Next Year’s WON HOF eligible

Just before I forget about this for a year, I thought I should bring up the new nominees for next year, because there are quite a few lucha names on the new list.

– Gran Hamada: I’ve seen maybe 3 Gran Hamada matches in my life, and have no valid opinion
– Vampiro: probably won’t go in, probably in the middle of too much stuff right now to have a permanent opinion here
– Karloff Lagarde Jr.: I assume it’s Jr. (he just turned 35 last year), but Dave has it listed as “Karloff Lagrade”, and adding a guy who was a big star in the 60s to the list with no explanation is just weird.
– Universo 2000: I think there were be a vocal minority for Universo, but the general perception of him is so strongly negative, they’re kinda wasting their time.
– “Rey Mysterio”: again, I think this is Jr. If it is, it’s a no doubter for me (and Rey Sr. has a strong case as a trainer, I guess.)
– “Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero”: this is five years too soon for either guy, clearly. As singles and trending towards the future, Ultimo’s on an arc to make it and Rey’s not (but, again, it’s far too soon). As a team, I’d like to see Tarzan included as well (and I know I’m the only one), but it’s mostly meaningless since very few teams get in as teams. They’re not getting in and I’m not sure if I’d vote for them, but I worry that getting swept off the ballot quick will hurt them when they get back on the ballot more deservingly around 2011.

(Non-lucha names include the Dudley Boys, Satoshi Kojima, the Rock and Rob Van Dam. One name on that list is getting in for sure.)

09/11: lineups

I would like to talk about news today. But there is no news. We really need to put together a fund to either get Alexis to go back to his blog, or get someone to do his website for him so he can update is like he used to, because I so miss getting timely CMLL Coliseo results.

Speaking of websites – AAA’s started to remove references to Shocker on it’s website – his profile is unlinked (though still on the website), and the bio for Guapos U doesn’t mention him ever having been a member, though his picture is still on it. (They didn’t remove mentions of Zumbido, fwiw.) He’s also still listed on the VdE card.

Magazine round up.
Box Y Lucha #2783 features Warrior vs Mistico. Box Y Lucha is supposed to redo their website in October, which means we’ll get one good week of updates.
Super Luchas #178 features Warrior vs Mistico
Luchas 2000 #334 features Warrior vs Mistico (and Porky vs Scorpio and shirtless Mark Jindrak)

There are photos of the RXLL show on the box y lucha forum.

I’m actually going to be in close proximity to my GdR recording this evening, so perhaps some recaps will finally get done. Stay tuned.

Lineup notes
– AAA’s big TV taping is this Sunday. No word about any of the mystery person yet.
– Mistico vs Black Warrior is headlining Guadalajara this week, and probably will headline a lot of places for the next few weeks. I wonder if Black Warrior is coming to Chicago?
– Nothing really big on the CMLL DF shows so far. They likely set up a special main event for next Sunday’s Arena Coliseo show, but no results and nothing seems really obvious there. Friday’s show starts an hour early due to Mexican Indepdence Day festivities.
– IWRG’s having an interesting week. Thursday sees the debut of Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., who was just introduced a couple weeks ago in the lucha magazines. Of course, he’s starting in the main event. (YAY NEPOTISM) Sunday has a random cage of death match, with a couple of names and someone like Enterrador 2000 taking the loss.
– AULL’s got a GdA vs Dragon/Mistico/Rey main, and the decision match for the AULL Lightweight – apparently last week’s cibernetico was just to select the winner. I wish we could get more consistent results here.
