CMLL Mini Line - 07/31/04 (#140)

Welcome To The Show Vignette: El Hijo del Perro Aguayo Jr.

Vignette: Rey and Ultimo! Stairway of GdI! Rey's particularly well dressed. Los Guerrero are special - they're the truth. Shocker's gonna learn. They talk about the Guapos Mexican National Title shot in here - do they want to hijack it? Rey breaks up the forearm taunt to ask about dietary supplements and a proper diet. I don't think I'm kidding, huh.

Match 1: GdI (Ultimo Guerrero (c), Tarzan Boy, Rey Bucanero) vs El Hijo del Perro Aguayo (c), Ultimo Dragon, Negro Casas
Arena Mexico, 05/14/04

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos
Match Time: 7:50
Approx Rating: 83

Other Match Notes: I like it when they announce Rey as the Pirate of Pandemonium. I'm shocked to see Perro be allowed in the ring without a thrashing. Ultimo is not using his Velocity music, which is so disappointing. Ring announcer loses his mind and introduces Dragon as "Ultimo Guerrero! [sound of shock for pulling a Garcia] Ultimo Dragon!" Dragon gives a little head nod of "At least you got it right the second time." Ring announcer introduces him again real quick before he moves on to Negro. Negro proudly shows off his CMLL Welterweight Title, which he won on 04/26/04. (CMLL says May, so perhaps Negro traveled back in time for this match.) No prematch beatdown! What are the odds. You know, Dragon still owes GdI for beating him down when he stopped by before going to the WWE (way back in #49.)

So why not start out with Ultimo vs Ultimo. Fans chant Ultimo, confusing UG. Circle. Are they going to lockup? Yep, Dragon trying for a headlock and instead putting himself into a waistlock. UG drops him down, facelock is avoided and UD has an armbar. Back to their feet, UD twists, UG twists out, and twits again. Dragon tries to break the lock, but Guerrero cranks. Standard UD forward roll, handstand, armdrag out reversal. Stare. CROWD SHOT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO clip

Tarzan and Perro in. Tarzan killing Perro with a clothesline doesn't make me feel better. Perro is thrown into the tecnico corner, where no one bothers to tag themselves in as they're getting out of the way. Corner whip, Tarzan splashes in, no one's home, Perro goes to town on Tarzan, but his friends actually help out. Perro is beaten down enough for Tarzan to keep a hold of him, and give Rey and Ultimo enough time to clear out Negro and Dragon. Turning back to Perro, Rey and Guerrero give him a double running shoulderblock, and Tarzan sets Perro on the top rope. Rey and UG go to the middle rope, grab Perro Rock Bottom style, and launch him across the ring. That's new. Perro's ended up going the length of the ring on that one, right in position for Tarzan to stomp him more. Rey goes out of the ring to pull Ultimo Dragon back in. Double whip, double wave by, double back elbow, double kick trip. Rey and Ultimo load Dragon on their shoulders, and Tarzan knocks him off with a springboard dropkick. Rey and Ultimo do a double jacknife cover to look cool and get the pin. (2:23) I think Tarzan was disappointed he didn't get the pose in. I momentarily forget Dragon's not the captain, but they don't. Negro in, body slam form Tarzan, Angle Slam-like from Rey, suplex from Guerrero, double top rope headbutts to finish him. (2:54) These guys are good. Don't try this at home. Crazy fans in the front row do the GdI Huddle Dance. Crazy fan in the crazy fan section is wearing a a Claudia in Big Brother T-Shirt, which surely wasn't planted. I'm glad we had time to show that and not Dragon and Guerrero wrestling. Replays, which are enough thing I'd trade. Maybe it's just because I'm taping it, but I'd prefer to see as much as I can one time rather than some of it twice. Break.

Seems like bad things for the tecnicos were going on during the break, as the ring girl is presented form going all the way down the ramp because Perro Aguayo Jr's half dead body is there. Negro's brought in the hard way. Rey mocks the Negro chants as we obviously and leisurely set up the comeback spot - Negro's whipped ramp side, Perro grabs a hold of him to stop the momentum, Negro charges back and is able to beat up everyone. Big boot to Rey, dropkick to Ultimo, clothesline to Tarzan - huh, that missed? Tarzan gets a German and Negro blocks for an inordinate amount of time, though Negro does drag Tarzan to the corner to block it. Dragon stands outside observer the situation while Perro gets around to cleaning house on his own, and then they get to the spot they've obviously been trying to set up - Tarzan has Negro, but Perro has Tarzan, but Rey and UG have Perro, but everyone has too many tapes to want to pull off this goofy German spot. The director oddly picks the overhead cam for this shot - maybe the normal cam would've exposed the move too much. Dragon, still in this match, comes off the top with a plancha for UG and Rey, they catch him, he armdrags out anyway. Rey gets the handspring back elbow, UG gets the tope. The other two take care of business in the ring. Running double stomp for Rey, La Majistral for Tarzan. (1:29) Replays. Me zoning off.

Fall three is slow to start for no clear reason, but it's Ultimo/Ultimo again when it does. Dragon slips out of a hammerlock with a jumping snap mare, rolls under a clothesline and headscissors UG out of the ring. Dragon ducks a clothesline from Rey, leapfrogs him on the next pass, and monkey flips him out on the third. Tarzan feels the feet o' fury. 3 kick combo. Perro's turn. Perro will pose because the rudos aren't ready to fight. PERRO PERRO PERRO. Rey to start. You know, I don't think these two like each other. Rey off the ropes, over, under, missing a clothesline, waved by and out of the ring. UG tries his luck with a chest slap. Right back at ya. Ultimo tries again, and gets it back again. Perro is pumped. Off the ropes, big UG clothesline and Perro is less pumped and more drunk looking. Whip, clothesline misses, Perro with a quick turn, escapes from a UG move and comes with a headscissors. Perro tries to go to the top, slips (some whistles from the crowd) and pulls off a headscissors on the stage. That couldn't have felt good for UG. Crowd shot - clip? Cute girl? At least one is true. Tarzan and Negro deck each other with boots. Strike battle is just as equal, but Negro uses the ropes to get a boost on a forearm. Tarzan gets picked up, but uses it to fight back. He makes the mistake of taking into the apron, where he can only get a DDT. Rey tries to save his partner from the inevitable device by Punching Negro and taking him down, but he gets kicked away and over the top. There's the Thesz Press dive - Rey ducks, Tarzan does not. Rey walks off, right into the path of Perro Aguayo's Thesz Press dive. Ah, at least he tried. Ultimo/Ultimo. Dragon waved by on the first place, flips over on a hiptoss, heel kick to the midsection, elaborate pose (he still thinks he's on Velocity) to call for it, Asai DDT connects one two THREE. (3:27) Ultimo is THRILLED to get a pinfall in North America. Meanwhile, Tarzan and Perro are fighting in the crowd - well, not if Tarzan has anything to say about it. Rey eventually helps uneven the sides so the rudos can get home free.

Stellar Moments - Tony Bow with a slingshot somersault senton to the floor. Tigre Metalico tries a dive to the floor, but gets gets a rebound powerbomb from Enigmo Maximo. Mini Pierroth betas Mini Olimpico. Looks like he's still on the same page with Mini Violencia here. Sangre Azteca fakes like he's going to moonsault, kills Sagrado with a suicida plancha instead. Zumbido's dive from last week, and Niebla's dive from last week.

Vignette: In seperate black screen interviews, Canek and Dr. Wagner debate who the king in Arena Mexico is. Canek reminds us he's really old when he brings up beating Wagner's dad. Wagner says it's his moment. You know, I wouldn't want my doctor saying he's the King of Death like Wagner does here.

Match 2: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Canek
Arena Mexico, 05/14/04

  1. Wagner sit down powerbomb Canek (1:03)
  2. Canek sidewalk slam (2:15)
  3. Canek DQW Wagner - glass plaque to the head (4:35)

Winner: Canek
Match Time: 7:53
Approx Rating: 80 - but a memorable angle to end it

Other Match Notes: Wagner is wearing a (new? - not the usual ones) Mexican outfit. Before Canek's entrance, they bring out the commissioner and a glass plaque for Canek. Canek brings a Dr. Wagner mask to the stage with him when he enters - and also a lighter. BURN. Wagner is not appreciative. This works a lot better than when Black Tiger tried the same thing with Black Warrior's mask. Wagner gets angry, and rushes Canek at the bottom of the stairs. Wagner brings Canek towards the ring with a headlock, then chops him the rest of the way. That mask is reallyr burning. Somehow should put that out.

Match starts without a whistle but they're fighting in the ring and that's good enough for me. Wagner whips Canek as he's trying to take off his cape and gives him a backdrop. Canek's sat up, because it's time for the mask ripping. Snap mare, off the ropes, dropkick to the head. Canek still hasn't gotten off his cape, but Wagner posing on the ropes helps him out a bit. So does the referee. Wagner sets Canek up, and drops him with a sit down powerbomb. That's one. (1:03) Replays.

Wagner grabs Canek in a sleeper hold even before the second fall starts, taking him down to the mat. Actually, I think it's more of a cobra clutch, but we don't get a good frontal look at it before Wagner lets go. Crowd shot here. I bet the comeback happens in the next 15 seconds. Wagner corner whip, charge, Canek give shim a swinging kick to comeback. Clothesline. Slam. Elbow drop. Mask ripping. Rabbit punches to the head. Wagner manages to get back up, only to take a turnbuckle smash and a headlock punch. Wagner to the floor, Canek following him and clotheslining him into the crowd. Into the post. Canek comes in, and Wagner's still on the floor, but I think Canek helps slow the count so he can beat Wagner in the pin. Wagner to the apron, and Canek suplexes him in. Sidewalk slam, one two three. (2:15) Replays.

Wagner is regrouping on the outside as we start the third fall. Canek pulls him in, though Wagner was coming in anyway. Crowd shot - this might have not been a clip, there's not a noticeable gap. Canek slams Wagner, and goes to the second rope. Canek says this is it  - somersault senton, but Wagner's roll out of the way (and I think Canek over shot him anyway.) Wagner is up, hurting but happy with the turn of events. Slam - on, Canek small package one two NO. Wagner reversal rollup with bridge, pinning himself - referee pounds the mat once with his right hand, then both hands, then both hands (which to you and me is three), and goes to do it again but Wagner and Canek kickout. Announcers are as confused as I am and talk about the referee. It is Baby Richard. Canek gets a figure four on Wagner, and he appears to be in a little trouble. Wagner pounds the mat in pain, but eventually pulls himself to the ropes. Canek is extra reluctant to release the hold. Canek puts on a short of kneeling abdominal stretch before going after Wagner's mask again. Let's look at the crowd again. No clip, or Canek has been in the same position for a while both up, Wagner with a slam, and he's going up. Fans distract him, and he's slow - top rope splash comes up empty. Canek covers, one two no. Butterfly suplex by Canek one two no. Fans haven't been in to the near falls as much since the small package. Canek with a slam, and he's going on up. Fans not sure about this move. Canek gets to the top and - stopped, stunned, because it looks like Dr. Wagner Sr. is walking down the ramp! Cane, doctor's outfit and the mask. Canek recovers enough to land the top rope plancha, with both guys rolling thru the move and Canek ending up top, before getting up to confront Dr. Wagner Sr. While they have a discussion, Jr. rolls out to steal the glass plaque from the lucha commissioner. Uh oh, he's bringing it in. Canek is oblivious. Fans are not. Wagner lines up behind Canek, Canek turns back to the ring, Wagner swings and breaks the plaque over Canek's head! Well that's a DQ (4:35) but maybe the Wagner's won that. Dr. Wagner Sr. walks back off and the real doctor is into the check on Canek. They bring out the stretch to put Canek on. Wagner's pretty happy with himself, and gets the microphone to talk - it's his house. Baby Richard has been busy trying to get the glass out of his hand - Wagner's bleeding from the leg from a shard. Break

Next Week: Ultimo Dragon, Vampiro, Ultimo Guerrero, Pierroth, Tarzan Boy, Rey Bucanero, Negro Casas, Mascara Magica, Shocker, Hijo de Lizmark, Atlantis, Terrible, and many more stars

Replays of the glass breaking. Wagner is surrounded by security as he leaves, although it looks like he still wants to have words with the crowd. Wagner leaves by going up on the stage to pose instead of going out the side way. One more replay of the glass, and we're out.

56 minute show.
