Cubs 3-3, take series
Astros 2-5

POTG: SP Z! (7 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, QS [2], W [1/83]
Runner Up: 1B D Lee (HR, 2B), LF Soriano (HR, OF AS)

This has to be quick, because things are going a bit insane today and I need to find time where I can. Plus, I was so tired during this game that I don’t have many memories of it; I think I still haven’t caught up on sleep from waking up at 4AM on Thursday and it chased me down during this game.

Z! had a fine day, even if he probably gave up more hits than we’d like and needed to be bailed out in the first inning by Soriano’s awesome throw. (That was not a short fly ball, Michael Bourn is lightning fast, and he still got beat by plenty.) 2 chances, 2 really good starts, and Z’s 1/16th of the way to his Cy Young.

Offense really wasn’t much. Maybe I have the wrong impression of Brandon Backe, like when they say he’s the Astros #2 starter and I laugh, because he shut the Cubs down pretty much today. I would’ve liked to see more than three runs scored, but it was enough to win so it’s enough for me.

Even putting aside the Mitchell report allegations, I was expected Miguel Tejada to not do that much for the Astros. He looked pretty done for O’s last year and had been sliding that way for a few years. It’s just one series, but he looked much better the last thre games. Tejada showed some power and made some plays in the field. He’ll need to keep it up if the Astros have any shot.
