CMLL GDR - 01/28/06 (#9)

Julio introduces the show.

This week, Olimpico is the featured wrestler in Outside Of the Ring. All of his answers are one word, which kinda makes it hard to follow if you don't immediately know what word he's saying.

La Mascara tells us to keep watching.

Match 1: Amapola (c), Hiroka, La Nazi vs Dark Angel (c), India Sioux, Sahori
Arena Mexico, 01/20/06

  1. Amapola reversed 'rana with ropes Dark Angel

Winner: Rudas
Match Time: 13:51
Approx Rating: Fine, though not enough to sell me on this idea.
Other Match Notes: Dark Angel enters to cover of Beautiful People. The entrance video spells it Sahory, while the still says Sahori. So no one knows. India Sioux has a SPEAR. A sparkly spear, at that. Amapola wears her IWRG belt, though the ring announcer calls her national champion. I think Lady Apache has that belt. I should know La Nazi's song but don't. All the women have entrance videos, which means someone must've done them by the truckload or is doing them on a regular basis, because this is India's debut in Arena Mexico. I am so far behind, this is actually the first women's match I've seen of this group. This is a one fall match, which I wasn't aware of until the screen said "Una Caida". I briefly forget what Una meant, because I'm dumb.

Captains start. Lockup, Angel with a waistlock, switch, and switch again into a Dark Angel full nelson. The B-Team announce crew is doing this match, which is unusual for Arena Mexico matches. This match apparently did not air on the Gala version, so maybe they figured out this was going to GdR ahead of time, which would be wild and crazy. Dark Angel swings in front for a snap mare, and celebrates. This is not yet the speed we're used to for men. Amapola get a single leg, and then a rolls her over, and gets back bridge pin. One two no. Dark Angel up with an armbar, and takes Amapola down with a hipblock takeover, and then rolls her over for a pin. One two no. Armbar still on, and they get back up. Amapola reveres with a takedown, and then we view the match from a far angle which makes it hard to watch. Amapola has the legs tied, and she's elbowing Dark Angel's back, but Dark Angel is able to pull her into a headlock. Front facelock, cranking it in. Amapola gets a back hell trip to pry Dark Angel loose. There's the double wristlock leverage spot, with Dark Angel managing to flip herself to the middle ropes, and come off with a spinning delayed armdrag. Dark Angel tries a clothesline, but Amapola catches her in an armbar, and gives her a hipblock takeover. Picking her up and trying again, but Dark Angel blocks. They complete for splashes, and do a zero pin the referees don't even bother to count. Dark Angel manages a headstand bodyscissors into an armdrag (which might have been meant to be something else), and inside cradle for one. No hint as towards a tag, as Amapola spears Dark Angel down for a two count. Both up and shoving. Now going face to face. Dark Angel shoves Amapola again, and they agree to disagree. High ten tag to India Sioux, who comes into face La Nazi.

India's not got the size advantage, but she's ahead of La Nazi in other ways. Circle. La Nazi with a single leg, off the ropes, over, snap mare, by La Nazi. A set if India Sioux agility spots here, followed by La Nazi out powering her with reverse hammerlock/front facelock combo- even adding a backwards roll to drape India's lower body. La Nazi lets India up, which is a bad move, but brings her down hard with an armdrags. Armbar on the mat, flipping her over into a fujiwara armbar. At least in the first minute, La Nazi's a better wrestler than I thought. India gets rolled over for a two count, and then another. Back up, circling, and India tries a clothesline but it's easily blocked. La Nazi pumphandles her, but India lands on her fete on tilt-a-whirl. Nazi tries to push her down, but gets pulled into an armdrag. India waits till La Nazi is up - and then there are tags.

Hiroka and Sahori are facing each, which is like every day ever for them. Lockup, break. Lockup, Sahori with an over the shoulder armdrag, and a hiptoss, and still holding onto the arm for an armdrag. Sahori waits for Hiroka to get up, and kicks hers in the midsection. Front facelock and stomping in it, which gives me flashbacks to the worst of WOW. Hiroka spins out to escape and givers her knees to the midsection, followed by a hair pull bulldog. Corner whip, Hiroka charges in, and kinda kicks her, but more just gets a boot choke in. Hiroka finds herself funny, and half shoves one of the refs. That seems unwise. Hiroka corner whips Sahori towards the rudas, who boot Sahori down, and then storm the ring. I guess we're getting the three fall story even if we're not getting the three falls. Triple teaming Sahori - triple powerbomb on her. India in, and La Nazi accidentally loses her on the setup for the powerbomb, so they have to cover and it's not good enough that you don't notice. Double spinebuster, Hiroka with a somersault senton. Dark Angel in, and she gets in a few shots before the numbers get her. Whip, and Hiroka boots her down. Amapola gives her a Gory Bomb (which the cameras misses), and apparently that makes Dark Angel feel better because she's immediately able to roll out of the way of a La Nazi second rope splash. Must fit in the comeback! Sahori gets a jumping Stunner on Amapola, and Amapola sells it better (or at least more US-like) then most of the men I've seen take it. India's tilt-a-whirl back breaker on Hiroka, not quite as good. All three fights spill out of the ring, with Dark Angel doing ax handle off the apron, and there's a complete out of no where break right here.  (7:48)

Leobardo talks to Atlantis and Ultimo Guerrero about the big match later.

Satanico and his CMLL-scratch logoed T-Shirt tell us to keep watching.

Comeback picks up right where they stopped the tape machines. La Nazi managed to get the better of Sahori when we weren't looking. They come in the ring, and La Nazi brains her with a clothesline to the back of the head. Whip, big flapjack. Sahori manages toe scrape a corner charge to get a monetarily advantage, following up with an armdrag off the top rope. She celebrates to much and gets a boot from La Nazi, but La Nazi throws herself out of the ring while trying a punch. Sahori gets visible assistance in setting up the off the apron spinning headscissors, and Sahori comes right back in to do a celebratory dive. We're into the "third" fall, with the tecnicas winning all the one on one encounters. Next up is Amapola and India Sioux, who shows off a double jump 'rana and a cartwheel before Amapola trips her up and drops her with a running sit while she's on the ropes. India recovers immediately to pull of an armdrag out of a fireman's carry and a running Tornado DDT. Dive? no. Dark Angel and Hiroka in. Hiroka tries a dropkick, which is fine, and a chinlock, which is just wrong. The idea is she's actually choking her out. Dark Angel gets beat up a lot before her comeback, gets a headlock, gets dropped with a back suplex, and hangs onto the headlock. Spots include a front flip off Hiroka's back, a headscissors into an armdrag (I think.) Amapola cuts off her dive with a kick to the back, but Sahori gets in a Silla on Hiroka anyway. It breaks down form there - Amapola comes in, La Nazi gets knocked off the apron and takes a plancha from India in between moves in the ring. Dark Angel loads Amapola in a reverse Torture Rack, runs, and drops ('bombs' in theory - Amapola turns onto her back before impact) her down to the mat for two. Amapola grabs her by the hair before she can do more, and pulls her into Maven's Finisher, which maybe should be called the two knee backbreaker for two. Dark Angel slips free from an Angel Wings attempt (oh, the possible irony), and they exchange slaps to the face. Dark Angel comes off the ropes, only to be tripped up by La Nazi,. Dark Angel is distracted, Amapola gets a waistlock rollup, Dark Angel rolls thru, and bridges back one two no. What's with actual false finishes? Dark Angel 'rana, Amapola rolls thru, and hooks the outside rope one two three. (6:03, 13:51 total) Yea, I can see why that was one fall. OH WAIT. All the women argue over things they should he arguing about now. Camera work did a great job of showing the ropes usage and the refs inability to pick it up.

Leobardo - talks to himself while laying on the mat? I think he's mocking Mistico again.

Match 2 Atlantis (c), el Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero vs Heavy Metal, Negro Casas, Mistico (c)
Arena Coliseo, 01/22/06

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:04
Approx Rating: 86. Fun, with everyone looking good or kept to a minimum. Metal didn't get in much, but looked as good as he's been.
Other Match Notes: They've decided that Olimpico needs an el in front of his name. Watch me never remember. Monito is with Mistico. Heavy Metal has one of his older race car themed outfits (or at least one that seems that way) and a cape, which is a different look than lately. Atlantis pulls Mistico out of the ring, and posts him hard. He clears the front row so Mistico can visits the chairs - and the fans yell at him to leave Mistico alone. This works! Negro checks on Mistico while Heavy Metal does - nothing.

Mistico actually is fine enough to start the match, but now all six are in so that might happen. Mistico leaves to chase after Atlantis on the outside - Atlantis has the rudo bell to defends himself! Mistico doesn't like those odds - and Atlantis belts him with the bell! He's done for sure. Atlantis stomps to make sure he won't be getting up. This time, Mistico's ended up a bunch of guys in Ultimo Guerreros masks, so they won't be complaining. The other four people in this match are just kinda standing around watching. Negro eventually goes over and pulls Mistico to his corner. Ultimo continues with high fives for Atlantis. Crowd still chanting for Mistico. Okay, Ultimo and Negro will actually start the wrestling. Circle. They change the chant to Negro, which pleases him and not so much Ultimo. It sounds like a ton of kids. Lockup, Ultimo with an armdrag. Standoff. Negro back up and circling.  Lockup, Ultimo with an armdrag again. Negro's uncertain about this. Look at all the Ultimo Guerrero fans! They're smart people. Lockup, Negro blocking the armdrag the whole way, Ultimo eventually getting a full nelson, Negro with a reverse to his own, Ultimo with a reverse to his own, Negro with a switch and trips Último to the mat, Último gets an armbar, and Negro armdrags him. Both guys are grabbing body parts, and since Negro's gotten his armdrag, he'll tag out. Ultimo hangs out with his fans. Olimpico and Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal appears to have been doing the same workouts as Olimpico's been doing. Circle. Metal with an armdrag, zero count trip, armdrag by Olimpico.  Olimpico wants the crowd to chant for him, but I don't think so. Olimpico trips up Metal, rolls him, Metal trips him up, rolls him back, , Olimpico's clothesline gets armdragged, and Metal's ready for some more. Tags. Atlantis is happy to get in, until Mistico back flips right in front of him.  Atlantis tells the crowd to shut up, but they refuse to listen to him. Monito comes in to to challenge Atlantis, and Atlantis does not approve. Mistico complains to Monito that he's showing him up. , I think. Monito goes back to the corner, and Mistico and Atlantis exchange words. Atlantis slaps Mistico in the face, and slaps him down. Stomps. Atlantis is yelling at the crowd again, but Monito's waiting for him to turn around so he can take him on. Atlantis kicks him down! Atlantis don't put up with any mouth monkeys. More stomps for Mistico, and a punch for Heavy Metal for invading his personal space.  Atlantis celebrates with the rudos, and walks back over to Mistico, only to get superkicked. That happens a lot! Mistico off the ropes, handspring for no reason, running again, and a twisting headscissors. Atlantis' clothesline is blocked, Mistico grabs, pulls and gets the Mexican armdrag. Dive? No, just at ease - Atlantis pushes the camera out of the way moving to safety, and that backfires - Metal apron dive somersault body block! The other four all in the ring, and it's ending quick: Casas Special on Olimpico, and the ref counts three just as Mistico's getting the submission off La Mistica on Ultimo. (5:38) Mistico's thrilled. Replays. Break.

We return with Heavy Metal in the ring, looking for someone to fight. Luckily, Ultimo's back elbows him down before one of the refs has to take part. Whip, Heavy Metal handspring (and a big one) back elbow, cover for zero on the way out to the apron, springboard armdrag back in. Ultimo slides out, Olimpico tries to ambush him with a senton, but no good. Metal off the ropes, Olimpico drops down, and Metal stops short and elbow drops him. Metal off the ropes, and dropkicking Olimpico in the head. He's out of the ring, Atlantis is in and elbowing Metal. Atlantis is jumping. Chest slaps keep Metal at bay, and Atlantis is able to duck a punch, but not evade a kick. Crowd shot clip here - wonder what happened? Metal and Atlantis are just leaving. Negro in, and Olimpico tries to take him on. Olimpico wants a posse off, and then a test of strength - so when Negro reaches, Olimpico can chest slap him. Shove in to the corner, but Olimpico's too busy taunting to follow-up. Okay, test of stretching wristlock for real, but Olimpico's still chest slapping Negro down throughout. Short clothesline just to stop him. Chops by Olimpico. Whip, reversed into a sleeper by Negro, and then into a swinging neckbreaker. Olimpico kicks him, and pulls off his own swinging neckbreaker. Big boot kicks Negro back, but he stays on his feet. Olimpico tires again, and Negro catches it, then knocks Olimpico down and breaks his leg over his knee. Ultimo in, and his kick is caught as well, but Ultimo manages to chop his way out of it. Ultimo off the ropes, clothesline but Negro is still standing. Crowd shot. Negro dares him to do it one more. Ultimo off the ropes, Negro ducks the clothesline and dropkicks him in the knee. Tag out to Metal. Atlantis calls for a time out and drops to the floor - where Mistico goes after him. They brawl in front of the crowd, with Mistico getting posted again. Metal's evidently distracted by this, judging by how easy it is for Olimpico to dropkick him, and then post Negro. Ultimo boot chokes Monito! While the rest of the beatdown is going on, Ultimo brings in Monito, and slams him to the mat. That's harsh. Atlantis has Mistico in, and is spinebustering him down. Every rudo is working on their own man, and they're all in the ring.  Now they work together and do the GdA sit on Metal. People in the crowd give a thumbs up. There's the double submission with Mistico's legs tied underneath Heavy Metal's arms - they're both being stretched, and Ultimo adds to it by spinning them around - that does it. (4:34) Último keeps on spinning, and lets them fly to the mat. That's fun. Atlantis brings in a GdA ban, lays it on top of Mistico and stomps the banner into Mistico! Hitting him with the banner! this seems very illegal. Replays of Monito violence and other things. Break.

Rudos are doing the huddle dance as fall three starts. Negro's trying to roll out of the ring to safety, and Mistico's down on the outside. Metal's at least walking around. Monito's down too. Tecnicos try to rally - Mistico's getting pumped up by the crowd. Atlantis gets out of the ring and knocks down Mistico with a running forearm, clobbering a photographer standing behind Mistico in the process. Atlantis realizes it, feels bad for a sec, wallops Mistico with a boot, looks at the women photog again (he's being helped) and brings Mistico in the ring. The camera prevents us from seeing, but I think Atlantis checks that the woman is not very hurt before coming in. Mistico gets a corner whip, and makes Mistico Comeback #1 - step around and in front of charging attack, double boot other charging attackers, cartwheel into backflip over their double clothesline, duck under another double clothesline, and start superkicking everyone. The Casas still aren't in - messing with Olimpico? waiting for Mistico to get done hitting his posts? - so Atlantis has to play zombie while Mistico drop toe holds Ultimo into the ropes and hits the 619. Atlantis feeds himself into the drop toe hold to take his own 619, and then begs off when Mistico want to punch him. Negro and Metal are leisurely watching on the apron - guess they figure Mistico's got it covered. Mistico beats Atlantis around the ring, and goes for his mask. That's Negro and Metal's cue - they take up positions to defends Mistico, and then Negro gets into a shoving match with a referee for some reason. Metal launches himself thru the ropes to dropkick Olimpico down, and is very pleased about. Atlantis escapes and heads out of the ring, but Último trips up Mistico before he can dive. Último in and on him - Casas brothers back on the apron watching again - and Ultimo launches him with the super flapjack. Crowd chants for Mistico as he recovers. Whip, Mistico just slides out. That makes sense. Referees start to count out the tecnicos, so Heavy comes in, and is met with chops. Corner whip, Último close behind with a clothesline, corner whip, Ultimo father behind, and pays for it, taking the knee bump to the floor. MONITO TOPE! Último catches him and sits him down, but Monito squirms away before Ultimo can stomp him like a bump. Ultimo chases Monito around the corner, and right in line for a Negro Silla. A cameraman almost gets taken out because they don't see it coming. In the ring, but not for long, is Olimpico - Metal clothesline him out, and launches on him with a slingshot top con giro! Mistico and Atlantis are in, and both are going nuts in different ways. Mistico off the ropes, La Mistica - but Atlantis slips free of the armbar? That looked weird.  Atlantis back suplexes Mistico, Mistico lands on his feet, and Atlantis falls to the mat, claiming a low blow!  HE about rolls over the referee going selling it , and the referee questions Mistico. Mistico and the fans scream no, but Rafael Maya apparently asks the wrong person - and awards the DQ! (3:52) Atlantis celebrates for the briefest second before convulsing in pain once again. SECRET THUMBS UP TO THE CAMERA! Oh my gosh, Atlantis is awesome. Atlantis sticks his tongue out at our rules. Replays.

Atlantis celebrates with Leobardo. Atlantis mocks Mistico. Olimpico says it's obvious that Los Guerreros won. Ultimo says they're way above their competition. Leobardo raises their arms in victory.

Leobardo now talks to Mistico, who's furious about what took place. Leobardo can't believe Mistico would low blow Atlantis, but somehow, Mistico thinks there was no low blow. He wants revenge. Leobardo says it was completely clear Mistico fouled him, and storms off. One more replay of the non-low blow, and we're done.
