open complaint thread

Since I haven’t posted frequently and probably won’t have anything up till this weekend, I thought I should post something…so, if you have any complaints, questions, or comments about this site (like “why don’t you update”), now’s the post to air them publically to the world, and see if I’m bored enough to answer.

Request to F4WeeklyAudio: Editing. The dude bombed on Tuesday. But thanks for doing an RSS feed so I can get it thru iTunes.

Does anyone use my RSS feeds?

User Note

mt errors

MovableType’s been acting weird since the start of the month. If you’re getting 500 errors when posting comments, then – uh, e-mail me or try later? I guess. It’s caused problems with posting, so things may not go up or may just cause me a lot of pain to get up.

what I did while the bulls were on

Sent the computer in today. Never managed to salvage anything off the hard drive. I think I figured out how to get the MP3s off my iPod, but I’m not completely sure where it is at this point. I hooked up my old computer, but the monitor isn’t working at all. Probably because I have too much storage room, I have the monitor from my computer previous to this one (maybe 10-12 years old), and tried hooking it up. It gets all the way into Windows 98 loading screen, and then nothing; I can hear it process, I just can’t see anything on th screen – I figure the resolution set for this computer’s monitor doesn’t work with the older smaller one. This could easily be fixed if I could get into Safe Mode, so of course it’s not letting me into safe mode.

I’m hoping to figure out some way of fixing this before I have to do anything involving watching TV and writing (instead of just typing for no real reason.) I think I can temporarily hook the computer up to a monitor with higher resolution and change the settings, but I dunno.

This is all going so well. Should’ve just bought a computer; by the time I’d get it now, I figure the laptop should be back and fixed. I hope so, at least.

Digression: Early highlight of April stats is lots of hits from rivals.com, as one another.

computer update

I’m really really not looking forward to turning on my old computer and trying to see how much it works, so I wasn’t around yesterday and probably won’t be around much this week during the evening. I’m really really not looking forward to turning on my old computer and trying to see how much it works, so I wasn’t around yesterday and probably won’t be around much this week during the evening.

It doesn’t actually make sense to go dark-ish on the Cubs stuff for opening week, but then it doesn’t make sense to spend time screwing with an old computer when it’s opening week.

Just to be cruel, yesterday, my laptop actually found my hard drive, booted up WXP (very very slowly), and allowed me to set up all my MP3s to be burned – and then crashed when I wnet to burn it. I could never get it to work again. If I get it to work agian, my new idea is just to pull off as much as possible to another local computer, because it’ll never make it thru a burn without crashing.

Everything looked to be where I left it on the hard drive which is great, but there were whirlling sounds coming from the computer, so I don’t know if it’s just a mirage.

If/when Heat’s done, it probably won’t be till later this week – I skipped it on Sunday because of the computer problems and total uselessness.

I hate Gateway

My computer’s BIOS won’t find my computer’s hard drive or CDROM drive. So I’m completely screwed. Stupid MooCow wants me to send in the computer (which would be the second or third time I’ve hard to do it under this warranty) and is throwing out the possiblity of having to reformat my hard drive (which … Continue reading “I hate Gateway”

(this could completely screw up my iPod too, now that I think about it. GREAT.)

Anyway, while there are other computers I’m capable of using, things may be slow for a week or so. I may or may not recap Heat tonight (it was all talk, anyway) and may/may not implus buy a desktop computer so I have an alternate option when/if this sorta thing happens, and maybe take care of that burning DVD thing I can’t let go of.

If someone wants to sell me on an MAC, now would be the time. All I’d want is

– network fine with WIN PCs
– video editing software
– simple web editing stuff
– big ol’ hard drive for backups.

I dunno, obviously I’m not doing enough backups if these things happen. I’m just ticked off right now. I’ve got this problem and I’ve got a DVI only output flatscreen monitor I’m somehow supposed to hook up to a VGA only input computer (and the adapter doesn’t work that way, I now know.)

Edit: Since I may or may not remember the password to my DDTDigest.com address, you ought to e-mail the thecubsfan.com if you need to get a hold of me for the next two weeks or so.

spam block

I installed the blacklist MT plug in yesterday, which cleared up a lot of trackback spam I’d been getting. Y’all didn’t see it, but it was messing up things on my end. If you find your comments getting blocked as, give me a heads up and I’ll figure it out.

The plugin also makes it easier to ban annoying people. So don’t be annoying.

Since I’m going to be out of town the rest of the week (note things highlighted in red and put the pieces together – I like having the late games on Saturday because it means no 4 AM wakeup like I’ll be doing tomorrow, but that means I’ll be dealing with annoying bandwagon fans about the time IWA-MS kicks off in Highland), it’s not like I’m going to work on it much the rest of this week.

But, anyway. Maybe ideas? Or at least I’ll sort out my ideas a little better.

YET, you have Hurricane’s music. C’mon.

Thinking about it, of there’s any other music that absolutely has to be on the list besides New Jack is Austin’s glass breaking, since it set the template for all the WWE music which came after, including Hurricane’s.

The sad, lonely JG link in SD 2005 is actually a dead OO link.

Fixed.

There aren’t as many WV recaps because while I find them entertaining, they’re not as accesible to the person just looking for results.

Velocity 01/29

Velocity is up already. Akio’s crossed over. Heat will probably be up late – going to the lucha show, as long as nothing happens between now and then – but thankfully it’s a pre PPV show. Cubs Index

In case you’ve come here under the strange belief that a site called ‘thecubsfan.com’ should be all Cubs, all the time, I’ve created a seperate index page for Cubs posts at http://www.thecubsfan.com/cubsindex.htm. Cub posts will still appear on the main page with everything else, but if you just want those alone, the option is there for you.

I spent most of Saturday putting on the finishing touches and I’m not sure it’s completely right with my taste in web design, but at least now it’s 100% functional.

Site junk:

I’m going to be out of town all of next week. I haven’t decided if I’m going to lug the laptop along with me; I’ll have occasional internet access, but not with it.

Between the Heat report, a secret Rumble report, and maybe a some lucha thoughts, there should be enough stuff to keep y’all reading on Monday. And I will have internet access during the day, but my schedule may not allow for many posts of serious length or thought. Just so you know.

If I’m supposed to send you a tape, I’m sending it tommorow, I think. But I think you’re still on vacation so never mind.
