CMLL Guerreros Del Ring - 12/24/05 (#5)

Julio welcomes us to the show while hanging out in the market.

Match 1: Satánico (c), Felino, Sagrado vs Hijo del Pierroth (c), Okumura, Ohara
Arena Mexico, 12/16/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. tecnico

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:18
Approx Rating: Not so good.
Other Match Notes: Entrances included. Satanico is looking quite buzzed. Japanese don't have first names in CMLL. Ohara's music is "Power and Energy" by DJ Darkzone. He does not have a video, though he has a hand signal - it's actually close to the W thing I was trying to get Wagner to acknowledge last time I saw him. Small world of funny hand signals.

Ohara and Felino to start. Felino quickly gets a half crab but Ohara gets the ropes. Mat wrestling, with Felino working the leg, and then Ohara countering with his own leg holds. Felino gets in an odd STF variant. Bunch of counters ends with Felino sending Ohara out with an armdrag. Sagrado and Okumura. Lots of battling for basic holds. They don't try anything complex, but they stay off the ropes for the most part. Headlock/headscissors spots, then a back bridge/airplane bit. They get mad and start punching each other, then start shoving each other, and then just decide that's enough. Satanico and Rebel Pierroth! They skip the mat wrestling and start with the pushing and strike. Hijo gets Satanico in the corner, corner whip, corner clothesline, celebrate. Pierroth tires that again and eats a boot. Satanico clotheslines him down, and then throws him all around. He goes out, Ohara tries to get a dropkick and no luck y for him. Felino comes in to take care of him. Corner clothesline to the back, on Felino's shoulders for a Sagrado plancha. Okumura elbows his own partner, then takes a bodyscissors cradle from Felino as Sagrado covers Ohara, one two three. (4:43) Satanico wants some of Hijo del Pierroth, but he's warned not to do too much. The tecnicos do beat him out of the ring and Hijo struts wackily on the floor. Replays. Break.

Vignette: Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis promise to destroy all tecnicos. You should keep watching GdA on 52MX!

Rudos are in no hurry to continue, but eventually Okumura agrees to face Felino. Felino is doing some wacky dance which we only see a little bit off, and then they get running. You don't want to run with Felino, he'll dropkick you in the knee, dropkick you in the head, and clothesline you to the floor. Easy as pie. Felino notes how easy it is, and kicks dirt in the rudos direction. Sagrado and Ohara, and Sagrado actually hits his crazy acrobat spot. Not that it helps. Skinny Ohara gets the better of him with a wheel kick and works him over with chops. He needs to get more on them. Sagrado tries the up and over sunset flip, gets stopped, but returns the chops anyway. Spinning headscissors works, and Sagrado fakes the dive. Hijo del Pierroth mockingly claps for him. Satanico wants him now. They have a chest slap fight, though Pierroth tries to find a way to get a kick in. Satanico beats him down like you know he would, and the rudos storm the ring to take control. Satanico's sent out, Felino is brought in for a double flapjack and a dropkick to the face. Ohara forearms Sagrado on the open, and then the rudos do the worst triple strut in the history of man. It's not even comically bad, it's just bad bad. It's as if Ohara had never seen one done before. At this point, in protest, my computer decides it's no longer going to play video for me, and I take a two hour break to play video games where I punch people.

That helped! The Japanese guys beat up Felino some more, with Pierroth waiting forever for them to get done so he can do his high spot, before giving up with Okumura has trouble with a reverse DDT. Okumura then properly executes the move to eliminate Felino. (3:03) Sagrado back in to take his pin. Triple boot for him. Lots of set up to dropkick Sagrado off the apron and too the floor. That actually backfires a bit for the rudos, because while Okumura and Ohara are on the floor, beating up Sagrado some more (into the post he goes, crotch first), Satanico jumps back in the ring and attacks ally-less Hijo del Pierroth. Somehow, Pierroth manages to recover all on his own, and gets a spinebuster. Now will he get to do his highspot? Yea, the Japanese hold Satanico in position for an HdPierroth middle rope senton. (4:09) Tied up. The rudos celebrate, and stomp the tecnicos some. Replays.

They seem to clip things - between the fall, and maybe the start of the fall. Almost immediately, the rudos try simultaneous bulldogs and get shoved into each other, which backs up that theory. For these matches that air on 52MX and Televisa/Galavision, it'd be interesting to compare match times. Hijo del Pierroth gets worked over the most first, and that's so Satanico can untie his mask and threaten to rip it off (perhaps revealing he's not really related to Pierroth at all - definitely revealing he's got blond hair at the moment.) Satanico relents enough to corner whip him for a double clothesline, and he and Felino hold Pierroth in position for what looks like a low blow dropkick, but apparently they're not only going to allow it, but they'll allow Sagrado to do it one more time. Replays show it to be kicks to the inside of the thigh, which I guess is legal but takes away some of the impact of the move. Can't have it both ways, I guess. Match settles down to a one on one, with Felino dropkicking Okumura with a dropkick. Or not, as Ohara comes in, and it backfires. Sagrado gets the boosted up dropkick on Okumura, Felino gets the boosted up backdrop style pescado onto both Asians, and Sagrado finishes the sequence with a slingshot whatever - a corkscrew plancha he aborted or gave half effort on? People weren't ready for it, so a safer route on the dive was sensible, if far from beautiful. Actually, the way his legs clocked Okumura, it may have not been too safe for him. Captains left in, and Hijo gests the early edge with a clothesline. Satanico ducks the second and kicks him. Armbar, twisting, forward legsweep roll, one two three. (2:26) Well that was easy, when it came down to it. Tecnicos celebrate, and then they kick. Marisol does not approve of that finish. Replays, and a break

Match 2: Atlantis (c), Último Guerrero, Olímpico vs Mistico (c), Negro Casas, Último Dragón
Arena Coliseo, 12/18/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:07
Approx Rating: 88. Really good, and Atlantis is fun as a rudo.
Other Match Notes: GdIA music for the rudos. Atlantis has the kilt, which now has symbols from his mask. This is one of those moments where I can't believe things are as they are. It's tough to comprehend. Rudos do not attack Mistico as he enters, which surprises me - they allow all the tecnicos to enter. Quick clip, and then a just as sudden break.

Doesn't look like we missed any of the match when we return - both sides are still figuring out their plans. Okay, Guerrero and Dragon to start. They battle for control on the mat, with Dragon getting an armbar, Guerrero reversing, and Dragon with his usual roll/flip escape to a standoff. "MIST I CO MIST I CO" Lockup, Guerrero with a trip, Dragon with a corkscrew headscissors from the mat. Guerrero lands him down for a cover, but no, and he gets spun out again. Dragon keeps the headscissors tight, and then reveres to the monkey flip leverage bits - Dragon ends up getting flipped to his feet. Tags. Olimpico and Negro. "NEG RO NEG RO" That's still an odd chant. Lots of fast exchanges over easy holds. No one's able to get much of an advantage before the standoff and switch. Atlantis and Mistico, and Atlantis is not too pleased about it. We look at the crowd, and come back to see Atlantis pounding Mistico. Whip, backdrop for Mistico. Elbow drop, elbow drop, elbow drop. Atlantis points at the crowd and rips up Mistico's mask, which spurs a six way brawl. The screen gets really dark here for some reason, which obviously makes it tough to watch, but Ke Monito is there and he can't bear to watch either. Of course, the rudos easily take control, even going as far as Atlantis ripping off Mistico's mask entirely. Somehow, they get away with this, and roll Mistico out without getting in trouble. Meanwhile, Guerrero gets Dragon in the Stretch Muffler, and Olimpico gets Negro in a double standing armbar - they'll count it, though I don't know why. (4:13) The tecnico announcer is having a hard time buying this as well. Atlantis laid out Mistico on the outside, and officials help him to the back as the rudos celebrate the 1-0 lead. Atlantis has the Mistico mask in his mouth and is waving it around, like a lion with meat in his mouth. Ultimo gives Ke Monito a boot choke - Dragon tries to get him to stop. Replays show Mistico has stopped frosting his tips, which is a welcome development. Also, we get to see the finishes, which is nice. I still can't believe there's no DQ - the refs saw the mask get pulled off - and neither can the tecnico announcer

Next Week: Mistico

Break.

Vignette: Olimpico says all the people in the US and Mexico should be watching 52MX. Or something.

Beatdown goes on as we start thru fall two. It's 3 on 2, Mistico no where to be season and GdA taking advantage of the numbers. Dragon's thrown out, and they work over Negro. Mistico is back, and tries to run back in, but Atlantis kicks him as he tries to climb in the ring. Double whip for Negro, Negro rolls under the double clothesline, and Mistico drops Atlantis and Ultimo with a double dropkick. Dragon and Negro storm the ring, and the comeback is on. Negro takes on Olimpico, and the rivals mix it up. Atlantis taking huge bumps off Mistico's strikes, particularly a clothesline. He bails and starts running from Mistico! Mistico wants revenge, but Atlantis uses the referee as a human shield and waves from behind. In the ring, Dragon and Negro are working over Guerrero, but just as much watching what Mistico is doing. Guerrero gets up (which is good, because I think Negro was about to dropkick in the face) and resumes the one on one encounter with Negro. Negro takes some chops, but draws from the crowd. Corner whip, corner clothesline, corner whip, Negro moves out of the way, Casas Special one two three. (2:25) Kick wham Asai DDT on Olimpico (2:41) Mistico tires to get some of Atlantis, but Atlantis runs away again, this time hiding behind security! Replays of the finishes. If I was in charge, I'd make it a rule that you always show the start of the comeback on replays. We didn't get a good shot of it before, but this replay shows Mistico leaped over Atlantis as he charged him during the finishes, and then the chase was on.

Final fall, and it should be the captains, but Atlantis needs to think this over. Switch - Guerrero and Dragon, Guerrero landing a back elbow to take the opening edge. Guerrero picks Dragon up, and Dragon gives him thanks in the form of the delayed snap mare. Dragon evades Guerrero's running moves and drops him with the handspring elbow. Dive tease, but not yet. Olimpico and Negro . Olimpico makes fun of Negro's lack of a six pack. Olimpico sure has been eating his vitamins. They compare physiques for a while, and then compare chest slaps. Negro is hurting, so he kicks Olimpico in the chest. Olimpico kicks back, and doesn't goes Negro. Slapping Negro in the face is never a good idea, but no one told Olimpico. Olimpico tries that boot to the face again, but this time Negro catches it, turns him over, and snaps the leg over his knee. Olimpico has to go out to recover, which means it's Atlantis - and Mistico. Atlantis can't believe this keeps happening. I think he's going to cry! Atlantis mans up, and beats Mistico down, killing him with knees. High tens for his team. Atlantis walks back to Mistico, and gets superkicked. Mistico off the ropes at a high speed, going even faster when back flipping. Atlantis misses a clothesline, Mistico lands a spinning headscissors. Mistico blocks a clothesline before it's even thrown, and throws in an extra flip on a springboard armdrag. Drop toe hold, off the ropes, 619. Atlantis is begging off, but Mistico is going for his mask. The rest his the ring, and the tecnicos keep the rudos from getting involved. Mistico doesn't pull the mask off, but rips it up a great deal. Atlantis gets to his feet, chest slaps Mistico, and gets dropkicked out. Mistico teases a dive, but Guerrero surprises him with a boot, knocking him out. Guerrero brings Negro in, corner whip, charge, Negro ducks low and Guerrero takes the knee bump to the floor. There's the Thesz Press dive. Dragon lights up Olimpico with a flipping dropkick, and then drops him with a tope. Captains back in once again. Atlantis waves Mistico by, Mistico tornado spins into a headlock, Atlantis flips him, Mistico lands on his feet, Atlantis pulls the mask! The refs were looking at the dives, and now they're looking at Atlantis rolling Mistico up - one two THREE. (4:13) Atlantis poses, despite his mask falling off. Olimpico gives him a big hug. Dragon and Monito can't believe this injustice - Dragon tries to get the referee to listen to the fans, but all he cares about is the one two three. Rudos drag in Guerrero so he can get his arm raised as well. It's a happy day for Atlantis.

The ring announcer gives Mistico the microphone. He wants a match with Atlantis, one on one, in Arena Coliseo. Atlantis is noncommittal to the idea. The crowd seems to dig it. Atlantis gets his turn, and I believes he says "I am your poppy" before beating down Mistico. Mistico gets a small comeback, but Atlantis gets his mask again and leaves him laying, covering his face. Replays of the key parts of the final fall.

Leobardo talks to Atlantis: Atlantis wants to show off the TWO Mistico masks. Now that he's shown he can beat down Mistico (who some how has gotten a third mask), he's not so afraid of the match. Also, he's still idol of the kids.

Mistico retorts - he's got a plan, and he's going to get his revenge on Atlantis. The fans are chanting Mistico, which greatly upsets Leobardo. Mistico ups his challenge to a mask/mask challenge. Mistico makes fun of Leobardo and that ends the interview.

That's it.
