05/31 news: Tuesday Coliseo, Cibernetico

CMLL (TUE) 05/30 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Explosivo, Zetta b Polvora, Vaquero
2) Danger, Starman, Trueno b Caligula, Jeque, Messala
3) Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Ramstein b Rey Tigre, Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico
4) Emilio Charles Jr., Hijo de Pierroth, Pierroth b Lizmark Sr., Pantera, Satanico
5) Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Hijo de Lizmark b Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero
2-0. As you’d expect, they turned on Rey here again, and ripped up his tights. He’s going need new tecnico gear! I know and I’m sure Rey’s scheduled to team with various combinations of Guerreros over the next few weeks – lineups are always behind – and so we’ll see this repeat around the country. Of course, the greatest concern is Friday; Loco Max is still a Guerrero Pandilla member, last I checked.

Ovaciones suggests CMLL may do a Ultimo/Rey match as soon as next Tuesday. I hope they’re wrong. This is quite the oddly paced out angle – maximize the turn before it happens, minimize the turn when and after it happens.

Ovaciones (new) notes
– As someone – tim? Robert? – suggested, Cibernetico’s getting knee surgery and out of the ring for six months (though I suspect he’ll still be on TV), concidentally how long his suspension will last. They ran an angle with a fan attacking him and taking out his knee.
– Tickets went on sale today for Triplemania 14, on 06/18. Pena has said there will be a cage match (and we already know Cassi/Pimpi in a hair match.)

I’ll be back with a full-er update tommorow, but until then, let me point out Box Y Lucha has a transcript of it’s interview with Dos Caras and articles from the magazine (now posted in a blog format – maybe they’ll be sticking around longer?), and el Halcon is due to have a new issue tommorow; they’ve already got a teaser graphic with Terrible, Mr. Mexico, Jeque, Mascara Purpura, and Zayco, so I think it’ll get Henrik’s stamp of approval. And if you haven’t gone there already, go to rudopolis, read their stuff there, and thank them in e-mail. (Or, check out other good sites I’ve failed to plug.)

And read the wiki and help me figure out what we’re going to do with the year links!

Lucha Times

Possibly I only noticed because I Live For This, but whoever’s feeding Meltzer the info on shows on Saturdays knows what’s going on better than I, or got lucky. Galavision skipped two episodes on the Sunday show last week; the AAA recap show that was supposed to air, and the Santo/Atlatnis LdP final, and ended up on the Universo/Halloween part 1 show. They skipped the following week last time, and I suppose they will again.

Saturday: I didn’t realize there was a missing AAA episode last week till it aired – so now that they’re back on track (and still scheduling 3 hour episodes), it’ll probably be the episode I expected last week.

Sunday: Universo vs Halloween in a hair match.

Dantes cheated to be Gallo, and pulled his mask off post match.

Misterioso II ??

Edit: Couple more notes from reading Alexis’ recap on CMLL.com
– Maximo vs Loco Max for the hairs is set for next Sunday.
– Metalico was the Tigre stretchered out, and early on in the match
– Rey was actually on the same page with his partners, till things broke down in the second fall. Sounds like he and Tarzan had problems first, and in the midst of it, Tarzan tried to hit Rey and got Ultimo. Ultimo had no idea what was up, so Tarzan pointed the finger at Rey, and they both turned on him. Darn that Tarzan Boy!

06/03 and 06/04 Chicago lucha shows

Three? shows this weekend in the area

Saturday, there’s a regular show at Chi-Town. It looks like the usual lineup, with Gallo Tapado Jr. and AAA’s Cassandro the guys brought in this time.

Congress has Lizmark & Canek vs Emilio and Satanico on Sunday show. Tickets are free, but they haven’t posted any other info about it – no start time, no other matches, no nothing. I would assume the same 5PM bell time as last time, but I don’t know.

Congress’s website has a banner ad (at the bottom) for a match on Saturday featuring those same four. Address is listed as 14 N 963 Route 25, East Dundee, IL 60618. That address should’ve been proofread once more; Dundee’s zip code is 60118. The bigger problem is I can’t find a map which has 14 N 963 Route 25 on it. (East Dundee is not so big that you probably couldn’t drive around and find it, though.) Wherever the show is, it’s listed as starting at 11am – though I think may just be for the festival, and not specifically the wrestling show.

Anyone going to these? I’m surely going to the Congress show, and if the times worked and I’m free, I would consider doing the double shot on Saturday if I knew how to get to various places.

If you’re involved with running either show (or are booked on the show), I’d love to have more info to pass along. I really don’t want to actually have to call people, but I just might.

05/29: Coliseo results, Japan, lineups

Luchawiki has been up and down all holiday weekend. We’re bugging support about it.

CMLL (SUN) 05/28 Arena Coliseo Results
1) Bracito de Oro, Mini Olímpico b Fire, Sombrita
2) Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Ramstein b Chamaco Valaguez Jr., Kronos, Sensei
3) Dr. X, Masada, Nitro b Rey Tigre, Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metálico
One of the Tigres got stretchered out.
4) Hombre Sin Nombre, Loco Max, Shigeo Okumura b Mascara Purpura, Máximo, Virus
Maximo and Loco Max are building up a hair match. Figure THAT into your GA predictions.
5) Black Warrior, el Hijo del Pierroth, Emilio Charles Jr. b La Máscara, Lizmark Sr., Pantera
6) Heavy Metal, Mistico, Negro Casas b Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, Último Guerrero
Tarzan and Ultimo turned on Rey, beating him up, ripping off his Guerrero tights, and tossing him out of the ring. They’re done. :(

CMLL.com says Oro II will get a match at Arena Mexico soon (though not this week.) They, like most everyone else, expect this week’s Arena Mexico tag match (Wagner/Mistico vs Atlantis/Warrior.)

Box Y Lucha has posted an article on it’s forum (unusual), with the headline of “[El Dandy] wants to return to Arena Mexico”. The article is actually more of a “what El Dandy has been up to lately” (opening a new gym for his school), but I’m guessing he’ll get his wish. Dandy’s the Mexican Light Heavyweight champion, the only Mexican national championship that’s semi-active and held by a person not aligned with CMLL or AAA (because it was supposed to be an ENSEMA thing, right?)

Super Luchas 163’s cover is bloody Rey Mysterio. Inside pages can be found here

Sangre in NJPW!
05/27 Super J: Taguchi beats Sangre
05/29 Super J: Sangre beats Fuego
The Azteca de Oro appears to be a middle rope over the shoulder backbreaker into a faceslam. I’m guessing I’ve seen the move from him and have completely forgot.

Virus is headed to Japan, starting in the middle of Japan. He’s scheduled to work a Nosawa promoted show (loosely affilated with AJPW) on 06/16 – he teams with Akira to take on Kaz Hayashi & TAKA Michioku. He’s also scheduled to take part in a Junior Singles League on the 06/25 to 07/03 tour. CMLL irregulars Masada and Takemura are part of the League, so I’ll keep an eye on it next month.

Triple A’s seems to confirms Abismo Negro, Oriental, Charly Manson, Psicosis II and Angel are going to NOAH in Japan (as opposed to some other mysterious NOA) for two weeks, though they don’t say when. I can’t imagine how that’s going to work.

While Perro and Hector are working this week’s Arena Mexico show as part of the Gran Alternativa tournament and team with Terrible to main event Sunday’s Coliseo show, Perros del Mal has seem de-emphasized since taking that double loss to the Guerreros (CMLL LH, double hair), with Perro and Hector rarely appearing in DF. It could just be because they’re working on Mistico/Warrior, Wagner/Park and Rey’s turn more, but does anyone else have more info about it? Strikes me as odd.

El Halcon has a story on Mil Mascara facing Canek in Rio Bravo.

The New York Times had a story about Nacho Libre over the weekend, but it’s not freely available over the web. It’s a pretty good lucha libre background piece, explaining what Nacho Libre is spoofing. From Parts Unknown gets linked in the article (and that’s probably why it’s down today.) (Thanks to mikeinformer)

By the way, I’m still looking for a way to see Nacho Libre free and early. One of those is slightly more important. If you can help, let me know.

Lineup notes
– In a “how fast can this car go?” situation, Mistico/Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Atlantis/Black Warrior is scheduled to be the main event of Arena Mexico and Arena Lopez Mateos on Friday night – and both shows are listed as started at the same time. That’ll be interesting. La Mascara and Maximo are also working the double shot.
– AAA’s taping TV on Wednesday with a Parka/Murte super libre main event, and on Sunday with a Parka/Muerte street fight. Suspended Cibernetico is working at least one taping.
– On Saturday, there’s a benefit show for Ham Lee, Leo Loepz and Scorpio Sr. at Deportivo Ocenia. Santo’s working the show.
– Villanos face the Brazos for the “Americas Tag” titles on Saturday
– Chicago commercial icon Eagleman is also wrestling in Arena Lopez Mateos on Friday.
– Chicago wrestling needs a post of it’s own.
