CMLL Mini Line - 07/03/04 (#136)

Welcome To The Show Vignette: Universo 2000 promises this is going to be a hot show. I hope that's not a rudo trick.

Match 1: Alan Stone (c), Lestat, Leono vs Brazo de Plata Jr. (c), Karisma, Espiritu
Arena Coliseo, 04/13/04

  1. Tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos
Match Time: 2:36
Approx Rating: 63

Notes: We don't really have an established rudo team with this Guapos 2004 matchup, though Espiritu was a rudo last time we saw him. I think we all know the standard operating procedure by now - we join just in time to catch for all to break down into a few high spots and the finish; I assume we skip the normal tension with neither Koreano or Sangre Azteca here.

Plat's team controls as we come in. Brazo de Plata and Espiritu (I think) hit simultaneous second rope splashes on one of the opposition, but choose to roll him out and pose instead of covering. That seems unwise. Alan is in next, and he's quickly subdued with a triple boot. Guy in the crowd tries to use camera time to get a kiss, and it doesn't really work out. Lestat (I'm thinking) gets a sit down spinebuster from Plata, and his team - does a triple strut! Well, they know how to imitate. They did it in different directions, so the coordination needs some work. Plata's team is definitely attacking like the defacto rudos, even making the mistake on a whip that allows Leono to springboard plancha everyone. He's caught, but he armdrag free and that starts the (comeback) in stages). Dive sequence: (crazy!) Alan slingshot tope con giro. Oh, that's it. Plata tries to go up to add his own dive, but the standing tecnicos grab him from behind - double powerbomb off the second rope! Lestat goes to the top rope - moonsault with the added bonus of cracking Plata in the head with his leg. Plata's not just going to be feeling that in the morning, he's feeling that now. (2:27) Leono's wacky finish roll up the body reverse neckbreaker thingy. I don't know if he was going for that and hit it or was trying for something else and missed; it's not a very clean looking move, though apparently effective. (2:36)

Vignette: Crazy, Emilio and Tiger eat at the sit down restaurant. Emilio's getting coffee. Crazy's too hyper about Zumbido's actions to have coffee. Now let's all be mystified by Emilio's TNT (new logo) hat. Anyway, Zumbido must be destroyed for being a traitor to a rudo cause. Perhaps, last week, instead of being annoying to Zumbido, Crazy should've staged an intervention.

Match 2: Black Tiger (c), Super Crazy, Emilio Charles Jr. vs Atlantis (c), Mr. Niebla, Zumbido
Arena Mexico, 04/16/04

  1. Tecnicos
  2. Tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-0)
Match Time: 7:47
Approx Rating: 82

Other Match Notes: No entrances - right from the end of the vignette to here. Beatdown to start, splitting in Atlantis/Tiger, Crazy/Zumbido, Emilio/Niebla pairs. They settle on beating up Zumbido while keeping his help away. Emilio's got one his left shoulder all taped up. Niebla takes a big Emilio Spinebuster and dropkick to the back of the head. Zumbido gets slammed before a Tiger second rope moonsault and Crazy second rope moonsault. Is that all? No, Crazy going all the way up - somersault senton, hmm. Emilio is having fun beating up Atlantis now. Crazy takes care of Niebla while Tiger keeps Zumbido form doing anything. Atlantis and Niebla are run off, and Zumbido takes a running back elbow. Crazy sets up Zumbido in the corner. Double corner whip, corner clothesline by Crazy, and Tiger and Crazy both slide out to crotch him on the post. (Inner thigh. Close enough.) Atlantis tries to take advantage of the numbers by attacking Emilio while he's alone, but Emilio spots him and stops him with a kick of some sort. Perhaps the drop variety. Not great camera work there. Crazy and Tiger have stayed outside to fight the tecnicos there, while we get a replay of the not-crotching. Crazy is still beating up Zumbido when we come back. He throws Zumbido back in the ring for his partners to hold down for another shot. Crazy heads out, gets the small steps, add brings them in. The referee do not like that idea, and like it even less when Emilio whips Zumbido into a step shot from crazy. That'll do it, though the rudos stretch it out for a little longer by refusing to give the referees any room to raise Zumbido's arm. Atlantis slips back in the ring to take the victory for his side (3:52) Rudos pause, consider this for a second, and don't seem all that disturbed. The steps are repossessed, but Crazy keeps stomping until he's warned about winning the next fall. Oh no Zumbido's not getting up like nothing happened, is he? That's a great time for a crowd shot and, so nice move Director. Replays of stairs to the head. It's funny how stairs on the outside are legal, but once they get inside, it's a whole new ballgame.

Rudos still dominating as we start fall two. This is either going to be very quick, or not going to be going the distance. Let's look at the announcers. Nah, let's look at the ring. The strategy of keeping Atlantis and Niebla away from helping Zumbido is still true. Referees helpfully insist by only allowing one tecnico at a time, though they're kinda fuzzy about how many rudos there should be. Zumbido turns it around himself by ducking a double clothesline to dropkick Crazy, but Emilio and Black Tiger stop him from getting to his old partner. We miss 80% of Zumbido turning a double whip into a dive onto Crazy because they pick the worst possible moment to check out the announce crew. Comeback is on, so let's look at the announcers again. Hey, a monkey flip is pretty easy because the other guy does a lot of the work. Atlantis gets the best of Emilio in the ring for a bit, then they head out. Emilio tries to see how many fans he can almost fall into. Crazy and Zumbido battle up the ramp. Well, Zumbido's doing the battling, Crazy is doing the falling and pointing. Somehow, they settle this all back in the ring, with Niebla and Tiger going at it. Niebla's wackiness lets him get the better of that, finishing it with a slingshot tope on Tiger over the corner post. Zumbido and Crazy are somehow next (clip? doesn't seem like it), with Crazy sidestepping a dropkick. Crazy going up and his missile dropkick doesn't miss. One two NO. Crazy powerbomb works! Slight delayed to cover and very casual one at that - one two Zumbido kicks Crazy in the head to get free. Crazy recovers and kicks Zumbido back down. Crowd: ZUM BEED O. Crazy picks up Zumbido and says this is it. It sure is it - Zumbido reverses the powerbomb into a big swinging DDT. Fisherman's Buster one two three. Emilio runs right into the Atlántida to make it nice and legal. Look, I was right. This is the equivalent of playing Which One Of These Things Aren't The Same on Sesame Street.

Zumbido gets the microphone and kisses up to the fan. That taken care of, he wants a one on one match with Crazy. And not just any match - hair vs hair. Black Tiger wanders over to the announce position to give his own viewpoint on all things Black Tiger. We hear Crazy's response under the replays of Zumbido winning; by the sound of the crowd cheering, you can tell Crazy has actually accepted.

Stellar Moments - Neutron, Sombra de Plata, Tigre Blanco, Sangre Azteca, Astro BOY (winning a lighting match over Super Commando), Felino all have highlights.

Vignette: Speaking of hair/hair matches, Mascara Magica and Terrible sign the contract for theirs. They exchange trash talk after signing. Terrible's won one of these, but Magica points out he's not a Capo (well okay) and Terrible doesn't have Perro Aguayo Jr to help (point!) Magica says Terrible may think he's hot, but he's knows nothing. Terrible says Mascara Magica is the true mini Shocker. It goes down that path, with a lot of Terrible self satisfied laughing.

Match 3: Universo 2000 (c), Terrible, Rey Bucanero vs LA Park (c), Shocker, Mascara Magica
Arena Mexico, 04/16/04

  1. tecnico
  2. rudo
  3. tecnico

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 9:32
Approx Rating: 85. That was a heck of a lame finish, and I don't think you can even blame Universo being out of it to explain why they did it

Other Match Notes: Did you want a brawl to get us started? You've got it. Graphics spell the name of one of the top stars in the company as "Shoker". Rey looks disheveled after no more than the pre-match punk out. We get a replay of what happened just before we missed: the valets ran for their lives when the fight broke out a bit earlier than they were expecting. Director thoughtfully uses slow motion for the running sequence.

Rey throws a nice slingshot tope con giro which doesn't even get a zoom in on. Rey also gets to work in a splash version of the GdI sit. Terrible and Rey work in a back suplex/reverse neckbreaker also on Park, though Rey doesn't know that's where Terrible is going till the last second. Park might've gotten a bit shaken up on that, but Rey convinces him to stay in so Universo can finish with a top rope splash one two three. Outside, Terrible is having his way Mascara Magica. Monito watches all and does not approve. Replays.

I'm shocked at no break between falls. Beatdown continues, with Terrible working over Magica in the ring. Shocker tries to pull him out, but he's stopped by the rudos. Magica is held up so Terrible can slap his chest at will. The next double whip goes predictable away. Dropkick for Universo and Rey, dropkick for Terrible! The other four end up around ringside, with Park pulling members of the crowd out of his path so he can get to Rey, hiding in the seats. I thought one guy was gonna accidentally get rammed in the brawl. Shocker posts Universo and comes in to help on Terrible. Magica's got it handled though, with a big clothesline. They leave it one one one, with Magica shortly after adding a Diamond Cutter. Repeated punches to the head, but the rudos break it up. Shocker and Park back in to take care of the rudos, but they miss dropkicks. Sadly for the rudos, clothesline on the tecnicos just server to pump them up. Or make them scream insanely in the case of Park. Shocker monkey flips Rey to the floor, and Park backdrops Universo to the floor in a wild ride for him. Park tope on Rey! Shocker waves for Monito, and he plancha Universo! Universo goes after the midget, and Shocker uses the opening to double jump plancha him. Back in the ring, Magica avoids a boot form Terrible, avoids a clothesline, nails his own dropkick. Terrible knocked to the floor, Magica tope con giro! Through the ropes! The other four head in the ring, and the tecnicos have the advantage, and it's just a matter of moments before Universo gets pinned by a Park bodyscissors roll and Shocker rolls though his own roll to apply one of those armbar/sharpshooter things. Tied up. Shocker takes his time letting of off the hold so Monito can get a few shots in. Replays.

Magica and Terrible decide to start this one off. Well, Terrible isn't happy with the idea and tags out to Rey, so Shocker comes in for the other side. Rey misses a clothesline, Shocker does not miss a wheel kick. He's pumped, and he's also clotheslined. Rey works him over with chest slaps and mocking Shocker chants. Corner whip, Shocker kips up and out into a wristlock, Rey tries to free himself with back elbows and ends up turning around into a semi-overhead belly to belly suplex. Shocker goes up - to pose? To get kicked by Rey? Guess so. Rey trips Shocker off and chest slaps him down before heading up himself, and getting dropkicked to the floor himself. Terrible takes advantage of Shocker checking Rey out on the floor, and gives him a spinebuster as he turns around. MAGICA SPEAR! Punches to the head. Crowd not as excited about it as I am or Magica is, though they end up getting into it. Terrible with a kick, off the ropes, into a hiptoss to the floor. Shocker backdrops his partner into a plancha on a Rey and Terrible, but they catch it. Shocker goes up top himself, and his plancha knocks everyone down. In the ring, Universo is freaked out by Park's wacky dance style and strutting ability. The Big Wiggle is too much for Universo, and a mighty chest slap takes Park down. Universo slaps Park in the face repeatedly for the dancing, and turns to the crowd to warn them not do the same. But Park is back up! Hard slap to the chest! Headlock, shot off, over, quick turn clothesline and STRUT. Park's clothesline misses, but his headscissors do not. Armdrag, armdrag, wheel kick! Universo rolling to the apron very very very slowly. Did he get knocked silly by that kick? (Checking back quick, it wasn't that as much as Universo's head bouncing off the bottom rope as he fell down.) Park looks at Universo, missing Rey come back in with a dropkick. Rey's pumped. Monito cheers Shocker on as he comes in to deal with him. Crowd: SHOCK ER. Chest slap battle with Shocker powering up, bouncing off the ropes, and knocking Rey down with a boot. Shocker signals to the crowd, and gets pulled down by his head. Rey beats Shocker in the back with kicks before signaling himself. Clothesline is ducked, and Shocker takes Rey down by the hair extension. Hair yank, kicks to the side. Terrible comes in and grabs a leg, while Rey sweeps out the other one. Shocker rolled to his feet, whipped into the ropes, kicked by Rey and dropped in a sorta-Gory Bomb. Terrible watches this happen and is unaware that Magica is back up, dropkick Terrible down and going to town on him with punches. Rey applies a Dragon Sleeper on Shocker to beat him (that's new), and then keeps Park form interfering, sending him back to the floor with Universo. Magica stops beating on Terrible long enough to notice Rey, duck a clothesline and land one of his own. Terrible got a chance to get up though - spinebuster! Boston Crab! Rey adds stomps of his own, but it may be unnecessary. Baby Richard tries to pull Rey off - and Rey takes him down? Now I'm totally confused. We didn't get a signal saying Magica gave up, though it looked like he did. And the tecnico referee isn't really signaling that it's a DQ either. Wait, now they're raising Shocker's hand. So Magica's team gets the win in the book, but they were quite obviously losing this match until Rey snatched a loss from sure victory. Terrible settles his conflicted emotions by kicking Magica some. Magica heads for a mic, but we head for a break.

Next Week: Perro Aguayo Jr., Mascara Magica, Zumbido, Rey, Ultimo Guerrero, Super Crazy, Shocker, Shocker, Dr. Wagner, Mr. Niebla, Black Tiger, and much much more

Back in the ring, people are booing? Boring Terrible? Let' go to replays. Watch Rey get himself DQed even after the referee has actually indicated Magica gave up, which I didn't realize the first time. Back live, everyone walks off. That's always a worthwhile use of time. Did Park walk off and leaving Magica in the ring? Maybe they were just taking a circular route to avoid another confrontation with Magica on the ramp.

That's it.
