01/19: Mistico, LA Park, Dr. Wagner, Latin Lover

People who’ve seen the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter say Mistico was voted wrestler of the year. (I haven’t seen it.) He’d be the first Mexican wrestler to receive that award.

In today’s Esto, LA Park says the same things about Wagner and Arena Mexico he said Ovaciones earlier in the week. Dr. Wagner, conversely, loves the Arena Mexico fans. This is an easy feud, if only they could do a finish.

Latin Lover talked to Por Esto. Usual interview there. He says he doesn’t like the spectacle of WWE, and the writer notes that Latin Lover isn’t a guy who uses a lot of holds in his matches. Latin may be working the first Friday of February in Tijuana, and I hope he keeps his pants up.

Tonight’s Arena Mexico card:

CMLL (FRI) 01/19 Arena Mexico
1) Mini Olímpico & Último Dragoncito vs Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Magica vs Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Felino, La Máscara, Sagrado vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Casas vs Olímpico, Tarzan Boy, Último Guerrero
5) Dos Caras Jr., Shocker, Universo 2000 vs Atlantis, LA Park, Marco Corelone

So much of the previews are on the Park/Wagner feud, it’s odd that they’re not actually wrestling. They could do Dos/Marco off the main event, they could do Marco/Universo for the title, but they aren’t so why am talking about. Not sure yet if Corelone is back for a long stretch or just the weekend.

It doesn’t seem like they’re yet back in Arena Mexico. I wonder if we’re going to get the usual New Year/Return To Arena Mexico card since they never left? It’d normally be this week, or I guess maybe next.

This is Luna Magica’s first appearance in Arena Mexico in 51 weeks. (Oh, yeah, Dark Angel’s back too.) They’re short on tecnicas this week, with India and Marcela gone/leaving. I’m six months late in noticing, but I’d assume Diana La Cazadora’s out of the group for now, because she has been on TV since June. And Sahori may still be trying to fix her gear.

Might as well preview the AAA card for Saturday

AAA TV (SAT) 01/20 Parque de Beisbol, Guan
1) Cinthia Moreno, Estrellita, Fabi Apache vs Miss Janeth, Rossy Moreno, Tiffany
2) Chris Stone & Hator vs Alliens & Gran Apache and Pegasso & Super Fly and Escoria & Espíritu [AAA TAG, 1st]
3) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis II vs Barba Roja, Drake, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr.
4) Alberije, el Ángel, El Elegido, Laredo Kid vs ?, Abismo Negro, Antifaz del Norte, Histeria
5) Gronda II, Octagón, Super Porky vs Alan Stone, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido

New Viper could be Niebla, though that doesn’t really seem the spot for him. Can he use that gimmick on AAA TV? The whole CMLL Niebla/IWRG Niebla feud was about who really owned the rights to the character. The CMLL won, but that would seem to mean to me that the promotion, not the man under the mask, owns the identity and the man would have to be a new man in AAA. The other names mentioned as possible jumps in the near future – Rayman and Rayo de Jalisco, reunited again – are both guys who make more sense as tecnicos. I guess Canek’s available, but he doesn’t seem to fit either. I think it’s probably another internal recycling job – which is what I thought last month, and then they dropped the whole thing that taping.

You know who’d be fun at the newest Viper? Karis La Momia. (The skeleton is banned for a month, but not the mummy!) He could still have the Mexican Cruiserweight Belt.

GdR stuff probably won’t be till tomorrow evening.
