08/14 news

Not much going on today. Ovaciones says Arena Neza will be running Thursday and Sundays, and Rey’s getting an NWA LH Title shot down the line.

Super Luchas’ cover features the Pierroth Family; of note, there’s now a Pierroth II (I’ve heard he’s X-Fly, but I’ve never seen him so I may be totally off.) The best part of the Picture is the face Pierroth Jr. is making.

Near the bottom of that cover, there’s a headline about Psicosis II being stripped of the Mexico MW Title. KrisZ notes that it’s the comissions doing, and it’ll be sent to CMLL.

Your G1 Update!: Lizmark apparently flew in to work one show (and appear on another) and flew back, because he’s listed on cards this week. Sucks to be him, but at least he won, beating Takashi Iizuka. O’Campo says Lizmark and Texano work in Japan starting September 8th, which would be part of NJPW’s Golden Fight Series 2005 tour.

Lineups on Monday.

  1. The joke is on you as I’m sure AAA will refuse to give the belt back and we’ll have two Mexican National Middleweight champs.:)

  2. Lots of blown spots in Iizuka vs. Lizmark Jr. according to the reports. Not totally unexpected mind you, when you have a Japanese mat wrestler with sambo training against a luchadore for the first time, but one of the better reporters thought it might be jetlag on Lizmark’s part. He fell quite short with a tope suicida, so Iizuka had to hit a plancha to kind of play off it. I’m hoping from good things from Lizmark, some fresh faces are really needed. Dos Caras Jr. & Lizmark Jr. could be an interesting tag team – I mean heavyweight badass luchadores in New Japan, its so novel.

How does Texano work? Do you think he’ll fit in with Liger, Tiger Mask, Takemura, etc.?

  3. I’m probably alone in this but betting time will prove me right…

During all this time when everyone was surprised about Mexico sending over a G-1 winner and then confused about why were sending two guys, there was one thing that kept getting ignored… the fact Lizmark Jr. is pretty awful. This is a guy who not more than two years ago had largely quit the business and was going through a blackmail scandal. Not to mention he had his own “personal demons” to concur. He’s been a huge disapointment ever since he suffered a brutal injury in 1994 working for AAA. In the past two years he hasn’t had even one match that anyone could name off the top of their head and say “hey that was good!” An odd choice to win unless CMLL just wanted to ship him off so they wouldn’t have to deal with him. Oh, also the size must have been an issue b/c he’s one of the few luchadors that wouldn’t look small in NJPW.

As for Texano Jr., size is another reason he probably won. He’s almost as big as Lizmark Jr. and compared to the other finalist La Mascara, Texano Jr. is like Giant Gonzalez!:) But Texano Jr. is only 21 and still REALLY GREEN. We’re talking Mr. Aguila in the WWF green here. NJPW should be kicking themselves for not forcing CMLL to let Volador Jr. win b/c he would have been what Ricky Marvin is to NOAH.

In the end, I see this being more of a learning experience for the two guys going over. Instead of these guys going over as Mexico representatives and competing with all the big names on an even level, I’m predicting they are a big disapointment at first but after sticking around and learning some things, they’ll return to Mexico and be better off from the experience.

  4. Texano is so four years from being ready for this. The choice is utterly bizarre given the other options in there.

Is it crazy to assume Lizmark Jr got his job back with CMLL because NJPW wanted him?
