CMLL Mini Line - 08/07/04 (#141)
Welcome To The Show Vignette: Pierroth.
Vignette: Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero and Terrible seem to be waiting for someone - oh, a whole bunch of someones: Sangre Azteca, Koreano, Nitro, Dr. X and Arkangel, who try to impress with their free t-shirts. (Ark's wearing FMW, Dr. X is sporting an old logo WWF shirt, Nitro has a El Numero Uno t-shirt, and even Terrible is wearing a Rock shirt.) That mask win really didn't much for Arkangel if he's still hanging around random groups of goons. Anyway, I believe the point here is these guys are going to be the Guerreros representatives in the undercard, trying to take out the Guapo wannabes. It's an extension of what they were talking about with Sangre and Koreano last week. There's actually a undercard cibernetico blow off for all of this, but I don't believe we actually see it. Sometimes, that's not the point, though. Rey leads the whole group in the taunt.
Match 1: Ultimo Guerrero (c), Rey Bucanero, El Terrible vs
Atlantis (c), Rayo de Jalisco, Blue Panther
Arena Mexico, 05/21/04
Winner: tecnicos
Match Time: 8:48
Approx Rating: 84 - there was nothing really wrong with this match, there
just wasn't enough right for long enough to rate higher
Other Match Notes: Ultimo high fives fans, then taunts fans. Such a mix. All the rudos come out to GdI's music. Atlantis almost does, till they remember to change the music. Rayo is literally kissing babies on the way to the ring. What a babyface.
I never actually here the whistle to start this, but I may be spacing out. After a long discussion, we get Rey and Atlantis to start. Blue on blue violence. Typical opening exchange, featuring Rey pulling off the less effective looking leg DDT of all time. Atlantis' minicomeback is clipped out, and next is Panther vs Ultimo. Panther pulls out reverse crucifix rollup out of no build for a three count. How weird. (2:18) Even Ultimo has problems going hold for hold with Panther, I guess. Rey and Atlantis battle on the ramp for no apparent reason, but probably related to the clipped stuff. I wonder if they clipped out the Rayo/Terrible exchange or if there just was none. Usual replay.
I do catch the whistle for fall two. Atlantis and Ultimo compare applauses, then get to business, Ultimo catching Atlantis going for his jumping bit, but Atlantis taking advantage of usual futile heel double teaming, this time by the tag team champs. Terrible finally makes it in the ring to face Blue Panther. Panther does not win brawling, but he does win outsmarting. Rayo actually comes in, to face Rey. Rey tries to stop the Rayo wackiness before it starts, but you can never stop wackiness. Tag team champions get beat up by Rayo as well. Terrible elects to take a break rather than get in the ring with Rayo. Rudos regroup, and Panther gets beat down while GdI runs off he the other two. Panther takes a double armbar takedown from the champs and is clotheslined out. Atlantis next, and he gets a double clip to set up a double arm wringer and a big Terrible legdrop. Rayo takes the slingshot/rolling senton bit. Terrible adds a top rope splash, and that'll do it. (4:06) Tied back up.
Relatively quick to the final fall, with the tecnicos turning it around while we were looking at the ring girl. Rudos gets beat up around the ring, and eventually the tecnicos realize they might as well have someone in the ring to avoid being counted out. Rey and Ultimo end up isolating Blue Panther, but it goes badly for them. Atlantis helps his partner out, and they sorta-monkey flip the champs out of the ring at the same time. STEREO TOPES! Atlantis kinda caught himself in the ropes, but he survived. Terrible and Rayo left. Terrible side steps a dropkick, but gets caught in a crucifix - one two no. Rayo slaps Terrible, whips him, puts his head down too soon, and gets rolled up in a small package one two no. Terrible kicks Rayo, charges, and misses, going over the top. Rayo to the top himself - big fat plancha to the floor. The other four back in, and the rudos don't last long - Atlántida on Ultimo, Fujiwara armbar on Blue Panther. That'll do it. (2:24)
Vignette: Black Tiger introduces us to his friend from Japan, Okumura, although they never actually spell his name. They talk in Japanese and it's subtitled in Spanish, so I'm lost in multiple languages. He's smart, he wants a title. Black Tiger goes trilingual, speaking in English to tell Okumura to take off his shirt. Japanese dudes are hot and smart, Black Tiger assures us.
Stellar Moments - ASTRO BOY with a spin spin spin into a Fujiwara armbar. That's totally the technical name for it. Whatever mask he's got on, Averno's still got the death defying tope con giro. Mephisto, inside the ring, ends up flipping forward and out of the ring on a swinging dropkick to his knees. Ultimo Dragon is killed by a Tarzan Boy springboard dropkick. And Wagner made sure Canek got his plaque at the end of the match.
Match 2: Vampiro (c), Tarzan Boy, Pierroth vs Shocker (c), Lizmark, Negro Casas
Arena Mexico, 05/21/04
Winner: Rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 7:37
Approx Rating: 78. Missing the intensity. Felt odd for Shocker pinning
Tarzan to be so perfunctory.
Other Match Notes: The Icons of Cheap Rudo Heat, teamed up together. Everyone wanders around in the ring after introductions, and Vampiro just casually walks over to Shocker and kicks him in the gut. Lovely. Camera of course cuts to looking at the ring girls.
Beatdown under way as we start watching. Vampiro is seeking out Shocker, as the other two are beating up Lizmark and Negro is apparently dumped to the floor. Vampiro notices Negro Coming in, and gives him a F5. That'll do it for him. (:48) Tarzan and Pierroth get a double spinebuster on Shocker and double crab to end this. (:59) Yay, quick falls. Which means we've got a long beatdown coming back, but I can easily skip beatdowns. Was there an after show party people were in a hurry to get to this week? Maybe they all wanted to get to the libary before it closed.
Beatdown goes on. Shocker's the current victim, but he makes a comeback within 10 seconds of the start of the fall. Vampiro tries to slow it down, but the rest of the tecnicos are in so it's on. What the heck. Some moves, but lots of viscous standing around. Everyone else doing little so we watching Shocker/Vampiro - it actually slows down back to everyone going to their corners. Shocker gets the better of Vampiro and his rooster hair for a while, then tags in Negro so he ca do the same. Pierroth comes in to take over for his side, but Vampiro doesn't want to leave so everyone just stands around for a while. Now Vampiro's on the crowd for chanting negatively. Now we're going to clip ahead when they actually start fighting. Vampiro's coming back with kicks on Negro now. Corner whip, sharp boot to the head. Kicks to the chest. Do I want to know 138 on Vampiro's tights mean? Negro fights back and works over Vampiro's knee. Vampiro finally rolls out, grabbing his knee. Lizmark and Tarzan now. Tarzan out smarts Lizmark, but Lizmark is just too much Shawn Michaels for him. I'm trying to match the rambling aimlessness pace of this match. Pierroth and Negro, and Negro quick ends it his usual way (4:24). Lizmark's new power spot in a press slam into a spinebuster. Tarzan is the victim. (4:36)
Fall three starts, except not really because Lizmark's pounding someone on the ramp, and we have no rudos in the ring. They don't actually give us a decent shot of what's going on, and then they clip to a Tarzan and Lizmark exchange in the ring. Tarzan pulls of a half hour suplex on Lizmark to impress, but it only gets two. Tarzan has some trouble exciting a pump handle slam (or Lizmark fights it), and that gets three, though I wasn't exactly sure the first time (:46). Shocker big boots Tarzan and locks him in the hammerlock headscissors cradle for a three count the other way (:59) Next fall wins it. Pierroth in for the rudos, Shocker off the ropes, Nazi tries a trip, and Shocker goes after her. Nazi takes off thru the crowd and Shocker chases her to curtain. Back in the ring, Negro's alone but still almost manages a Majistral till Pierroth shoves him off. Negro drops down as Pierroth charges, and out he goes. Negro teases an apron dive and gets kicked down by Vampiro. Vampiro in turn gets dropkicked by Shocker. Shocker's pumped - there's no one to get him. THREE AMIGOS! We all love Eddie. Corner whip, reverse, Vampiro misses a corner clothesline, Shocker hooks on a waistlock, Vampiro backs him in the corner and tries to get free with back elbows, Negro charges at both of them with a jumping knee, they both duck and Negro goes flying out. That distraction allows Vampiro to break free, and he sneaks an inside cradle on Shocker - feet on the rope, one two three. (2:13) Everyone saw Vampiro's feet on the ropes except for the people who mattered, and that's good enough. Rudos, including the rudo referee, immediately bolt for the back - they've got to get to the library!
Next Week: Blue Panther, Zumbido, Perro Aguayo Jr., Pierroth, Tarzan Boy, Shocker, Averno, Vampiro, Atlantis, Dr. Wagner, and many more
Back at the match, someone is yelling at the announcers about the replay. Shocker? Sounds like it - he wants to them to show the proof. They show the replays of Shocker's pin, Tarzan's pin. Ah, now we get many replays of the cheating. And that's it.
