12/01 Arena Mexico Preview

Actually, the big show tonight is the Mistico vs Hijo del Diablo mask match in Tijuana. (So big, I listed it twice.) There’s even a bigger looking CMLL show in Mexico City, by the VIP promotion:

CMLL (FRI) 12/01 Salon 21, DF
1) Leono, Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico vs Dr. X, Nitro, Sangre Azteca
2) Dark Angel & India Sioux vs Amapola & Hiroka
3) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Hijo del Santo vs Blue Demon Jr. & LA Park

With Santo in town elsewhere, and Mistico out of town, why were they even considering running a PPV on this day? Maybe they were slow in realizing the schedule.

Anyway, the not-major, not-PPV card is:

CMLL (FRI) 12/01 Arena Mexico
1) Tigre Blanco & Tigre Metalico vs Loco Max & Ramstein
2) Mascara Purpura, Sagrado, Virus vs Alex Koslov, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
3) Atlantis, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero vs Damain 666, Halloween, Hector Garza
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Universo 2000, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Kenzo Suzuki, Mephisto
5) Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero, Shocker vs Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Marco Corelone, Mr. Aguila

The big draw here is Perro’s return to Arena Mexico. This is his first match since losing the trios title match, and I wonder if his return means they’re finally going to pick up the Shocker turn in that match. All the Perros except Terrible (and Blue Demon, sorta) are on the show, and the champs are teaming up against a Perro group in the tercera, so something’s happening. Maybe it’s not a coincidence that none of those guys are yet booked for the 12/15 show – that’d give another needed strong match to the show.

Note that the big build to Shocker/Universo vs Marco/Kenzo has them split into different matches, with Corelone and Universo notably not in the same one. If there’s anything to them having issues, this would seem to back it up.

  1. This is one of those rare weeks where i do hope CMLL TV programming sticks to the recent trends with the normal show airing the semi and main along with Los Dos Tigres/Rivera from Coliseo, and GdR picking up the segunda the following week – because Sagrado/Virus/The more flippier La Mascara V Misterioso/Sangre/Koslov looks loadsa fun. Hope they give it 16/17 minutes or so…

Cats V Pandilla will no doubt be good too – does that VIP promotion never get taped any more? – i definitely remember they ran one or two tapings last year

  2. I agree that the matches that should be aired look better than in the previous weeks, hopefully, they won’t fool around with those.

Which VIP? There is one running shows in Salon XXI (which is a ripoff of the Peña’s “Solo para Mujeres” show) but there’s also one called Lucha Libre VIP in the northern part of Mexico.

If CMLL wants to run Arena Mexico without a winter break, then they’ll need to run interesting feuds with montly hair matchs, or even every other week hair events. I could se the Dec 15 being a singles Universo vs Corleone, and working up to a Kenzo/Perrito vs Shocker/Bucanero feud in the undercard, leading to a relevos suicidas in the end of year show, or even to a 4 way match, the 3 remaining guys could keep feuding with Corleone(he beats Universo) Dos Caras Jr and Mistico involved until the eventual March show with Perrito dropping the hair to Mistico.

If I was CMLL, I wouldn’t book Aguayo at all if it is not for him to put Mistico over. But since I’m not CMLL and they are CMLL, I guess this will turn into a “some Perro turns on Aguayo, and they have a hair match”. You know, Perrito is an anagram to Pierrot, so it’s pretty likely we’ll end seeing the same boring stuff from the Boricua saga ’99-forever in this 2007-forever.

Today is a holiday/free day, so anything short from a full house sell out in Arena Mexico is gonna be a failure. Any word on yesterday’s Toluca taping for AAA?

  3. Nothing yet. AAA hasn’t posted anything – I’m guessing they won’t get around to it ’til Sunday – and none of the Toluca newspapers I checked had anything.

  4. Hehe, yeah, I don’t really like to surf through the AAA site, it’s too slow for me… most of the shows end well after midnight, so if some newspapers get coverage, it would make it tomorrow, unless there’s something to stop the press…
