CMLL Mini Line - 05/06/06 (#222)
Recapped: 07/07-10/06

Match 1: Texano Jr., Kronos, Maximo vs Arkangel (c), Ohara, Okumura
Arena Mexico, 12/09/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:21
Approx Rating: Ark looked good.
Other Match Notes: Maximo still has roman gladiator music, but in transitions into girl pop. Kronos apparently doesn't have an entrance video. Arkangel has his skill on a stick. Ohara doesn't have a video either. Exciting details, I know. Why does Okumura have a cover of Dr. Feelgood? Don't answer that. These long entrances help explain how this show went 2 hours with 3 matches. Improbably, they break after the rudo captain has been announced, but before the tecnico one. CLIFFHANGER!

I'm thinking Texano. No, it's Maximo. It's good I stayed tuned.

1: Crowd chants for Maximo when Kronos is in the ring. That must suck for Kronos. One on one sequences to start: Kronos/Okumura (basic but fine chain wrestling), Ark/Texano (a touch more complicated chain, but Arkangel doing the work) and Ohara/Maximo (off the ropes stuff dominated by Maximo.) Okumura shoved Maximo at the end of the sequence and the match broke down in from there; Texano got in a missile dropkick on Okumura, Kronos landed a top rope frog splash onto both Okumura and Arkangel, and Maximo top rope somersault sentoned them all. Triple finish from there. Monito's here? I hadn't noticed. He's wearing his tie again. Replays show there's not much frog in that frog splash, but what can you do.

2: One on ones continue. Kronos/Arkangel (Kronos has a wheel kick! It's not good! Also a apron dive headscissors), Texano/Okumura (Okumura has perfected the wacky walk after taking a backbreaker, but his enziguri one doesn't get a reaction), but Arkangel and Ohara rush the ring before we get the Maximo sequence. Beatdown on. Texano takes a backdrop out. Kronos is about 3 sizes bigger than Ohara. The double flying axhandle to the midsection doesn't look impressive, but the triple dropkick to the head works. More team work than you'd expect for a random team like this; they appear to have worked on a plan (or at least some spots.) Maximo gets crotch on the post, and Arkangel pulls Texano into a tapatia for the other two bulldog. That's it.

3: Kronos has goofy eyes in Tony's cartoon. In the ring, the rudos are improving their workplace efficiency by beating down two tecnicos at once. Double double elbow drop! Maximo's the odd one out, which means he gets beat up alone. Double chops for him. Okumura and Ohara head to the ropes for a big one, but the tecnicos pull the middle ones out, and out they go. Come back  is on - Japanese get whipped into e ach other on the outside while Maximo grabs Arkangel's mask. Arkangel is whipped into a quick double backdrop form the other two and dropkicked out. Triple tope? No, they all fake out and pose. They pick up with both sides in their corners, but partners change quick and the tecnicos keep control. Texano's dominated, but ends up throwing himself out of the ring when supposedly aiming for Arkangel. Ark take advantage with a pescado. Kronos and Okumura take their place in the ring, but only till Kronos can dropkick him out. Maximo dropkicks Ohara out, and Kronos decides to tope him - that doesn't work for distance and size reasons - Kronos barely makes it, if he does at all. Okumura and Maximo are left in, and Okumura gets a layout DDT for three rather quick. Very short sequence there, so let's kill time ad look at The Soccer Girl Who Likes Atlantis, helpfully wearing her Mexico team jersey this week.

Vignette: Best of 2005 awards were presented to wrestlers in ring, though they don't specify all of them. Here's what I have

Best rudo: Atlantis
Best tecnico: Dos Caras Jr.
Best tag team: Dr. Wagner Jr. & Mistico
Best new star: Maximo
special recognition: Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero

Stellar Moments:
Lance: Arkangel decks Virus with a tope. Best part is Arkangel routinely asking Virus if he's okay after the impact, start to get up, and then double take when he realized Virus didn't say "yea." He hit Virus good.
Spectacular: Stuka suicide moonsault
Treachery: Atlantis beating up Monito and dragging him to the entrance
Sensation: Mistico topes Perro into the second row. Which is really bad for the people setting in first row.
Triumph: Universo hammers his way to a win.

Vignette: Magadan and Universo attempt to talk how totally legal the black hammer is. Before we can get past Universo's scowl, who just happens to roll in? Damian, Mr. Aguila and Halloween. Halloween's in a wheel chair with a neck brace and a leg cast. He is NOT jolly. I think he promises revenge. They go off while Universo calls him a mummy. Universo promises he's got one more black hammer for Perro, and now they get to talking about how totally legal it is.

Match 2: Universo 2000 (c), Tarzan Boy, Rey Bucanero vs Hector Garza (c), Damian 666, Mr. Aguila
Arena Mexico, 12/09/05

  1. Universo
  2. Garza
  3. Universo

Winner: Universo (2-1)
Match Time: 7:54
Approx Rating: all brawl.
Other Match Notes:
Universo is first out, but the Perros music is right after him. The team, with Hector dyed blond and having a non-working microphone, bring out Halloween. You do that to one of them, you do it to them all - so they jump him. Only the do they play the Guerreros music - the Perros realize they left Halloween behind to die and ought to watch the entrance. Guess who's coming out of the crowd? Universo team lead beatdown to start. Halloween watches all of this from the stage with a sad look. Though, if I didn't already know he wasn't going to get out of that wheelchair, I'd suspect a shocking turn of events.

1: This didn't take long. Universo hit a top rope splash on both guys before the finish. Garza made a belated save. Perros del Mal make their comeback while we're watching replays of this.

2: So we're in mid beatdown the other way as the action picks up. PdM have their spots down. Rey gets all sorts of beat up . Tarzan is hesitant to step into the fray, and gets caught by the numbers. Double dropkicks to the head for everyone. Looking at them together, Garza's blond hair is worse than Universo's red hair. Universo gets pulled up at 2 after a double suplex, so Aguila can do his move too - 450 splash, pulled up again. Now what? Oh, Damian gets to the valaguesa. They count the pin though Universo gave while being in the hold. Universo sells the move huge. Break.

3: Perros still in control as the fall starts, with Universo telling his side he wants to the one on one with Damián - and both sides give it? huh. Damián actually waits the battle. Rey/Garza next, with Garza getting in a cheap shots which upset Tarzan greatly. Quite a bit of reversals off the ropes, Rey eventually armdrags Garza out and following him there, to trip Garza into the front row. Tarzan and Aguila - crowd anti-Tarzan here. Aguila's rainbow hair is wacky. Quick, if inconsistent exchanges. Damián and Universo are quickly in, just long enough for Damian to dropkick him outside the ring and Damian to land the slip and slide splash. Rey adds a tope con giro on Damian, Aguila adds a HUGE tornillo on Rey, and the boys from northern Mexico are left in the ring. Garza can't believe he isn't getting a handshake. he does get an armdrag, and holds onto to turn it into a grounded crucifix cradle, one two no. Garza corner whip, reversed, Tarzan charges in, Garza tosses him, Tarzan lands on the apron and fights back, connecting on his missile dropkick but not covering. Split crowd here. Tarzan goes for a Bodyscissors cradle, but Hector blocks it, sits down, grabs the middle rope (obviously) and still gets a count one t-DRINK TO THE FACE. Heroic job by the refs not to see the ring get filled with liquid from a cup Universo threw at Hector. Universo and Tarzan cover Hector, and that's that.

Talking, talking, talking. Crowd goes with a Damian-led "Perros" chant. But the cheer Universo saying "VIVA CAPOS" too. Tarzan gets just enough time to challenge Hector to a match.

Match 3: Atlantis (c), Ultimo Guerrero, Averno, Mephisto vs Mistico, Santo, Negro Casas, Blue Panther (c)
Arena Mexico, 12/09/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:53
Approx Rating: 87. Fun
Other Match Notes:
Atlantis has a mask for the girl soccer player, of course. She shows off her Atlantis t-shirt. Monito is out here in his Atlantis gear again! This is becoming silly. You never get to her the guitar solo in this song, but it's going long today. Especially since Ultimo has just now entered. I think they just restart the song. Why do Averno & Mephisto have separate entrances? TIME MANAGEMENT! Panther has a nice poncho and enough reason not to walk into a 4 on 1 fight. I think they jump him anyway, because he's not there when Mistico (w/little kid Mistico arrives). Negro gets last entrance? I care about this much more than he does. Actually, all looks okay when we finally look at the ring. Break just as they're blowing the whistle. Refs are Baby Richard and Rafael el Mayo.

1: Averno wants to fight already, but the tecnicos are screwing around and posing and such. Atlantis is still under the belief that he's a tecnico. Negro/Averno sequence to start. Basic holds switch to slapping when Negro holds onto a half crab too long while Averno has the ropes. I think we miss Atlantis entering wackily while checking out Tony's pictures of Monito, Mistico and Atlantis. Panther/Atlantis in the ring -for about five seconds before the ex-Infernales rush to jump Panther for Atlantis. Slaps, slam, and a knee to the head. The rudos backed out as soon as they gave Atlantis the advantage. Atlantis pulls Blue Panther in a front facelock. Negro wanders in, exchanges words with Atlantis, and puts him in a front facelock. And now everyone's doing it - Ultimo on Negro, Santo on Ultimo, Averno on Santo, Mistico on Averno, Mephisto on Mistico - quadruple rudo suplex! Rudos are completely in control and run out the tecnicos to all four corners of the ringside area. They get it to a 4 on one pretty quick, with Negro being isolated and worked over. Double, high back suplex stops him for the time being. Panther gets the fun of an Atlantis spinebuster, and the tag champs double flying headbutt. Mistico brought in and chopped out. Santo's brought in  - four man face first powerbomb! Mephisto him for Averno to beat into submission - and that does it for him. Atlantis brings in Mistico, and Ultimo is on him. Super high flapjack! Huge four man flapjack! Mistico bounced big on that. One more? YES! Way to land on your head, Mistico. He's done. Break.

2: Ultimo is entertaining himself between falls by throwing Mistico around ringside. There are worst hobbies - well, not for Mistico. Beatdown still solidly on. Negro brought and double booted by Ultimo and Atlantis. Santo takes a double team crotching on the post. Atlantis kicks Negro out of the ring, and Ultimo brings in Panther for them to knock around. Averno takes his turn tossing around Mistico. Double backdrop for Panther. Negro battles with a front row rudo fan just as he battles with Averno (and he's not winning either fight.) All the rudos back in to work over Mistico. He gets tossed up again. High tens. Four man flapjack! Atlantis asks the crowd if they want one more - I think they're chanting for Mistico. Tossed up again, Mistico kinda lands on his feet (more like one knee and one leg), and the rudos stare at him (as if he had amazingly landed on his feet!) And then tecnicos club them from behind and the comeback is on. Averno gets a boot right in the jaw from Negro, and then Negro decides to do it again. Mistico checks many superkicks and a 619 off his list. Panther sorta gives Atlantis a monkey flip on the ramp (Atlantis rolls thru the landing. Atlantis gets slammed on the ramp. Santo rips off the top of Averno's mask, and punches him while he tries to cover up. Negro actually locks on a submission hold, but it's too soon for submitting. Mistico chases after Atlantis, and then comes back to get a frog splash on Ultimo Guerrero. One, no, Mistico really didn't pin him well (and is limping a bit.) Both sides have made it to their corner, so we're back to one on ones. First is Mephisto and Santo, and Mephisto is taking a monkey flip and a spinning headscissors in no time. Averno gets in a cheap shot from the outside to help out his partner a bit. Mephisto stops Negro form coming over to help, and grabs Santo for a corner whip,. Santo gets help form his corner to come back with a spinning headscissors, and Negro goes to the apron to add the running Thesz press. Averno in, Averno takes a spinning armdrags out. Santo runs, and Panther kinda tosses him out to a plancha - that looked no fun. Panther gets ready for a dive, but runs into a Ultimo backdrop. Ultimo in turn, turns into a Mistico springboard headscissors. Mistico runs at Ultimo just as Atlantis grabs Panther, and we've quickly got dueling armbar submissions. That's it.

3: Panther and Atlantis start off the third fall - well, until Atlantis worms away rather than fight him. So onto Mephisto vs Negro. Negro tries to fool around, mocking Mephisto's horns, but Mep comes back with a nice armdrags. Unfortunately, he follows up by going for a monkey flip way too soon and gets a legdrop. Negro off the ropes, tilt-a-whirl backbreaker has Negro crawling all the way out. Ultimo and Mistico in as we take a look at Tony drawing. Crowd behind Mistico. Mistico off the ropes, clothesline has no effect. Mistico tries again, Ultimo ducks it this time, and gives Mistico a big chokeslam. Whip, Ultimo drops down, Mistico waved by, tumbling run, back with a spinning headscissors. Ultimo rolls out and ducks down, so Mistico holds up, and uses the slingshot shot headscissors. Pose. Tag to Santo, and Averno into face him. Crowd behind Santo. Mephisto is quick in help his partner, but Santo has no problem with either, and Negro eventually comes into even the sides, and set Santo up for his somersault senton (on Mephisto) into a tope (on Averno). Averno shoves Negro out of the ring, but is instead met with Panther. Atlantis gets him with a spinebuster on the first pass and drops elbows. Atlantis yells for Monito to come in and pulls him in, but Monito's walking off. Ultimo grabs him, and tosses him into Atlantis so he can throw him down on Panther. That hurt for everyone. Atlantis poses, thought eh fans don't seem to like it - and neither does Monito, FOUL! Low blow uppercut! Baby Richard questions Monito, but I guess he didn't see it. Negro checks on Monito and pulls him to safety. We check out a replay - that's definitely a foul, though Dr. Morales is going otherwise. Back in the ring, Mistico gets Code Red on Ultimo, but only for two. Mistico trying to draw from the crowd. Ultimo gets him, corner whip, Mistico moves, Ultimo takes the knee bump out - uh oh. HUGE plancha by Mistico and they're both out of it. Negro, Santo, Averno and Peshtigo all in - the rudos sidesteps the tecnicos dropkicks and work them over with chops. Corner whips, reversed, and the champs collide. Santo and Negro trip them up, and put on their trademark moves - this one's over!

Santo makes the post match challenge - Santo & Negro vs Averno & Mephisto for the tag team titles. Averno says they're the best tag team in the world, and Negro laughs and laughs. Mephisto says they're going to prove, by accepting the challenge. Meanwhile, Mistico walks off with Mistico.

Replays, and we're out.
