Cage of Death results

Results, via KrisZ. They actually made an eljuciofinal.com for this, but I don’t think I saw the link till I saw the results.

– Negro Casas loses his hair in Cage of Death 2. Perro was the second to last, finishing Casas with a double stomp. The rudos got out of the ring first, followed by a rudo-ish Shocker.
– Dr. Wagner Jr. beats Canek for the UWA Title with a chain handed to him by corner man Apolo Dantes
– Satanico goes to five minute draws vs Emilio and Ringo. And got a plaque
– Atlantis and Blue Panther over Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero, and they wasted little time making a return challenge.
Mistico’s team won.
– and so did Dr. X’s

Four of six on picks, and the Satanico match really shouldn’t count because how was I supposed to know they had wacky 5 minute time limits. I was thisclose to picking Negro. Darn Vampiro’s wacky hair.

News:

– So there’s a hair match in Arena Coliseo, and it’s Tony Rivera (who you may know) vs Veneno, so of course Tony wins this because he’s won a ton of undercard hair matches in Arena Coliseo and elsewhere and Veneno is Veneno.

Except, Veneno wins! Weird. I don’t know that it means anything but it’s interesting. CMLL is saying this ends a 30 hair match streak by Tony. Probably a decent streak the other way for Veneno.

Also on the show was Ultimo retaining the LH Title over Blue Panther, so he’s 1 for 1 this week.

– Why waste time till the next big show? This week’s Arena Mexico card

* Atlantis & Blue Planther vs Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero (c) for the CMLL Titles
* Perro Jr., Negro Casas, Mr. Niebla vs Vampiro, Tarzan Boy, Okumura
* Canek, Rayo Jr., Warrior vs Wagner, Tiger, Universo 2000
* Mistico, Alan Stone, Virus vs Sangre Azteca, Holligan, Loco Max
* Mr. Power & Star Man vs Ramstein & Super Comando

I’d like the champions to retain a lot more if Ultimo hadn’t already won a title match this week. Then again, I’m thinking in terms of building a program, and you can’t assume anything goes past today in CMLL. So I’ll take the champions.

If anything’s going to come of Perro being the one to cost Negro his hair, it’ll probably start here.

That’s the CMLL Trios champions wrestling together up there, but they’re pushing it more as “Wagner gets his strongest allies to help against Canek” rather than a pending title program. What a trio that’d be.

Wednesday’s main event at Arena Coliseo is Casas vs Okumura. Sunday has a special main of Mil Mascaras, Canek and Rayo de Jalisco teaming up against Universo 2000, Mascara 2000 and Terrible. They’re paying Canek and Mascaras to come in for a Sunday show? And Terrible’s in this match? And teaming with a guy he beat for his hair a few months ago? Huh.

Guadalajara has a Perro Jr. vs Universo 2K no DQ match, in case you’re wondering whatever happened to that feud. I was thinking Apolo’s interference in the Canek/Wagner match probably leads to something in Guadlajara down the road, but there’s nothing this week.

AAA News

Cibernetico lost his mask! It was a pretty dumb mask, all things considered.

  1. Star Boy is actually a Star Man.:P You have some sort of fascination with Star Boy of IWRG fame? You’ve now mistaken Starman and Astro Boy for him so I’m thinking something is up…

I’m going to take the champions too.
    1) Atlantis/Panther have no reason to win.
    2) Bucanero/Guerrero need a win to prove they are the top team after that stupid loss to Parka/Shocker.
    3) Tecnicos won the setup match easily. Rudos can’t be buried like that.

    But I’m always wrong.:(

The Sunday shows actually draw more than the Tuesday show you know. Who wants to take their family to go see lucha on a Tuesday evening? Sunday is the biggest day for lucha and always draws huge crowds. You could even say it’s the most important show of the week and it will be soon once the TV is taken away. They used to run all the important Arena Mexico shows on Sunday. Business was great back then… Arena Coliseo on Tuesday, Arena Mexico on Friday, then *BOTH* on Sunday.

You need to stop analyzing who is teaming with who. I used to hate it but now you just have to ignore it. It really only began when the fed started doing more rudos vs rudos matches. When it was tecs vs rudos, no problems for anyone. When rudos began being tweeners(sup Shocker?), then you had problems since it’s all fine when Damian and MA2K are feuding on Friday, but come Sunday and you need two of your big rudos to team up, you have no choice but to put them together. Luckily lucha fans really don’t give a shit like us internet dorks.:)

Mistico’s mask ROCKS! I hope he makes TV.

  2. Star BOY would be a cooler name and things happen when I switch back and forth between translations.

It’s not as much that I’m surprised they’re using Mascaras on Sunday rather than Tuesday, it’s that they’d shell out the cash for him to fill up the smaller Arena Coliseo instead of the larger Arena Mexico. I gotta figure that to a lot of (older) fans (and perhaps those who book these things), teaming Rayo, Canek and Mascaras together is a Dream Trio, so why do it in the smaller arena before doing in the bigger one?

The Sunday cards (and really the Tuesday stuff too) are typically run of the mill trios stuff, so I figure they’re either drawing good enough in Coliseo or they don’t really care, so I’m surprised they’d go thru the extra effort (effort meaning $$$$) to get Mascaras and Canek in for no particular reason – unless there’s a reason I can’t think of. Not that I mind not seeing it.

Ano and Terrible teaming with Ano probably wouldn’t have struck me as much if I hadn’t just seen the hair/hair match a few days ago. I guess it make sense with Terrible’s heel turn (although his turn seems near-random on TV when you don’t know your Spanish), it probably makes sense now.

What’s with you (and KrisZ!) still calling him Damian, anyway? They haven’t used the name on TV since his first Guapos apperance and I can’t recall the last time I saw it in virtual text besides KrisZ. You’d think sidestepping the possible confusion would be great.

  3. re: Mascaras

    a) He probably charges less for a Coliseo appearence than he would to work Arena Mexico.
    b) Arena Mexico isn’t going to experience a spike in attendance at all from Mil appearing or they’d be booking him more. Last time he was there was for a kids show where of course the place was packed b/c kids got in for free.

The Sunday Coliseo shows draw either way but the difference between a normal 4,000 crowd and a sellout 5,500 is crowd is a big name up top. Arena Mexico sellouts are reserved for huge huge huge stip matches(Cien vs Pierroth). I heard this past week’s show didn’t even sellout if that tells you anything.

If they could get Dos Caras to leave AAA, a team with Mil/Canek/Dos would EASILY sellout Arena Mexico b/c it would be the first time they teamed in ages, let alone ever at Arena Mexico. Like I said, sellouts are for the huge huge huge stip matches and one-time only deals.

    re: Damian El Terrible

I don’t know Kris’ reasoning but I keep an archive of results and need to pick one name to stick with(usually the name the wrestler starts with) b/c then it just leads to confusion if I start to lose my mind and eventually can’t figure out why I had a Damian El Terrible and now there’s only a Terrible. It’s like with the undercard worker Alacran. There used to be two of them so he went by the name Alacran De Durango. When the other left, he became just plain Alacran but I can’t bring myself to change it back b/c it would get confusing. Can’t call Antifaz that either, gotta call him Antifaz Del Norte b/c CMLL had an Antifaz for years before he came along.

Anyways, I always thought El Terrible was his nickname. Like Mosco De La Merced was always “El Mosco” but his full ring name was El Mosco De La Merced.
