07/07: previews

Even less going on today. Let’s just roll out the cards. Both major companies are running TV tapings tonight.

AAA TV (FRI) 07/07 Gimnasio Marcelino Gonzalez, Zacatecas, Zacatecas
1) La Parkita, Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Chessman
2) Cinthia Moreno, Elegido, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Medico, Rossy Moreno, Sexy Francis
3) Chessman, Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz vs Laredo Kid, Nemesis AAA, Rey Cometa Jr., Super Fly [MEX ATOMICOS]
Still not absolutely sure if this is meant to be a battle for vacant titles or if Chessman and company are still champs. Guess we’ll see if the Sect or the commission brings the belts. Figure the TripleMania finish was just a delaying swerve to put off the title change a couple of weeks, but it should go down tonight.
4) Alan Stone, Electroshock, Tigre Extreme vs Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventued Guerrera
The Mexipowers are the tecnicos here, but the rudo team still seems goofy.
5) Brazo de Plata, La Parka Jr., Octagon vs Muerte Cibernetica, Shocker, Zumbido
See, you’d think they’d be pushing the Sect split angle, and then they do a main event which has nothing to do with it. That’s some kind of clever. Seems like an off taping; they should bump the title match to the top, especially if they’re doing a title change.

CMLL (FRI) 07/07 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov, Valiente vs Calígula, Mesala
New photo for Robert’s sig? I think so!
2) Leono, Texano Jr., Virus vs Loco Max, Ohara, Okumura
Virus is back from Japan.
3) Blue Panther, Mr. Niebla, Satanico vs Atlantis, Olimpico, Universo 2000
4) Felino, La Mascara, Sagrado, Volador Jr., Pantera, Neutron, Averno, Mepshito, Misterioso, Nitro, Mascara Purpura [ciber]
I presume they’re doing a battle royale for sides. First elimination and last elimination will probably hint towards who’s losing their mask, but I don’t think they’ve quite done this sort of setup before so who knows? Next week will be the more historically important match, but this will surely be the better quality one. There’s a press confrence scheduled today at noon for everyone to sign the mask contract. I wonder if it’s too late to get a press pass? Anyway, I’ll pick Averno to win this, and I think probably will be better than Reyes de Aire
5) Dos Caras Jr., Hijo de Lizmark, Rey Bucanero vs Kenzo Suzuki, Marco Corelone, Ultimo Guerrero
I hope Ultimo and Rey are feeling real good. Like everyone else, I think they should be heading to a title match here. Maybe sine the feud hasn’t worked so far, they can shift direction – instead of revenge while wearing pirate vests, Rey wants to prove he’s the better wrestler than the guys who ditched him, so he wants a wrestling match for the CMLL LH title (as opposed to the usual brawl that is a stakes match in current CMLL.)

Steve Sims will be on Bryan Alvarez’s Figure Four Daily later today, talking lucha libre. It should be a free show to all, so I urge you to check it out.

Update: The F4D show is now up
