GdR #58

12/30/06

Another just okay segunda match, a long-ish main event – long enough that I should’ve gone back and see if I actually timed it correct – but nothing special here. I predict this will get a 0 for 2 on the F4 show.

Appearances in the last six weeks…
1: Mistico
3: Leono and La Mascara
4: Loco Max and Arkangel
5: Fabian el Gitano
7: Sangre Azteca

I know CMLL’s roster isn’t this small, but it sure seems that way of late. It would improve things dramatically if, instead of showing a segunda with the same guys yet again, they’d mix it up and grab the opening match or the tercera.

speaking of TV: I watched the last half of AAA’s main event today (from the pre-GdT show), and reached two conclusions
– the matches still aren’t good (though seeing Cibernetico Hulk Up, complete with three punches, was entertaining in it’s own way)
– oh my gosh, Cibernetico’s super over. Especially with the girls. Like if there was no one booing Cena.

I mean, it may not be something I want to pay for, but it’s something a lot of people will be paying to see – if they can ride this wave in 2007, they’re going to be doing enormous business. The one missing piece is new opposition if Ricky is gone (or even if he isn’t, at some point it’ll be run into the ground). Shocker would’ve been perfect for this spot if he had stuck around, and Scorpio can’t quite replace him there. Konnan was pushed in a position where he’d normally be next, but obviously that’s not happening, and none of the Sect or TNA guys have built a individual presence that’d make it work. La Parka Jr. ain’t turning rudo. Pirata? Abismo? I dunno.

(FWIW, I think the idea of Bucanero jumping doesn’t work anymore. The spot is gone. Wagner or Silver King might be fun, but I don’t think either of them could stomach working rudo stooge to Cibernetico’s tecnico hero.)

If the Toluca crowd is any fair representation, though, Cibernetico’s so over, it may not matter who he’s facing.

  1. Ah the Toluca show… that was awesome. Crowd heat can’t be touched by any location in the world.

I think a Bucanero jump would be interesting. He could lead Morgan and the Pirata Jr.’s against the Hell Brothers.

But it may be time for the yearly Abismo Negro overpush where he’ll fail as usual.

  2. Thanks a ton for all of these updates and the new layout looks amazing. Everything is easier to navigate.

I have a question if you don’t mind. I’m just getting into AAA (been watching for 3 weeks now) and was wanting some kind of background on the whole Hell Brothers/La Secta/Muerta Cibernetica feaud going on. I’m really confused about it all. Mainly what’s the deal with the 2 Cibernetico’s?

  3. The Hellbrothers Cibernetico had a long feud with AAA’s La Parka, with Parka taking Cibernetico’s mask in 2005. To get revenge, Cibernetico brought in a foreigner solely beat AAA La Parka for his mask. Cibernetico even made the new guy’s music a combo of his and La Parka’s, and had him wear a mask that was a combo of his and La Parka’s, just to make sure everyone knew what this was about. The new guy is called Muerte Cibernetica – since La Parka is essentially a (dancing) undead skeleton, even the name plays off the rivalry.

In June, Parka beat Muerte for his mask, and he was revealed to be Puerto Rician wrestler Ricky Banderas. (He’s the guy who’s now wearing the purple pants.)

At that time, Cibernetico was the leader of the (evil) Sect, but Muerte blamed him for the loss and led a coup – Muerte took over leadership and Cibernetico was beat up and kicked out of the group.

In reality, Cibernetico had a knee injury and they had to write him out for a few months. In the meantime, the Sect feuded internally – Sect members Charly Manson and Chessman were still loyal to Cibernetico, which eventually led to them splitting from the group and joining Cibernetico’s new group, the Hellbrothers.

In the last few weeks of TV, Cibernetico’s returned from his injury to get revenge on Muerte. This week, Muerte got some outside help to steal a win, so they agreed to have a revenge match next week, with a couple of stipulations:

    – Konnan, who’s allied with Muerte, will be a referee
    – It’ll be a coffin match, maybe the first one in a major Mexican promotion.

That match, taped earlier this month, should air next Saturday.

  4. I don’t know if what is worse for the Wagner brothers, to stomach working rudo stooge to Solitario Jr and Perrito, or to the top lucha star of the moment. I think the Wagners are more worried in trying to stablish their own territory than in working for AAA…

A jump of a few CMLL guys could help both companies, it could supply AAA with a good and needed amount of talent, and leave CMLL some room to book fresher angles.

  5. Maybe they can turn Chessman, I dunno. The soapy storylines have me kind of interested, Faby’s missing son, Ciber’ love note. Also like the promo Devina & Oriental cut on the MP’s. But my favorite part was when Hator got the mic and called the tecnico’s Pussies. Is that word common in spanish too?
