CMLL GDR - 11/27/05 (#1)
Recapped: 02/15/06

This is the first Guerreros del Ring show, which didn't air on it's scheduled Saturday time (at least in the US), so I missed it till I got a DVD. Awesome looking lineup, though.

Match 1: Tarzan Boy vs Hector Garza
Arena Coliseo, 11/20/05

  1. Garza small package (2:52)
  2. Tarzan suplex (3:05)
  3. Tarzan 'rana (2:29)

Winner: Tarzan (2-1)
Match Time: 8:26
Approx Rating: If you want Hector Garza cheating spots, this one's for you.
Other Match Notes: These guys are current CMLL Trios champions, not that anyone cares. Tarzan is cautious, but gives Hector a big ol' thumbs down. I think he's sorry he's going to have to do it, but he's going to do it. You may be surprised, but Hector wants a handshake. Gets it, raises Tarzan's arm, and punches him!

Stomp stomp stomp some more. Whip, clothesline. Hector hasn't PdM taken off his shirt yet, but he has time for a prayer. Boot to the head. Is that a new ring mat? The logo looks funny. Garza works over Tarzan in the corner, Tarzan turns it around, Garza pleads innocent, the ref hooks Tarzan's arm, and Garza takes the opportunity. Garza kicks Tarzan down. The fans are with Tarzan here. Corner whip, Garza clotheslines him. Slam, float over cover with his feet on the bottom rope, one two no. Garza's got his beard cut in a seriously odd fashion. Chest slaps. leg choke on the ropes - pulling the hair to make it doubly illegal! Kick to the back. Powerbomb? Yes. Garza calmly going out and up, in no hurry - somersault senton, Tarzan rolls out of the way, but Garza rolls to his feet easily. He waits for Tarzan to get up and - plays dead? Hmm. Tarzan looks at the crowd, Garza starts to sit up, Tarzan turns back around and Garza's still out. Tarzan picks up Garza - and Garza gets him in a small package one two three. (2:52) Someone's been watching his Eddie Guerrero tapes. Replays - with flashing arrows! Break

Heavy Metal tells us to watch the best lucha in the world on Can51

We return, and Hector is finally taking off his shirt. Tarzan is still annoyed, and Hector wants another handshake. Tarzan's not in the mood, man. Tarzan tries to rally the crowd, and Hector kicks him in the back. Hector with a whip, and a back elbow. One - Hector stops covering and complains about the slow count. Whip, Tarzan with a Sunset flip, one, Hector kicks out and complains about the fast count. Tarzan asks the ref what's up, and Hector kicks him from behind again. Hector waits for Tarzan to get up, and chest slaps him down. Whip, Tarzan over, under, rolling over, rolling under, an landing an armdrag, another, another - no, Hector was waiting for that one and pulled away. Kick in the ribs for being dumb, Hector says. Hector's schooling Tarzan here. Tarzan's set up in the corner for a punch. Corner whip, Hector charges, Tarzan moves out of the way (way early), Hector takes a handstand bump to the floor, Tarzan spots him, says a prayer and runs - TOPE. Replay of the "supersonic!" tope, according to the announcers. Replay of the kick to the ribs too, because why not. Hector's invited back in, and charges, Tarzan catches his clothesline, puts on a hammerlock from the reverse side, and picks him up for a bearhug. Tarzan switches to a facelock, and suplexes Hector over, one two no - wait, three? (3:05) Hector unquestionably kicked out there (even before two) and the ref keep counting. Tarzan didn't think there was anything odd, but Hector's protesting it. That was odd. Break.

Misterioso II tells us to keep watching.

Hector's walking around the ring in between falls, but comes in for the whistle. Tarzan tries to rally the fans - there's women with him, at least. Seems like Hector pulls down Tarzan's trunks twice, and we get generic crowd shots as the women scream. Hector kicks Tarzan down in the corner, and hits a questionably low sliding dropkick, but the ref is letting it go. One two no - well, the ref decided he wasn't counting it because he could see that Garza had the ropes anyway. Hector argues this and gets rolled up in an inside cradle, one kickout ref counts two anyway. Replays are inconclusive about the low blow. Hector wants a timeout, points to something behind Tarzan, and Tarzan Boy actually turns around. Gosh, he's dumb today. So after Garza's dropkicked him, he corner whips him. Corner clothesline. Tarzan drops to the mat, and Garza covers him with his hand on the rope in the most obvious manner possible One two three? no, the ref says he saw the hand. Hector is unhappy with the referring. Corner whip, reveres, Tarzan charges in, Hector backdrops him, Tarzan lands on the apron and forearms Hector away. All the way up - missile dropkick. Garza falls across the ring, purposefully putting a leg over the ropes. We watch a replay instead of what's next, though it doesn't seem like Tarzan's going for a pin directly. When we look back, Tarzan's got a 'rana (though he had to fight for it) and grabs the ropes outside the ref's view - one two three. (2:29) This time, Hector stayed down for all three, though he's not so happy about how that rope grab was missed. Tarzan says a prayer - he should be thanking some God he wont this match. Replay of the 'rana. Hector still can't believe it - he tries to get the fans to stick up for him, but it's not happening.

Match 2: Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis vs Mistico, el Hijo del Santo
Arena Mexico, 11/18/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 7:44
Approx Rating: Short but fun.
Other Match Notes: Atlantis and Ultimo are wearing awesome split masks and each bring all their belts - NWA LH, CMLL LH and WWA Tag Team is the one I have trouble placing. They're out to We Will Rock You. Crowd seems excited for all of this. Mistico and Santo do separate entrances - which works out bad, because GdA punks out Mistico on the ramp as he enters. Santo hot foots it to help, but Atlantis and Ultimo have already press slammed Mistico in the ring. Atlantis meets Santo as he enters with knees. Whip, spinebuster. Ultimo takes Mistico out of the ring and works him over while Atlantis punches Santo some. Let's look at the ring girl who never made it to the ring. Is Atlantis going to bite Santo's mask? Ultimo brings Mistico back in to give him the high flapjack. Atlantis asks him to toss Mistico his way, Ultimo press slams him towards Atlantis, Atlantis catches him on the fly and spinebusters him down. Atlantis is thrilled. Ultimo knocks down Santo, who still covers up Mistico from further punishment. Ultimo picks him up, fireman carry drops him on Atlantis 's knee for a big gutbuster. The rudos put the Tecnicos on the corners to untie their masks, and don't have much problem doing it - the tecnicos wait to the last second to fight it, and Atlantis gets Mistico's mask 95% off before he's pulled back. Ultimo and Mistico are pulled back into the ring, whipped into each other, and tossed into each other. Atlantis sets up Mistico on the rope, Ultimo whips Santo into Atlántida (2:17), and Ultimo gives Mistico the Guerrero Special. That's that. (2:20) Atlantis finds a girl in to celebrate with - she must be the girl from the U18 team who wore the Atlantis mask after a goal. Break.

Atlantis and Ultimo are still celebrating, but a Mistico chant's started up. Atlantis responds by running Mistico into the apron. He's thrown into work on, though the fall hasn't actually started. Atlantis has words with one of the referees and shoves him a little but, but I guess not enough for a DQ. The announcers are talking to someone here, but I don't know who (I later figure out it's the the futbol player who wore the Mistico mask.) There may be a clip - we go from a crowd shot to seeing Ultimo and Santo up and Atlantis and Ultimo tossing Ke Monito at them! Rudos attack them while they trying to keep Monito safe. Another crowd shot, and we turn back to see the tecnicos rallying: rudos miss a double clothesline on Santo, and Mistico gives them a springboard dropkick! Finally, there's the whistle, and this fall isn't going to last long. Double whip, double jumping headbutts. Atlantis and Mistico are set up on the corners, and now it's the tecnicos untying the rudos masks, and getting a fair bit off. The announcers may be talking to the girl now - she's totally with Atlantis because he's the hero of the kids, after all. Ultimo and Atlantis are whipped into each other a couple times. Mistico holds Atlantis down so Ultimo can do his top rope somersault senton straight into an up and over sunset flip on Ultimo, one two three. (1:26) Mistica gets La Mistica on Atlantis, and it's all tied up. (1:31) Fans are thrilled.

Ultimo and Atlantis are regrouping on the ramp - Atlantis is making "I've got the belt!" motions for no particular reason. I guess it's hard to make "I've got the trophy" motions! Atlantis and Mistico to start. Mistico rallies the crowd, and Atlantis is thrown off by their chanting. Atlantis sidesteps a flying headbutt, and gives Mistico a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker before pointing at his muscles. Atlantis does a celebratory lap. Elbow drop for Mistico, no one home, Mistico off the ropes, and Ultimo trips him up. Ultimo comes in to help stomp a mudhole in poor Mistico. Double whip, Mistico ducks Ultimo clothesline, backflips off of Atlantis, but Ultimo catches him on his shoulder. No problem for Mistico, he just armdrags his way free! Springboard armdrag sends Atlantis out, and 619 drops Ultimo. Santo's pumped - into watch Mistico springboard 'rana Ultimo, sending him out. Santo gives Mistico a huge for being awesome while the rudos regroup. SANT O SANT O SANT O. Atlantis requests a timeout to talk about a plan. Atlantis lures Santo over, and Ultimo attack shim from behind. Corner whip, Santo boots Atlantis on the charge, runs out, and gets that double armdrag/headscissors. Santo off the ropes, Ultimo throws him up in the air, Santo dropkicks Atlantis out, and gets a tilt-a-whirl armdrags on Ultimo the next pass. Mistico teases a dive, which freaks out the rudos, and Ultimo heads up as Mistico backs up - Mistico huge plancha on Atlantis! Santo top rope plancha on Ultimo! Replays, and the crowd chants for Mistico as he comes back in. Mistico and Atlantis in, Mistico off the ropes, going for La Mistica, but Atlantis flips him out of it at the last moment. Atlantis tries the low blow kick, but Mistico blocks, shoulderblocks Atlantis, turns, and collides with one ref. Mistico is despondent as the ref bumps out of the ring, and Atlantis is thrilled - now he can fake for a DQ! Atlantis goes down claiming a low blow, which would be great except the other ref didn't get bumped and was watching the whole time. The ref tells Mistico to go ahead and cover him, Mistico does, one two THREE! (3:51) Ultimo tries to make the save, but Santo YANKS HIS MASK and grabs him in a small package one two three. (3:53)  That's some revenge. Mistico and Santo huge and celebrate as the rudos complain about the injustices of the world. No dice.

Ultimo gets on the mic and complains about the cheating - that should be a DQ! Atlantis says the GdA are the true winners, and they leave in a huff. Mistico says something that upsets Atlantis, who then challenges them to a super libre match, mask vs mask. Yea, no. Nice try though. Mistico and Santo lead the crowd in chants, and the fight rebreaks out when we're not looking. Atlantis taunts Mistico from a safe distance. Replay of the finish. They tease the fight one more time, and that's how we go out.
