Match 1: Mephisto vs Felino for the CMLL World Welterweight Championship
Arena Coliseo, 01/11/05

  1. Felino float around small package (2:23)
  2. Mephisto small package (1:37)
  3. Mephisto double underhook face first powerbomb (3:41)

Winner: Mephisto (2-1, retains title)
Match Time: 7:41
Approx Rating: Disappointing. (Maybe 80, probably less.)
Notes: This is based off the cibernetico finish last week. No entrances. Felino held this title for two years, before dropping it to Satanico, who dropped it to Mephisto a couple months later. This title has hard a hard time gaining any sort of profile or relevancy. Felino is weighing in at 78 kg (172 lb.) Mephisto is a shade under at 77.5 KG (171 lb.)

Circle, lockup, Felino with a quick heel trip and a sorta half crab. First going to the armbar, then letting go for a half crab, but Mephisto rolls through and gets a step over toe hold. Mep wants to add to it, but can't. Mep grabs Felino's arm from behind, Felino tries to get free with a drop toe hold, Mep doesn't go with it at first and then does. Looks like Sagrado's Felino's cornerman. I figured Averno was in Mephisto's corner, but it's actually his father, Kahoz. Kahoz is wearing his mask here, which would seem to be against the rules, but what are they going to do - stop him from not wrestling? Felino's got an armbar, but Mep reverses to his own fujiwara. Mep stands up to a armbar, and Felino uses the ropes to flip into a reversal, an armdrag and a headscissors on the mat. Mep reverses, and ties up Felino's leg. They have a slapping battle on the mat - Felino finally get loose with a headbutt, which hurts him just as much. Probably not a good idea to headbutt someone with spikes on his head. Both up and shoving each other. Felino shows off his kip up ability. Whip, shot off, Mep over, over, into a back elbow. Zero covers for Felino, and then a floata round small package one two three. (2:23) Cornermen to check in on their guy. Mephisto is dead from the small package. Or all the running around before it.

Both charge at the bell, but it's Felino who lands the dropkick to the knee. Probably shouldn't spend so much time celebrating it and taunting Kahoz about it. Mephisto's up, and he's clotheslining Felino. Mep off the ropes, boot to the midsection. Crowd shot here - clip? Mep off the ropes, his boot is blocked this time, and Felino ends up hitting him with a wheel kick. Felino waved by a corner charge, but comes back with a headscissors. Mep out, so Felino after him - double jump slingshot somersault bodyblock to the floor! Cornerman out to check on their men, and I'm not sure Felino knows he's feuding with Mephisto here and not Kahoz. Felino back in, content to win this one by countout, but Kahoz talks his man in. Mep off the ropes, and right into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Going to finish it, figure four - reversed into a small package. One two three. (1:37) Does no one here have a finishing move? Huh. Now Felino's dead from the small package. Break, and then some replays.

Corner pose off to begin the fall - Mep at least attacks Felino after he's doing posing. His chest slaps eventually get caught and returned. Felino lands a corner spear and decides to point it out to Kahoz. At that point, we switch to the crowd, and when we come back, everyone's in different positions. So huh. Felino off the ropes and flips for the dropkick to the knee before it hits him (seems to do that a bit, though the camera is never a help on that move.) Mep covers, one two no. Both charge with shoulderblocks, neither go down. Both off the ropes to try again, hurt but standing. Felino convinces Mephisto again, and totally cheats by not running to the ropes and clotheslining Mephisto when he's on his way. Felino off the ropes, 'rana by the ropes is blocked and dropped hard for a powerbomb (Felino's grabbing his head and I'm grabbing mine just watching - Mephisto never had a good hold of him), Mep covers and puts a feet on the ropes, one two NO. Both slow up. We look at the crowd, and then see Mep drop Felino in a forward fireman's carry slam. Mep thinking about going up and taking forever about it, so Felino slips underneath his legs. Face first electric chair slam. Felino wants to go up, but the crowd thinks NO. Felino's thinking about it, listening to the crowd, slowly going up, all the way to the rope, moonsault misses, he lands on his feet anyway, reverse bodyscissors cradle doesn't quite work but he gets a sunset flip anyway one [pause] two [pause] NO. I hate dramatic slow three counts! Felino off the ropes - oops, Kahoz tripped him. Felino can't believe that he'd tick off the cornerman for the whole match and pay for it. Felino decides not to do anything, ducks Mephisto's clothesline, and get a drop toe hold anyway. La Majistral one two NO. I like how they made Kahoz's trip mean nothing there. Except for the like part, I was lying there. Felino tries a clothesline, Mephisto catches it, kicks him in the stomach, Infernal Wings. One two three. (3:41) At least SOMEONE remembered he had a finisher. This was not what I was hoping for, I'm sure on that. There's clipping when they give the belt back to him. Some guy in street clothes comes into celebrate with him, but we can't see who it is. No one wearing a mask - family member?

Match 2: Mascara Magica (c), Loco Max, Dr. X vs Misterioso II (c), La Mascara, Maximo
Arena Coliseo, 01/14/05

  1. tecnico
  2. rudo
  3. tecnico

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:01
Approx Rating: okay
Notes:
Let's just pretend Magica turned rudo on a Guadalajara show we never heard about. It's easier that way. His hair is dyed blond totally now. His teammates are wearing Guerrero tights. Mascara vs Mascara to start. Magica's completely playing rudo hair, with mask pulls and narcissistic posing. Normal warm up sequence. La Mascara gets a momentary STF, but he's just building to a facelock. Armdrags, leading Magica out of the ring. Dr. X ad Misterioso now. Loco Max randomlly comes into break up a wristlock exchange, and then wants no part of Maximo when he comes in. They settle down to allow X and Misterioso to go back to their sequence - and then Loco breaks it up again and gets chopped by Maximo. Everyone lets them fight, after they're doing cheering, and we get to Loco Max/Maximo. I think this is Maximo's first appearance on Gala, ad he wastes no time in showcasing himself as a your typical CMLL undercard tecnico who happens to be a roman-themed exotico. Back to the captains, who face off in a chop battle. La Mascara whiffs on a handspring elbow, but Maximo helps him take back control as chaos breaks out. Mascara gives Magica a plancha on the outside, Maximo pins Loco after a springboard butt bump (5:20) and Misterioso has to work to get Dr. X locked in the Gory Neckbreaker properly, but eventually pulls it off. (5:32) Replays. Break.

Maximo seems more interested in the ring girl then you'd think. I love how they have two spins worked into their prescribed route. La Mascara gets the best of the rudos to start. He gets Magica hard with a spinning DDT in the process. Loco Max is waved back and forth off the ropes four times before he decides this is dumb, and then La Mascara dropkicks him. Loco Max flinches on a dive fake, and we're on to Misterioso. He looks good against Dr. X, and battles the rudos teamwork. A reversal looks a bit off, but otherwise okay. He ends it with a jumping enziguri on Loco Max, who may be dead. No one in to face Maximo. Magica appears to want a timeout. Dr. X ambushes Maximo while's he leading the crowd in cheers, and that's the start of the beatdown. Magica gives La Mascara a stunner over the top rope. Maximo takes a double flapjack on his face, and is leaned over the ropes for a dropkick. Misterioso tries to walks the topes in the process of a comeback, but gets tripped up. Loco almost misses him on his tope con giro. La Mascara gets a double flapjack, and then a double wheel barrow suplex. He's stood on his head till he gives - and I think he's dead and they stop it for him. (3:41) Magica poses for the benefit of the rowdy tecnico fans.

Beatdown picks up when the whistle blows. Loco Max missile dropkicks Misterioso. La Mascara is in to get beat. He gets a couple moments of mini comeback before he's beatdown down by the rudos. Triple boot connects. Maximo's turn and he's the one who avoids the corner charge (from Magica) and starts the comeback. Tecnicos clear the ring, tease a dive, and pose instead. Reset to Dr. X vs Maximo. They have a chop battle which ends with Maximo being kicked. He comes back to get a submission, but Mascara breaks that up. Misterioso in with a crossbody on Magica and goes for a Tapatia, Loco Max breaks that up with a sunset flip, Misterioso lands the follow thru dropkick to the head. LA Mascara gets in an Area Code on Magica while Misterioso covers Loco for two. Maximo needs up splashing both Loco and Magica, but gets thrown off. Boosted up dropkick only hits Magica not too well, but Misterioso makes up for it with a nice tope con giro. Maximo gets a low rocking horse on Loco (3:42) La Mascara gets a standing one on Dr. X. That'll do it. (3:48) Replays and a break.

Stellar Moments
Combination:
one Rayo Tapatio tosses Polvora up into a dropkick from the other Tapatio. Flecha gets pinned by an armdrag? Huh.
Spectacular: Shockercito lands a top rope springboard splash to the floor on Mini Violencia, and Tzuki goes thru the ropes for a tope con giro on Espectro Jr.
Triumph: the coliseo from last week, where Sangre obliterated Volador with a dropkick as he was flying in, and MR. Mexico killed Alan Stone with a powerbomb.
Tecnico: Volador Junior's guillotine legdrop on Sangre Azteca

Match 3: Ultimo Guerrero (c), Averno, Mephisto vs Dr. Wagner Jr. (c), Satanico, Brazo de Plata
Arena Coliseo, 01/14/05

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:54
Approx Rating: 84
Notes:
We come in on the tail end of entrances, as Ultimo and Satanico are yelling at each other while Satanico's music still plays. It's very animated discussion, and we unfortunately pan away - looks like they break it up before it leads to violence.

We take a look at the Wagner masks in the crowd as they chant for him. He exchanges shoves with Averno? Uh, okay. Porky scares Averno away with his size - Porky's like the size of two Averno's now, right? Rudos do the Guerrero huddle dance. It'll be Ultimo and Porky to start. Ultimo has a great mask, although it must be screwing with his vision. POOR KEY POOR KEY. Long test of strength between these two. Of Course Porky out maneuvers Ultimo on it. Long sequence between them in the first fall; about the first five minutes of the match before they switch. Good comedy. Averno and Satanico are next. Lots of feeling each other out here. Averno switches around his hands on the lockup to annoy Satanico, but eventually pays for it. Suddenly, one Satanico armdrag apparently sets off the rudos, who decide it's time for a beatdown. I guess I'll live without the Wagner/Mephisto sequence. Satanico ends up taking a triple powerbomb (though gentle) and gets put in a straight jacket by his formal pupils while Ultimo keeps him down. That's it for him. (7:04) Porky is immune to the rudo chest slaps, but they manage to give him a triple backdrop! Triple pose/submission ends the fall (7:35) Mephisto and Wagner do get into it, and Wagner's brought in and attacked by the rudos. Averno and Mep hold Wagner in the ropes for a low blow, but Ultimo is either completely unaware or totally uninterested. He eventually notices, but doesn't seem to care so much. Break.

We got the replays after the break. Look, pose! Averno and Ultimo almost fell down after giving Porky that backdrop. Wide shot as Wagner decides he's going to take on the rudos 1-3 before the fall gets started; we don't exactly know how well that goes because we're looking at the crowd and the ring girl, but I believe we can take a decent guess. Sure enough, Wagner's being worked over as the fall starts. Wagner can't get the comeback going, but unwise decision to send Porky in motion backfires. Averno corner charges as Porky is walking out of the corner, and Averno bounces right off him. Double clothesline for the two other two, and the comeback is on. As the other four fight outside, Ultimo bets off from Porky - Porky bites his hand and walks around with the hand still in shi mouth. Guess they aren't fighting outside, because everyone's back on the apron. Porky gets in more spots on Ultimo. He tries for the headlock/headscissors takeover on Averno and Mephisto, they shove him off, and he levels Ultimo in the process. Ultimo takes elbow drops before rolling out, and the other four end up in - Satanico backslides Mephisto (2:03) and Wagner gives Averno a big sit down powerbomb. (2:10) Tied up. Replays. Ring girl.

Third fall starts with Averno/Wagner. WAG NER WAG NER WAG NER. Averno's chest slaps aren't working. Wagner's kicks to the hamstring are. Wagner off the ropes, Averno leapfrogs his way into a powerslam. Snap mare, spine kick. Averno is hurting. Whip, reversed, reversed, short clothesline by Wagner. Averno out and Wagner talking trash from the ring. Mephisto ambushes him from behind - that sequence is now! I'm not really excited, sorry. Mephisto fairs no better, spending too much time looking at the crowd before following up. Corner clothesline, corner clothesline, bulldog for him. Ultimo in to try his luck. Wagner poses. Ultimo pulls him into the corner and lays in with chest slaps. Wagner calmly turns it around, and kills Wagner with knife chops. Crowd is loudly counting along, that's new. Ultimo eventually covers up, so he gets a kick to the gut and a running Tornado DDT. Wagner can not be stopped. Clip here? Porky's in the ring, and so is Mephisto, though he doesn't seem keen on this idea. Porky convinces him that they should do a sumo charge at each other. That goes badly - but what's worse for Mep is rolling out, only to be dropped by a Porky corkscrew plancha apron dive! Averno and Satanico, with Averno fired up and Satanico rolling out. Satanico yells at him, and Wagner takes his place in the ring. Averno's kick gets caught and he takes a dragon screw leg whip. Averno sent to the floor, and Satanico flattens him with the senton apron dive! Ultimo and Wagner, the captains, are left in the ring.  Ultimo tries to chest slap Wagner down, but no. Clothesline, no. Clothesline, still no. Wagner slaps him in the face though. Ultimo tries one more time, and Wagner surprises him with a clothesline. Wagner off the ropes, and Ultimo spears him! Stretch Muffler! He's turned it over and gotten his leg wrapped around Wagner's face - will he give? YES! (5:09) The key is watching these pointless matches months later, so you're surprised by the finish. Replays.

Match 4: GdI (Tarzan Boy, Rey Bucanero (c), Olimpico) vs Atlantis (c), Blue Panther, Mistico
Arena Coliseo, 01/14/05

  1. tecnicos
  2. rudos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:06
Approx Rating: 81
Notes:
Rey does the GdI huddle dance with front row rudo fans! Yay bell ringer. This group is indeed announced with the GdI name. Is Atlantis coming out to rap music? It's not gangster rap - more sounding like an alternate language them to Samurai Champloo than anything - but WEIRD. Not that we get to pay much mind to it, because Olimpico rushes him in the aisle. Rey waits for Panther and meets him on the aisle. Tarzan Boy draw the short straw here? He's waiting in the ring. Mistico waits for his entrance. Tarzan Boy uses the ringside people to give him a hiding space, so he's coming out of nowhere to layout Mistico.

Beatdown is on. Tarzan beats Mistico down in the aisle before he can get to the ring. Atlantis is wearing a top again. That's weird. Olimpico has the full GdI kilt going, though he still is doing the half tights deal. Atlantis gets isolated in the ring and worked over when things start to get settled down. Triple face first powerbomb for him. Mistico and Panther are bough brought in - Olimpico gives Mistico a jumping clothesline to his back and Blue Panther's face is dropped on Olimpico's feet. Mistico is crotched around the post - Baby Richard was looking right at it and decides that was fine. Atlantis brought in, and and everyone grabs his mask and pulls - that seems vaguely illegal, but pretty effective. It's pulled apart in no time, with Tarzan throwing out a piece of it to the crowd. They get it all off, and that's a DQ (2:51) Replay of mask yanking. Break.

We rejoin with the beatdown still going, though it's not exactly clear if the fall has started or not. Well, if I waited five seconds, it would be - there's the ring girl, having to carefully walk around Mistico's comatose body in the aisle. Atlantis is still in the ring, being held down by Tarzan Boy - though as we go around the ring, he does seem to slip away at one point.

Last Week: Mistico beat Tarzan Boy, but Tarzan Boy helped Olimpico end up on top for the win

This week, so far, not so much. Mistico's finally in the ring, taking ten foot high flapjack. Looks like someone's being helped to the back - probably Atlantis. Mistico gets set up facing out on the top rope, and GdI push him over into the Tree of Woe. Olimpico and Rey back up on the aprons as Tarzan backs up in the ring - triple dropkick to the face! Well, he's dead. Panther has manages to make it to the ring, so GdI will beat him up for a while. Rey holds him in the corner for the other two to work over, though Panther puts up a fight. Rey ends pulling him in the middle of the ring and giving him a double underhook gutbuster (gutbuster may have been optional.) Olimpico and Tarzan add sentons. Anyone going to cover? Ah, no, they want his mask too. Everyone's grabbing and pulling, but this one isn't going quite as easily. That's a sturdy mask. Rey notices Atlantis returning with a new mask and attempts to stop him, but Atlantis takes him down. Still, Olimpico and Tarzan are enough to help as well. Into the post goes Atlantis. Into the front row goes Atlantis. Flat back on the ramp goes Atlantis. I'm not sure where Mistico came from here, but he gets dropped too. Rudos not too interested in actually winning the fall for whatever reason today. Rey brings Mistico in, and gives him a face first crucifix powerbomb to the side - I'm sure that has a better name I just don't know. Olimpico adds a slingshot elbow drop. Tarzan, not done, sets up Mistico on the top rope. Superplex? Hanging superplex, actually. Now they'll cover. One two three. (3:57) Panther back in, because he remembers the rules. Unfortunately, Olimpico stops his run with a powerbomb, and that's pretty much it. (4:09

We go into the third straight fall of beatdown, as well as the second time of the ring girl having to avoid stepping on Mistico's dead body. This time, he's gotten posted and choked by some camera cord. Looks like Panther got his mask ripped finally. Rudos hold the ring. Is that Scorpio Sr.? I think that's who they said he is - as a member of the commission, he's not happy. Panther's mask is barely staying on as he runs, only because he's holding it up. He gets the whip -> lift - > chest slap down -> catapult into a clothesline and back into knees -> held high for Rey's rolling senton sequence. Celebrate. Mistico being worked over next - double drop toe hold the ropes for him, but whatever tandem spot they're setting up goes awry - we can barely see it, but it looks like Atlantis knocked Tarzan down with a dropkick to turn the tide. Panther tropes Rey, but at a low speed that it doesn't really knock Rey over and they're standing and fighting. Atlantis is over to help with Olimpico, eventfully posting him. Comeback brawl is completely on. Atlantis uses a windup clothesline on Atlantis. Panther is still having problems with his mask as he beats up Rey. Mistico gives Tarzan an Area Code to the midsection, then flies down on him with a double jump corkscrew armdrag! This one was completely scary, because the angle made it look like Mistico was going to completely miss a plancha - but he was actually going for an armdrag so it was okay. That must kill his hip, he lands right on it. Atlantis gives Olimpico and Rey tilt-a-whirl backbreakers on the floor. While Mistico works over Atlantis on the floor, Atlantis and Blue Panther rip up Olimpico's mask and then Rey's pants! Those are nice pants. Monkey flip on the floor for Atlantis, who's left in shorts. Mistico and Tarzan have made it back in and they're resetting the match. Tarzan gets an early advantage, but Mistico lands a superkick. Tarzan watches Mistico flip for no reason but can't take advantage. Spinning headscissors takes him out, and Mistico flattens him with a crazy slingshot corkscrew plancha! The others match up in the ring, Panther goes for the fujiwara on Rey, and Atlantis tries the bodyscissors cradle on Olimpico, but they're both countered. Bucanero Crossface on Panther! Sit down on Atlantis! That'll do it. (5:06) Tag champs just tries their best shot and got beat. Rey and Olimpico waste no time signaling they want the belts. Olimpico and Rey get to the mic and demand a title match for GdI. Their titles are coming to the Guerreros - and saying that sets off the fight again. Everyone fighting; Rey gets Atlantis' mask (his second), Olimpico gets Panther's mask and rips up Mistico's! Break.

Back to watch the rudos get in a few more shots and watch the replays. Mistico's gonna watch this last fall back and wonder how they lost. Wasn't his fault. Rey working Atlantis over still as we come back. Panther's tries to cover up as Mistico rolls him out. Looks like at least Atlantis got his mask back. And that's it.
