CMLL GDR - 11/11/06 (#51)
Recapped: 11/22/06

Unmasked: Ultraman 2000, who's Damian.

Match 1: Arkangel, Loco Max, Nitro (c) vs Mascara Purpura, Stuka Jr., Virus (c)
Arena Mexico, 11/02/06

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:38
Approx Rating: Pretty good for this level. They accomplished all they sent out to do.
Other Match Notes:
1: First couple of minutes were just Arkangel and Purpura working on the mat. Arkangel was looking sharp throughout the fall, and Purpura looked his best so far (which is surely not a coincidence.) Stuka and Nitro followed with a short sequence, but then it went back and forth until Virus was left alone with all three rudos. Nitro and Arkangel suplexed him, and Loco Max added the big splash for the fall. Mascara Purpura got beat for good measure, including a double tapatia/dragon sleeper combo submission which looked cool.

2: They actually do a teased comeback with Virus, which is nice to see. Actual comeback happens when Loco Max and Nitro slide out and trip up Virus to set up a Arkangel corner charge move. Before he can do it, Stuka and Purpura trip Arkangel up, leap into the ring, and attempt running topes the other side. Purpura's dive is okay, but Stuka clips the middle rope with his leg, and barely gets his arms up to prevent a head first landing. Everyone's rushing over to check them, which works out okay because Virus and Arkangel have a sequence planned anyway. Why is Monito out here? Arkangel tries to give Virus a top rope 'rana, but Purpura rushes back into give Arkangel one off the top rope, and Virus hits his own big splash for the pin. I figured they'd go implied countout, but Nitro's brought back in, and Purpura manages to give him a German suplex and a running shooting star press. That looked a bit improvised, but not in a bad way. The doctor is checking on Stuka Jr., and we get a replay of his dive.

3: Without any explanation, Stuka's just standing in his corner. Guess he's okay. Third fall is all tecnico showcasing. Arkangel busts out a camel clutch backbreaker and holds it for a bit, which is quite a change of pace form the tecnicos flying. Virus works in the ringpost armdrags, which is always cool. That leads to a dive train, including Stuka (who's acted like nothing has happened) doing a moonsault to the floor. Nitro is left in with Purpura, and it's obvious that they're profiling him here. Fireman's carry drop sets up for the Shooting Star Press. I don't know if it was legit or something he's recently figured out, but Purpura taking a moment to show a little fear of what he's about to do makes the move more dramatic.

Pre-Match Interview: Terrible is not impressed by Ogun!
Pre-Match Interview: Ogun is impressed by Ogun.

Match 2: Damian 666 (c), Halloween, Terrible vs Hijo de Lizmark (c), Ogun, Volador Jr.
Arena Coliseo, 11/04/06

  1. Rudos
  2. Tecnicos
  3. Rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:37
Approx Rating: Bad. Skip.
Other Match Notes: Entrances are super fast, though I guess it gives them more time for Halloween and Damian to talk. Damian takes a moment to mock a ref - not a sound strategy!

1: Lizmark and Volador have a conversation about how high Lizmark can jump. Well, it's better than watching Ogun wrestle. Ogun's poor man's Groon, as advertised. Fans are willing to give him a chance, at least early. It looks like he's wearing a transparent body stocking, so the muscle definition lines aren't drawn on himself, but it makes his tattoos look quite faded. They have Ogun wrestle the rudos for 2:30 before the rudos decide enough is enough and a beatdown starts. Volador goes down to a Terrible walking slowly legdrop, which was great for it's laziness. He ran towards the ropes, got there, and realized wrestling was fake and he didn't need to be in a hurry. There's a clothesline spot on Lizmark that just looks awful (I'm not even sure it was supposed to be a clothesline; guys weren't on the same page for sure), and and Halloween has to pull him up anyway to get in the Back Cracker - imagine that, Halloween doing a WWE finisher. Crazy! Halloween and Damian celebrate tackily.

2: Damian tries to talk the ring girl into giving him the ring card - just so he can hold it up and not that he would ever consider doing something illegal with it. Then Damian nearly attacks the ref when he stops him from doing illegalness, till Halloween intercedes. Halloween's wrestling with his cap on. Lizmark tries to fire up by kipping up after a double boot, and Terrible just kicks him back down. Halloween screws around some more. Lizmark skins the cat after being thrown out, and Halloween ends up kicking him questionably low so he'll go already. Halloween has a great spinning kick, or it's not and they protected well with a camera switch, I'm not sure. Volador kicks starts the comeback about 2:20 in. Superkicks wild! Volador gets in a tope. Ogun comes off the top rope with a horrible splash for Terrible. I'm just happy everyone lived. We don't see how, but Lizmark pins Halloween with one foot, and then Lizmark immediately hops to his knees and crawls out of the ring. We never saw what set it up.

3: Halloween takes a moment to get up in the personal space of a female fan. Volador's jumping enziguri looks pretty sharp here, so that's one thing. Spinaroonie, check. Hey, more superkicks. Halloween and Lizmark do spots in slow motion to set up yet another one. Ogun's not been in long enough to tank it, but FdT came in with the gameplan of doing just that. Ogun tries fivearms and never should try it again. So bad. They really shouldn't have Ogun working so much with Terrible in this match, because it exposes how short he is off the start. But they do. Rudos take forever to set up for Ogun to be thrown into Halloween's spear. Volador steps into the ring, and does nothing to break up the pin. Bad timing there. He gets a Styles clash from Terrible, and Damián holds off Lizmark with a devastating chinlock.

Magadan talks to the rudos. This gives Terrible give a chance to do his Brian Pullman impressions. Uno dos tres - we're done.

Post-Interview: the rudos talk some more. Why are we getting this? They make sure to point out they pinned Ogun clean, okay.

Total in-ring time on the show: 22:15

That's it.
