CMLL Mini Line - 08/20/05 (#184)
Recapped: 03/03/05, 03/11/05

This is the Dos Leyendas show, with all hype to the main event. They have a plaque for the vent, with the big hair match listed big, and the opener listed as "una lucha mas". Big crowd, which they take effort to show.

Match 1: Hooligan (c), Veneno, Arkangel vs Tigre Blanco (c), Chris Stone, Tigre Metalico
Arena Coliseo, 03/15/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:45
Approx Rating: Okay.
Other Match Notes: No entrances.

Metalico and Ark work armdrags to start. They go a good two minutes before tagging, but don't restrict themselves to the mat. Chris is wearing his mini mask again. He and Hooligan are next, working more holds. Their sequence just kinda ends. Veneno and Blanco last. The rudos are all wearing black here, which is more co-ordination than usual. They head to a dive pretty quick, Blanco going thru the ropes for a senton con giro on Veneno. The other four end up in the ring, Ark gets an upside down double armbar on Chris (4:35) and Metalico takes the Hooligan Clash. (4:41) Break.

We rejoin mid second fall and early in on the beatdown. Blanco gets stomped to pieces first, and Metalico then takes corner charges. Announcers are discussing Veneno to no particularly end. Chris Stone comes into take a double backdrop. Chris is stretched in the corner.   Blanco coming in disrupts that, even though he's out as fast. Metalico comes back in, ducks a double clothesline (Veneno taking it instead), and the comeback is on quick. Chris gets in the 619, Metalico shows off an apron dive into a bodyscissors armdrag. Blanco sets up Hooligan on the top rope for a Stone top rope headscissors (with Hooligan doing a lot of the work.) That's it for the fall (2:59) though Blanco gets a submission on Veneno about the same time too. Replays.

Hooligan and Tigre Blanco exchange chops to start, and Hooligan makes the mistake of whipping Blanco. Getting him going gets him a rana, an armdrags, and a slingshot headscissors on the floor. Metalico is ready to go before Arkangel is even in, and Ark only gets avoidances before Metalico gets him with a spinning headscissors. Hooligan takes his partner place - do they only trust him? They shouldn't, because a cross body into an armdrag goes badly wrong. They recover, but they don't really. Veneno takes the approach of chopping hard and yelling harder, and it gets some limited results. Tilt-a-whirl backbreaker works. Rudos decide to go for another beatdown, cleaning off the tecnicos and giving Metalico a double chop on the run. Hooligan holds him up for a double dropkick, and Metalico is allowed out as the rudos stop to celebrate. Same set of moves for Chris Stone - at least in theory, because Veneno couldn't get the dropkick and just got a big boot instead. They go at with Veneno holding Blanco, but Veneno really doesn't get him up and the timing is' off before the tecnicos trip and pulls out the running rudos. Blanco get a two count we see one of, and Metalico and Stone do Asai Moonsault we see 1 1/2 of. While we're watching that, Veneno gets a Texas Cloverleaf on Blanco, that's it (3:05) and the rudos win both falls with sudden changes of momentum. Break.

In Ring: Dr. Wagner, wearing his NJPW jacket, promotes his feature in Los Luchadors. Valets show off the cover. This is still his house.

Match 2: Dr. X, Nitro (c), Sangre Azteca, vs Felino (c), Volador Jr., Safari
Arena Mexico, 03/18/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:42
Approx Rating: Good.
Other Match Notes: No entrances. For reasons unknown, half the valets are wearing silver outfits and silver hair. I'd like to have seen how that worked. Everyone gets a long in-ring entrance. This is non-title, but that's where we're headed.

Dr. X and Safari start, and can't get a lockup going to their satisfaction. Rudos all have a read thing going, so it's unfortunate Safari is wearing white and red. They do a little, keeping on the mat, but Sangre breaks up a chinlock by Safari, Volador comes in to stop him form doing more, and things have to be settled down for a moment before they can go on. Safari gets a near fall on a suplex, and this time it's Nitro who breaks it up, and Felino's who's ire is drawn. They go to the floor, and Felino makes the critical mistake of turning his back on the rudo corner. Sangre walks up beheading him and kicks him down. Nitro gets in his stomps, and stops Volador from helping with a chest slap. Nitro whip Volador towards Sangre way, who tries to toss him up into the ringpost, but it sounded a lot more credible than it looked. Those two down, all the rudos hit the ring to to team up. Safari is quickly given a triple boot, who then rolls out and sells it in a typical Safari manner. Felino's next in to press his luck, and only finds whammies. You'd like a team wearing like outfits to all be on the same page when they go for moves, so two guys aren't doing a powerbomb and one guys doing a flapjack. That's just a little lacking. Felino rolled out rather than take anymore, and Safari came back in. Noticeably, the rudos get a plan together this time before trying to execute the move: triple press slam. That's do. One two three. (3:50) Volador tried to break up the pin but was late, and won't be around for too long. This time, on a whip, Dr. X gives more effort to the hiptoss faceslam than Nitro. But then maybe he wanted to make sue he was the on e who got to dropkick Volador in the face. Sangre trumps us all with a great looking top rope headscissors, and this fall is over. (5:25) Nitro snuck in a senton there, but that didn't do, oh no. Hey, dudes, I'm not going to buy you as a killer rudo team if you can't manage to raise each other's arms successfully! Sheesh. Replays.

Felino takes a backdrop as the second fall starts. He doesn't last in long, and Safari's next. He's selling the open hand slaps big. Rudos set up for the GdA sit, but Dr. X gets pulled out when setting up for the run, and the come back is on. Nitro took a weird fall there. Volador gets a nice spinning headscissors, and a great (if monetarily worrisome) springboard moonsault to the floor on Sangre. Those to two are whipped on, and so the other four mix in the ring. Felino gets his typical reverse figure four on Nitro, and Dr. X takes the Safarina. (1:27) That was not the longest fall ever. Replays.

Guerreros regroup on the ramp in between falls. Back in, and Nitro and Safari start off. Safari is crazy staggered from a open and slap, and throws a nice forearm (though that may have been Nitro.) They strike back and forth before hitting the ropes, and the fire alarm. There's an odd pause, and an odd release tilt-a-whirl backbreaker by Safari. Safari celebrates being odd, and slightly grabs his knee - being odd hurts. Safari gets a armdrag from a standing fireman's carry, and follows Nitro out to the floor - Nitro doesn't want anything to do with him and walks away. Sangre and Volador, and I have a strong desire to see this as a match. Well, until Sangre tries a dropkick and gets as close as a Lex Luger punch. They come back with Volador doing agile flippy counters, leading to a crucifix into a spinning headscissors, sending Sangre out. Volador crushes him, and the people in front row, with a massive tope. That was fun. Felino and nitro, Felino out speeding Nitro, and dropping him with a forearm back to the head when Nitro stopped too soon to pose. Corner clothesline, armbar, kicks to the chest, dropkick to the head. Nitro comes in to sick up for his partner, Safari comes into stick up for his, and it starts to break down a bit. We're left with Nitro and Sangre in against Safari. They work Safari over into a corner, and talk a bit about what's next. Dr. X returns to help, but the corner whip leads only to bad - missed splashes, tilt-a whirl on Dr. X, Nitro stops it with a dropkick to take him out. Sangre leaps to the top rope, almost losing his balance up there, and diving out on Safari with a plancha. Volador back in and a house of fire - a shot for  Dr. X, a superkick for Nitro, Dr. X set up top - and here things go wrong. Volador tries a 'rana, Dr. X blocks, Dr. X realizes he's lost his balance and wisely pushes him both forward (so Volador falls on his chest instead of his head), and Volador sorta completes the move. Volador sells and Dr. X does not, so I guess that's supposed to be a powerbomb. Referees count as the announcers are slow to realize what happened. (3:46)  Nitro is much more successful in reversing Felino's 'rana into a powerbomb, and that's it. (3:50) The announcers figure it out, and at least Leobardo is happy about it. Break.

Vignette: from the 12/04/2004 Teleton, we see a feature about a child with health problems who gets tickets to Arena Mexico and meets with Shocker. On this show, Shocker introduces the kid to the crowd, and with the help of a walker and his dad, gets to walk down the ramp

Stellar Moments
Tecnico: Sombra de Plata lands a slingshot tornillo on Super Comando
Doloroso: Volador Jr. gets a triple dropkick to the head by Sangre, Dr. X and Nitro.
Spectacular: Hector tries a top rope tornillo on Apolo, but Apolo moves and Tarzan takes it.
Submission: La Mistica on Rey.
Combination: Rey gives Mistico the Pirate Bomb, and Ultimo puts Wagner in a grounded octopus.

Vignette: Ultimo meets with the rudos from the last match. They talk themselves up - Ultimo wants them to go win titles, masks, hair, whatever. Are they working out hard - yes, but they're eating well too. Ultimo says they can only do that if they pay for Rey too. They're sad.

Match 3: Ultimo Guerrero (c), Tarzan Boy, Hector Garza vs Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Shocker, Mistico
Arena Mexico, 03/18/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:03
Approx Rating: 86. As good as you'd expect.
Other Match Notes: Entrances. Wagner's using the cover version of Bad Medicine - so is everyone, actually. His valet gives out copies of the magazine. Shocker's music has an opening monologue and he gets big fireworks. While Garza and Tarzan have relatively sedate entrances, Ultimo has one of his crazy ones with Azteca Warriors dancing and pounding drums, and a big spear and such. He threatens to use it on the tecnicos, but hands it to safety. Break just before the match starts.

Crowd loudest for Shocker as we return. He and Tarzan start off with deliberate work on hammerlocks. Tarzan uses a Stunner as an escape, and Shocker doesn't even sell it. Gosh. Next is Garza and Mistico, with Garza bullying the smaller man and Mistico out maneuvering him, culminating in an apron dive spinning headscissors. Ultimo and Wagner are last. Crowd is very into the tecnicos. They brawl, with Mistico helping out with a missile dropkick before Wagner hits his usual apron dive. The other four mix it up in the ring, and after some effort (not straight away), Shocker gets a hammerlock headscissors cradle on Garza and Mistico gets la Mistica on Tarzan (6:23)

Ultimo and flippin' Mistico to start the second fall. Ultimo knocks him down after the pointless backflip, and Mistico ends up flipping to his feet and sending Ultimo out with a headscissors. Mistico tries a cartwheel into a moonsault dive over the ropes, Ultimo catches him, and Mistico armdrags his way out! There's a clip ahead into the middle of a Wagner/Garza exchange, but we still see a lot of them. Wagner trips Garza up to land face first on the apron. The rudos have had enough, and start the beatdown, with Mistico going up very high on the flapjack. Double drop toe hold, double elbow drop, and springboard dropkick for Wagner. We look at a banner for Wagner instead of Shocker getting beat. GdI sit for Shocker, and everyone poses for a pin. (2:59) Mistico brought back in, held up side down, and dropkicked in the head. Tarzan adds a People's Legdrop. One two three. (3:30) Shocker goes over to the announcers to rant and put down Magadan. Rudos beat up the tecnicos amidst replays.

Beatdown continues on. Ultimo press Mistico up, and Garza catches him on his knee. Clothesline to take him out of the ring. Wagner's pulled in, and they try to crotch him on the post, and the tecnicos just decide to stop that with kicks and such. Wagner spears Ultimo, which we only hear half of. Mistico admires the signs of the cross on Garza before hitting him, which is nice. Superkick count is up to 2 at least. Inside, Ultimo won't go down to Wagner's clothesline, but Wagner does drop to Ultimo's, oddly. Ultimo ends up taking the knee bump to the floor, so it's all good. Back inside, we get superkick #3. Tarzan and Mistico play a game of tag, and Tarzan loses pretty badly. Top rope springboard moonsault to the floor! Garza and Shocker, which Garza is happy about until they start chanting for the other guy. Shocker thinks about getting Garza with a moonsault, but Ultimo dropkicks him to the floor, and Garza drops him with a top rope tornillo. Wagner and Ultimo are the only ones left standing, and the crowd counts along with Wagner chops. Ultimo blocks them and puts Wagner on the top rope - top rope superplex one two THREE! (4:10) That was a bit surprising.

Match 4: Perro Aguayo Sr. & Perro Aguayo Jr. vs Cien Caras & Mascara Aņo 2000 in a hair match
Arena Mexico, 03/18/05

  1. Aguayos
  2. Capos
  3. Aguayos

Winner: Aguayos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:44
Approx Rating: More fun than it should've been.
Other Match Notes:
We get partial entrances. The capos are already in the ring when Perro Jr. decides to rush the ring by himself. It works out okay. Perro Sr. is wearing a shirt and black pants.

Aguayos separate the brothers and work over Cien in the ring as we look at the team graphics. Mascara comes in, Junior works him over while Senior disposes of Cien, and Junior fireman carry slams him to set up a Senior double stomp. Cover? No, they're going to pose instead. Junior slams Mascara, and Senior adds a second rope stomp, slipping and falling on Mascara on impact. (1:24) Cien in, and he's quickly worked stopped. Junior powerbombs him one two three. (1:54) Split crowd - some cheering and booing each side. Break.

Aguayos start the second fall firmly in control. Action is all brawl with Junior doing all of the non-strike work. Tide turns on a boot intended for Cien that gets Junior instead. Senior takes all sorts of bumps for Cien's offense, which is semi-surprising. Mascara gives Perro Jr. a snap mare on the ramp. Capos come together to stomp Perro Sr. out of the ring, and then go to work on Perro Jr. Cien sends up locking in a inverted figure four, and Mascara adds a double armbar to make sure he taps out. (2:11) Perro tries to brawl his way out of a bad situation, but he just takes boots and elbows. A Mascara back elbow does it, of all things. (2:34) Again, there are people booing and cheering at the finish.

It's a Reyes family beatdown in the third fall. Perro Jr. takes a double suplex, and a double hiptoss. He's thrown around by his hair and thrown out as we see a flashback to Perro Sr.'s run-in last week. This week, it's not going as well, as both Capos work him over to the corner. Perro tries the Aguayo fired up comeback, and it works for a few moments, before they put him down with headbutts. Perro Jr. comes in to help his father, and it's a four way brawl. Perro manages to duck a clothesline and dropkick Mascara out, leaving Cien and Perro in. Cien gets a small package, but Perro kicks out at two. Cien tries a grounded crucifix but again only two. Perro has Mascara's leg wedged in a chair and is kicking it as Cien gets another two count. Perro JR. jumps on the apron and holds Cien for his father, and again gets booted. Cien gets a sunset flip on Sr., but Junior rolls it back the other way and lays on top, one two three! (2:57) Aguayos are thrilled. Mascara may not make it back to the ring - he's still trapped in the chair. Junior comes over, painfully trying to free him. They do get him loose, and before the twenty count (which may have been altered.). Junior dumps Mascara in for his father to pound a bit. The crowd reacts to something as Junior comes in and Senior headbutts Mascara. Is someone coming down the aisle? We're all kinda waiting for it. Perro Jr. with a slam, and Perro Sr. adds a double stomp. Aguayos firmly rudo-ing it up now. Junior says HE wants to do a stomp. Senior with a fireman's  carry slam, Junior off the ropes - and Cien yanks him out of the ring! Both refs turn to yell at Cien, as does Senior and Mascara sneaks up to get him in a inside cradle and grabs the ropes one two THREE. (4:40) It's down to Mascara and Perro Jr., though Perro Sr. puts up an argument about the count. Junior isn't in the ring yet, recording and angry. Replay - and we come back to see Mascara pinning Perro, but not why. One two NO. Crowd into the match. Mascara with a painful looking back suplex one two NO. Mascara with a powerbomb, one two still no. Both are tired. What's Mascara signaling? Whip, head down too soon, and Perro dropkicks him out. Perro Sr. stomps Mascara, which would seem to be illegal but they're letting that all go in this match, and holds him for a Perro Jr. dive. Perro Jr. silla gets - a ref! Terror Chino down and KOed! Mascara moves, and so did Perro. Sr. Rafael en Maya is the only other ref, and they're letting the match go on. Perro is recovering on the outside, but quickly getting counted out. Perro Sr. helps his son back in, and Perro Jr. reacts to the Perro chant. Mascara gets him with a clothesline, and an elbow drop one two NO. Cien pounds the mat. Mascara with chops. Whip, reversed, Perro with a spinebuster, and he pounds Mascara with punches. Half crab!  Is that it? Perro Sr. is clapping. Here we go - Universo 2000 is out and angry, but security's cutting him off. Perro let's go and watches, Mascara spins him around, and low blow kicks him! The ref didn't see it! I think that signal means it's over. Mascara waves to his brother, who's being held at the gorilla position. Mascara covers one two NO! Perro grabbed the bottom rope! Mascara took too long. Cien is getting in shots form outside, and that's distracting the ref. Perro Sr. in - low blow uppercut to Mascara! He rolls Perro on top and leaves as the crowd loses it's mind - one two THREE! (10:16) Magadan's going nuts. Now Universo is back again, and security is barely able to keep him from getting to the ring. Break.

Back to see some haircuts. Mascara Aņo goes first as fireworks. Dr. Morales talks to Universo, who really really really wants a match with those Aguayos. Universo is very upset for his family, who walk off without their hair getting totally cut off - Cien just got it clipped a bit. Break.

Back, with the Aguayos still celebrating and talking to the camera.
