09/29 News

You know, not that it has anything to do with anything, but someone needs to book an interpromtional junior tag team tournament/league, just so I can get my GdI vs Dragon/Noble match. It’s all I ask.

CMLL.com: I like the new colors. Black backgrounds are so out. And going with masks for button is always a wise move. Rey looks, uh, metrosexual. It’s a bit busy at times, but it’s a nicer visual.

Did I miss the link for the English side? If they’re not updating it – and they weren’t – I guess there’s no point in having it.

Not say they didn’t get around to updating all the info, but the Arena Coliseo results still list a 05/16 show.

The one thing I’d wish they’d add is each week’s poster, because they’re always neat to look at. What I do like is they’ve set up the results section in a format where it doesn’t get shredded by Google’s translation. So…

The Big News: Negro beat Perro to win the 71st Anniversary Trophy. I know you were wondering the fate of the an award which didn’t seem exist previously.

Other results

– Dr. X/Sangre Azteca/Crazy Max b Neutron/Texano Jr/Tigre Blanco
– Mistico/Volador Jr./Misterioso II b Olimpico/Averno/Mephisto
– Atlantis/Blue Panther/Niebla b Okumura/Apolo/Pierroth
– Canek/Shocker/Warrior DQW Universo/Terrible/Wagner

Not that it’s always an indicator, but they’re even having Mistico captain his team. Big push will continue this week.

In his match, Pierroth remembered he hates the Capos and turned on Dantes. I’m not sure if I’m getting confused, but the various writeups seem to indicate multiple sons of Pierroth involved in, which is surely an ominous sign. (Of course, they’re el Hijo de Pierorth and Pierroth Jr. Jr.) You’d think this would be heading for a hair/hair, but it’s Apolo.

Universo, who seems like he’s becoming a regular Yano (DQ here for mask pulling, DQ in the big rematch I previewed a few weeks ago), also has an interesting pick for a new hair color.

They also blurred out Wagner’s face in a picture, which is a nice touch.

This week’s promoted as an extention of the Gran Alterntavia concept:

– Mr. Power/Ray Tapatio I & II vs Super Commando/Jeque/Vaquero
– Mascarita Sagrada/Tzuki/Shockercito vs Pierrothio/Espectrito/Fire
– Zumbido/Volador Jr./Alan Stone vs Super Crazy/Olimpico/Mephisto
– Universo 2000/Cien Caras/Apolo Dantes vs Pierroth/Vampiro/Okumura
– Santo/Atlantis/Negro Casas/Mistico vs Ultimo/Tarzan/Rey/Averno

CMLL.com acknowledged Caras is intending to retire at the close of the year, and this is his first action in quite a while; storyline wise, it’s in re

The hype for the main event notes Ultimo and Rey weren’t happy with Averno when he was Satanico trainee wearing a half Ultimo/half Rey mask, but I’d figure since he’s not any of that now, they’ll be cool.

They’re working an angle where both Perro Aguayo Jr. and Universo 2000 are both in trouble for attacking referees.

Ex-Havana Brother Bobby Quance is following thru on joining the Navy, but only apparently after an upcoming NJPW tour. Sounds like they’re getting a good guy.

Jose Fernandez has posted bios of Enrique Llanes (who I believe was mentioned by Chavo Classic on SmackDown! this spring, confusing Cole and Tazz – someone pass this link on to them!) and early lucha star Jack O’Brien.

I posted #147 earlier this week but neglected to link it over here. I do not expect to get a recap done before Saturday this week.

Recap #146

#146 (another half hour edition) is going to be remembered for Hector Garza’s debut (and maybe also the first in a long stretch of Mistico Stellar Moments highlights), and I think it came off pretty well. Crowd didn’t react as strongly as I thought it would, but the match was good and it got Garza and the Perro/Garza/Casas stuff over.

Got 3/4 thru 147 before deciding to call it a night. Looking to get (at least) it done tomorrow. Feels real nice to have crossed off five shows this week.

Recap 144 and This Weekend’s Lucha

#144 was another in a the line of passable entries, with the difference being it lasted less than a half hour. Tarzan vs Perro was Perro beating up Tarzan, Perro getting DQed, Perro beating up Tarzan, Tarzan taking control, Perro turning it around, and Pierroth helping Tarzan cheat to win.

Saturday: Not too promising on paper, because LdP singles matches have been disappionting in recent years. Perro and Atlantis had a good match earlier this year, so maybe there’s some hope there. Don’t have a lot of hope for a good match in the trio, but probably a neat spot or two.

Sunday: They picked the wrong match to show.

09/23 news

Not much other news coming out of the Anniversary show than has already been covered. The Mascara Sagrada/LA Park team seems to be a set one, as Sagrada backed up Park in the LH Title match. Makes sense if they can get themselves a TV push, since they’re both indy guys. (I thought Mephisto being Ultimo Guerrero’s backup made sense, only because they now share hatred of Satanico.)

Full results for the 71th Annivesary card
– Mascarita Sagrada, Tsuki, Shockercito b Mini Pierroth, Espectrito, Fire
– Mistico, Volador Jr., Misterioso II b Olimpico, Averno, Mephisto
– Blue Panther, Atlantis, Mascara Sagrada b Tarzan Boy, Pierroth, Vampiro (DQ)
* Dr. Wagner Jr. and Silver King (not Black Tiger) paid respect to their father. Wagner was cemented as tecnico for the night (at least) after this.
– Ultimo Guerrero retained the CMLL LH Title by beating LA Park
– Perro Aguayo Jr./Terrible/Hector Garza b El Hijo Del Santo, Negro Casas and Shocker
Universo 2000 lost his mask (Rayo beat Universo, Wagner beat Canek, Universo DQed himself)

Mascara Ano 2000 hurt his shoulder, and will be out two months. He should be back in time for the year end show.
