CMLL Mini Line - 07/09/05 (#178)

Welcome To The Show Vignette: none

Match 1: Ultimo Guerrero (c), Rey Bucanero, Averno vs Blue Panther, Atlantis (c), Negro Casas
Arena Coliseo, 02/04/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:26
Approx Rating: Ordinary.
Notes: No entrances. First fall is all clean - just a Atlantis/Rey sequence and a Negro/Ultimo one to set up the finish. Panther got an armbar on Averno post fall, and Rey tripped over the bottom rope coming in, so Atlantis didn't even have to do anything but laugh at him. Replays. Break.

Match is rejoined mid-second fall. Still, straight up, with tecnicos taking turns making runs on the rudos. Atlantis followed by Panther followed by Negro - who doesn't get his in before Averno pulls him out to start the Beatdown. Rudos untie Atlantis' mask, but leave it on. Panther's next t be beatdown, and takes a triple powerbomb to climax his section. Negro is brought in for three on two crab to finish. Replays, and straight into next fall.

Beatdown continues, taking it more into the crowd. Comeback seemingly clipped out - we go from rudo control to Panther getting a Farmer's roll on Averno. Negro gets thrown into his Thesz press dive, and we're left with the two captains in the ring. Ultimo takes a monkey flip out, and gets nailed by a Panther tope. Rey takes his partner's place in the ring, escapes Atlantida, stops a figure four attempt with a mask pull, and small packages him for the win. Replays. Break.

Match 2: Arkangel, Pierroth Jr. (c), Sangre Azteca vs Felino (c), Safari, Volador Jr.
Arena Mexico, 02/07/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 11:08
Approx Rating: Nothing special except for the Volador finish.
Other Match Notes: Entrances are shown. Tecnicos are Mexican Trios Champions going into this non-title match. Ring announcer has a huge medallion. Rudos, complete underdogs, come out to Boricua music.

Safari and Pierroth Junior to start, Safari getting the better of it quickly. Felino and Sangre, with a longer battle for leg holds. Volador and Ark last, off the ropes and the corners. They shrink the screen to promote Shocker for Luchador of the Year, with footage of him being Apolo Dantes from the previous week (not shown on Galavision). Parka AAA and Latin Lover are the other candidates. It's very distracting. Volador gets a run on the rudos, but ends up shoved out on a ropeflip springboard attempt (had some balance issues) and Sangre drops him with  tope rope plancha. That cues the finish. Arkangel finish could safely fit in the Wacky Lucha Submission category; Ark is holding Felino above him with his legs, and my description doesn't do it justice. I want to say it's a modified version of Safari's finish, but I haven't seen Safari's finish in a while. Break. Replays.

Second fall starts as a beatdown, which is kinda pointless unless they're winning in two falls. Sangre gets in a top rope headscissors on Volador. Felino's next to get beat. Safari tries to get in moves but is quickly stopped. He does manage to turn in a whip into a rebound double armdrag and start the comeback, after a two minute beatdown. Volador topes Pierroth, Felino lands on Ark with a springboard  tope con giro. Sangre gets wrapped into a headscissors cradle by Safari and everyone else gets counted out. Replays. Break.

Third fall is tecnicos taking turns running thru the rudos. Felino's first., taking care of Ark. Sangre and Safari. The rudos are getting the tecnicos down a little bit before their comebacks, which is nice. Sangre gets stuck in the ropes on a dropkick, but Safari brings him back. Pierroth breaks up a submission attempt and gets a near fall in his eventual exchange with Safari. Volador comes in to help out, but ends up missing on his 619 shot. Pierroth flips him on a German suplex, and powerslams Safari, but Felino breaks it up. Crucifix powerbomb for Pierroth, but Felino lets go at one because he sees Ark coming. Ark takes out Felino with a back elbow, Safari gets Ark with a sunset flip, Ark blocks, Volador tries a 'rana, but Ark blocks that too, and Sangre gets in a dropkick to Volador's head. Two count, broken by Safari. Sangre and Safari have a chop battle. Sangre ends up ducking out after a clothesline, but Safari gets him with a tope anyway. Volador kills Pierroth with a backdrop reversed into a spinning piledriver (looked nasty and don't know what they were thinking) but no one calls it a DQ. Felino gets a more conventional reverse figure four on Ark to close it out. To his credit, Pierroth Jr. sells it like he's dead - and maybe he is! Replays show Volador might have escaped prosecution by not hitting the move correctly - Pierroth ended up landing unbalanced, on one shoulder instead of on his head and neck.

Stellar Moments
Spectacular:
Tzuki with a springboard corkscrew plancha to the floor
Lance: Brazo de Plata Jr. connects strongly Ark strongly with a tope.
Combination: Stones with stereo topes on Masada and Mr. Mexico
Castigo: Sangre with a Guillotine stomp to send La Mascara form the apron to the floor. Hooligan assisted
Rudo: Ultimo catches Negro's Thesz Press dive, and rammed him back first into the pole. Ouch.

Match 3: El Hijo de Perro Aguayo, Pierroth (c), Hijo de Pierroth vs Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 (c)
Arena Mexico, 02/07/05

  1. Pierroth
  2. Universo
  3. Universo

Winner: Universo (2-1)
Match Time: 6:39
Approx Rating: Usual.
Other Match Notes:
Entrances. Perro rushes the ring on his and we're off.

Pretty crazy and heated brawl to start, with Pierroth's faction in control. Pierroth can barely slam Universo, and Perro slips and falls on the double stomp. That can't feel good. Quick. Replays. Brawl goes on, completely one sided.

Beatdown goes on. Lots of work on Universo in the ring, but nowadays, even Universo does the "roll thru a sunset flip and dropkick [Pierroth] in the head " spot, though in slow motion, and that starts the comeback. As is his habit, Perro retreats to the ramp and lets his partners take the worse of the comeback. Double crab on Pierroth does it. Replays. Break.

Third fall starts with the usual belt spots. Perro has come back to the ring, so he's worked over second. La Nazi is here - I hadn't noticed her till now. Capos pretty much ignore Hijo de Pierroth to work on the other two more. They get a triple dropkick on Pierroth before finally getting to Hijo. He takes a double toss off the top rope, and gets toped by Universo. Perro gets stomped down, so Perro Sr. is out to make the save. Fans boo., which is not the way I thought the big Perro return would go. Apolo Dantes runs out to even the sides, though there's no clear side in control for a while. Vampiro comes in from the crowd and attacks the Capos, and he's enough to clear the ring. Crowd anti Pierroth/Perros. Vampiro gets a hug from Perro Senior. Talking time. They set up the double hair match here. Cien says something which annoys Vampiro, and he goes out to talk about, which leads to the brawl restarting. They all brawl over to the announce desk so they can have some good sounds. Everyone eventually gets separated, and Perro Sr. repeats the challenge to the announcers, I think trying to get the idea over that he's really coming out of retirement and the match is really happening. I know I might have trouble believing it. Replays.

Match 4: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Shocker in the Copa Junior final
Arena Mexico, 02/07/05

  1. Wagner
  2. Shocker
  3. Shocker

Winner: Shocker (2-1)
Match Time: 15:22
Approx Rating: Pretty good with a great crowd. 88.
Other Match Notes: Entrances. They hype up who each man beat to get here. Shocker has a crazy Roman Alien mask on the way to the ring, and he's wearing makeup as a mask - in honor of his dad, perhaps? Ke Monito is also wearing a mask. Both men and Monito pose with the huge trophy before the match. Crowd's behind both men, and both men are pumped. Baby Richard is your ref. These two met way back in #29 (04/09/02), a pretty good match, and I'm not sure they've faced in singles since.

Both guys eye each other up. Handshake? Sure. They take a moment to get a ready, and go to opposite corners. Waiting for the other guy to make the first move. Or maybe we need another whistle to start? Inching towards each other. Lockup. No one has control, both battling for it, towards the ropes, Shocker shoved chest first in to the corner. He turns around, and they battle for leverage. Wagner pats Shocker on the face, and backwards rolls out into a pose. Circle. Triple screen as we see small replays of how they got here. Man, Volador got spiked on that Wagner Driver. Live, Shocker gets a waistlock and a trip, back up, hiptoss, pose. Lockup, Wagner with a headlock. Shot off, back with a spinebuster which spins Shocker out. Is that face paint or something sticky on Shocker's face? I don't know now. Wagner off the ropes, Shocker gives him a drop toe hold and an elbow drop. Boos as Shocker waits in the corner. Charging bodyscissors is reversed into a face first powerbomb, and Wagner trips Shocker in his own hammerlock/headscissors submission! That's it. (2:20) Big match, quick opening fall. Replays.

Wagner immediately drops Shocker, while we're still looking at the ring girl. Back into the fall winning submission, but Shocker can't give up this time. He also can't get out, which is a problem. He manages to inch it over to the ropes, and gets a foot on them to break the hold. Wagner up, and stomping him in the face. Chop. Corner whip, Wagner charges in, and drops Shocker with a clothesline. Corner whip, clothesline out, bulldog out. One two no. Wagner goes to the corner to think this out and maybe yell at Monito. WAG NER WAG NER. Whip, clothesline is ducked, Shocker with a spinning armdrag, hiptoss, tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Boos again - crowd is clearly for Wagner here. Shocker almost blows a bodyscissors cradle but they salve it, and he rolls thru to a side Bow and Arrow. Wagner gives up quick. (2:16) Some cheers, but more in the crowd want the Doc. Replay.

Final fall starts with 25 minutes of air time left. At least one break, but this fall should be a longer one. They start off with a forearm to the face battle, Shocker eventually ducks to his punch flurry, but misses on the big boot and gets caught in a tight dragon screw leg whip. Wagner looks at the crowd before following up, but lands the dropkick to the head. Shocker rolls on to the ramp, and Wagner forearms him when he stands. Suplex back in? Long pause before delivering it - and Shocker blocks it to try his own. Wagner blocks. Shocker blocks, Wagner - does not block! Suplex onto the ramp! Shocker back in to break the count, and Wagner's in a bit of danger of being counted out, but rolls in over the bottom rope in time. Shocker waits for him to get up and dropkicks him into the ropes. Charge again, Wagner armdrags Shocker over the top rope rope, but Shocker reverses it and sends Wagner to the floor. Shocker gets speed - slingshot tope con giro! Monito struts in celebration. Wagner is down and being counted out again as we take a look at a couple more angles on the dive. Shocker's still catching his breath as we and Wagner return, which is maybe why Wagner lands a clothesline without Shocker putting up any effort to stop it it. Wagner tires another clothesline, but Shocker blocks it and turns it into a back suplex. Shocker going up, though the crowd thinks it's a bad idea. Top rope elbow drop! One two NO! Pretty nice one, especially considering he doesn't do it much. Shocker slams Wagner, and tempts fate by going up once again. This time, Wagner's up too quick, and trips Shocker into being crotched. A punch deadens Shocker, and gives Wagner time to go all the way up - top rope superplex one two th-NO! Wagner up, and looking to the crowd. What he's going to do? Double underhook powerbomb one two NO! Both men tired. Wagner kicks Shocker in the back as he regains his breath. Long look at Monito. Wagner sets up Shocker - running powerbomb is reverse into a 'rana! Shocker SPEAR one two NO! Crowd's loud on each of these near falls; I can only imagine the decibels if they were miced like a RAW crowd. Crowd cheering Shocker on as he recovers.  Big chest slap. Corner whip, reversed, Shocker kips up into a corner sunset flip, Wagner blocks it by sitting on top, one two Shocker grabs the ropes AND kicks out. I don't know if Baby Richard saw the rope grab, and I think Shocker had the same concern. Wagner up first and slapping Shocker in the back. Waistlock rollup is rolled thru by Shocker, and he lands a big boot to Wagner's chest. Shocker gathers himself, and goes to the legs. Figure four, no, Wagner kicks him in the head from the mat. Shocker is up first, big boot caught, and he's dropped with a face first powerbomb. Wagner has his legs , and Shocker can't get too the ropes. Is he going to get it? Wagner has the legs tied, and fights Shocker to get the rams tied - TAPATIA!  Shocker's gets lose of the waistlock, and reverses it - STF! Wagner got a ways to go get to the ropes and isn't moving, but he won't give up either. Crowd chanting for Shocker now. Wagner insisting on continuing, and now moving the hold. He's almost to the ramp side ropes., just got move and reach - and he does. Shocker pulls Wagner up. Whip, quick reverse, Wagner short clothesline one two NO. Wagner thinking.  German suplex, no bridge. Wagner gathering himself. Shocker slips of Wagner Driver attempt - SHOCKER DRIVER! Shocker doesn't cover, but goes for a leg hold - Wagner small package one two no! Wagner misses the clothesline, Shocker catches the arm on the second try, headscissors hammerlock cradle one two THREE! (10:46) Crowd pops huge. Shocker is so thrilled, he can't even climb the ropes right. As the Cup is brought in, Shocker shakes and hugs Wagner. I think that's Marisol the weightlifter woman from the front row who's in here for no reason. Wagner gives Monito a look, and shakes hands with him. Some of the rowdy tecnico fans come down to pose with Shocker and the trophy, and then carry him around on their shoulders. Wagner gets the microphone. Tecnico fans do a Wagner chant for him, and carry him around! This is pretty awesome. Wagner congratulates Shocker, more or less. Shocker talks, and he's fired up. Wagner says he might have not won the cup, but it's still his house. They cut Shocker off in mid speech, which is wrong.

They've got five minutes of extra time here, so we get
- dance footage
- rowdy tecnico kids (wearing Vote For Shocker shirts) using their cell phones to vote for him, before he cuts a promo. EVERYONE STRUT!
- Next Week: Shocker, Universo 2000, Dr. Wagner, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Ultimo Guerrero, Vampiro, Rey Bucanero, Pierroth, Negro Casas, Taguchi (Debut)
- and more post match footage, with the fans doing a chant for Shocker. They have to drag this out with taped shots of the crowd previously to fill. We get to see Shocker's speech one more time too.
