CMLL Mini Line - 04/29/06 (#221)
Recapped: 07/06/05

Gala skipped a week here. This is the End of Year show, take 1.

Welcome To The Show Vignette: Dr. Wagner and the Teleton Kid. He still has his Shocker shirt.

We're introduced to Tony Albarran, who's going to be doing cartoons at ringside.

Match 1: Atlantis (c), Rey Bucanero, Olimpico vs Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Blue Panther (c)
Arena Mexico, 12/02/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:20
Approx Rating: Too quick.
Other Match Notes: No entrances - well, they were there during the preview, but not here.

1: Guerreros opt to stall and pose instead of starting the match. Are they selling Monito mask now? Wacky. Monito is out with Atlantis, but isn't happy about it. Good sequence of quick counters by Negro and Rey. Olimpico and Heavy seem fine chain wrestling. We take a look at Tony working on Atlantis drawing during this. Panther Atlantis, , and that lasts six seconds before the beatdown starts. Atlantis and Rey hold Panther up for Olimpico's springboard splash, and that's that. Well, officially. They beat up Negro because I don't think they realize Panther's the captain and the refs go along with it. Bucanero Castiga on him and he gets pinned (with the refs counting.) Triple pose! Break.

2: Beatdown's going on the ramp with all six people when the card girl tries to walk that way - so she just doesn't. Smart move. Atlantis is focusing on Panther and his mask. Monito is urging Heavy Metal on, which Atlantis notices and doesn't like. Olimpico and Rey bring Monito in and yell at him. Monito takes off - and Atlantis catches up to him and boots him from behind! Atlantis drags Monito all the way up the stage, and throws him in the direction of backstage! That's harsh. Negro tries to make the save but he's taken care of. Onto 3 on ones - Panther takes a  drop toe hold, but rolls out of the way of the double elbow, and the comeback is on just that quick. Crowd is loud, though I'm not sure for what. Casas brothers each lift up Olimpico and Rey in spinebusters and ram them in each other; not seen that before, I think. They add some dropkicks, and some submission to win it while Panther beats up Atlantis on the ramp. Break.

3: Guerreros hand out on the ramp again and do a lot of pointing and such. Good job spotting the camera, Atlantis. Atlantis and Panther are first, and are good; Panther ahs a nice sliding elbow smash and tope. Rey tries to follow out, and ends up decking Panther with a forearm. Metal after him with a tope con giro, Olimpico after him with a tope - we short on time or something? Olimpico dutiful wanders around the ring into position for the Negro Cass silla. Back to Panther and Atlantis quick. They take turns with spinebusters, and Panther rips up Atlantis' mask good. Atlantis regains enough control to grab Panther's mask - and Panther grabs the arm into an armbar takedown. Fujiwara armbar, and Rey is in quick to break it up. Metal in to take him on - there's the Heavy Punch. Olimpico clotheslines him, Negro shoves Olimpico, we've got all six in. And that doesn't last long - rudos all get their finishes at once! Great finish to a longer match. Atlantis manages to rip off Panther's mask post match.

Stellar Moments
Sensational:
Valiente flattens Super Comando with a springboard tope con giro
Admirable: Volador Spanish Fly on Misterioso. He really needs a name for that!
Rudo: Sangre catches Volador with a dropkick as he tries a plancha.

Match 2: Perro Aguayo Jr. (c), Hector Garza, Tarzan Boy vs Mistico, Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Dos Caras Jr.
Arena Mexico, 12/02/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:52
Approx Rating: Angle more than a match.
Other Match Notes:
Wagner gets fireworks. But then so does Tarzan Boy. He's not wearing the shirt. Everyone's getting fireworks, maybe I just wasn't paying attention to the first two guys. Did Perro's fireworks only work 3/4ths the way or was that the desired effect? One can never know. Perro wanders towards the crowd during introductions. Ah, he's met a small child and has a Televisa microphone - this must be something they did for the telethon.

1: Crowd chanting for Wagner. Sudden break before we really get started. (:20)

1 (take 2): Beatdown just as we rejoin. Perro breaks records in the Mistico toss competition, and then Mistico is so rude, not getting back up for him. There's a clip to the 1 on three parts, though it's not really the much team work as it is people taking their shirts off. They take turns working over Wagner. Mistico jumps on Garza's back, and isn't quite effective. Tarzan enjoys flapjacking him. Crowd rallies around Mistico, for as much good as its' going to do him, and Perro gets so angry, he beats up the turnbuckle. Weirdest sequence ever time: Perro, standing on the apron holds Mistico (still in the ring) for Garza to do whatever with. Except he never gets the chance, because Tarzan runs him over for the chance to beat up Mistico first. Tarzan continues running to the ropes and bounces back. In the mean time, Mistico's broken free (guess Perro was as distracted by the Tarzan/Garza thing as the rest of us), and there's no possible reason Tarzan should still be running to hit Mistico. Tarzan indeed stops running, looks at Mistico, and then dropkicks Perro off the apron anyway! Either Tarzan the worker has a terrible moment, or Tarzan the character does a terrible job of sneakily turning on his partners, but that came out of nowhere. Tarzan acts shocked, and ends up getting knocked own Mistico in route to a tornillo on Perro. Simultaneous finishes to end the fall. Obviously, Perro would like to have a word with Tarzan, but we don't see much of it. It still seems like Tarzan's going with the idea of it being just a normal mistimed double team, but it sure didn't look that way. Meanwhile, Tony's already finishing up his drawing. Break.

2: Crowd chants for Mistico. Match has settled own into one one ones, with Mistico having no problem with Tarzan. His partners have dropped off the apron, so I guess they're not buying his excuse. Hector teases attacking Mistico as he poses, but backs off when he sees Wagner and Dos coming into pose with him. Perro is still not buying Tarzan's line. I don't blame him. Tarzan makes the "he's crazy" motion behind Perro's back - dude, didn't you know? Bad clip here - one minute Dos is standing, next he's on the mat. HE and Garza have the next sequence. Garza refuses to allow this to become 2-1 - well, at least with Wagner's the two. Crowd chants for Wagner anyway. Garza dares Wagner to come in when the refs are looking the other way, and gets the refs to yell at him when he does. Garza takes a big monkey flip. Dos gets Garza with a tilt-a-a whirl backbreakers. Tarzan is able to superkick him and backdrop him out, but Tarzan catches the pescado attempt and slams him on the floor. Long look at Perro not doing anything. Tags to Wagner and Perro. Crowd chants for Wagner. Perro drops him with a chest slap, but Wagner gets back up. Again, and again - and then Wagner finally juts kicks Perro down. Perro gets up, and goes nuts towards al the tecnicos, but doesn't really make much hay. Whip, reversed, Wagner powerslam, dropkick to knock Perro out. Pose - no, Garza dropkicks him from behind and mocks the pose! Gaza and Wagner go back and forth, with Wagner teasing pulling Garza trunks, but instead just pulling him out the hard way. Meanwhile, Tarzan and Perro are having another argument - Tarzan looks like he wants out of here. Perro goes in instead, and gets Mistico. Perro's not really happy with how his day is going. Perro gets the early advantage, but gets Mistico running, and that's always a bad mistake. Garza cuts Mistico off with a kick to the back of the leg, but only after Perro's been armdragged a bunch. Garza slams Mistico and yells at the tecnicos some. Perro and Garza work together on Mistico, but it backfires when Perro holds Mistico (while still on his knees), and Garza tries to punt him, only for Garza to move and Perro to take the kick to the face. Tarzan feels validated. Mistico gets the better of Garza, dropkicking him towards Tarzan. Garza takes a swing towards Tarzan, and as they ell at each other, Mistico topes Perro into the front row. Dos in, with a missile dropkick on Dos. Crowd shot - clip? Dos heads up, and planchas Garza. That leaves Wagner and Tarzan in. Wagner wins the strike battle, and gets a two count powerslam. They battle for a while, and then Tarzan just gives himself up. Wagner's as confused as everyone, but eventually pins - one two three.  He's not captain, but I guess they're going with it. Tarzan gives the Perros thumbs down as he gets a chant. Perros now really want to have word with him - and beat him down on the outside. HE could use some help form the guys in the last match just about now, but seems to be on his own. Tecnicos form this match just let the rudos go at it, and Tarzan escapes once only to get stomped down again before making to the back. Break.

Tarzan reappears - with Rey Bucanero backup. Now the Perros back up to the ring. Replays.

Match 3: Halloween vs Universo 2000 in a hair match
Arena Mexico, 12/02/05

  1. Halloween crossface (:36)
  2. Universo arm/leg submission (1:27)
  3. Universo black hammer (10:17)

Winner: Universo (2-1)
Match Time: 12:20
Approx Rating: About what I expected, which was much.
Other Match Notes:
Mascara Año 2000 is Universo's backup. Damian, without a neck brace, is Halloween. Halloween is wearing an Eddie Guerrero shirt and points to the sky on the way to the ring. Fight begins the moment Halloween makes it to the ring.

1: Halloween ends up spearing Universo thru the ropes onto the ramp, beating him up there, and bringing him back in with a clothesline. Graphics. Whip, spinebuster, double dropkick. F5 into a Crossface. Universo's holding out quite a while, but not forever. (:36) Announcers discuss the Eddie Guerrero shirt. Replays.

2: Halloween still in control. Whip, backdrop, senton one two no. Crowd chanting something, but not very loudly. Corner whip, corner clotheslines. WE flash back to the Black Hammer on Damián that set this up. Spinning headlock takedown by Halloween. Whip, and another. Halloween goes much too far in borrowing WWE moves, and steals the chinlock. Chops. Halloween tires another headlock takedown, but Universo gets him in a drop toe hold, keeps the scissors on one leg, and chickenwings the opposite arm. That's enough for this fall.  (1:27) Not quite epic openings.

3: Halloween is still being cheeked over by Damián on the outside when the third fall starts. Halloween walks with a limp here, and Universo attacks the knee with a dropkick as he comes in. Half crab - Halloween gets the bottom rope, but Universo' taking his time. Tony sees this one ending with a back hammer. In the ring, Universo adds a dropkick to Halloween's head. Crowd getting loud for the first time. Halloween grabbing his knee, but getting up to the apron - just in time to take a suplex. Senton, cover one two no. Dramatic three counts are in effect. Grounded crucifix cradle, one two no. Universo complains about the count. Universo with a slap to the back, and dropkick to the chest. Crowd is much quieter than the previous matches. Jackknife cover one two hand on the rope. Slam, and Universo starts to head up. The fans aren't sure, but he goes to the middle rope as we take a look at the telethon kid. Second rope senton misses, Halloween land a senton of his own, one two no. Halloween with a whip, corner clotheslines. Halloween backs all the way up, charges, and spears the post. Halloween falls to the outside, and Mascara Año works him over with slaps to the back. Mascara holds him and Universo gets running - tope, but Damián pulls his partner out of the way, and Universo collides with his brother. Halloween sets up Universo on the floor, and heads back in - slip and slide splash meets knees! Both men down on outside, so it's time for some replays. Universo in first, but Halloween behind him and pulling him in a cavernaria. Universo refuses to give. Universo suplexes Halloween, one two no. Slam, yet another senton, and Universo slowly head up. Dr. Morales is yelling no, but Universo does it - splash comes up empty, Halloween on top, one two Mascara yanks him out. That's it for Mascara - he's being ejected. Mascara tries to find a way to attack Halloween on the way out, but Comissioner Scorpio is there to make sure he leaves. Universo questions the decision, but still manages to get the battle for Halloween with strikes. Whip, quick reverse, kick, Halloween sit down powerbomb one two NO. There's ad for the Super Bowl with a matchup of Seattle vs Philadelphia; I know I'm misunderstanding something. Halloween corner whip, reversed, Universo knocks him down with a running knee. Universo on top one two Damian pulls out Universo. Well, now he's gone. Damián seems hocked and upset about such things, but security drags him off. Back in the ring, Halloween spears Universo one two NO. Both men pull themselves up. Exchange of open hand slaps, and then Universo kicks Halloween and picks him up. Tombstone? No, the ref breaks it up again. As I figured, Perro Aguayo Jr.  is out. The ref is more concerned with him then the match, which allows Universo and Halloween to both try to cheat; Universo tries a standard piledriver, Halloween blocks, and Halloween gives Universo a modified Vertabreaker. is Halloween going for the ref? Now, he's going for the steps. The commission won't let him have it. Perro retreats to the back, now that distraction is down, and Halloween heads up. Top rope elbow drop one two NO. Halloween whip, reversed, kick, Black Hammer - and the ref's letting it go! This is a call back to the mask match, I guess. One two three. (10:17) Big reaction to the finish.

Halloween ain't moving. The doctor checks on him while Universo cuts a triumphant promo. Confetti? Perro's back out, which gives Universo a chance to point out he's the only one left. The barber cuts off Halloween's hair as he's being fit for the neck brace - they're not messing around. Perro promises to do the hair match - when they come back to Arena Mexico after the break. Speaking of break...

Next Week: Mistico, Hijo del Santo, Tarzan Boy, Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Universo 2000, Olimpico, Kenzo Suzuki, Ultimo Dragon, Ultimo Guerrero, Averno, Mephisto

Replay of the Black Hammer, which looked just as much a piledriver as always. They break out the Hammer graphic. Replay of Halloween gets his hair cut, and being taken to an ambulance. Let's look at Tony's picture - yep, the black hammer busting Halloween.
