AAA - 07/01/06
Recapped: 07/04/06

Interview: Javy and Jesse. Perhaps they explain why they're down to two people. Those are the spellings they're going with now.

Match 2: Espantapajaro I (c), Espantapajaro II, Espantapajaro III vs Dizzy (c), Javy, Jesse
Lienza Charro, Irapuato, Guanajuato, 02/06/06

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:06
Notes: Whoever's in the Espantapajaro gimmick (Scarecrow) is really into it. Dizzy is just a high flier in a mask. Kumba Kids have switches from white gear to black since I last saw them - which was quite a while ago, so who knows when they made the change. Announcers take time to introduce the valets; they're new or something. I've never seen someone and thought "wow, they look even hotter with piercing underneath their bottom lip." Maybe that's just me. There's a moment of applause for - her? I don't think so, but I don't know what they're doing here. Tirantes gets his own entrance. There's no real markings on the Espantapajaros to quickly tell which is which - actually, there are the pants, but I guess I should've paid more attention. This is three falls for whatever reason.

1: This match wins the award for slowest sunset flip reversals pot in the history of man. If that's even what that was supposed to be. I think it's 1 and Jesse who look really green during that sequence. Announcers are actually explaining which one is which by the pants and if I understood, I think I'd be fine here. The second Kumbia Kid - I'm going to decide this is Javy, actually looks a bunch better in his opening sequence. There seems to be some clipping in here. Switch to beatdown (or what turns out to be a teased one) at 5:00. Jesse does the worst kip up and out of a corner, and then there's a bad looking set of spots to set up Dizzy pescado-ing all of the Scarecrow - actually, he gets 2 of 3, and the third just takes a bump on his own, which is always fab.

2: Dizzy gets a sequence, crowd shot, and all the sudden we're in the middle of a beatdown. Good editing there. They have THE BAG. Apparently the bag is too vital for us to see without another crowd shot, and then we get a poor man's Bucanero Castigo (with the setup really dragging down the judge's scores.) No one's quite sure what they're the plan is on the finish - one Espantapajaro is working very hard for a wacky submission, and another fakes a low blow. Tirantes misses a Kumbia Kid tapping out for seconds while debating the foul, and then that's the pinfall that counts. That is so everything wrong with lucha libre in one finish

3: Beatdown. The bag! Hey, dude, use the bag, or don't use the bag, but stop holding on to it. Of course, Dizzy steals it from him and puts it on him to start the comeback. That bag's even way too small! How were they planning on putting someone in. Even the Kumbia Kids aren't that tiny. Match got marginally better in this fall for a stretch, but still pretty mediocre indy lucha libre. Dizzy's top con giro doesn't get caught, hitting and flying over it's intended targeted. It's followed by a horribly choreographed match. This crowd is kind not to turn on this match. Oh great, another faked foul IN THE FIRST MATCH OF THE SHOW. This better not be one of those shows.

Update: I have no idea, but Rudopolis says it's about the Espantapajaro going back to the gym to get better. I hope that means the tecnicos are also going - away.

Vignette: JJ Jr. is downcast. You can tell this, because he's shaking his head sadly. He's getting a MRI? There appears to be a brain in his head. I guess they're selling whatever diabolical thing Shocker did to him that I've totally forget. Sadly, it doesn't appear JJ Jr.'s career is over.

Match 2: Cuevo (c), Escoria, Ozz vs Cats, Joe Silver, Super Calo (c)
Lienza Charro, Irapuato, Guanajuato, 02/06/06

Winner: Dark Family (everyone pin Calo)
Match Time: 17:23
Notes: Cats crawls three steps out of the entrance, and that's enough crawling for him. Joe Silver looks like a dude, but he actually has gear, so he's better than the previous guy in this spot. Why does Super Calo have a Spurs jersey? No one in AAA should like Tim Duncan! They should be wearing Jason Richardson jerseys. Copetes is the ref. Dark Family steal a Sect banner from somewhere, and Copetes poses with them. YES ONE FALL. Stunt grandma! I saw a show about this once.

I think there are clips in here. Cats gets a good sequence with Ozz, and then it turns into a beatdown. They make sure to beat down Calo right into the crazy grandmother. And Cats gets a hug from her. I think she's more over than the tecnicos. Corner charge on Calo is delayed, and he use the time to start a comeback. Very much reliant on one Dark Family member attacking at a time. Joe Silver puts a lot into his clotheslines. Cats needs to put more work into his dropkicks. The action came to a halt after the tecnicos cleared the ring at about 12:00, like it was in between falls. Tecnicos teased doing something to Copetes and then just all went back to the apron, leaving no one in. Lots of crowd shots. Perhaps another clip? Silver/Scoria. Why does Silver jump before doing an a normal armdrag? He seems like indy Tony Rivera. Calo/Scoria are next. They end up doing a  four way headlock from there. Cats has bad timing. Silver almost comes up short on his top on giro but gets caught. Cats does a moonsault from the top, but Ozz has to stare at him for five seconds while he's climbing. Copetes elects not to count on a Calo middle rope moonsault, and then counts slow. It get as a reaction from the fans, but I'm bored with it. Slow count on a back suplex, and Cuervo yanks Calo's mask off while he's covering, throwing it away. Copetes catches the mask and tosses it out of the ring. Black Family stomp down Calo before covering for the win. 2 for 2! Silver got in the camera shot, started to make the save, realized he'd get there too soon, paused, and then started to make the save again after 3.

Vignette: Psicosis. He was invited into the Sect, but he wasn't interested - he's forming his own trio.

Match 3: Psicosis II, Espiritu, Charly Manson (c) vs Alliens, Abismo Negro (c), Pimpinela Escarlata
Lienza Charro, Irapuato, Guanajuato, 02/06/06

Winner: Tecnicos (Abismo straight jacket camel clutch Charly)
Match Time: 15:06
Other Match Notes: Espiritu still has the Vatos Locos KISS music. Psicosis is here instead of Cassandro - I presume he's still hurt at this time, but I've totally lost track of the chain of events for the moment. Without Cassandro, these are weird teams - must've been a lot of people missing this show. Charly tries to give some direction by shoving around Pimpi prematch when he tried to fool around with him. Crowd scary behind Abismo for some reason - hometown? ONE FALL YAY.

When the match was supposed to start, Charly took a moment to yell in the microphone about Abismo. And then they picked a fight with the stunt granny, of course. The story of the match was Psicosis, who may or may not be a tecnico at this point, being best buds with Abismo. That did not go over with his teammates. The secondary story is Aliens being a tecnico - I mean, what? I guess you can't show Pimpi actually kissing another person, because they switch to a shot of the crowd there. Abismo pulls down the straps in his final brawl with Charly Manson, which is odd because he's not wearing an outfit that really has straps. They let the one on one to go on, with Abismo almost getting the Martinete. Charly escaping, and Abismo re-reversing, eventually into a straight jacket camel clutch. (15:06) Abismo is in tears with happiness for beating Charly Manson in a match I've almost already forgotten.

Noti AAA
- Konnan backstage at TNA; we've seen this video before.
- Shocker appeared on a TV show. Besides this one. "Amor en Vivo", there we go.
that was short!

Match 4: Alan Stone, Shocker, Zumbido (c) vs Electroshock, Intocable (c), Zorro
Lienza Charro, Irapuato, Guanajuato, 02/06/06

Winner: Guapos
Match Time: 1:03
Other Match Notes: We join this segment in progress; it happens with a segment around this time every week, I think. It seems to be end game already: Intocable is stumbling around in the after haze of a dive, Zorro is down recovering from something, Shocker is helping a masked man to the ring, and Zumbido is lighting Electroshock up with clotheslines in what feels like a final one on one encounter. Zumbido switches to clotheslines, and Electro catches it and puts him in an fujiwara armbar. Mystery Man throws some liquid at Zorro (now facing away from the ring), Zorro ducks and Electro just happens to be in the right place for it. Worked out better for the Guapos, I'd say. Shocker and Mystery Man work over Zorro (throwing him into the crowd, it turns out) as Zumbido puts Elector in a modified Texas Cloverleaf . Alan reappears to take care of Intocable, and Electro taps out in the meantime. I bet this isn't one fall. Guapos continue to beat up Intocable, pulling him into a triple submission with the mystery man posing on top. He gives, and the ref calls the fall there - hey, Intocable must be the captain! Shocker pulls off the mystery man's mask to reveal him as Scorpio Jr., which isn't so much a surprise months later.

Guapos continue to beatdown Intocable - well, not Zumbido, he's gotta pose. Scorpio's tights match the other guys, so they must've been planning this for more than five minutes. You'd think Tirantes would consider overturning this, but it's not CMLL. Meanwhile, instead of making the SAVE, Electro and Zorro are arguing on the outside. Guapos strut in the ring. I still don't know if we have another fall here? Zorro and Electro end up in the ring to tease a brawl, but we've also got Abismo Negro confronting the Guapos too. He's one and they're four, so it doesn't last too long. In the process of watching that, we miss Electro decking Zorro or whatever - this is why you don't do five million things at once! Abismo ends up safely in the ring and checking on Intocable, three feet from where Electro is killing Zorro with cane shot to the side. Zumbido poses with the middleweight belt on the stage like it's something important, but the director has decided we're not more interested in Electro beating down Zorro some more. Abismo, having dropped off Intocable somewhere, is now back in the ring to discuss this with Electroshock. Abismo preaches for calm? Electro thinks about hitting HIM with the cane for having such a stupid idea. Electro actually ends up swinging, but Abismo ducks and Zorro gets clocked again. I wonder if Zorro is mad at Zorro for that? He should be mad at himself. Abismo's like "Wait, where you actually trying to get me with that one?" but Electro assures him he saw that dastardly Zorro sneaking up on Abismo and was just trying to protect his good friend. And then they walk off. Electro thinks about going back, but Abismo points out this segment has gone on far too long already. Replays. Electro better not be back in that ring. No, he's not, good.

Interview: A chat with Octagon and La Parka Jr. Sometimes it occurs to me how weird it is to see someone with that mask looking that thin. (No offense! LA Park's voice is much cooler.) This is re: title match. Octagon is wearing a turtleneck! Lame, but fitting.

Match 5: Chessman & Cibernetico vs La Parka Jr. & Octagon in a Mexican National Tag Team Titles
Lienza Charro, Irapuato, Guanajuato, 02/06/06

  1. Rudos
  2. Tecnicos
  3. Tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:43
Other Match Notes: The rudo announcer calls Cibernetico "the new Osama Bin Ladin." That's a guy on his side! Someone's way over doing it on the camera switcher for the entrances. It's not done with any point; just like they saw someone do it, and is mimicking it without really understanding why it worked. Champions wear their belts, which is the only time I think I've seen these champs with them. Chessman gamely tries to steal a belt from the commissioner during the pre-match photo. Chessman is slightly awesome. Your ref is Copetes. This is three falls, and I have no problem with that.

1: Octagon and Chessman start off, and there's a good Chessman chant. Tecnicos are a bit annoyed. Rudos decide to give up the pretends and jump the tecnicos about 2:45. Cibernetico ties Octagon 's mask to the ropes and takes off for the back. Chessman unties Octagon, just to choke him out with a cord. Copetes looks for the submission. Chessman goes from choking out Octagon to wondering why La Parka won't shake his hands. Cibernetico returns from the back with a couple chairs - he had to go backstage to find chairs? They work over La Parka's leg by throwing a chair into a chair that happens to be leaning on his knee. I think there are slightly more effective ways. They do the same thing with Octagon's crotch, which is not a DQ for Copetes. On and on and I should stop typing. Parka's held upside down by his shoelace. Cibernetico teases using a fork, but that's a bit too much for Copetes. Even the beatdown wasn't mostly boring garbage stuff, it goes on far too long. They should push more of this onto the second fall.

2: Tirantes arrives just after the second fall starts to run Copetes out of there. This story only works if Tirantes does something Copetes wouldn't, but for at least this fall, that isn't the case. Chessman simply gets caught with a double flapjack out of nowhere, and he's quickly finishes, with Cibernetico looking at the crowd the whole time. After the finish, La Parka half collapses, selling exhaustion. Octagon leisurely fixes his pants leg.

3: Rudos meet the match requirements of getting into an argument with the granny. Parka gives her a big kiss and then plays around with a wig. Usual sequences from the two tecnicos here; this doesn't feel like a special match, except for one less person than usual. Cibernetico has spent much time working on his tan. Stereo topes probably mean we're reaching end game. The tecnicos deliver, but the rudos are the first to recover. They don't really need help, but the Dark Family  and Espiritu are out to help stomp down the tecnicos. We know Copetes would let this go - looks like Tirantes is going to as well. Somewhere in there, the Sect changed the pulled the masks off both tecnicos and swapped them - we were probably watching replays at that item - so it's the La Parka-ed masked Octagon in the ring with Chessman as the others beat down the tecnico on the outside. Chessman dropkicks Octagon out, and gives him a pescado. There's a loud reaction, but not to that (again, many things at once); Abismo Negro and Zorro (showing no signs of earlier beatdown) are out to scare back the Sect, even though the numbers go the other way. Cibernetico and Parka are in, with Cibernetico getting in a spear. Tirantes takes the scenic route to the pin, one two no. I don't think he meant to be slow there, but the rudo announcers thinks otherwise. La Parka gets Cibernetico with a brutal small package for two. Looks like everyone else has wandered to the back. Parka gives Cibernetico some turnbuckle smashes before heading up. Missile dropkick connects, and he goes up again. Middle rope legdrop. How about a pin? One two three. Of all the finishes on this show, of all the Cibernetico/Parka matches, that's when they do a clean finish? And not even the match ender - Octagon's still got beat Chessman. Which he does in short order, just as clean. I don't get it.

Chessman and Cibernetico walk off with the belts, but Abismo and the commission retrieve them. The Sect decide to storm the ring - but then change their minds once they get there.

Replays and we're done.
