CMLL Mini Line - 01/28/06 (#202)

Match 1: Apocalipsis, Arkangel, Dr. X (c) vs Texano Jr., Zayco, Tony Rivera (c)
Arena Coliseo, 07/19/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:02
Approx Rating: Average. Nothing special.
Other Match Notes: I believe this is Zayco's debut in a TV match; oddly enough, he's a tecnico here, filling it for Holocausto (which really doesn't sound like a tecnico gimmick to start with but whatever.) It's Apocalipsis' debut under this gimmick, but you've been seeing him for months as Koreano. No entrances.

Texano and Dr. X start. Lots of lockups getting us nowhere. I can't tell if I'm just imagining it or if just the opponents, but Texano looks much bigger than I'm used to. Mat wrestling once they get going. They do really get going much before they stop and start shoving each other. Tags? Yea. Tony and Arkangel. Rowdy tecnico fans switch chants to Tony pretty easily. Clip as Tony and Ark and exchanging chops, right into a Zayco/Apocalipsis sequence. More mat wrestling. Their timing isn't great and ends bad, with Zayco walking to his corner to tag out, and Apocalipsis dropkicking him, which Zayco doesn't really sell because he's tagged out. Texano teaks his place and looks better. Tony and Texano team up, getting Apocalipsis with a double flapjack, and Zayco adds a springboard dropkick and then launches himself with a slingshot tope on Apocalipsis. Tony and Texano get the better of the other two, although they do a bad job of showing it. Eh. (5:31)  Break

Fall two is in progress as we turn. Ark and Tony, and Tony looks good. Ark really shouldn't pick the moment after he's taken a faceslam to fix his elbow pads. He's armdragged to the floor, and Tony tease a dive. Zayco quickly gets the better of Apocalipsis - their sequence might last 15 seconds. Dr X trips Texano when he's trying for a headlock, and Texano armdrags him while on the mat. Hiptoss and chops. Dr. X slows him down kicks, but Texano comes back with a jumping snap mare and whole lot of armdrags. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker to rush him out. CLIP. Ark gives a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker to Arkangel. Crowd is loud for someone reason. Another crowd shot, and I guess Apocalipsis did something to Texano. Ark helps get rid of him, and the beatdown is on. Zayco gets a double axhandle to the midsection by Ark and Dr. X. Tony's next to get beaten around. Climax for him is being tied in the corner, and Dr. X dropkicking him questionably low. Texano rallied back on a bad corner whip on his own, flipping to the apron and forearming people at they charge. He makes the mistake of going up, and Dr. X stops him - hangman spinning neckbreaker, and that's that. (4:06) They get a submission on Zayco too, but it doesn't really matter. Replays, as the announcers debate the dropkick - replays show Dr. X kicked him in his tights. After a long bit of post fall, there's a break.

Beatdown does NOT go onto the third fall - they just go back to another Apocalipsis/Zacyo one on one, which at least starts as the best of them so far, but doesn't last much either - Zayco quickly clothesline them both out. Ark and Texano in. Ark sends Texano out with a rolling back elbow, and lands the top rope plancha, though Texano almost caught him. Ark holds Texano for Dr. X to dive at, but Tony cuts him off with a backdrop, Texano switches places, and Tony topes Dr. X. Dr. X makes up for it by stomping Zayco in the mat, and grabbing Tony as he comes in. Dr. X sets up Tony for a Apocalipsis missile dropkick, which works - well enough for three. (1:20) Dr. X sets up Zayco in a rowing your boat submission - that's it, I need access to better names. Rudos bring Arkangel back in and celebrate.

Match 2: Tarzan Boy (c), Averno, Mephisto vs Heavy Metal, Dos Caras Jr. (c), Negro Casas
Arena Mexico, 07/22/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: Okay.
Approx Rating: 15:31
Other Match Notes: No entrances. My more immediate concern is trying to figure out why my sock is wet. Proceed normally. We do get the ring introduction, and no pre-match attack. Rudos talk over strategy before they get started.

It'll be Averno on and Negro once they get it sorted it. Crowd chants NEG RO. Usual mat opening. Usual good stuff. Mephisto vs Metal next and is fine, even if they do the zero leg trips. Dos gets a bit of everyone - Averno gets monkey flipped into the ropes, so Mephisto comes into stick up for him. They do a corner sunset flip for zero (which is odd) and Mephisto recovers to monkey flip Dos. Dos is supposed to land on his feet, but doesn't come close, and the fans - much harsher than usual since the Elektro show - boo, ignoring the next set of moves. Powerslam for Mephisto, Averno comes off the top and is caught, and a German for him. (5:24)  Metal walks in and calmly gets a step over armbar on Mep, and that's it. (5:25) Tarzan walks out rather than deal with Negro. Is there a bear in the crowd? Break.

Return for replays. And then another break? What a show.

Amazingly, they didn't clip out a fall or anything. We better have some long segments coming up. Tarzan and Negro in - I believe Tarzan's laugh and Negro's shorts. No, his triceps. Heavy Metal offers to show off his triceps, but no. Negro figures the best way to solve the powerbomb is to forearm Tarzan in the had. Later, a Negro shoulderblock won't budge Tarzan because he's so powerful, but he can dropkick him down. Tarzan's aghast that he would do such a thing. Heavy in, facing Averno. Heavy taking his time talking to this crowd. We're not quite bringing in the intensity here this week. Atlantis' tilt-a-whirl backbreaker makes everyone else look bad. The crowd is chanting HEAV E for most of his segment, but when Heavy cups his ear after his sequence, the chant isn't there and one guy (who may be a rudo fan or a rudo himself) boos. Heavy gives the crowd a ticked off expression, and you get the impression he's not the most pleasant guy. The fans respond with boos and Heavy throws up his hands, tagging out. Mephisto and Dos in now. Are we going to do the beatdown? Not yet, because Dos gets a good tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. That's a pain to type. Dos works in the enziguri when Mephisto is facing away from him - which would actually make it not a enziguri, huh. Beatdown is on right then, and with almost no resistance. Negro takes some effort to knockdown, but does he goes. Tarzan goes with Dos as the tag champs take the Casas Brothers. Heavy's eventually brought in and worked over by Mep and Averno a little bit, but it's not till Heavy that all the rudos get together. Averno and Mephisto hold up Heavy on their shoulders, and Tarzan, uh, trips coming off the top rope! He looked like a complete fool and everyone saw it, but at least he didn't get hurt. Crowd goes wild and Tarzan shots bad things at them. Heavy is dropped, stomped and thrown out. Dos in, and corner clothesline for him. Tarzan suplexes the bigger man, and the champs add their now double top rope headbutt (patent pending!). That's do it. (5:28) Fans give Tarzan the business for his goof. Are they going to show a replay of it? No, only the headbutts. How odd.

No commercial break leading into the third fall. Mephisto holds Negro for Averno to chest slap down. Tarzan gets in a boot scrape. Make a wish. Negro's literally kicked out of the ring, and as Dos tries to get at Tarzan, Mephisto posts Metal. Tarzan holds Dos in the middle of the ring for a double top rope axhandle to his back, but Dos pulls Tarzan in the way and he takes it. Dos ducks a Averno clothesline and kicks him, while Mephisto staggers around waiting for someone to hit him. Revenge time for the tecnicos, Averno and Negro in the ring the rest outside it. Negro gets Averno in a reverse figure four and Metal dropkicks him in the head, and then tecnicos decide they've had enough and go one on. Dos celebrates, and charges into a Tarzan back elbow. Whip, Tarzan puts his head down too soon, Dos jogs around him, waits till he turns around, and gives him the enziguri. Dos eventually gets Tarzan out with a springboard dropkick, and follows him there - no hands over the top tope! Casas brothers knock Averno down, but miss a double clothesline on Mep. Negro turns and lands a dropkick to the knee on Mep, Metal tries a La Majistral, but Averno breaks it up. Negro takes Metal's place, and Averno kicks him too before he can get going. Mep powerbomb on Negro, (4:37) and Averno Devil Wings on Metal (4:38) - wow, that turned quick. Dos comes back in to try and figure out what happened. Replays and break.

Stellar Moments
Spectacular:
Dos does an over the top rope in Arena Coliseo on Olimpico
Llave: Averno and Mephisto tap out Mistico with a double step over armbar
Triumph: Mistico comes back to get La Mistica on Averno, while Blue Panther does other things in the background.
Sensational: Bam Bam does a tope con giro off the guardrails on the ramp - going over two rows of the crowd in the process
Admirable: Marcela lands a silla on Amapola. Lady Apache waves at the camera.

Vignette: Garza and Perro talk in the hallway - Perro want to know what the deal was with last week. Garza thinks Pierroth is a traitor. Perro seems to want to give him one more chance, but promises punishment.

Match 3: Universo 2000 (c), Apolo Dantes, Mascara Magica vs Hijo de Perro Aguayo (c), Hector Garza, Pierroth
Arena Mexico, 07/22/05

  1. Universo
  2. Universo

Winner: Universo (2-0)
Match Time: 12:05
Approx Rating: Short and angle-rific.
Other Match Notes: They keep playing the Capos music for Mascara Magica, but I think it's because they can't turn it off. Perro's entrance video is great. Pierroth comes out lagging behind his partners, and want to know why he didn't get the Perros del Mal shirt they have. He's confused, but doesn't want any problem - just wants to know what's up. [break here] Perro and Pierroth discuss, and wouldn't you know it, that leaves Hector alone to get punked out by the Capos. Odd how that worked out.

Perros actually are able to take control of the beatdown, but Hector wants nothing to do with Pierroth and shoves him away when comes over to help. This is so not going to work,. Pierroth ignores them and gets in his own clothesline when they're setting it up. Perro leaves the rings and takes out his anger on Mascara Magica. Pierroths stands watching as Garza beats up Universo. Garza and Pierroth have an argument, and then a shoving match. Perro wanders back in and talks it over with Pierroth. Apolo tries to get a cheap shot in, but he's quickly stopped. Perro has a heck of a chop. Perro leaves the ring to beat up Universo on the floor, and Garza watches while Pierroth beats up Apolo. Garza decides to slide out and attack Magica some, but then steals Apolo away from Pierroth to do his own clothesline. Ad for Satanico/Pierroth for hairs in Puebla here. Garza goes for a cover over Apolo, but Pierroth pulls him off. Perro seems to miss this, though he's in the area. Pierroth works over Magica (who Perro was just working on) and Garza steps in his way to work on Magica instead. Universo tries to take advantage of the confusion, but he's stopped. Perro and Garza double clothesline him. Pierroth whips Universo, and La Nazi pulls out Universo when Hector's set up for a clothesline. Perro's angry at HER, and right in her face. She claims she didn't know. Meanwhile, Garza's got Apolo set up - moonsault. One two Pierroth pulls him off again, and I'm sure Perro saw it that time. Perro powerbombs Apolo, and gives him the running double stomp. Perro tells Pierroth pin him, but Pierroth thinks he means "hold him for La Nazi to come in and beat" - uh, what? That's a DQ. (5:08) While this was going on, Garza and Perro had Magica down, and were about to get him to give up to a half crab to end the match, so that wasn't so good. Garza wants to get La Nazi for interfering, but Pierroth's blocking her path. Crowd is signing with Perro and Garza here. Garza and Pierroth shove a bit. Replays of the finish.

Pierroth and Perro are arguing on the floor. More replays. Perro teases punching La Nazi, but Pierroth notices and stops him. Perro's signing with the fans who want La Nazi gone. Beatdown continues on the makeshift Capos, but they're up a fall so I guess it's okay. Magica gets a flurry when the partners start shoving each other, but Perro beats him down like a mad man. While Perro leaves to celebrate, Universo comes in, and he can take Pierroth and Garza - especially if Garza walks out. La Nazi tries to help with a leg pull, but Apolo helps out his partner. Pierroth yells at Perro for walking away, and that's not helping anything. Garza almost gets in a fight to La Nazi, Perro goes back to beating Universo - do it already! Garza goes for his top rope moonsault on Dantes again, we look at Perro (and can see the ropes shaking) and Garza's crotched and being attack by Apolo next thing we see. Did Apolo do it? Comeback is on. Capos beat Pierroth, who's bleeding from a Universo face bite here, and Perro and Garza watch from the apron. La Nazi pleads for them to help, but I don't think it's going to happen. Only after Pierroth is down do they try, and it's doesn't get them anywhere. Capos bring the fight to Perro and instead, and it doesn't go too well. Pierroth comes in again, and manages to reverses Magica 'rana into a powerbomb - for three? (5:24) Gosh, Magica's a huge jobber. Pierroth would like his partners to come back in and help, but they don't seem high on the helping part. Hector goes after Apolo by himself,  Apolo gets a nearfall on a NL Suplex, but Perro breaks it up. Garza holds Apolo for Pierroth to clothesline, and there's no change that'll work at this point. Universo clears Pierroth out of the ring with a dropkick. Perro runs wild again for a bit, but the remaining Capos survive, and there's the catapult into a DVD for three. (6:57) Straight falls.

Universo says the Perros took his brother's hair, and now he want to take one of their hair. Perro starts to respond, but Pierroth steals the microphone - he's the jefe! Perro doesn't take well to that. Pierroth's never been the leader, Perro's been the leader. CLIP here, but the point is Pierroth's gone.

Match 4: Atlantis vs Dr. Wagner Jr. in a NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship match
Arena Mexico, 07/22/05

  1. Wagner crucifix Atlantis (1:11)
  2. Atlantis jacknife cover (2:04)
  3. Atlántida (5:28)

Winner: Atlantis (2-1)
Match Time: 8:43
Approx Rating: Disappointing and lacking. Way too short.
Other Match Notes:
Fans start cheering Wagner as soon as his music plays. One of his two valets holds up the UWA Heavyweight belt, because he's wearing the NWA Light Heavyweight one. Misterioso Jr. is his second, and wearing a Wagner shirt. Atlantis (with Ke Monito and La Mascara) is actually already in the ring - they didn't show his entrance. The referee is wearing a NWA patch on his shirt - that's ridiculously awesome. Fans interrupt the ring announcement because they're chanting for Wagner. Atlantis weighs in at 95 kg (209 lb) and is booed. Harsh. Dr. Wagner is 96 kg (212 lb) and cheered. Atlantis goes on the microphone, and is booed as soon as he talks. He dedicates this match to the kids of Mexico, and they still boo. Man.

Wagner has Atlantis down the first we see of the ring - we're too busy looking at the valets. He picks Atlantis up to snap mare him down, and dropkick him in the head. Atlantis lays on the mat, grabbing his head in immense pain. Wagner does an arrogant Wagner pose. Wagner with a corner whip, charge in, clothesline. Atlantis puts Wagner on the top rope, and pulls him off in kinda a Diamond Cutter. Didn't get a good look on that - got a good luck at Ke Monito instead. Wagner waits for Atlantis to get up, hammerlocks him, and rolls him into a grounded crucifix. (1:11) Oh great, 1 minute falls. Promo for Wagner's show in Torreon on 09/07. Wagner celebrates with the fans as we watch replays.

We miss Wagner taking Atlantis down again while looking at the ring girl, but Wagner's standing above him and celebrating. Wagner picks him up, whip, powerslam, one, no, one two no. Odd. Atlantis adjusts his mask and starts to get up, but Wagner spins him with a dropkick. Abdominal stretch. GRAB THE ROPE. He's close enough but I don't think so - no, he's pulling the leg to make it a suastica. Wagner lets go when it's not getting him anywhere. Wagner is distracted by his own chat here - Misterioso leads it on. Did we just miss Atlantis' comeback by looking at the crowd? Wagner and Atlantis are bouncing off the ropes when we look back, and Wagner runs into an Atlantis monkey flip to resolve it. Another monkey flip, as fans show their disapproval for Atlantis.  There are some cheers, and it's not as loud booing as before. Atlantis misses a  dropkick Wagner tries a clothesline, Atlantis grabs the arm, Wagner tries it with the other, Atlantis grabs it as well, and pulls both arms between Wagner's legs, rolling him on his back and jackknifing him for a cover one two three. (2:04) There are cheers and boos when Atlantis celebrates.  There's people in Atlantis masks, but the Wagner fans are louder - there's that chant again. No break here either.

Both men are standing in their corners when the whistle blows, but Wagner bum rushes Atlantis and knocks him down. Wagner chops him hard. Corner whip, Atlantis kips up and out and armadas Atlantis. Tilt-a-whirl armdrags, tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, Atlantis celebrates to a mixed reaction, leaning towards boos the longer it goes. Atlantis gets a facelock, Wagner tries to put him to the apron, and Atlantis pulls them all the way to the floor. That did not look fun for Wagner. Atlantis back in, running, toping! Misterioso and La Mascara wave their towels. Wagner's recycling on the front row, and the front row is urging him to get back into it. Atlantis could go in, but he's catching his breath. Here's a replay of the dive - Atlantis got just enough. Wagner actually in first - did he pull Atlantis out? Shoulder to Atlantis as he gets to the apron, Wagner tries to post him, Atlantis blocks it, so Wagner clotheslines him with the other arm. Both men are far more tired than you'd suspect from five minutes of action. Wagner tosses Atlantis in, and sets him up - powerbomb. I don't know what's going on, but the sound is now about two seconds ahead of the action.] One two NO. Wagner goes up, looks at the fans, and jumps - top rope splash one two NO. Crowd loud for Wagner, but he can't finish him off. He can wander around waiting for Atlantis to pull himself up, though. Whip, reversed, Wagner grabs the ropes, Atlantis claps, charges, and gets backdropped to the ramp. Wagner turns him in the post, and runs up the ramp. Waiting for Atlantis to get up - tope con giro off the ramp! That's still cool. Both come in the ring separately, Wagner first and pumped. Atlantis charges him, jumps on his shoulder, and gets a bodyscissors cradle, but Wagner reveres it and ends up on top one two NO. Wagner up, Atlantis 'ranas him, Wagner rolls thru one two NO. Look at the crowd. Atlantis tries a bodyscissors cradle, and Wagner face first powerbombs him one two NO. Both slow up. Wagner tires another powerbomb, Atlantis slips out, Wagner misses a clothesline, off the ropes, and right into the Atlántida! The referee is calling it even before Atlantis goes to his knee (and Wagner actually gives up, actually - he's off by a couple seconds.) That's it. (5:28) The first loud reaction is cheers - there's a lot of thrilled people for Atlantis and for a title change - and you can start to hear the boos come in after. It takes a bit, but there's a divided public. Atlantis gets the belt put on him. Is that Scoprio Sr. acting as an official here? I think that's what they just said. Break.

La Mascara, Ke Monito, and Atlantis are posing for group photos. Atlantis is sure happy with his victory, even if a section of the crowd is not (and Atlantis is totally ignoring that section right now.) Wagner's got the microphone - he says Atlantis beat him tonight, so on 09/16, they'll have a mask/mask match. (NOTE: He didn't say what year! Hahahaha) Wagner congrats Atlantis and his friends, but it's still his house and his people. Replays off this finish and last week's. Atlantis finds a large mob of kids and others thrilled for him, and gets mobbed celebrating with them.
