CMLL Mini Line - 10/29/05 (#192)
Recapped: 11/4-5/05

Match 1: Dr. X vs La Mascara for the Mexican Welterweight Championship
Arena Mexico, 05/13/05

  1. Dr. X suspended double armbar (2:21)
  2. Mascara inverted Gory Special (:53)
  3. Mascara rocking horse (4:27)

Winner: Mascara (2-1, new champion)
Match Time: 7:41
Approx Rating: Okay, but not up to title match standards.
Notes: We go from dancing to the ring, with both participants already in side and ready to start. Dr. X is wearing an all white outfit. Mascara is wearing usual grab with inverted colors - lots of black and little yellow.

Lockup, break. Lockup, Dr. X pushes the taller Mascara into the corner. Circle. Lockup, Mascara pushes Dr. X in the corner, shoves him, and rolls back. Lockup, headlock. Nitro is his trios partner's corner. Maximo's in La Mascara's corner - they're actual cousins (part of the Brazo family), but I don't believe they've referenced that here. Just an undercard tecnico friendship. X with a headlock takedown. Terror Chino is your ref, by the way. X leans on top for one. Snap mare, Mascara lands on his feet, connects on a jumping knee for zero. Chops. Whip, let's stop looking at Maximo, armdrag and armbar by Dr. X. Announcers were very vocal there, so it must be some Magadan/Maximo humor. Mascara knees and kips up into an armdrag. Zero leg trip exchange. Standoff. Shove exchange. Dr. X misses on his clothesline, Mascara does not misses on his dropkick. Dropkick again. Off the ropes, 'rana by Mascara is is blocked and it's behind the back face first powerbomb instead. Dr. X rolls thru into his trademark wacky submission, a suspended double armbar kinda move. That'll do. (2:21) Replays of the finish. Break.

Dr. X misses on the charging dropkick to start the fall. Mascara gets in a hiptoss, and a clothesline. Trying to rally the crowd. Off the ropes, passed, and into a Dr. X big boot. Chest slap. Whip, boot is ducked this time, and Mascara comes with a typical spinning headscissors. Nitro's mask is really shiny this week. Mascara off the ropes, X puts his head down too soon, and Mascara loads him up an inverted Gory Stretch! Mascara walks around and cranks it in - and it's over like that. (:53) The problem with these short falls is how unbelievable it becomes when guys are dead tired two minutes into the dramatic third fall. They really shouldn't be when there's been as much time between falls as during falls, as there will be here. Replays.

These two actually start fighting before the last whistle, X getting a takedown, going off the ropes, over, passed and springboarding an armdrag. Mascara rolls all the way out, but no dive. Mascara comes back in, catches a kick, evades punches, spins Dr. X, and drops him with a clothesline. That tense is getting on my nerves. X tries another kick, but Mascara spins him out. Mascara appeals to the crowd, and the crowd's not really with him. Not as much as it should be. Chop battle. Maximo rallies the crowd. X with a shoulderblock, off the ropes, and into a rolling dropkick by Mascara. X goes out, and there's a nice bullet tope. Towel waving! Always my favorite part. Mascara stomps X and tries to get in, as we go back for replays. Hey, dudes, there's a match going on here? You might want to - there we go. From Dr. X's gestures, he thinks he beat the count back in and Mascara did not, but Mascara's in behind him and the ref isn't calling this one over. Mascara pulls Dr. X back into a cavernaria. Will Dr. X lose like this? No. That would've be lamed. Mascara small package one two no. Mascara off the ropes, bodyscissors cradle, kinda blown, and Dr. X kicks Mascara away. Mascara with chest slaps. Corner whip, Mascara charges in, X backdrops him to the apron, Mascara waits for Dr. X to finally turn around so he can forearm him. Mascara going up, but Dr. X is punching him there. Dr. X hangs Mascara off the rope - hanging spinning neckbreaker! That should do it. One two t-Mascara grabs the bottom rope. Dr. X working over Mascara. Fireman's carry lift, and Mascara is dropped over the top rope to the floor. Dr. X to the apron - running somersault body press to the floor. Dr. X gets back in as we take a look at replays. Again, Dr. X is celebrating a count out win without it actually happening. and Mascara takes advantage into a headscissors cradle - into a rocking horse. That'll do it. (4:27) New champion. Maximo carries Mascara on his shoulders for about two seconds before we go to break.

Match 2: Hector Garza (c), Halloween, Damian vs Heavy Metal (c), Mascara Magica, Negro Casas
Arena Mexico, 05/13/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:48
Notes: Heavy Metal wears the IWRG Heavyweight Championship belt to the ring, I believe. Mascara Magica is still introduced as a physical education teacher, though we can't specify the university anymore. Negro's CMLL robe is nice. Damian has the cane. Metal meets FdT on the ramp but they don't feel like beating him up just yet.

No beatdown to start. Negro and Hector face off and pound each other instead. Negro ends up going after FdT and they try to crotch him on pole, but Metal and Mascara break it up. Brawl breaks out there, tecnicos in control. Metal tosses Halloween into the seats. Hector tries to have a nice sane match with Negro instead, but Heavy wants in. Negro takes a cane shot from Damian, and the beatdown is on. Hector is thrilled with his finishing hold on Negro, and why shouldn't he be? They never pin the other guy, and I'm not all that surprised. The high tech TD replay system (with arrows!) illustrates the cane attack. One could be generous and say Mascara gave up while having a mudhole being stomped in him, but I think they just forget who the captain was.

Beatdown goes on. They fake like they're going to let Metal go one on one with Hector, and ambush him. He gets a double team facebuster. Damian is ripping off Kevin Nash to a disturbing degree. Mascara and Metal randomly and simultaneously turn around beatings in the corner to start the comeback; Negro gets the flashy moment of surprising Hector with a running clothesline. There's the painful dropkick to the face. Finishes were all at the same time, good enough. Replays. Hector tried to duck out of the way of the dropkick, and it ended up hitting him even more squarely in the face. That's not fun at all.

Reset to start the final fall. Negro and Hector again, though we quickly go thru people coming into break in others' submission hold. Halloween's double underhook powerbomb looks a lot like a double underhook piledriver. Mascara doesn't check his neck, so I guess he felt much better than that looked. Hector takes the corner knee bump to to the floor and gets speared by a Magica tope. Negro gets in a dropkick to the knee with out going for a La Majistral, which felt odd. Later, when he's going for a dive, Halloween ambushes him with a spear. Metal gets revenge with a clothesline. Damian and Negro end up battling to the apron, Negro putting Damian  into the post, turning to give the running Thesz pres to Halloween, and Metal drops Damian with a dive of his own. Garza and Magica into finish it. Magica getting a spinning armdrag and a spinning 'rana, but Garza taking back control every time with a clothesline for a near fall. Garza gets a sunset flip for two, Magica reverses it to be on top, but Metal and Negro don't see it in time and dropkick their partner. The rudos quickly take advantage of the chaos and numbers. F5 on Heavy Metal, Muscle Buster on Negro Casas, both are set up for Garza to finish with a top rope moonsault. One two three. Replays.

Vignette: Coming soon, Groon. Oh no. Watch him change masks right before your eyes.

Stellar Moments
Doloroso:
Dos Caras Jr. nails Universo with a climb up enziguri. Dos' plant foot almost caught Universo in the face as well.
Tecnico: Ricky Marvin gives Hooligan a spinning headscissors off the apron to the floor
Llave: Dr .X gets his hold on La Mascara.
Tope: Ricky Marvin nails Virus, almost flipping on impact. That was a head to head collusion.
Admirable: Dos Caras presses Averno, then German suplexes him. Averno landed on his shoulders and neck.

Vignette: Ultimo and Rey talk in the GdI war room. You can tell by the big poster they have behind them. Ultimo is wearing the mask with his mouth being covered. They have to take on Tiger Mask and Ultimo Dragon. They're legends, but they're better. Ultimo has a surprise, too - Olimpico! Nice to see him up and walking. They're all going go out to eat - except Rey, the other two decide he still needs to work out a little more. Rey's SO hungry. When Rey finally turns, it's going to be about food, isn't it?

Match 3: Ultimo Guerrero (C), Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy vs Tiger Mask I (c), Ultimo Dragon, Dos Caras Jr.
Arena Mexico, 05/13/05

  1. Tecnicos
  2. Tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-0)
Match Time: 7:41
Approx Rating: Short, fine for the time but nothing memorable. Tiger Mask was a non factor.

Other Match Notes: In case any lawyers are checking, he's actually introduced as Tiger Enmascardo, but Tiger Mask I is easier for me to write. Nice touch putting Dos here, as he might get something out of the association. Weird it's Ultimo who gets the last entrance. Do you think he sometimes still expects the fire to shoot up when he does that pose? Ultimo and Tiger's valets have special outfits for the occasion. Tarzan is still wearing the half Olimpico tights. As this is match #4023 in the Ultimo/Ultimo Death Feud, Guerrero wastes no time attacking Dragon and going for his mask, but he gets rudely dropkicked to the floor by Dos.

I think we're getting a clip early on, but actually no. Beatdowns to start, though, complete with mask ripping. Monito is out with the tecnicos - I think he came out during Dos' entrance. Dos takes a double diving shoulderblock. Tiger gets the GdI Sit on the ramp. Dragon takes a Tarzan Boy dropkick. Dos back in, but turns the tide by landing on his feet after backdrop. Ultimo and Rey manage to get control back up by punching everyone. They set up the big blue step on the ramp - triple SUPERBOMB off the box! He's dead! That's a DQ! (3:32) Dos has been taken down a peg. He's Uno now. Doctor is checking on him, which is good, because he just got killed. Replays. Dos's back landed at the point where the ramp meets the ring, and his head bounced off the apron. No fun.

Since they didn't get their fall win, this brawl is just going to continue thru falls. Dos must be doing okay, because Ultimo slams him on the floor. Tarzan and Rey work over the Japan duo in the ring. Ultimo back in with Dos. Whip, reversed, and Dos belly suplexes Guerrero out of the ring t, to the ramp! Double clothesline for the other two. Comeback is on. This is moving a bit quick. Guerrero takes the slam on the floor. Dragon and Rey brawl deep into the crowd. Dos and Guerrero have settled into a normal match, one not going well for Guerrero. Dos gets some mask ripping revenge, monetarily totally exposing Guerrero's face. Tarzan tries his luck versus Tiger, and it doesn't go well - Tiger gets in a pescado (barely). Dragon and Rey, with Rey taking the monkey flip to the rope, but stopping the Asai Moonsault before it can happen. Rey tries his own back to the floor dive, and eats boot. This leaves Dos and Guerrero in the ring, Not much mask left on either guy. Guerrero gets in a back elbow and celibates. Whip, head down too soon, and Dos kicks it. Press, dropped into a German one two three. (4:09) Dos talks a bit after the match - he wants Ultimo Guerrero in a match next week. Break.

Vignette: Metro is coming. And good for him. I think I know how he's getting here!

Back, to watch Dos and Guerrero fight all the way up the ramp. Referees eventually break it up. Lots of replays.

Match 4: el Hijo del Perro Aguayo vs Mistico
Arena Mexico, 05/13/05

  1. Perro double stomp Mistico (3:18)
  2. Mistico satellite armbar (2:38)
  3. Mistico la Mistica (11:28)

Winner: Mistico (2-1)
Match Time: 17:24
Approx Rating: 91. Fun crowd, fun match, lacking a bit of a story in between the spots, more so in the first two falls.
Other Match Notes:
Mistico enters second, which isn't evident at first. It becomes clearer when he randomly strips off his cape and dives out of the screen - on to Perro. I thought he was going stage diving for a second. Mistico ducks a clothesline, but ends up taking a backdrop on the ramp. NO fun. Perro beats him into the ring. Off both sets of ropes, an a dropkick to the back of the head. After we take a look at the matchup, we come back to Perro sanding over Mistico and punching him in the head. Chop knocks Mistico into the corner. Perro gives him a running jump stomp to the chest, and then takes it outside for more beating. Mistico's brought in just enough to break the count, then taken down on the floor - slingshot into the front row! He's crazy. Perro chucks Mistico back in. MIST E CO. Perro in no hurry. Looking at the crowd. Whip, clothesline misses, Mistico back with a spinning headscissors. Off the ropes, slingshot corkscrew plancha! He landed it good. Kicks for Perro on the floor, and then Mistico goes up - second rope moonsault to the floor! Perro catches him but collapses. Mistico brings Perro back in, slams him, and says he's going up. Crowd isn't sure. Moonsault comes up empty! Perro pulling him up quick - German suplex, pulling him up, German suplex!  Yanking Mistico up by his mask, slam, calling for it, off the ropes, double stomp. Cover with a pieface, one two three. (3:18) Perro is convinced he's the greatest man of all time. That's a heck of three minutes.

Replays - we actually join them in progress. Mistico landed a lot safer on the first German Suplex than second. Replay takes you move for move thru each of his finish. I love how the replay indicates the force in the stomp is down. I had no idea. Perro loads up Mistico on the top rope, facing out. He wastes no time grabbing an eye hole and yanking it apart. Mistico is pulled down in to Tree of Woe, and Perro nails a running dropkick to his midsection. Kick. MIST E CO MIST E CO. Perro asks the fans to be quiet. Corner whip, Perro takes his time, charges, and Mistico moves out of his way. Mistico sweeps the leg, and throws Perro around by his hair. Clothesline takes Perro out on the apron. Superkick, 619! Perro wanders to the floor, so Mistico goes up top - top rope plancha to the floor! They're plugging something on Sky - an upcoming PPV? Replays. Perro's slow to get back to the ring. Is he coming to make it? Yes., but Mistico immediately gets the satellite armbar for the win. (2:38) Immediate break.

Perro charges Mistico, but Mistico sidestep the dropkick. Perro begs off, but it's not going to help him. Chop, chest slap, thrust kick. Mistico is pumped. Chest slap. Headlock, shot off, back with a shoulderblock, but Perro spins Mistico out on it. Perro off the ropes, into an armdrag. Mistico with a kick to the back. Whip, reversed, Mistico climbs the ropes on the runs and comes down with a flying armdrag. Perro out, but this time Mistico is just teasing a dive, then waiting for Perro to move into range for a tope! Perro gets sent over the first row into the second, and from his expression, it's not a fun landing. Mistico's hurting too. Both are in danger of being counted out. I can't believe how many dives Mistico's gotten in such short time here. Replays. We go back live just in time so see Mistico get a 'rana on Perro in the ring - one two NO. Mistico ducks a clothesline, reveres a tilt-a-whirl to a small package one two NO! Mistico with a slam, and he's thinking about going up. Crowd doesn't like the idea, announcers don't like the idea, and Mistico takes too long thinking about it. Perro stops him, meets him up there, and superplexes him off, one two NO. Suplex by Perro, chaining it into a Northern Lights suplex one two NO. Perro stomps Mistico, but Mistico gets a leg trip and up to his feet. Perro backdrops him to the apron, and pulls out a Jericho springboard dropkick to send him to the floor. Perro goes to the apron, and crushes Mistico with the apron dive Thesz Press. Perro lands right next to a couple of his fans, which is even better. A women kneels down on the floor to urge Mistico to get back up and fight on. He's going to have to hurry to get to the count, but he gets to the apron in time - springboard 'rana is caught/dropped into a powerbomb, one two NO. Perro's feet went out from underneath him, and it's good thing Mistico kept his head up. Perro picks Mistico back up and chops him down. Whip, clothesline misses, Perro gets in a shoulderblock, springboard off the ropes onto of Perro, but Perro spins it around into a powerbomb one two NO. Perro can't believe that count, arguing it - inside cradle one two NO! Perro up first. Whip, Mistico slides under, cross body caught by Perro and Perro gives him a side slam. One two no. MIST E KO. MIST E KO. Perro's not sure what more to do. Mistico lifted, and run chest first into the corner. Perro sits on top of him, one two grabs the ropes. Perro's getting frustrated. Mistico's pulled back into the center of the ring, and Perro says this is it. Double underhook - reverses into a Mistico fujiwara armbar! Perro's in a lot of pain, a lot trouble, but also moving the hold a lot - and he's got the ropes. Mistico with a kick, whip, reveres, Mistico back with a spinning headscissors which sends Perro out of the ring (and into some photographers). Mistico gathering himself - 619 to the outside for Perro. Mistico sets up on the ropes - Asai Moonsault splash meets Perro's feet! That's no good. Perro unties Mistico's mask, and pulls him back up and into the ring. Perro is happy with himself. Slam. Mistico's positioned, and Perro's going out and up. Crowd chanting for Mistico. Perro soaking in the moment, a bit too much perhaps. Top Rope somersault senton (!) misses!, Mistico rolling out of the way, then back to cover. One two NO. Why didn't the double stomp? Mistico drawing form the crowd. Slam, and going up again. Top rope moonsault, Perro moves, but Mistico lands on his feet. Mistico dropkick to the knee, Majistral but Perro escapes and gets on his own La Majistral one two thr-NO! Baby Richard checks on Mistico, but Perro's still fighting - dropkick aimed for Mistico gets Richard, and sends him out of the ring! Perro tries a low blow kick, Mistico blocks it and looks to the crowd - and Perro pulls his mask! Small package, but there's no ref. Baby Richard back in - one two th-NO! Mistico's got his mask back on. Perro can't believe Baby Richard wasn't in fast enough to count that. Shove for the ref! Mistico Tornado armbar! Will he give? YES! (11:24) Big pop. Announcers dub it an instant classic. Mistico gives Perro credit for a good fight post match, but he wants a Mask/Hair match. Hector Garza is out, and Mistico doesn't see it yet. He soon feels it, with Garza dropping him from behind with a forearm. I guess that's a no. Yea, Perro confirms it.

Vignette: Groon is coming.

Next Week: Dos Caras Jr., Heavy Metal, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Tarzan Boy, Halloween, Damian, Universo 2000, Ultimo Guerrero, Hector Garza, Hijo de Pierroth, Negro Casas, and much more.

Mistico is starting to get up, so Perro and Hector beat him down, pull his mask, and rip it apart. That's not nice at all! After replays, Mistico has a new mask and is collecting the money thrown in the ring. It'd be great if Perro came back and beat him down for the cash, but not this time.
