01/19: Mistico, LA Park, Dr. Wagner, Latin Lover

People who’ve seen the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter say Mistico was voted wrestler of the year. (I haven’t seen it.) He’d be the first Mexican wrestler to receive that award.

In today’s Esto, LA Park says the same things about Wagner and Arena Mexico he said Ovaciones earlier in the week. Dr. Wagner, conversely, loves the Arena Mexico fans. This is an easy feud, if only they could do a finish.

Latin Lover talked to Por Esto. Usual interview there. He says he doesn’t like the spectacle of WWE, and the writer notes that Latin Lover isn’t a guy who uses a lot of holds in his matches. Latin may be working the first Friday of February in Tijuana, and I hope he keeps his pants up.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico card:

CMLL (FRI) 01/19 Arena Mexico
1) Mini Olímpico & Último Dragoncito vs Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Magica vs Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Felino, La Máscara, Sagrado vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Casas vs Olímpico, Tarzan Boy, Último Guerrero
5) Dos Caras Jr., Shocker, Universo 2000 vs Atlantis, LA Park, Marco Corelone

So much of the previews are on the Park/Wagner feud, it’s odd that they’re not actually wrestling. They could do Dos/Marco off the main event, they could do Marco/Universo for the title, but they aren’t so why am talking about. Not sure yet if Corelone is back for a long stretch or just the weekend.

It doesn’t seem like they’re yet back in Arena Mexico. I wonder if we’re going to get the usual New Year/Return To Arena Mexico card since they never left? It’d normally be this week, or I guess maybe next.

This is Luna Magica’s first appearance in Arena Mexico in 51 weeks. (Oh, yeah, Dark Angel’s back too.) They’re short on tecnicas this week, with India and Marcela gone/leaving. I’m six months late in noticing, but I’d assume Diana La Cazadora’s out of the group for now, because she has been on TV since June. And Sahori may still be trying to fix her gear.

Might as well preview the AAA card for Saturday

AAA TV (SAT) 01/20 Parque de Beisbol, Guan
1) Cinthia Moreno, Estrellita, Fabi Apache vs Miss Janeth, Rossy Moreno, Tiffany
2) Chris Stone & Hator vs Alliens & Gran Apache and Pegasso & Super Fly and Escoria & Espíritu [AAA TAG, 1st]
3) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis II vs Barba Roja, Drake, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr.
4) Alberije, el Ángel, El Elegido, Laredo Kid vs ?, Abismo Negro, Antifaz del Norte, Histeria
5) Gronda II, Octagón, Super Porky vs Alan Stone, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido

New Viper could be Niebla, though that doesn’t really seem the spot for him. Can he use that gimmick on AAA TV? The whole CMLL Niebla/IWRG Niebla feud was about who really owned the rights to the character. The CMLL won, but that would seem to mean to me that the promotion, not the man under the mask, owns the identity and the man would have to be a new man in AAA. The other names mentioned as possible jumps in the near future – Rayman and Rayo de Jalisco, reunited again – are both guys who make more sense as tecnicos. I guess Canek’s available, but he doesn’t seem to fit either. I think it’s probably another internal recycling job – which is what I thought last month, and then they dropped the whole thing that taping.

You know who’d be fun at the newest Viper? Karis La Momia. (The skeleton is banned for a month, but not the mummy!) He could still have the Mexican Cruiserweight Belt.

GdR stuff probably won’t be till tomorrow evening.

  1. I think it was Parka Jr the one who won the Cruiserweight title, not Karis, but who knows…

Maybe this is not the right time to bring it up, but better than others. Word in the ByL is that Rayman is not Rayo jr’s son, but his wife’s. Still, he sees him like his son, but the one who got angry with Rayman was actually old Rayo Sr, who didn’t allow him to use the Rayo moniker.

Also, in several places, it has been implied that Blue Demon Jr is not actually Blue Demon’s son, this was even mentioned in the newspapers (in a link you provided) around the Nov 2 festivities.

  2. Rayman would be cool in AAA… he’s still a pretty decent worker and would fit in well up top.

    – Bleh.

    2) Chris Stone & Hator vs Alliens & Gran Apache and Pegasso & Super Fly and Escoria & Espíritu [AAA TAG, 1st]

    – AWESOME! No matter what matches they end up doing – AWESOME!

    3) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis II vs Barba Roja, Drake, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr.

    – I guess this will be an angle to get Juventud out of the group.

    4) Alberije, el Ángel, El Elegido, Laredo Kid vs ?, Abismo Negro, Antifaz del Norte, Histeria

    – Feels like they’ve been doing this match since September. … Oh right, they have.

    5) Gronda II, Octagón, Super Porky vs Alan Stone, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido

    – Guapos are usually entertaining so this should be alright.

  3. Arena mex card tonight kind…well….sucks.

From top to bottom, it really doesn’t look very interesting at all. There’s a chance the tercera could be really good, but we’ll probably never see it.

I think i could just about live with that if we get Los Guilerreros, Zayko, Sensei, Flash and Super Nova on TV though! :D

  4. By the way, we’re still doing year end awards here, right? Nothing would please me more than Mistico winning another set of awards to make Phil angry.;)

  5. The fact that there are better luchadors in la Laguna than the WON WOTY proves this is the lucha capital of the world… hehe :)

I wonder what other awards did lucha gathered this year…

  6. Remember the award is based on drawing ability/importance to their promotion. You may not like him as a wrestler but Mistico > anyone from the Laguna right now when it comes to drawing power.

  7. that’s why the
    hehe :)
    were there…

I don’t really know if this is a sign that Lucha has advanced, or wrestling/puro is disappearing…

BTW, have you heard anything about CMLL only having 30 minutes this week?

  8. Well that’s kinda scary. Hate is a strong word to use for someone you’ve never met or spoken to.

  9. “””””
Down year or not, you can’t doubt his credentials.
    “””””

If Perrito got into the top 10 when he was only a draw in Meltzer’s mind and didn’t produce a single half-good match, then I can doubt anything… but I’m in a good mood today, so I won’t really complain… good for Mistico…

Damn!! Didn’t realize today’s Friday and FSE should’ve aired already!!!

  10. CMLL only having 30 minutes on what, Gala? They have a 1:45 block based on the latest TV schedule due to the return of futbol.

The worst episode of CMLL was back in February on the opening weekend of the Olympics… I think it was a 50 minute timeslot for some bizarre reason. Intro, Momentos, Arena Mexico main event, fin. Insane.

  11. I had read something about the NFL game airing on Gala and trimming down CMLL, didn’t even considered the fact that soccer is back as well…

  12. I was wondering if someone could give me a little background information on the history of Billy Boy and Gran Apache. I saw the hair vs hair match and then read that Apache is Boy’s father-in-law. So I would assume that the woman that got involved in that match was Apache’s daughter/Boy’s wife. So if anyone knows, what led up to this match? And what did Boy say after the match? It seemed to be very emotional and was quite the spectacle with his (I assume) his child, covered in his blood. Thank you for any information you could provide me. It would be appreciated.

  13. Well, it’s the typical “Father in law from Hell” angle, AAA did that before with Faby Apache (yes, Apache’s daugther and the one who got involved post match) and Oscar Sevilla.

There’s a slight possibility that Faby and Billy are not married, but it seems for sure that the baby was indeed Billy’s, I don’t think any mother would alow her child to end covered on some stranger’s blood.

  14. Thank you very much Chui for the information. I do not speak any spanish but enjoy watching lucha libre and try to follow what’s going on as much as I can. I like some of AAA’s stories that I can follow. Like the whole Cibernetico/Chessman/Black Family saga. I love the fact that you can watch something in a foreign language and still follow what’s going on. Again, thank you for the information.

  15. Mr. Niebla a Viper… wow. Now he can get as fat as he wants and do even less in the ring as a rudo.

  16. I think it is a transition thing, similar to Shocker/PdM… could lead to a Mr Niebla vs Abismo feud, or even to a Mr Niebla vs Laredo Kid if he indeed stays with Vipers.
