CMLL Line - 11/29/03 (#104)

Vignette: Shocker (with a lovely lady) welcomes us to the show and encourages us to check out the dancer. No, not the lady, he corrects the camera man - check out Shocker! Oh-kay.

Different open than usual, as they have graphics and hype each match/highlights on the show.

Vignette: Neutron explains why he'll be one of the two survivors of the CMLL SL Cibernetico. He's going to the final.

Vignette: Sangre Azteca's warrior blood will take him to the final!

In usual CMLL fashion, neither of the people we get vignette for actually make the part of the match that isn't clipped. What we get instead is

1 CMLL Super Light Title Qualifying Cibernetico
Rocky Romero, Ricky Marvin vs Volador Jr., Puma Kid
09/05/03, Arena Mexico
72
12 man cibernetico 1:34
3:38
Ricky Marvin Wagner Driver Puma Kid
Volador Jr. cradle Ricky Marvin
way to clipped to make anything out of it, but was fine for the time it got

Notes: Last two survivors (regardless of what team) have a match for the title next week, which I've been mistakenly calling the "Super Light Heavyweight" Title - the correct name is above. This started as a twelve man match, presumably with a battle royal to set sides. The original lineup was Super Comadno, Loco Max, Sangre Azteca, Ricky Marvin, Tiger Blanco, Havana Brothers I, II, III, Neutron, Sombra de Plata, Voaldor Jr. and Virus. These four remain as we enter.

We start off with Puma and Rocky forced to be again each other. Stare - Puma (wearing PINOY tights) feigns a handshake and goes for a big double leg. Rocky is rolled over to his stomach, then Puma stands above him, puts on a waistlock, and rolls to his side to end up in sunset flip finish position one two reversed one two reverse one two revere one two no. Puma with a sunset flip (overshoots, but Rocky goes along with it to conceal - a better camera angle might have hid it), Rocky rolls through and kicks Puma hard in the head. Rocky takes a couple steps before covering one two no. Corner whip, Rocky charges, Puma slide out through the ropes to escape the charge, but Rocky turns and clotheslines him there. Suplex ion - no, Puma behind in waistlock, switch, switch by Pinoy, switch by Rocky, Puma tries to elbow out, Rocky ducks one and gives Puma a turning Rock Bottom. Rocky tags out to Marvin, who waits for Puma to get up - SUPERKICK. Puma is able to start to get to his feet, but that doesn't really help him - Wagner Driver one two THREE. (1:34) Tag to Rocky, who seems okay with this turn of events. Rocky charges Volador coming in and works him over with kicks to the leg. Looks like Volador's left leg is hurting him already. Puma with strikes, then holding Volador for Ricky - springboard missile dropkick gets Rocky by mistake! Volador charges Ricky, Ricky tilt-a-whirls him up in to the Atlantida (maybe?), but Volador slips behind for an inside cradle one two NO. Volador 'rana, blocked into a big powerbomb one two NO. Ricky turns Volador on to his back - half crab on the bad leg! Rocky's back up and he's not happy - big slap to Marvin's face. They're having an argument about if that dropkick missed or not, and Marvin slaps back. They yell some more, but Marvin notices Volador back up and dropkicks out the back knee. Ricky angry and kicking Volador's side. He wants to end this now - scissors hold on the bad leg. Volador won't give - and he can roll it over enough to go the ropes. Marvin with a stomp, off the ropes - no, Rocky cranks him with a kick to the back. Marvin turns back to yell at him, and takes a climb up enziguri from Volador. Volador with a step over armbar into a cradle - it doesn't go quite right, so Volador adjusts to another cover, one two three. (3:38) Rocky claps - he didn't want Marvin in there, and now he's throwing Marvin out. Wasting no time, - jumping armscissors into the cross armbreaker! The referees pull Rocky off - he's celebrating like mad, he wants the belt. He's a little slow on the pickup, but the ring announcer makes it clear to everyone - Rocky doesn't get the title this week, he gets it next week if he beats Volador Jr. then. Even though we knew that stip coming into this match (though it doesn't appear that Rocky was clear on it), this helps Volador immensely - he stood little chance this week with the bad left knee and he would've given up if Rocky's post match attack was part of the match. Volador recovers enough to attack Rocky, but we leave that to go to break.

Vignette: Violencia meets Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero in the square. Violencia swears. Pierroth's name is mentioned a lot. I don't get a lot out of this.

2 Violencia (c), Mascara Ano 2K, Apolo Dantes vs Sagrado, Mr. Niebla, Super Porky (c)
09/05/03, Arena Mexico

1 trios 2:51
2:59
MY2K Top Rope Splash Niebla
Apolo Top Rope Splash Sagrado
nothing offensively bad, nothing interestingly good. They continue the odd build to Pierroth/Violencia.
2 3:54 Violencia Dragon Sleeper Porky
T 6:53 Rudos (2-1)

Notes: JIP, right after the entrance. I assume they announced Niebla as CMLL Heavyweight Champion, but we don't get to hear it. Despite seeing him with Ultimo and Rey, Violencia is with the Capos here.

Rudos beatdown to start, which allows me to catch up on things. The highlight is that Mascara pulls Sagrado off the second rope for a Crucifix Drop - in that he almost dropped him on his head. Less than total care on that one, but I guess God would be looking out for Sagrado. Triple dropkick on Sagrado is almost really badly mistimed. Niebla's in to get beatdown. I think the Porky segment was first. Double pres slam for Niebla, and Violencia will finish him off with the top rope somersault senton. The other two cover, but let go at two for whatever reason. He's out of the ring. Porky is back in. Porky looks fatter to me, hard to believe. Everyone senton. Missile dropkick for Porky and he's out again. Sagrado in to take another turn. He doesn't get much before Niebla comes back in. I guess this is turning around -  Mascara with a flapjack for Niebla. Violencia forward fireman's carry slam, Mascara top rope splash, one two three (2:51) Sagrado is held down for an Apolo top rope splash (2:59) Replays.

Beatdown continues into fall two. Porky gets cornered whipped into Sagrado. Violencia gives Niebla the top rope somersault senton, but Mascara and Violencia pick him up instead of pinning for more beatdown. This is an average brawl - not great, but not something you're focusing on after pausing for four weeks.  Lots of focus on Niebla - he's beaten outside by the Capos and brought back in back in first, instead of doings some stuff with Sagrado or Niebla. In fact, they way Apolo and Mascara are holding him for Violencia, you'd think the pending issue here was Niebla/Violencia, not Pierroth/Violencia. Violencia poses on the apron and gets hit when Niebla ducks a double clothesline. Another double team move goes bad, and Niebla makes the non-hot tag to Sagrado. Ah, we're doing sequences of Capos double teaming one wrong. Sagrado lets them hit each other and gets in tilt-a-whirl backbreakers. Porky's turn - butt bump for Violencia, belly bump for the Capos. Violencia in, but he makes the mistake of a drop down and pays for it. Capos, Niebla and Sagrado in - tecnicos amazingly do get whipped into each other, but they must be saving each other soon enough - yep, tecnicos get the better of the double teaming, with the Capos getting sent out and nailed with stereo topes. Sagrado's looked a slight bit tentative for whatever reason., That leaves Porky and Violencia. Whip, sunset flip, Violencia realizes his mistake and moves out of the way in time, fat Dragon Sleeper - and he wins? I guess we have a give. (3:54) I'm not complaining about two falls. I guess this is showing that Violencia is a dangerous man, and is at least better than the one of the guys who lost a stakes match to Pierroth.

Violencia walks up the ramp backwards, which is always a bad move. He does turn around in time to see the Boricuas coming, but since the Capos have already left, it doesn't help much. Let's see - we've got Pierroth, Mini Pierroth, Nitro, Mini Violencia, and La Nazi. But Pierroth's doing most of the work with punches. He gets the midgets and Nitro to hold Violencia on the ropes for belt shots. The tecnicos from the last match seem to have disappeared at this point. Choking Violencia on the ropes. Low blow kick. Belt shots to the head.  Oh no, Pierroth's coming in the ring, that probably means he wants to talk. That's why we couldn't have a third fall. I don't know that this is better. He'll win, blah blah blah oh look fast forward. What a great time to put the phone number for tickets up. Replays of the match. Doctor checking on Violencia.

Spectacular Moments:
Lo Impressionante
: Sombre De Plata takes a double press slam into a flapjack from a tag team of guys I'm not familiar with (but I checked, and they're Polvora and Vaquero). Oooh, the spinning hiptoss into a face first powerbomb and a tug of war double armbar, nice.
El Triunfo: Sombre De Plata's partner (Zetta) does a nice somersault plancha, while Plata use s a cross body and a wacky octopus like hold for the win.
El Rudo: Valentin Mayo's top rope elbow drop, which makes this every three months. Looks like he lost a hair/hair match. A baby in the audience is not impressed.
La Combincation. Ramstein and Sangre Azteca team up for a side back breaker/top rope legdrop combo on Neutron.
Lo Dolorso: Black Warrior beheads Sagrado with his slingshot guillotine legdrop on the stage

Vignette: In Shocker's office. He's got calls to make. He's telling someone it's important that they meet to talk about his hair/hair match on the 19th. Magica asks who it is, but it's Shocker's secret. They leave the office and head to the arena. Who's the mystery man? We don't get to see. He knows Shocker, that we know. Into the ring at the gym, where Magica and Shocker work out their grappling. (Shocker's winning, as usual.) They're broken up - by Shocker's dad, "Pato" Soria (google translates Pato to Duck). I'm guessing Dad - at any rate, he's helping Shocker fine tune things before his match with Tarzan Boy. Shocker has to remind calm and tranquil, and not let his emotions get the best of him.

3 Dr. Wagner Jr., Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero vs El Hijo Perro Aguayo, Shocker, Negro Casas
09/05/03, Arena Mexico

1 trios 2:51
3:12
Wagner dropkick to the head Aguayo
Rudos DQed (excessive beatdown on Aguayo)
Hotter and much more active than the previous trio, but still a quick and formula build to two weeks. No sign of Tarzan Boy?
2 3:43
3:48
Aguayo top rope double stomp Rey
Casas Special Ultimo
T 7:00 tecnicos (2-0)

Notes: Rey has TWO valets doing the forearm taunt. He's moving up in the world. Junior has dad's music. Tag champs decide to beat up on Perro before Shocker's had his entrance - he skips things and helps out! Wagner just watches at safe distance till Shocker throws a boot in his direction. Wagner retaliates by throwing Shocker in the ring. Why is Casas getting last entrance here? We clip out from the moment his name is called to about 10 seconds later for no apparent reason, so I entertain myself by imagining he tripped on the steps or something (though Rey was beating him on the ramp already, so I dunno what happened.)

Rudo beatdown to start. Shocker, still with his outer pants, is stuck in the ring. Rey and Perro mix it up while Ultimo and Wagner take care of Shocker - clothesline, holding his head up for Wagner to dropkick. If Wagner will pay attention - there's the four bounce dropkick to the face. Casas in for his turn. Ultimo with a whip, spinebuster lift, Wagner open hand slaps him down, Ultimo slingshots him up, Wagner chops him down onto Ultimo's knees, and Rey finishes with the top rope rolling senton. Ultimo taunts the camera man into coming in?  Oh, I guess Perro is standing there too. Perro's turn for getting beat up. Ultimo laying in on the chops, Off the ropes, clothesline flips Perro out onto the ramp. Rey brings the box they use for ringsteps on the stage, they must have something planned.  Rey standing on the box, and Ultimo lifts Perro up to him - superbomb on the stage! Perro bounced but it didn't look too fun. Wagner is working Shocker over in the ring. Maybe another clip job as Rey holds Casas in a seated position on the box for Ultimo to running dropkick him off. That didn't look as impressive as the powerbomb, but the thought is nice. Rey brings Casas back in an tries to pin him with a knee choke, which shouldn't be legal but hey one two NO. (They way they react, that might have supposed be three but it's not clear. Don't sweat it.) Aguayo slammed in the middle of the ring, Ultimo off the ropes, Aguayo double stomp! Rey off the ropes, Aguayo double stomp! Wagner pulls Perro up enough so eh can work in the Wagner dropkick to the head. Ultimo covers one two three. (2:51) Wagner laying into Shocker with some big hand strikes outside the ring as Rey and Ultimo continue to beat up Casas and Perro in the ring - oh no, they just overturned the fall! (3:12) Ultimo can't believe they just did that finish, but they did. This week, the rabid tecnico section mocks Ultimo and Rey. Replays.

This action may be exciting to some, but a baby wearing a Winnie the Pooh bib is fast asleep. Shocker is in no hurry to start this fall. Perhaps he realized his partners are still dead. He wants Wagner to back up and give him some room, but Wagner doesn't seem in the mood and Shocker is getting counted. Perro's out on the floor. Shocker in, ducking a clothesline and hitting his own - but Ultimo stops that with a clothesline. Stomps. Ultimo not in any real hurry, taking time to go walk around and let Shocker up. Where's he going? Oh, he wants more or Aguayo. Open hand slap. Shot into the announce desk! Hard shot into the post! Ultimo slips back in so he, Rey and Wagner can do the huddle dance. They can't get the Triple Wagner pose worked out right, as Rey wanders off. Good enough, though. Rudo belliringer rings that bell, but the tecnicos are rallying themselves and the crowd on the floor. Shocker in, immediately worked over with chops for m Wagner as the other two hold him. Headbutt! Double corner whip, Wagner's whipped in but Casas nudges Shocker out of the way and Wagner feels the corner buckles . Shocker traps him in the corner while they other two beat him down, and Shocker kicks GdI as they charge! Casas/Aguayo stereo spears, then one from Shocker on Wagner.  Tecnicos are beating the Rudos in the brawl - Aguayo throws a particularly wild boot near the front row of the crowd that connects with Rey only. Casas is going for Ultimo's mask, and now he's hitting his apron dive Thesz press on him. Aguayo takes part of the ring steps and chases Rey around the ring with it. Casas helps hold him for a shot to the head, scaring some front row fans in the process. Wagner and Shocker slugging it out. Shocker manages a snap mare - going for the mask! He's warned away, and argues with the ref. Wagner pushes Shocker into the ropes, Shocker thinks, charge, hiptoss takes them both out, but only Shocker is left standing. GdI, Casas and Aguayo left in as Shocker punches Wagner out on the floor. Double chop on Rey and he's whipped into Ultimo Dropkick to Ultimo's knee, double stomp by Aguayo onto Rey. Both going up in the same corner - Aguayo with a second rope double stomp for Rey, Casas with a Thesz press for Ultimo. Aguayo gets his one two three (3:43) as Casas hits the Casas Special. Aguayo helps hook  when he's done, one two three (3:48) and we're done in two. Falls over, but Aguayo is ripping at Ultimo's mask. I'd like to see this overturned but I'm thinking no. Ultimo really don't have much left. Aguayo is bringing in part of the ramp to use as a weapon. Looking Rey and Wagner got to safety.

Casas has a microphone - could've figured it while ago, but this is the official challenge for the tag team titles. Aguayo still sneaks in a punch. Aguayo talks and unless this is some weird Mexican lucha libre thing going over my head they do for Aguayos, they're really booing him. A Perro chant comes in response to the booing, and Perro thanks the fans. Perro makes the challenge first. Ultimo and Rey accept, mostly because Ultimo is ticked at what they did to his mask. Rey tells us that the Guerreros are the best, and it looks like the fight breaks out again as we go to break.

They're fighting as we come back - Ultimo and Perro rolling around on the floor, Casas knocking Rey for a loop. Shocker and Wagner disappeared? No, I think I hear Wagner talking. It must not be important, because we get replays of the match instead. Casas and Perro go to the announcers to get in a few more works, but Rey rushes them and the fight breaks up again. Casas seems more worried about Rey accidentally kicking fans in the crowd for a moment. We go back to replays of the finishes, and hype for the show as everything finishes up. Ah, Shocker's watching this from the stage. Ultimo still has words for his opponents. And the fight breaks out again! Wagner wants no part of this, so he's pretending to be distracted by Shocker. Ah, now he'll fight if he's not going to get hit. As it looks like they'll brawl up the ramp and backstage, we get out.

Rating: Bases on the quality of the finish, ring work, internal/external storyline, consistency and my whims. Also, various other (random) factors that I can't think of right now. 0-100 for matches.

Breakdowns: 3 Matches (17:31) about 29.2% of showtime (60:00)
Average Match Rating 75
Overall Match Rating: approximately 2

Closing Notes:

1. Goes without saying that more of the Cibernetico would've been appreciated. You could've cut down 2 to the post match angle without losing any impact, if you really wanted.
2. Abbreviated day. Lots of angles.
3. The two top matches for 9/19 are Tarzan Boy/Shocker and Pierroth/Violencia, and they had no in-match confrontations.
4. SL Title match should be swell.
