04/23 news: new match for Arena Mexico anniversary show

Hector Garza vs Ultimo Guerrero for the CMLL LH Championship has been added to this Friday’s show. Gotta figure they’re setting up a split situation, with whichever side wins this match losing the hair match. Since I’m leaning towards the PdM losing the hair match, this might mean Ultimo loses a title he’s held for over 3 years. You never know until it happens, though.

Super Luchas 158 has photos of people getting their masks rippped.

Miami Herald has a story on a night in Arena Mexico as a introduction to lucha libre.

(Strong Style Spirit) Sangre lost in NJPW on 04/23, with his partner Yujiro taking the fall to Koji Kanemoto and Wataru Inoue. Next match is on the 23th.

Elsewhere on this webpage, Joe and I talked lucha libre and various other things for 30 minutes on the first edition of Joe versus the World. Check it out and let you us know what you think.

  1. Oh my god, Rey Cometa just did a running corkscrew plancha into an armdrag on AAA TV! This Diabolics/Apache vs Fuerza Aerea match is the greatest thing ever!

  2. Surely it can’t have been any cooler a spot than LA Park’s spear/tope suicida in the videos on the CMLL site! :D

And for someone who i assume doesn’t have the most healthy of necks after the Vampiro chokeslam a few years back, I don’t think that doomsday rana done Tarzan Boy a great deal of good! – ouch…

Gotta love the obligatory Mexican slo-mo replays though :)

  3. New CMLL vids already? Nice heads up Henrik!

It’s a shame you hate AAA b/c I think you’d really enjoy La Fuerza Aerea. They all have death wishes. Rey Cometa did a moonsault over the ringpost today. Laredo Kid did a springboard plancha OVER Gran Apache and onto another rudo standing about 10 feet away! Nemesis did a crazy corkscrew plancha and earlier in the match did a tope suicida into an armdrag. Plus the millions of new armdrag/headscissors variations. I can’t wait to see their series vs La Secta.

  4. Ah, hating it’s maybe a bit extreme Rob – I just hate (or hated) some things about it. Like the hexagonal ring, the main event scene, the hexagonal ring, the clusterfucks & wildly overbooked matches etc, etc… – oh, and the hexagonal ring too :)

The one thing I do like though is that when they do a TV taping, they’ll show every match from that taping and not just the top 2 or 3 – even if it involves locals! – I could go into a rant here in comparison to CMLL undercarders, but i know you catch my drift!

All things considered, I probably would like it in 2006, because:
    – i like my high fliers and I know i’ll enjoy the likes of la Fuerza Area, Billy Boy, Principe whateverbaberapsnewnameis etc etc
-they now have Shocker (and Zumbido)
-Los Chivas Rayadas, or at least one of them, are still around now & again :)
-Oriental and Gran Apache are still kicking around
-some of the mini’s are actually quite good
-they seem to have cut out some of the OTT shit –the one episode of 2006 i did see, i enjoyed – particularly the Histeria/psicosis match
-and certain aspects of CMLL are pissing me off at the moment, so i would probably like to have an alternative to watch as well!

Whats happended to Incognito though – from the Monterrey stuff i’ve saw, he looks amazing, but he seems to have disappeared from all lineups lately. Same with Pegasso!

But anyways, yep, i’m quite open minded to new AAA. The only problem is, i’ve got so much CMLL from the past year still to see that no matter how good my intentions are, i’ll probably never get round to the point where AAA is top of my list! :(

  5. ORIENTAL? Henrik, I’m begging you to escape the 1999 vortex you have been sucked into.:P

It’s good that you didn’t mention Chessman. The less attention he gets the better. Remember Ultimo Guerrero in 1999? Who even knew him? 3 years later he is the best worker in Mexico and everyone loves him. I can’t wait till 2008.:)

  6. I believe the word is Incognito broke his wrist, but is close enough to return that he’s one of the names they’ve thrown around for Team Mexico.
