lucha times

Lucha Times is updated.

Saturday: Split feed and odd times; double check your local listings. I’m guessing the same 2 hour CMLL show should air here, but one can never be sure.

Sunday: They jumped quite a few weeks, past all the 30 minute show stuff. Not sure if they’ll bounce back or what. The next CMLL show in the line is good stuff though.

the AAA taping skipped a month last past thru – did that happen originally, or is that the same thing as the CMLL skip? I keep meaning to go back thru the WrestleLine and WrestlingObserver recaps to chart AAA better so I know these things advanced

Veneno, IWRG, and quick news

Though the DVDVR guys didn’t dig his IWRG action, Veneno is cool, at least to me. Probably because 90% of the times I’ve seen him in CMLL, he’s either acting universally goofy in a sketch, or he’s wrestling in a match with Pierroth (which makes you seem more dynamic in comparision.)

He’s getting a decent coverage in Ovaciones today – here’s his interview talking about the match and his faction with Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro and Scorpio – because he’s got a title match tonight in Arena Naucalpan.

IWRG 01/13/05 (THU) Arena Naucalpan (KrisZ)
1) Sibelius vs Rey Estruendo
2) Colt Master & Ultra Mega vs Caballero Azteca & Macho II
3) Avisman/Micke Segura/Star Boy vs Cerebro Negro/Dr. Cerebro/Paramedico
4) Matrix [c] vs Veneno for the IWRG Intercontinental Middleweight Championship
5) Black Dragon/Dos Caras/Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Fuerza Guerrera/Hijo del Canek/Negro Casas

Can someone smarter to me explain the deal with CMLL and IWRG? Is IWRG considered by CMLL a second tier promotion, and that’s why CMLL workers are free to work there? Their undercards are vastly different, but their main events wouldn’t look too out of place on non-Arena Mexico CMLL card.

Other News: AAA’s starting up again on 2/4, and Tinieblas Jr. may be joining them. He’s been seen around their offices.

CMLL confirmed that Perro Aguayo will return…at some point. I think someone’s taking the Coliseo season off, but what do I know.

01/13 news

CMLL 01/11/05 (TUE) Arena Coliseo results [KrisZ]
1) Flecha/Messala/Vaquero b Molotov/Karisma/Espiritu
2) StarMAN/Rayos Tapatios b Ramstein/Reyes Veloz/Jeque
3) Sagrado/Brazo de Oro/Alan Stone b Sangre Azteca/Mr. Mexico/Nitro
4) Universo 2000/Emilio Charles/Okumura b Negro Casas/Mr. Niebla Sagrado/Black Warrior
Didn’t see explaination on the change
5) Mephisto b Felino (c) to retain the CMLL Welterweight Championship
A mild upset, at least to me. Figured the title was going back here. Mephisto’s father, Kahoz, seconded him and intefered in the match. La Arena states Mephisto wrestled as Kahoz Jr. only in his debut match. I haven’t been following close enough to tell, but I wonder if this is the first acknowledgement of Mephisto’s former identity – Astro Rey Jr. just disappeared when Mep appeared, and they never offically drew the line to connect the two. In a world where “Black Tiger is really Silver King” is still a semi-secret, I could believe no one knew who Mephisto really was.
6) Dos Caras Jr. b Pierroth
DQ.

Ovaciones: Tentative month for Leyenda de Plata is July, and Leyenda de Azul is October. They’re planning another Gran Prix (trios tournament, I believe), but no month has been announced.
