CMLL Mini Line - 08/28/04 (#145)

(I'm doing this wildly out of order.)

This is the first extremely short CMLL episode to air, though we skipped the equally short previous week. This episode goes about twenty minutes, just long enough to encapsulate the only match.

Welcome To The Show Vignette: Pierroth, inexplicitly wearing an Astros shirt. Wait, is that a shout out? NAH.

Lots of big crowd shots to show off the big crowd. Announcers are also pumped.

Match 1: Vampiro vs Tarzan Boy vs Pierroth vs Negro Casas vs el Hijo De Perro Aguayo vs Shocker in a Cage Of Death match
Arena Mexico, 06/18/04

Winner: Perro Aguayo
Loser: Negro Casas
Match Time: 6:45
Approx Rating: 81. This was definitely more fun than the last one.

Match Notes: This is climax of a feud between the rudo trio and the tecnico trio. However, it's not a team match: last two men left in the ring, regardless of being allies or enemies, face off in a hair/hair match where one can win by pinfall or submission. We last had one of these on #99 between the Guapos and the Taliban, and I found the structure of the match limiting there.

Vampiro has an over mask he wears to the ring. Didn't get a good look at it. Tarzan strings out his entrance by walking slow. Captioning has Pierotth's backup as "La Nazy". Negro shows himself to be quite a moron by going into the cage before his allies even get introduced. Pierroth and Nazi were prepared for this idiocy - Pierroth charges him while Nazi pulls the door away from the referee and shuts it to prevent Casas from escaping. Perro goes on and takes his time anyway. Nazi and Pierroth put a lock around the door while Tarzan and Vampiro work over Casas. Perro eventually figured he's been locked out (as soon as he's been locked out), and tries to go over the top, but Tarzan meets him with punches. It's kinda sad, because you can tell Shocker has this elaborate entrance prepared, and if he goes on doing it, he looks bad for not helping out. He's a big fan of cowprint today. Perro still hasn't been able to get in as we come in, so we break for the list of rudos and tecnicos.

Still not able to get over or in the cage and so the match hasn't officially started, although the action has. Shocker tries to distract Tarzan and Pierroth so Perro has a better shot from going the opposite side, but Vampiro beats him down. Tarzan punches Shocker as he's going u, but Shocker keeps climbing up and gets a hold of Tarzan. Shocker manages to fight back, knock Tarzan down, and get on the inside wall of the cage, where Vampiro meets him for more punching. Negro's getting beat by whoever's free on the inside, and Perro is chasing Nazi (for the key?) on the outside. If Vampiro gets out of the cage here, is he out of the match? I don't know. Perro sneaks in by just climbing faster than Tarzan Boy is ready to react, and we got two minutes from the end of Shocker's entrance to the match actually starting.. The referees seem to want something done about the locker doors. Action in the ring is slow moving, with everyone by Vampiro and Shocker using wear down holds in the corner. Vampiro and Shocker don't do much before they're down too. Either we had a clip somewhere here, or everyone's down and out of breath awful quick. Vampiro gets up to make a run of offense and tells his partners that it's time to leave. They all get up to climbing, but the tecnicos all stop them. Shocker pulls Vampiro in the middle of the ring for a back suplex and a big boot before going to climb, but Vampiro follows him, trips him, and crotches him. Vampiro tries to climb out, but Negro Casas stops him with back elbows. Vampiro opts to stop climbing and missile dropkicks Perro and Negro. Chokeslam for Shocker! Now he's going again. Over the top, down the other side, and on the ramp. (2:03) Crowd shot here, but Vampiro is still celebrating as we come back - oh wait, another crowd shot. No clip, he's still leaving.

Instead of waiting for the clip, we could watch the match. Looks like Tarzan Boy accidentally nailed Pierroth, and Perro did not accidentally nail Tarzan. Perro corner whips Tarzan, Tarzan reverses, Tarzan charges, Perro tosses him up in the air, Tarzan spiderman sticks to the cage, and he's getting out of here. Perro realizes his mistake quick enough to put a stop to it - but Vampiro is climbing up the cage? Wasn't he leaving? Shocker climbs the cage to meet Vampiro, and you've got four guys in a corner of the cage. Casas realizes the situation and tries to help his allies, while Pierroth realizes the situation and tries to escape by going to the opposite corner. Shocker takes a look around and realizes Pierroth is missing, and jets after him to stop him from climbing out, but Pierroth kicks him away and climbs out and to the floor. (3:23) The rudo announcer sees what the director hasn't picked up on - while Pierroth was making his slow escape, the rudos got the better of the remaining tecnicos in the other corner, and Tarzan is making his own way down the cage. (3:30) All the rudos have escaped, and it's down to the three tecnicos to see who'll lose their hair. This is the happiest day in the life of the rudo announcer.

Tecnicos take stock of the situation. Shocker wants a good clean fight and shakes Negro's hand. Negro looks like he's about to cry. Aguayo takes stock of his hair, and decides he rather punch than shake. Beatdown on Shocker by Perro, and Negro is too stunned to immediately break it up. Perro goes nuts on Negro next. Both guys are down, but Perro is too busy doing the Aguayo vacant walk around the ring to take advantage. He decides to climb just as Shocker and Negro stir, and they both take him off the wall. Shocker pulls Aguayo away from the corner to work on him, and Casas debates helping Shocker or saving himself. He looks to the crowd for a decision, but Shocker posts him and encourages to help beat on Aguayo so they both can win. Shocker holds Perro, and Negro gives Perro a missile dropkick. Shocker tells Negro to hold up Perro so he can do a missile dropkick, and Negro does so. Shocker climbs to the top rope - and keeps climbing, out of the cage! Wow, Negro is having an really stupid day. Shocker waves bye as Negro realizes he's been screwed. (5:35) Negro stares at Shocker, completely oblivious to Perro getting up - and he climbs out too! Negro only turns around too late, and collapses to the mat. What a horrible day for Negro Casas. (5:50) Wait wait NO - the second to last person must win by submission or pinfall, and a bunch of referees are letting an unhappy Perro Aguayo Jr. know.

One obvious crowd clip later, and Aguayo is stomping mad in the ring. Negro is down from some previous assault. Perro off the ropes, Casas pops to his feet fresh, pan to the crowd to miss the move. La Majistral - no, Perro low blows him. Oh no, they've got a Ref Cam going. Aguayo with a slam, and he's gong up. Top rope, top rope stomp! one two three. (6:45) Casas still is the big loser. Fireworks for Aguayo. Aguayo celebrates his hair.

After a break, Aguayo watches on as Casas gets his hair cut. Casas isn't pretty happy about this, and blames referee. I think this is to get a good ref camera shot, which we don't see. Casas leaves without all his hair being cut, actually. Replay of Casas cutting part of his own hair.

That's it. Show clocks in at 23:14.
