CMLL Mini Line - 07/10/04 (#137)

Welcome To The Show Vignette: Shocker.

Match 1: Misterioso (c), Sangre Azteca, Koreano vs Texano Jr. (c), Brazo De Oro Jr., Tigre Metalico
Arena Coliseo, 04/20/04

  1. tecnico

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 3:03
Approx Rating: 55. More story than match.

Vignette: The familiar Guapos 2004 drill. Of note, the established rudo duo are linked together here.

As usual, the rudos are firmly in control as we come in. Koreano get a double boot on the Brazo, then Misterioso goes solo on the other two tecnicos, bringing in Texano from the apron and seemingly annoying his partners by the distance they're keeping. Koreano stops Misterioso from a corner charge move so he and Sangre can do their own, so it's obviously a l breaking down. Misterioso continues to wrestle solo, but his whip is inadvertently turned into a tandem move from the duo - hanging slingshot stomp to the floor. Misterioso starts with the Brazo, but Koreano cuts him off. They almost come to blows, but Koreano pushes Misterioso out of the way to get in his dropkick on Oro. Misterioso figures it out, and waits till the Koreano and Sangre set up a double whip on Texano to sneak in and get his own move. Rudos start shoving each other, yet recover in time to stop a tecnico attack. Unfortunately for them, the chaos leads to Misterioso trying a clothesline that hits Koreano, and a dropkick that connects with Sangre. It's 3 on 1 vs Misterioso, and I don't believe he's going to be saved. He tries to beg off to the tecnicos and warns them about a sneak attack form the other two rudos. Misterioso stands and poses as the tecnicos have their way with Sangre and Koreano, but Texano screws it up for his team by going after Misterioso. Misterioso, sitting on the top rope, pushed Texano away but takes a super armdrag form Brazo de Oro. Tigre Metalico adds a top rope side elbow drop, and the tecnicos all cover. Sangre comes in, looks at the pin, and thinks better of breaking it up. That'll do it.

Vignette: The 49th Anniversary Celebration of Arena Mexico is coming! Your headline match is Mascara Magica vs Terrible in a hair/hair match. It's 04/30.

Vignette: In the gym, Mr. Niebla is looking for, and finding Zumbido. They're good buddies now. Trio match is talked about. Three different camera shots for this angle. This is to hype up HIS hair/hair match. And Zumbido's shirt.

Match 2: Super Crazy, Black Tiger, Dr. Wagner Jr. (c) vs Zumbido, Mr. Niebla (c), el Hijo de Lizmark
Arena Mexico, 04/23/04

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: rudos
Match Time: 8:00
Approx Rating: 79.

Other Match Notes: I thought they said Emilio and not Wagner in the vignette, but I'm not going to complain. I'm restraining myself from valet comments here. They'll all good, don'tcha worry. Beatdown starts as Zumbido enters.

Dr. Wagner's lots of running dropkick to the head, check. Crazy takes Zumbido fifteen rows into the crowd to mock the rowdy fans. Black Tiger uses a Bronco Buster on Lizmark but we miss most of it. They're focusing on Crazy/Zumbido since that's the match, but it looks like there might be better action in the ring than the generic brawling outside the ring. Crazy does do a good job with reverse guillotine legdrop, but Wagner and Tiger trump him with a stuff powerbomb on Niebla to end it quick. (1:21) Doesn't stop the attacks on Zumbido. Tiger takes forever setting up a superplex with Lizmark, and covers even though they kinda clearly said Niebla was captain. Crazy uses his powerbomb on Zumbido and they start counting that one to until Crazy elects to pose instead of cover. Wagner takes time out of his schedule to hung the rudo bellringer in the first row. How nice of him. Wagner's wearing his yellow outfit, by the way. I think I fast forwarded through the replays.

That outfit defies words. Not Dr. Wagner's. Dr. Wagner is currently using words to defy Dr. Alfonso Morales. Pierroth and Wagner must've formed a club. Either Black Tiger is mad at him too, or it's about Black Tiger. Announcers discuss who's fault it is among them. In the ring, the beatdown continues, as Lizmark sells a chop by having a mini-seizure. Crazy is tapping into the Randy Orton wacky resthold territory to hurt Crazy on the ramp. This doesn't stop Zumbido from getting up and walking five seconds later, though wisely Wagner trips him back down. The chants of the crowd reviver him, though it's improbably Lizmark who matter of fact starts the comeback by ducking a double clothesline and landing one of his own. Niebla makes the standard Atlantis/Rayo comeback, Lizmark makes the standard Hijo de Lizmark comeback. Lizmark pins Tiger after a swinging slam (2:19) and then everyone kinda stands around to watching Zumbido and Crazy fight in the ring. Crazy gets slid out and quickly dropped by a Zumbido springboard plancha. Niebla remembers we're probably behind schedule on a finish here, and puts Wagner in the Nelbina off screen, sitting on top when we come back to end this fall. (2:47) Zoom on "GAEL" written on Crazy's wristtape, which is nice because I was wondering what it said but not nice because it probably doesn't mean good things happened to Gael. Replays.

Fresh start for the third fall, Niebla and Wagner into to do the Niebla shtick. Dance, check. Handspring elbow (missed), check. Wagner shakes it up by shoulderblocking Niebla out and posing, then dropkicking Niebla aback off again. Pescado? Wagner would prefer not to dive at this time. Niebla gets back up on the apron and taunts Wagner to try that again. Dance twice, check. We're just missing the slap, but in a matter of seconds, it's not all we're missing. Wagner comes off the ropes into a Niebla monkey flip, takes the hamstring bump into the ropes, and the bottom rope snaps. It was just a matter of him getting unusual height on the monkey flip and landing completely on the bottom rope. Wagner seems hurt, having come down on upper back and neck, and rolls out. Zumbido seems most thrown off anyone in the ring, but everyone takes a moment to gather themselves. Replay shows Wagner boinked his head on the mat, partly because he ran out of the ring. They radio for help at one point, but he gets back up.

They go to Crazy/Zumbido to pick up, since that's probably the end here, and go at it with one less rope, though Zumbido seems extra cautious on a springboard move. Crazy reverses a suplex into a "small package" (in English) for a two count. Zumbido gets in HIS big slap, but the other two rudos (including Wagner) run him over. Rudos end up triple teaming Zumbido without much interference form the tecnicos, though Wanger does eventually knock them down. They set up Zumbido in a corner for the crotching around the ring post, but Wagner and Tiger look at each other when they realize the remnants of the bottom rope and turnbuckle are in their way, confused if they could pull this off. They don't have to, because Niebla and Lizmark quickly tope them out of the picture and into the crowd. Crazy and Zumbido pick it up in the ring, Zumbido looking smoother in a springboard but still eating a dropkick on it. Crazy quickly finishes with a brainbuster for the three. (3:52) I don't think we've seen him use that before.

After a break, we actually go back to the end of this match for replays. Usually only get Stellar Moments this segment. Lizmark checks to see if Zumbido is alive; Crazy didn't lift protect him a lot on that move. And we get another break before

Stellar Moments: Tony Boy looks unimpressive but pulls out a 450. Ultimo Guerrero reverses Blue Panther's armbar takedown and puts on his own. Rayo de Tapito I with a nice tope con giro on Koreano. Volador manages a nice slingshot spinning headscissors on Averno from the inside to the outside. Casas's usual apron dive on poor Averno.

Vignette: Here's your Guapo vignette. I know you were worried. Texano Jr. has an idea to chorography a dance move to impress their teachers, and pulls noted strip dancer Fabian El Gitano in on the plan. They get some music, and Fabian can dance and no one else can. From the doorway (outside of the ring where this is happening), Koreano and Sangre watch, semi-amused and semi-annoyed. It looks like everyone's getting it - well, not getting it, but getting close, even Monito, when Koreano and Sangre look outside to see their new secret buddies: Ultimo Guerrero and Terrible. This is not going to end well. Terrible immediately makes fun of the dancing as the four storm the ring. Terrible and Ultimo go after Fabian while Koreano and Sangre keep the others from getting involved, double press by Terrible and Ultimo, double toss out of the ring, completely obvious edit point, oh look Fabian fell on the hard cement floor. He's in pain as Ultimo taunts the rest of them, and tells them to hook up with the Guerreros if they want to listen to wrestle instead of dance. In another obvious edit (for a second camera angle more than to avoid the bump), Terrible kicks down Monito. Those two take off just as Shocker and Mascara Magica arrive - there's some pushing and shoving at the doorway, but the Guapos are more concerned about Fabian being down and not moving than the flee-ers. Everyone still around checks on Fabian except for the Guapo rudos, and Shocker is filled in on what he missed. Shocker tells Mascara Magica that he's got to put an end to Terrible's rebellion now, in the hair/hair match. Turning to Koreano/Sangre, it quickly degenerates into a "You're cut!" "No, I quit!" situation, which the rudos taking off their shirts and tossing them to the floor. They're run out of the gym before everyone looks back at Fabian and shakes their head. I guess he might be out too; this felt like an injury angle to remove him from consideration.

Match 3: Ultimo Guerrero, Terrible (c), Rey Bucanero vs Shocker (c), Mascara Magica, El Hijo De Perro Aguayo
Arena Mexico, 04/23/04

  1. tecnicos
  2. tecnicos

Winner: tecnicos
Match Time: 7:54
Approx Rating: 75, because it's three hours later and I can't remember much great about this match.

Other Match Notes: The rudos all come out to GdI music, whatever that means. I think the ring announcer might have announced them as GdI, if that means something. Guapos come onto a dance song, and it breaks down before they get half way to the ring. Terrible takes a hard takedown on the ramp. Rey rushes to the curtain to destroy Perro before even he gets to steps (which he instead rolls down - ow.) I guess they still hate each other at this point.

This brawl lets me point Rey has Smurf hair. Smurfs ruined blue hair for everyone. You don't think Marge Simpson (which perhaps isn't any better), when you see blue hair, you think Smurf. While I'm digressing, Magica and Terrible have somehow settled this down to a normal exchange in the ring, one Terrible has control early and Magica has control late. The twist is Magica is now using Kidman's powerbomb reversal. We switch to Shocker and Ultimo Guerrero. They have this match down. They do do their spot, and Shocker wins before faking a dive. Aguayo and Rey to finish the run. Rey may still hate Perro, but Perro is still too much for him, Rey's every advantage being turned against him, ending with him being kicked into the second rope of fans. Perro opts not to dive in the crowd after him. Back to Terrible and Magica. Look at the announces. People must be able to see this on a big screen, because they've started waving behind them. Look again at Rey going into the crowd. We come back to see Terrible oddly hanging upside down on the top rope, and being slipped out of the ring by Magica. Back in the ring, Shocker gets the reinera on Ultimo for a quick win (3:26), and Perro Aguayo can't quite get over the top to hit a proper Thesz Press on Rey. He ends up adding the running stomp to completely it and first fall goes to tecnicos. (3:39) Replays.

Magica would like to start fall 2 against Terrible, but Terrible is reluctant. It's a lure to the beatdown, as all three rudos rush the tecnico and take advantage. Shocker takes the double hiptoss rebound slam and a double elbow drop. Perro in next, though he stalls it for a moment. Double boot, double armbar lift and slam, that was odd. Terrible keeps getting to boot people out. Magica in, and he catches the boot, but can't do anything with it before duo help arrives. Magica predictably moves out of the way off a corner charge, and it all turns around. Highlight it a triple spear/takedown spot. Tecnicos don't have any particular coordination or order to their revenge, ending up leaving Magica alone against Terrible one more time. Magica is mugged by Rey and Ultimo when he tries to dive, but their double teaming goes away. Shocker holds Rey down to the mat so Monito can hit the Rolling Senton on him! That's WRONG. Monito gets a little too much confidence and tries El Santo it into a tope on Ultimo Guerrero, but Ultimo easily catches him. Ultimo is nice enough to put him down before trying to kill him with a boot. Monito leads Ultimo into a Perro apron dive Thesz Press (which might've caught Ultimo by genuine surprise and nearly KOed a camera guy.) Shocker got in a tope con giro on Rey, and we ended up with Magica and Terrible once again. Magica hit two dropkicks, but Terrible rallied back into chops. Off the ropes, into a Magica armdrag, and Magica turned it first into the Rings, then rolled Terrible on to his shoulders to win this one in two falls. (4:15) Replays.

Next Week: Terrible vs Magica, hair/hair. Zumbido vs Crazy, hair/hair. And many more stars.

That's it. The extra break seems to replace one during the match, which is okay with me.
