aren’t over being put out there to do stupid shit. I don’t expect Crazzy Boy/Joe Lider to go anywhere b/c Konnan will always have the ’96 ECW phase in his heart and he thinks it’s still in for these guys to be hurting their opponents with stupid gimmicks and wild moves gone wrong.

That’s the great thing with AAA having 3 hours… there’s something for everyone. Don’t like Guapos stuff? Turn away for 30 minutes-ish. Don’t like the Secta/HB stuff? Turn the show off before the main event.

AAA is pure gold right now (even though I liked early ’06 better).

  8. For every Mexican powers match, there’s a great moving on angle with Apaches/Billy Boy/Sexy Starr.

  9. If there’s one problem with AAA having 3 hours, it’s that they show too many replays to fill time. Even if a move is botched, or nothing special, we’ll see it as many as three times. But it’s better than having good stuff edited out b/c producers feel there is not enough time, which was once the case before AAA had three hours.

Hey Robert, those are strong words for the Mexican Powers. I know you must have one of their jersey’s.

I agree with you 100% Tim. Galavision should get both groups, not one. But Televisa’s relationship with Univision is strained. You have to pick your fights, and no one at Univision is going to start one for Lucha Libre. They have a court date in September, and if Televisa wins, they’re starting their own network in the US. Don’t you like CMLL on Fox Sports?

  10. I forgot Tim. That’s right. You’re the guy with Darkhouse, I mean Brighthouse. The do suck. They make you buy through the digital tier to get Fox Sports Esapanol. First you have to buy digital, than pay another $3.00 a month for Spanish stations.

Hey Cubs, how did everything play out on your Comcast system? Are you still getting FSE as basic/digital? And is that WWO stuff still on Telemundo on Sunday?

  11. Daniel,

Right now AAA has gotten it’s act together, and if it wasn’t for some guy named Mistico, they would pass EMLL in popularity (if they haven’t done that).

  12. RE:luchalibreenvivo

Yeah I would expect Zorro to have a beard the first time he took the mask off, but to keep the beard taping after taping is no excuse. He could shave now that the mask is off.

You ask what’s stupid in AAA right now:

-The fact that the Hell Brothers are being shoved down our throats despite crowds not being that into them anymore

-The fact that the LLL name had been downplayed inf favor of the Secta and Legion Extrengera

-AAA Main events usually involve groups that are supposedly not part of AAA

-Mexican Powers are losers and the should not be faces

-Konnan has taken away AAA’s unique style in his attempt to make AAA more like Vince Russo’s WCW.

-I compare it to an Indy show due to the fact that they are pushing “no-stars” like just about everybody in the foreighn legion, Charly Manson, etc.
And AAA now has a trailor park feel becasue of that….TLhat’s why it’s like a backyard/indy show.

AAA was at it’s best from 2001 to late 2005. Until Konnan stops booking it will probably get worse.

  13. Konnan has his faults for sure but I’ve been generally happy with AAA since Pena’s death and as their #1 fanboy, even I was expecting to do a huge 180. Konnan hasn’t completely changed everything which is nice since AAA was fine the way it was. I do worry for the future though. 3 things in particular:

    1) Konnan values the import talent more than the regular guys.

    2) Konnan’s fascination with creating a new Rey Misterio Jr. (which is impossible in the first place) and it needing to be Extreme Tiger since he’s from Tijuana.

    3) Konnan remembering the ’96 ECW days and using the Mexican Powers as the guy who get to destroy everyone in hardcore matches.

  14. “The fact that the Hell Brothers are being shoved down our throats despite crowds not being that into them anymore”

That is so not true. They Cheer Charly, Chessman and Cibernetico every time they come out there, and if you notice more Hell Brother t-shirts in the crowd than anything.

  15. Daniel. Pushing “no stars” is the only way to create stars. A smart promotion takes chances on nobodies, instead of rehashing the same talent while preventing new stars from rising. This is not a fault of AAA, but one of their strong points.

Hellbrothers “shoved down” everyones throat? Ciber has to be in a strong group to protect his weaknesses. It was like that before Konnan, and will always be like that.

“Downplaying” LLL? So what. The gimmick ran it’s course. If it were still around, people would be complaining that it’s stale and should be dropped. LLL was created so Pena could promote shows in big US arenas and on PPV without Televisa’s permission as they own the trademark. It was also created in case Televisa dropped AAA(both groups were in danger of losing Televisa coverage at one time) so Pena could go to another network, with a trademark alread established.

  16. RE:luchalibreenvivo!

Pushing “no-stars” is stupid. That’s why WCW, ECW, and countless other promotions have gone out of business. It’s been proven that established stars are the ones who draw money at arena’s and PPV. Nobody will pay good money to watch somebody they don’t care about. It’s that simple. You can come up with all the dirt sheet arguments you want but you can’t argue with facts.

While the real stars shine, the lower guys are developed in the under card. If or when they are ready they will be bumped up. That’s the smart way to do it, and that’s how succesful companies do it.

So according to your logic the Yankees should go to a local high school and recruit all the kids on the baseball team and put them on the starting line up of the Yankees, since those kids are the future of baseball right?

If the Hell Brothrs were so over with the crowd then why is it that Arturo Rivera has to prod the crowd into chanting the “ole ole ole ole..Ciber, Ciber” chant and even so, the crowd hardly does it. If they were that over with the crowd they wouldn’t need Rivera to do it.

Remember a few weeks ago with the Bull Terry match between LaParka, Cibernetico, and Kenzo Suzuki? When La Parka came out the crowd errupted. When Ciber came out it was a dull roar. When Kenzo came out nobody cared. So why is it that most main events are fought over Hell Brothers and the Legion??? Because Konnan is stupid.

And for your information “PAP” was created as the back up trademark in the event of Televisa dropping AAA. The LLL name was used for certain events to creat interest. It was like nWo Sould Out. The LLL name was cool like the nWo, and now it’s being watered down just like the nWo was.

  17. PAP was created back in 1995. Televisa decided they could no longer bankroll AAA, so Pena was on his own, and was forced to incorporate. PAP was to AAA what Titan Sports was to WWF or JCP was to NWA. When did you ever see someone challenge for a PAP title? Or a house show billed exclusively as PAP? Never.

You have to push new talent. You have to create your own stars. It’s all about taking chances on new talent. History has shown this to be true many times in wrestling. The process of becoming an established star starts somewhere. AAA should be given credit for pushing Elegido, Sexy Star, Billy Boy, etc…..

How can anyone compare the New York Yankees to Lucha Libre or wrestling? One is sport, the other is entertainment. But since you bring up the Yankees, they are the best example in baseball of a team that has a weak farm system, and can no longer create their own stars. Instead, they hire stars from other teams. The result? Their last Series victory was in 2000 only because they got lucky that the Mets beat Atlanta. Today, the Yankees are a joke, and Clemens will only add to the laughter. They continue to sign big names from other teams while being unable to make their own star players.

House shows and PPV’s sometimes fail with big stars. Look at TNA. They keep signing and signing and no one has made an impact in ratings or PPV’s. And Hulk Hogan bombed in Memphis with big ad budget behind him. That’s why I think he’ll give AAA a shot. It’s the only place in North America where he can play to huge crowds and try to take credit for it.

Daniel. Why do you think Konnan is so bad for AAA? The company is trending up. What is he doing wrong in your eyes?

  18. LLL had nothing to do with NWO. Nothing at all. Pena was planning a backup plan in 1994, long before NWO, even though the mentality among wrestling fans is that AAA just copies from the US, and is never ahead of a trend.

Proof? PROMELL was introduced on TV in spring of 1995, a full year before NWO. When Fuerza quit, the gimmick was totally dropped. Pena created LLL out of necessity, just like Vince created WWE when there was a problem with the WWF trademark. Same thing happened with the WWWF trademark. When Willie Gilzenburg died, the Vince’s created WWF. Vince Jr. is credited with dropping a W to shorten the name for appeal, when they were really trying to fuck Willie’s wife over by creating a different company. But that’s another story.

  19. RE:luchalibreenvivo!

I’ve already cited specific examples of why Konnan is doing a bad job. In short AAA was unique and awesome before he returned in 2005. Unfortunatley he came back after being influenced by Vince Russo in the US, and now he’s fucking up AAA the same way Russo fucked up WCW and indirectly ruined wrestling in North America. My fear is that this trend will get worse and eventyally put AAA out of business.

I never said Pena copied nWo, I’m saying that LLL is like the nWo. As far as the story line is concerned it is the same concept regardless who came up with the concept first.

I’m glad you mentioned Hogan because if you go back to Summerslam 2005, his main event match with Shawn Michaels, was built up properly and that ppv was the most succesfull ppv of the year aside from Wrestlemania. Why?? Because it involved two established stars who sold the story properly.

TNA tries to make stars out of guys with no star potential and they will remains a small time company becasue of that. You will never see Samoa Joe, or Christian Cage generate the kind of money that Hogan and Shawn did.

I’ll agree with you that pushing Elegido and Sexy Star is a good idea because those two have star qualities. (I’ll disagree with Billy Boy)

I wouldn’t mind the feud between the Hell Brothers and Konnan’s army if it wasn’t the main event every week. The main problem is that it’s a heel vs heel feud. (Yes the Hell Brothers are heels. Look what they did to Elegido and La Parka.) Good vs bad is interesting. Bad vs Bad is boring when you see it every week.

You’ll notice it’s always the same old story. Run ins, bad catch phrases, and Satan worshiping. That’s not good wrestling that’s stupidity.

  20. You’re right. It’s always the same old story. In just about all wrestling groups that is. RAW starts with someone doing promo that’s interrupted by someone and they end up in the main event later that evening. CMLL is mostly mask-tearing and hair challenges because two guys “concentrate” on each other during the match for no reason. AAA is run-ins, promos, and behind the scenes storylines.

I know you don’t like Legion Extranjera vs. HB every week. But that’s how TV is done in AAA. They run big venues, so they run with “all the stars” in most cases to attract a sellout. They think they have to announce a lineup to get the biggest gate possible. They won’t take a chance and just say, “TV TAPING for Galavision- See HB, Legion Extranjera, La Parka, Elegido, Super Porky, Viper’s, Guapos VIP, Faby Apache, Sexy Star and more”. As a result, we see similar matches for quite some time. And you’re 100% right about the heel vs. heel feuds. It does need to take a rest.

  21. Hell Brothers vs Legion is not main eventing every show, the Manson/Chessman tag with Ciber as second vs a Legion team with Konnan as second was the semifinal, about a week earlier, Manson/Chessman vs Secta was even below semis, and even at Rey de Reyes, the HB vs Steiner and Co. was not main eventing to Parka and Octagon.

  22. RE: Chui

MOST of the time Legion vs Hell Brothers is the main event. When Latin Lover made his in-ring return his match should have been the last one, but instead the Hell Brothers were in the main event. Who the hell cares about that when big star makes his comeback.

  23. Why push Lover? He does not tour regularly with AAA. Hell Brothers are a much bigger draw than Lover right now. Lover may be a mainstream celebrity, but in Lucha, he is not such a draw. I remember when Lover returned to the ring with Konan Big vs. Mesias/Chessman in his hometown and it bombed. What city are you in Daniel? Maybe you can catch AAA on Warped Tour.

  24. RE:luchalibreenvivo!

You ask what city I live in? Well I ask you which alternate universe you live in if you think the Hell Brothers are a lot more over than Latin Lover, or if you actually think people would rather pay money to see the Hell Brothers than Latin Lover.

When Latin Lover made his in-ring return the crowd went nuts, and then were dead for the Hell Brother/Legion main event. Why do you think on that week “Accion” covered the Latin Lover match even though it wasn’t the “main event”?? Becasue even the guys at Televisa knew that his match was a lot more important.

Don’t get me wrong, Hell Brothers would make great heels but trying to build the company around them as heros is just stupid. Recall last week when it was Chessman and Charly Manson vs the Secta, you could hear a pin drip when Charly and Chessman came out. You will never hear a pin drop when Latin Lover comes out. EVER!

Just another piece of evidence to support how big of a draw Latin Lover is, is the fact that they created an immitator (Elegido) when they thought he would never come back.

  25. You ask what city I live in? Well I ask you which alternate universe you live in if you think the Hell Brothers are a lot more over than Latin Lover, or if you actually think people would rather pay money to see the Hell Brothers than Latin Lover.
    ****************************************************

Cool promo you cut on me!

AAA did not create Elegido. He was doing that gimmick in a local arena in Monterrey that AAA guys worked on. He’s getting over huge and even kids and young males are wearing that mask, which kind of surprised me since guys should not like that gimmick. I don’t know how much of a draw Lover is. He’s not on AAA TV often enough to draw. If you’re not on TV, people forget about you. Lover gets a big pop from the fans, especially the girls, but Hell Brothers are the big draw, along with Mesias, and La Parka.

  26. RE:luchalibreenvivo!

Regardless of who came up with Elegido the point is that he immitates Latin Lover.

You do have a point about how Latin Lover should be on more often, but the bottom line is that he is the biggest wrestling star in Mexico. (It’s like how Hulk Hogan hardly ever on anymore but when he shows up he is the main attraction.)

I’ll go as far as to say that Latin Lover is the best wrestler in the world.
