AAA Mini Line - 07/08/06

Interview: Nemesis. And then Super Fly comes flipping by. They're spelling it Super Flay this time. He's not as steady with his words as he is with his flips.

Match 1: Angel Mortal, Gallego, Mr. Condor (c) vs Nemesis, Rey Cometa (c), Super Fly
Auditorio Teopanzolco, Cuernavaca, Morelos , 02/25/06

Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 15:10
Notes: Standard match between these two sides. Tecnicos each get a turn looks good against the rudos, rudos beat them down, tecnicos get flashy comeback. The tecnicos actually get the comeback, and then it flips for a moment so the rudos can untie Super Fly's mask, and then back to tecnicos control. That's obviously a plot point, and indeed the match ends with Fly's mask being yanked four minutes later. Outside of that goofiness, this is as good a match as you'd expect from these two sides - they didn't go as nuts with the spots at the end as I thought, but it was good match. This finish set up the tecnicos faking the same thing on the rudos the following week, though the impact of that finish is lessened when you don't see the setup.

Vignette: Look, the Japanese women arrived at the airport. They look quite bored.

Match 2: Mayumi Ozaki, Carlos Amano, Chikayo Nagashima vs Cinthia Moreno, La Diabolica, Martha Villalobos in a special match declaration
Auditorio Teopanzolco, Cuernavaca, Morelos, 02/25/06

Winner: Cinthia Moreno
Match Time: 19:42
Other Match Notes: It seems Ozaki is the girl in camo, Amano is the one in blue, and Nagashima is the other one. (And they have The Police to wave a flag.) The full names are based on googling and presuming; I know nothing here, and hope I'm not confusing others into knowing less. Carlos Amano is a woman's name, at least in this case. (I don't get it either.) They're all from the Oz Academy group. They are certainly slumming it here. I think we were supposed to have Janeth here instead of Martha, and while I don't think Janeth is good, that sure is a downgrade. Fans are chanting Mexico at the Japanese just as they walk to the ring (though less so when the announcers start doing it, ha.) Cinthia has her mixed tag belt. Piero is the referee and the ceremonial plaque holder - tough double duty there! Break before we figure out what this match is supposed to be like.

They keep saying "Amano" like they're not sure if that's her name. And they might not. Piero is insistent on a handshake before the match, but he's not really going to get anyone to do it. I am positive Piero is quickly trying to explain the rules to the participants here. I wish he would help me out.

They go to the "everyone puts on a sleeper on someone else" spot in 2 minutes, with Martha bizarrely refusing to allow a sleeper on her. If you ever wanted to see Ozaki's thong, this is the match for you. I believe Amano and Diabolica do a "I've got your nose" spot. Diabolica is the opposite of good. Nagashima is the one cracking up when she has to wrestle Martha. Diabolica takes advantage of people who are willing to do anything by giving Ozaki the slowest German suplex ever. Police Man then comes in and smacks Diabolica with a chair. Piero lets it go with a warning. Nagashima messes up a top rope 'rana spot with Diabolica, laughs, and givers her a Northern Lights bomb for the pin. (11:20) So it is an elimination match?  Ruda take advantage of the numbers for a little bit. Martha no sells a triple boot/dropkick (not sure which part was worse, someone didn't get the memo), and then the rudas stand still for Martha to snap mare and slam into a position for a splash on all of them. Of course, while a triple boot can't budge her, a triple by Police Man works fine. Rudas try for a camel clutch/double dropkick to the head on Martha, with Martha dropping her head before impact to avoid taking that impact. I'm not sure if that was the spot or whatever, but Martha gave up anyway. (12:40) So now it's Cinthia against all three. Cinthia takes one triple dropkick, but holds the ropes on an attempt for another. She's left alone with Nagashima, and kinda sorta gets her in a bodyscissors cradle for two. Nagashima gets a small package for two. Nagashima says it's it. There's the Northern Lights bomb again one two no. Nagashima is just a jolly lady. I don't know why, but that's who she is. She holds Cinthia for a Amano running headbutt, Cinthia moves, Nagashima takes it, Amano is so concerned, she just leaves. Cinthia slams Nagashima and heads up, taking her time to point. Top rope double stomp (with painfully slip) one two three. (14:21) Amano lands a nice dropkick as Cinthia gets up. And another, I think. And a third. Amano folds her up for a pin, one two no. Crowd chanting for Mexico as we take a replay of the last pin. Long crowd shot - hey, look at that PdM shirt. Amano did something, but she's trying for a pin, one two no. Cinthia escapes, a whip, Amano skids to a stop, kick, bad DDT, one two th-no. Northern Lights suplex one two NO. Cinthia misses a clothesline and Amano gives her a nice German suplex one two NO. Cinthia corner whip, reversed, Amano climbs to the middle rope and poses, and Cinthia slaps her on the behind. Cinthia lifts Amano on her shoulders, falls back, and keeps the bridge - one two three. (16:19) Down to Ozaki. Crowd now chanting for Cinthia. We look at a replay, and back live to Cinthia rolling up Ozaki, one two no. Spinning axhandle (sorta) by Ozaki one two no. Announcers think this is Ozaki, I think. I don't believe they're correct, but I could be wrong, I guess. Ozaki hits Cinthia with a Lance Storm chair shot. Piero takes away the chair and complains, but hat's it. Slam, and Ozaki goes up - twisting senton wouldn't have hit even if Cinthia didn't move. Cinthia turn to go up, missile dropkick. Martha's still up on the apron for who knows why - so people still see here? Cinthia with a dropkick to the face, and a La Majistral in slow motion, but Ozaki easily trips her and escapes. Ozaki suplex, holding it, suplex, holding it, third suplex with bridge one two NO. Ozaki with a whip, Cinthia back with a sunset flip, into a farmer's roll! One 450 spin later (and one completely superfluous Piero leap), Cinthia stops for the count - one two three. (19:42) A bit fast there, but I'm glad it's over.

Japanese women are unhappy and get in a few stomps on Cinthia, but of course the Mexicans run them off. Cinthia gives us exhausted celebration. Ozaki parades around with the Japan flag for no reason. Cinthia gets the plaque. She's going for the microphone, but it looks like we're also going to be joined about Miss Janeth, who's showing off her Reina de Reina title at the entrance. Cinthia has a Mexican flag, and is talking over the microphone - which is audible in the arena for a moment. Cinthia brought it home for Mexico, she explains. She gives Miss Janeth the credit for being the champ, and they hug.

Clip ahead, and Diabolica is showing someone her belt. Who is it? Well, Janeth just hit them in the belt, and now she's slapping Janeth from over the rail. The fight spills into the aisle. I think the announcers are telling me this is Vicki Carranza. They roll on the floor a bunch. I don't recall this ever going anywhere. Wow, she gets to cut a promo. Somehow this leads to a hair match challenge - does Vicky needs some money or something?

Interview: Electroshock is asked what the deal is with him and Zorro. Electro just wants the belt, that's it. He's not angry with Zorro at all, they're buds. (Uh huh.) I think Electro thinks he'd be the better champ. Electro shows off his deep in thought match.

Match 3: Electroshock vs Zorro for the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship
Auditorio Teopanzolco, Cuernavaca, Morelos , 02/25/06

  1. Electroshock kneebar (8:45)
  2. Zorro la Majistral (5:21)
  3. Zorro wheel kick (7:06)

Winner: Zorro, 2-1
Match Time: 21:12
Other Match Notes: This is 3 falls. Your ref is Hijo de Tirantes, who may or may not be Hijo de Tirantes at this point. The out of order thing really is screwing with me this week. No, he's taking off his suspenders again. We're supposed to call him Fernando. Member of the commission, check. WE have to obsesses about Fernando taking off the suspenders, though he's doing it every single week.

1: Zorro wants a friendly handshake, and Electro slaps him in the face. So Zorro asks for it a handshake again. He deserved to be slapped in the face that time. Circle, stop, everyone look at something outside the ring we can't see. Good fine start here. Zorro tried to encourage the chant as we taking a loving look at the belt. (Note to self: get the still for the wiki!) Hey, look, a small child. This match going to start any time soon? Now they're looking around the other side of the ring, and the fans are chanting for Electro. Lockup! Nothing. (BOOOO.) Lockup, into the corner, Fernando tries to force a break up, but it takes some work. Let's look at the crowd - wow, it's a lot bigger than it looks from the hard cam. AAA's in love with using the entrance as a background (they've been doing it for a few tapings), but that's that's least impressive side of the building. There's only floor seats there; you've got bleachers and second decks on all other side. We going to wrestle? I guess Electro got slapped while we were elsewhere. Circle. Lockup, Elector with an armbar. They both back into the ropes, run forward, and Electro locks on a rolling armbar. Keeping  Zorro down with an armbar. Up, double leg backdrop, one two no. Both separated again. Test of strength lockup. Electro winning, Zorro evening it out. I'm really going to regret doing all this typing in seconds, I know. Zorro gets a wristlock, rolls thru, armdrags, down to the mat with an modified fujiwara, and then a double armbar submission. Zorro pins one of Electro's arms underneath him and yanks the other - Electro yells a lot, but uses a knee to get free. You going to follow up? No, just hold your shoulder a bit. Electro chant causes him to stop and look at the crowd again - stop doing that! Zorro took off his mask! I have no idea who this is. Elector double leg, holding Zorro down by his legs and occasionally choking. Zorro grabs arm and pulls it into an armbar, getting free. Zorro starts to get up, Elector gets a single leg, tries for a stretch muffle, Zorro blocks it, so Elector eventually switches to a toe hold. HE'S GOING TO WIN WITH A TOE HOLD. Maybe not. Electro gets distracted by a Zorro chant - he's really not focused here! - and Zorro inside cradles him, one two no. This is not horrid mat wrestling or anything, but I'm not quite compelled by it. It's not playing to their strengths. Okay, stop chanting Electro already. Too many stops and starts here. Elector off the ropes, over, into a Zorro armdrag. keylock on the mat, holding Electro down for a couple of two counts. Replay of that armdrag - Electro hit first with his elbow, which can't be fun. Zorro ends up getting another armdrags, and I think Elector took it better. Elector trying to draw from the crowd while in the keylock - that is a key lock, right? I don't think I really know. Actually, now its definitely not, but Zorro shoots off Electro anyway, over, under, roll over, into am armdrags, into another Zorro armdrags, back tot he key lock. The crowd is into chanting. This is not the match I thought I was going to get, but I guess they respect the belt. (I'll take that back alter, for sure.) Electro teases getting out of the armbar he's in now, but ends up back in it and on the mat. Elector gets up again, Zorro shoots him into the ropes, Zorro misses a clothesline, and Electro gives him a forward legsweep into a kneebar. Zorro is selling it like his knee has been dislocated - and he gives. (8:45) Electro gives up the hold immediately, which is a bit of a surprise. Well, to me, because it didn't really fit with the slaps to start this fall. That felt much longer than 8:45, but then maybe I'm just not used to 8:45.

2: Zorro has a slight limp, but let's not focus too much on it if he won't be in five minutes. Zorro charges, Electro catches and powerslams him, one two no. Zorro grabs the ropes, Electro puts on a bad anklelock and has to be pried off. Of course, that hurts Zorro's knee. The ankle bone's connected to the leg bone, and so on. Dropkick to the knee, kick to the back of the knee. Crowd sympathies with Zorro by chanting "ELECTRO ELECTRO." Electro grabs Zorro's leg, but Zorro squirms away. Time for the "you're so badly hurt, I'm going to stop this match and give it to the other guy - but WAIT, you've suddenly convinced me otherwise" spot. Zorro does a good job of convincing, by stopping his limp entirely. Hard to stop the match that way. Electro kicks the bad leg, kicks the bad leg, and then kicks the bad leg. I guess i Should mention it's the right one. Dropkick to the right side of the body, though not really close to the knee. Then again, if the knee worked. Back to the anklelock while Zorro's in the ropes - Fernando is slow to bring it up again. Oh, now we've go the doctor coming into check it. This is SO not the match I thought we were getting here. Crowd is into it. (Theory: "Let's have Zorro and Electro go broadway in a technical match", Pena said, and at that moment, everyone finally realized he was complete insane.) They're going to let them match go on! What a shocking shock. Corner clothesline by Electro, followed by the always troubling "long discussion in the corner about how we're about to start your comeback" bit. Hey, look, Zorro reversed the corner whip! And he landed a clothesline. Corner whip, jumping back elbow! It's like he's coming back! Zorro does remember to grab his knee. But then the throws a wild superkick with his bad leg. I guess that's better than planting with it. Corner whip, Zorro tries another kick, it's as bad as the first, but this time it gets him stuck on the corner and Electro goes to town on the leg. Stomps to the knee when he falls down. Electro pulls Zorro into the middle of the ring, but Zorro keeps kicking him anyway with his good leg. Electro garbs the leg one too many times, and takes an enziguri form the bad leg. I'm waiting for Zorro to start limping with the left (wrong) leg. If I'm ever going to see that, that is the match. Crowd chants for Zorro. We miss Electro doing something, but we do see Zorro put on the La Majistral cradle one two three. (5:21) TIED UP. Again, it felt twice as long. Who's going to win? The bigger question is why the doctor walk all the way to the back if he was just going to come back between falls and check on Zorro again. Guess what, they're not stopping the match. They really have to stop the match once in a while to make this work. But I guess making it work isn't the point. While watching replays, Zorro got five strips of white tape wrapped around his knee. That'll surely solve everything. Maybe that's why the Doc went to the back? He forget his magic tape! Ponder this while AAA takes a break.

3: Electro is looking tired too. 13 minutes with two breaks! That's tough wrestling! Zorro strikes first with a dropkick. Don't use your bad knee to get up, you moron. AH, what are you going to do. Zorro misses a dropkick, suffers no ill effect, an and then lands a dropkick, hurting his knee. Slow crawl to cover, One two no. Seated armbar by Zorro. Electro trying to draw from the crowd. Crowd seems split. Zorro switches to a bodyscissors slipper. Electro gets the ropes, so let's look at the announcers for no real reason. Back in the ring, Electro is being admonished for something. Who really cares. Electro stands like a goof as Zorro gets free form the ropes, walks over, and superkicks Electro in the head. Zorro is slightly limping. (MAGIC TAPE!) Corner whip, Zorro tries a clothesline, Electro ducks under and gets a waistlock, and pulls off the slowest German suplex since - last match, actually. Yay for Diabolica. Electro holds on, and does another (better one) - one more? People are often putting Electro shock and Kurt Angle in the same sentence. Zorro blocks the third try, standing switch, and takes a back elbow. Electro off the ropes, duck another clothesline, and delivers another German suplex, this time holding the bridge, one two NO. Fernando counts third falls like a normal human being, in case you're wondering. Both men slow up. Electro lands a lame clothesline, and Zorro appropriately doesn't go down. Electro off the ropes again, and into a Zorro dropkick. I think Zorro gets the 13th dropkick free. Electro rolls out, and Zorro leaps to the apron to follow him. Asai - no, Electro shoves the ropes, and Zorro tumbles onto the apron and to the floor. Zorro stood no chance of actually hitting Electro on a dive, as we see, because Electro had sidestepped him to get the middle ropes. Back live, they're both being counted out. Fernando counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10, and thankfully they come back in before he counts 10 a third time. Elector knocked Zorro into the barricade before coming in himself, and he's anticipating a count out win. Keep hoping. The cameraman thinks this is a perfect time to obsess over elector's back tattoo., Hey, look, Zorro's back in. One pointless sunset flip roll thru spot later, Electro clotheslines Zorro, walks around, nods to the crowd, walks back to Zorro, and covers one two gosh no that didn't work. Electro sets up Zorro for a superplex, keeping him there with a slap. Many slaps. Am I going to be so mad when the screwjob comes. So So mad. Superplex! One two NO. Fernando has a fast count if anything. Those suspenders were slowing him down. Let's look at the crowd for no real reason. Hey, there's a title match here, might we see it? There it is! Electro gives Zorro a double leg spinebuster, and signals that's it. SCREW OFF, CHARLY MANSON. Don't be walking out here, acting like you're going to be doing something. No one wants you, go home! (Maybe Electro shouldn't have made that signal.) Electro gazes in Charley's direction, and Charley makes "I want the belt" motions. Great, come back in five minutes when someone actually has it, you dork. I've got no use for Charly Manson right now, that's for sure. Stop looking at him, Electro! Electro is horrible unfocused wrestlers. Zorro's slowly sneaking up behind, don't you worry. He's quite dragging it out. Now Charly wants a handshake? Elector can't decide - wait, he can, no. Good for you. Electro turns back to Zorro, Zorro jumps at him, and a his wheel kick doesn't come close to hitting like it should, hahahahaha. I have to watch that again. (It's still funny!) One two, of course it's three! (7:06) Even when AAA tries with all it's heart, AAA has a way of living up to the moment and sucking the big one at just the right moment. WAY TO BE, AAA. WAY TO BE, ZORRO. Of course Electro is blaming Charly, when it's his fault for being distracted. Take responsibility for yourself! Replay wisely skips the finishing move, because the finishing move sucks. Zorro sells the title big, which is at least nice. Fernando wants a hug!  They're going clubbing later, and neither man will have to change shirts. Now Electro wants that handshake, but he's not getting it either. Here's one more replay of that kick - it did extremely weakly connect to Electro's midsection, but that's completely ridiculous.

Zorro calls back Charly Manson, but he ain't' coming for him. Electro tries - if he's not winning Zorro's title, he would like a shot at Manson (and his title.) Turning to Zorro, Electro notes they this 100% technical, so I think he wants a rematch. Zorro calls Electro "mediocre". Well, Zorro knows mediocre. He calls Electro a clown - and then goes after Charly Manson! Zorro's a moron, they're both beating him down with in seconds, Electro even using Zorro's cane. Fernando holds them off to keep his clubbing partner. Play Electro's music. Announcers try to say Electro's the rudo, but Zorro's quite the jerk himself here.

After a break, Electro is still roaming around ringside area with the cane - he hits Fernando with the cane a few times for fun. A good portion of the crowd is with him. Oh great, they're talking about Electro being the traitor again. Here's a replay of the superplex and the double leg spinster, both better finishes than this. Why do they keep showing the finish from that horrible angle? They actually have an angle that's better.

Interview: Cibernetico sits on a park bench, all by himself. Some leader of men! This is about something or other, I'm sure. Cibernetico picks a fight with Konnan for no particular reason.

Match 4: Espiritu, Charly Manson, Cibernetico vs Intocable, La Parka Jr., Octagon
Auditorio Teopanzolco, Cuernavaca, Morelos , 02/25/06

Winner: Rudos (Cibernetico pin Intocable)
Match Time: 13:40
Other Match Notes: Skull on a cross. Hand in mouth. Cibernetico's music accidentally cuts out too early. Someone needs to turn down the smoke machine a few notches. Is Parka supposed to be wearing a mummy's outfit? I think it's just an Egyptian king thing. Cibernetico must speak, because his interview was many minutes ago. I think he's telling the fans not to cheer.

Typical AAA main event. Sect attacked after intros to start the beatdown, Charily bringing in a lot of chairs and Parka taking a powerbomb on them. Fernando TEASED a DQ but didn't. Lots of chair usage, which often doesn't mean anything and looks bad. Comeback around six minutes in, tecnico one ones a couple minutes later. Dive spots around 13:00. Alan Stone hit the ring at 13:30, fouled Intocable, and Cibernetico picked up the pin.

Black Family and Chessman joined the Sect in the ring post match so they could all pose, Alan laughed some, and that's it. Oh, wait, Cibernetico has more to say. Octagon retorted, but the Sect just kinda walked out on him. Fair enough.

Replays, music video, and we're done.
